@Sterno I think I'll need to upgrade my GPU to play with high settings. Try lowering Clutter.

Q: Is there a way in-game to see more detailed information about a skill?

SternoIn looking at the skills on my Barbarian, I can't really tell what effect they might have on damage. For instance, look at Bash, the default barbarian skill. I understand that it generates 6 rage when I attack, but does the "brutal strike" it describes translate into it actually doing more da...

I don't know how to do this. =[

@Sterno I don't have the game to verify, but I believe you hold Ctrl while mousing over to get the detailed tooltip.

@GnomeSlice How to do what?

@Tristan More Javascript.
I'm still working on the same project.

6:06 PM
@GnomeSlice Oh. I'm glad I'm not a programmer... >.>

@Tristan I'm not. =[

@bwarner this is correct.

@GnomeSlice I'll never do anything programming related. I'll just stick to network technician.

@Tristan This is sometimes worse.

@OrigamiRobot Sometimes. But for the most part, I won't need to learn any kind of new programming language. <.<

6:09 PM
Okay, I think the way I'm doing this isn't going to work, and I'm going to have to start over.
Fuck...

"Blizzard just announced that 100,000 Diablo III Beta Invites have been sent this week" Still nothing for me...

@GnomeSlice what are you trying to do?

Grrr... I can't find where GamersGate puts my games after I download them. >.<

@OrigamiRobot Make a 'font preview site' type deal. Earlier, I got the buttons to change the preview text's font working. Now I need to figure out how to add separate buttons to change the font size.

@GnomeSlice document.getElementById('yourcontrolhere').style.fontSize = "30px";

6:12 PM
fontsize said something about needing an integer between 1 and 7.

@JasonBerkan What, no jQuery?
Its font-size

@bwarner For school. No jQuery.

@bwarner His class is on JavaScript w/o jQuery. I'm scraping the bottom of my memory to help him.

@JasonBerkan Just kidding, trying to make it feel more like Stack Overflow
@GnomeSlice The style property is font-size, not fontsize

@bwarner That's CSS.
I'm trying to do it via Javascript, because I think the way I did the other buttons prevents me from adding the preview text element to two CSS classes.

6:16 PM
@GnomeSlice It shouldn't.

@JasonBerkan Then I guess my lack of knowledge prevents me from doing it.
How do I add a new className without removing the currently applied ones?

Q: how to append a css class to an element by javascript?

Shoresuppose id is known, so the element can be specified by document.getElementById(element_id); but I don't know if there is a built-in function that can be used to append a css class to that element?

@GnomeSlice Ah, you're right. Javascript is fontSize. So what Jason quoted above should work.

@bwarner It doesn't. =[

What browser are you testing in? Have you tried using the built-in developer tools to look at the CSS/layout?

6:19 PM
@GnomeSlice Project Black Sun has the worst default controls ever. <.<

@OrigamiRobot I turned every single video option to the lowest setting. Had no effect on performance. I'd think it was drivers, but I have the latest. And my wife's machine (with the same version of nvidia drivers, different card though) runs it great

@GnomeSlice As Ian pointed out, you can give an element multiple CSS classes: <div class="header brightred mycoolclass">Blah</div>

@bwarner I have the CSS here, I can modify it if I need to.

The div now has three CSS classes attached to it.

@Sterno Sounds like a good excuse to go shopping on Newegg :P

6:20 PM
@JasonBerkan Yes, but... if I assign one class 'font' by js, then I want to assign another one 'size' by a different function, how do I keep the font class?

I mean, when I can't figure out why the browser is laying something out the way it is, the built-in tools usually can help me figure out why

Oh.
+= new classname.
Lets try that.

@GnomeSlice You are probably best storing the selected font name and size somewhere, so that on every click, you can just assign the proper CSS classes to the element.

@JasonBerkan That'd be global variables, right?

@OrigamiRobot That's the thing though. It's a great gaming rig. I can run things like Battlefield 3 at max settings without a hiccup. So I'm not sure where exactly the problem lies. But, I'll stop complaining, since I don't think talking about it chat will solve anything :P

6:23 PM
@GnomeSlice That's a good place to start (but you didn't hear it from me - I'll lose my programming license).

@JasonBerkan =[
I tried doing global variables, and they didn't appear to actually be global, a while ago.

@GnomeSlice A variable declared outside a function should be global, at least until the page refreshes.

@JasonBerkan ... should those be global?
Or is it going to skip them entirely?

Alright. Oak and Kevin Y have entered the elections. This officially destroys all chances of me winning. :P
But of course, we'll get great mods.

user30
@GnomeSlice Oh Javascript variable explanation, fun.

6:28 PM
@ThomasMcDonald Sorry...

@JohntheGreen You're the second or third person to say this. This dismays me

@GraceNote What? Why?

user30
Sounds good.

We recognize good mod candidates when we see them.

user30
Anyway, they will be set.

6:29 PM
I wouldn't say your chances are gone, is all.

@ThomasMcDonald Me?

@GraceNote Ok, very slim. :P

user30
Yeah.

@ThomasMcDonald Not sure what you mean by that.

user30
okay, so those 3 lines of code you posted.

user30
6:31 PM
aside from the function

user30
Will all be executed.

Oh, so those are global variables now?

user30
and the variables will be in the global scope.

@GnomeSlice Yes.

Hm... okay... now that I've figured out that those are global, I've forgotten why I needed global variables in the first place.

