10:00 PM
@Wipqozn Oh, and it's retroactive to 2008, so, pay up!

FAE
@Wipqozn I don't understand this at all

@FAE What's there to understand? Apparently, music is now a tax.

@fbueckert Is Molten more or less annoying than the Lightning-Enchanted monstrosities of D2?

@GraceNote Less. You can avoid molten.

Did they actually take out Lightning-enchanted?

10:05 PM
@GraceNote Electrified.
But it does a ton less damage.

It's like getting an electric shock, instead of being struck by lightning.

No more instant death of a thousand volts because you deigned to be in the same room?

Mortar and arcane enchanted are the ones that make me rage the most now. Also any advanced monster(s) of the Burrowing Leaper variety. For some unknown reason they tear my Demon Hunter to pieces.

Cort writes to say that he's leaving for a month-long trip (?) in 9 hours and that's probably not enough to download 30 GBs of Max Payne 3
(I don't think he'd be terribly mad if that just meant skipping the next round of giveaways however. I mean, I had to drag him to sign him up for this round anyway.)

poof

10:18 PM
Ben Kuchera reports from Far Cry 3.
Good: this game has an African American female character! Bad: She's introduced when you grab her breasts.

@badp Heh.
@GraceNote I've been meaning to show you a link to some music I think you might enjoy.
But you've been dead.
@badp Who is that?

@FAE Greed.
I don't understand the dancing thing. It's just stupid.
The playing music? okay, yeah, blah blah blah ou work blah blah blah should be compensated.
but how does people dancing make any difference?

@Wipqozn WTF what happens to DJs now?

@GnomeSlice They charge more money.

@Wipqozn I'm talking about DJs not doing shows. Just doing a club or a party or something...

10:30 PM
@GnomeSlice Charge more money.

All they do is spin tunes from other artists.
@Wipqozn Those guys often don't charge at all...

@spugsley gorramit, woman, way to crush my hopes. All I wanted was a mouse, lol. Keep your Act 3 and Act 4 prizes, just give me a nice gaming mouse! lol

@GnomeSlice Huh? Don't chargE? That doesn't make any sense.

@Wipqozn This is actually not all that new a thing. Traditionally though, that sort of fee is borne by the venue.

Then again, I don't go to many clubs (See also: I never go to clubs).

10:32 PM
@Wipqozn Lots of DJs just do parties and stuff for free, it's good promotion.
@Wipqozn Neither do I.

@GnomeSlice ah, I see

Usually at clubs, they're contracted.

@GnomeSlice Traditionally, the venue is paying a monthly fee to the publishing companies.

@spugsley @IanPugsley And don't think I don't see the Pugsley D3 Mouse-rub-it-in-Raven's-Face crowd.

I agree with @James. I feel like this question/answer should be made into a community wiki.

10:33 PM
ASCAP fees and other compulsory licenses really aren't terribly onerous if they're well administered and they make perfect sense.

@RavenDreamer At least you get a shirt?

@RavenDreamer Well what about those of us in the D3 Headest-rub-it-in-Raven's-Face crowd?
@fbueckert Actually, it has nothing to do with the RIAA, and most of the money probably does go to artists.
The only thing that's weird about this whole arrangement is that it doesn't seem to be targeting the venues but rather individual events, which is... horribly inefficient as these things go.

Q: How does the Zombie Dogs rune Life Link work?

Wipqozn I'm uncertain on some of the details of Life Link, specifically: Is it 10% damage reduction, or 10% damage reduction for each dog? How is the absorbed damaged divided amongst the dogs? (evenly, one chosen at random, et cetra) If the dogs don't have enough health left to absorb the full 10% ...

There's a bounty on that folks!!
Don't you all want to know the answer?!?!?

Performance rights organizations (PROs) provide intermediary functions, particularly royalty collection, between copyright holders and parties who wish to use copyrighted works publicly such as shopping and dining venues. Legal consumer purchase of works, such as buying CDs from a music store, confer private performance rights. PROs usually only collect royalties when use of a work is incidental to an organization's purpose. Royalties for works essential to an organization's purpose, such as theaters and radio, are usually negotiated directly with the rights holder. In some countries PROs...
@Wipqozn Not really.
Also, sorry for prior tirade, I just get a little sick of "OMG THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WANTS MONEY, THEY MUST BE EVIL JERKS."
They do a lot of stupid and malicious shit already, you don't need to go after them for the perfectly reasonable stuff.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm mostly raging at the dancing part.
That's just stupid.

10:42 PM
@Wipqozn Cry me a river. Dancing has been illegal in New York City since 1926.
@Wipqozn Anyway, the reason for the dancing part is that it indicates that the audience is there for and engaged with the music, and that it isn't just background noise. Therefore, it is presumably of higher value to the venue.

@LessPop_MoreFizz See, I can't tell if that's true or not, becausae there are so many stupid laws that were implemented waaay back.

@Wipqozn Not only is it true, but bars still get ticketed for it.

@James Have you UHC 5 up? I can't remeber.

@LessPop_MoreFizz ...wow
I thought it was just "It's too much of a pain to reverse this stupid law"
There are a lot of stupid laws in Canada that aren't enforced, it's just a pain in the ass to undo the law + costs money. So no one bothers.

@Wipqozn That was the case for most of the 60's-80's. THen Giuliani decided that enforcing them would be a good idea.
Bloomberg has dialed things back and has commissioned studies to 'repeal' them, but so far, in 10 years in office, has not done so.

10:45 PM
@RonanForman Not, Will so tonight, and 6 hopefully. Go ahead and make yours public though man, a few hours one way or another shouldnt stop everyone from doing it

@James I'm on my iPod, can you do it? Just copy the text over.

Crazy Finnish... (slightly nsfw)

But, yeah. Dancing has been illegal in NYC since prohibition, so forgive me if I lack sympathy.

@RonanForman I do not have the login information man. I used it once but I definitely do not have it at work :D

@James I'll do it in a bit then.

10:55 PM

11:17 PM
Any mods around?

user2334
No, but the mod squad is:

user2334

@MarkTrapp They are of no help....

@Fluttershy I can pretend to be a mod.

user2334
Quit your jivin', turkey.

11:22 PM
@Wipqozn Pretend to community wiki this guy trying to profit on the work of others?

Q: How to collect all Diablo 3 conversation achievements?

AndersI want to collect all the conversation achievements in one thread so it is easier for people to find all the different threads. Usually when people want to do these achievements they will be doing them at the same time and instead of trying to search up all the different threads they are all coll...

user2334
Unfortunately CW isn't retroactive so he gets to keep the 90 rep

@MarkTrapp but it would prevent him from gaining any more.

user2334
I think it should be duped to this question and someone should create a CW answer there

@MarkTrapp Assuming that question is asking what I think it's asking I agree.

user2334
@EBongo do you concur? --^

user2334
11:25 PM
Might need a slight revise on the earlier question

user2334
Best case scenario is the new question just gets deleted because it literally adds nothing and sets a terrible precedent

@GnomeSlice I haven't been dead

@GraceNote Oh.

@GraceNote Are you sure?