6:32 PM
@GnomeSlice To remember the current font and font size settings.

This is like, my biggest issue with programming. I end up scrolling back and forth between parts of code, forgetting each before I reach the next.

@GnomeSlice The art of programming is the art of remember 10 small pieces of information at the same time.

I have a horrible, horrible memory.
Horrible enough that I've been to Doctors about it.
x_x
This stuff takes me like 4x as long as it should.

I hate typing so slow sometimes... By the time I'd finished my answer, another answer had already been posted and gotten 3 upvotes. lol

I forget how to reassign a new value to a global variable...
For God's sake...

6:36 PM
@GnomeSlice =

I don't use java but I assume it's var Variable = value;

@JohntheGreen Well, they can't both win. I mean, ronnie's already got one slot locked up!

@JasonBerkan I meant syntax.
I have no idea what it's doing now...
Just 'fontClass = x;' right?

var fontClass = x

I was right!

6:39 PM
document.getElementById('Blah').className = fontClass;

@JohntheGreen Hey, unlike everyone else, GnomeSlice doesn't know you. That's a unique advantage for you.
2

@GraceNote Oh, be quiet.

Though you will also have fontSize variable, so document.getElementById('Blah').className = fontClass + " " + fontSize;

@JasonBerkan Won't this re-define it as a local variable to that function?

6:40 PM
@JohntheGreen My thoughts exactly.

argh! you tricked me into clicking play!

Win!

@GnomeSlice Sorry - JavaScript syntax sucks. You are correct.

You're up to... 3 views? Uf.

@JasonBerkan So... just 'fontClass = x;'?

6:41 PM
@RonanForman Ugh the 4th video and I'm still using the harpoon? This was too long.

When you guys review first answers on the site, and someone writes one that's great, do you do anything besides upvote it?

@GraceNote And one of them is me.
@Sterno Press up to edit.

@Sterno I just upvote it. That first 10 or 30 rep opens up a lot of the basic functionality of the site.

@RonanForman And I was #2. So only one other person has looked at it since the very first time you linked it.

@RonanForman thanks

6:43 PM
@JasonBerkan So, tell me if I'm on the right track here. Have an onclick function for when you click a font name, that sets the fontClass variable to that CSS class name, have a similiar function for the numbers, and have each of those functions call a function which applies both values to the preview text?

@GnomeSlice Yup.

It makes sense NOW.
x_x
At least the logic part does.
Assuming that's what I'm talking about.

@GraceNote I'm up to 7!
This shouldn't be an achievement.

@Sterno I tend to link it here and encourage other people to consider upvoting it.

@RonanForman I love the technical difficulties music

@OrigamiRobot: I'm up for Diablo 3 now if you are.

user30
this never fails to make me laugh

@ThomasMcDonald oh god.

btw, @JohntheGreen What happened to your avatar?

6:46 PM
@Wipqozn I am up for it.

user30
@Mana yeah?

@RonanForman Woo!

@ThomasMcDonald eeheehee.

@OrigamiRobot excellent

A: How to clear "Storm the Sheep" on extreme in Defender's Quest?

NommyI found it pretty easy using all level 20 troops (with level 22 librarian), using some of the advice from previous answers. The sheep ate it just past 1/2 way. The general strategy was to follow the sheep with 3 unboosted ice mages for the first 1/4 of the path to build up slow debuff duration, ...

6:47 PM
give me 5 minutes though... mother just got home, wants home bringing some stuff in

First time user, great answer that took what some other people said, expanded on it with a lot more detail, and did it at a lower level than the other answers
i.e., the kind of person I want answering my questions!

@Sterno damn.

user30

Q: Where's the last word for the shout Slow Time?

BradenI'm looking for the last word to Slow Time. I want to know where it is. Can you tell me?

@Ullallulloo I changed it back until I can make some more changes.
I didn't want to be John the Green with a blue gravatar.

6:52 PM
@John Did you see this?:
21 hours ago, by Ullallulloo
user image

@John I like your gravatar just the way it is. You don't need a fancy picture.

@Sterno up vote that like there is no tomorrow.
@OrigamiRobot: Have you played the beta already?

Doesn't work at all now...
Gah...

@Wipqozn a bit

Does anyone know the font used in chat?

6:55 PM
@OrigamiRobot what class?\

@Wipqozn Demon Hunter

user30
> font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;

@RonanForman Verdana, Arial, or lacking those, your default sans-serif font.

@OrigamiRobot ah okay

6:56 PM
> Cannot set property 'onclick' of null

Ah, @ThomasMcDonald beat me. :P

=[
I didn't change anything there though...

Well I'm going to start a new character for playing with you, since my witch doctor is level 8.

@ArdaXi I saw that this morning. I'm glad SE bought my copy of Heroes VI, or I would be demanding a refund.

@ArdaXi indefinitely?

6:57 PM
@Ullallulloo Yes.

@Ullallulloo They don't give an end date, just a start date.

I don't think I'm ever going to finish this.

Could be a day, a week, a month, a year. They haven't specified.
It just highlights how horrific their DRM is.

@Wipqozn I'm level 6

@JohntheGreen You should totally use this as your avatar.

6:58 PM
@JasonBerkan Also... I set up some breakpoints, and it appears to be skipping the global variables.

Since they come after the '.onload' function call, I guess it goes right to the function?
@RonanForman It looks decidedly Russian.

@OrigamiRobot I see. Want to start a new character as well ?
or should I just use my witch doctor?
