@JonEricson - I saw I got a temporary posting ban in the Tavern for a comment I made. I was just being facetious. I hope Shog9 (or anyone else) didn't think I was actually trying to incite a riot. Please apologize for me as I don't think I should go back anytime soon ;-)
Many years ago, I was involved in a hobby of building and flying model aircraft. The aircraft used alcohol-fueled 2-stroke engines with glow plug ignitions. When these engines ran rich (and always at idle), they produced a distinctively different sound to when they ran with the throttle mostly or...
@JPhi1618 - This is someone surmising that's what it's talking about ... On the article @Zaid posted, I'm not finding it listed in there, though I'm not through the article yet.
@Zaid It's when there is too much exhaust gas in the system and the piston goes through 8 strokes before the AFR balances enough to fire, then it does it again. typically associated with coming off throttle on a 2stroke but sometimes occurs in 4 strokes. I've never seen it occurring on a 4stroke though.
it's with hi-perf 2 strokes where the exhaust port is set very low in the side of the cylinder wall.
Hm. Cable modem sussed out - the long runs of coax in my house predate most cable modems and are insufficiently shielded. My dBs are leaking out. Now to puzzle out exactly what I want to do to fix the problem.... In other news, it must be very convenient to have someone who pegs the Nerd Needle living in the house.
Thanks - going with something different. I'm probably going to abandon the long runs of coax entirely. I have a long run of Cat5E that goes right past there. I can place the modem very close to where the cable enters the house, drop the router right next to it and run out from there via network rather than coax. Of course, that means having to make additional ends on that stupid cable.
The Cat5E - I wouldn't bother making new coax. What am I, a dinosaur?!
I also get to decide how much to nerd out on making a panel for all this gear.
Yes - my house also predates cat 5 as a common occurrence. While that might be losing me some bits, that isn't the problem that I'm tracking down. I have measured power loss at the coax.
@BobCross - There are two things you've probably already realized about me ... 1) I can be dense; 2) I'm very gullible. Sometimes it's not very fun being me, especially when I catch on ... two hours later.
@trevor - I'm doing well. I'm just writing articles. Today's topic: How to replace a valve cover gasket on an Acura TSX w/K24 engine.
@DucatiKiller I am, in fact, a doctor and can write you a note. Show this to your young lady friend: "@DucatiKiller requires one or more beers to treat his angst."
@BobCross - That is something I've always wanted to do. I remember when I was a kid when you could go to an A&W Rootbeer stand and get some home brewed rootbeer.
I said, "OMG, I need beers!" really loud in my office and I heard, "oh no!" and then it appeared. Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout. A pint of it. and no @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Great gals don't necessarily have great guys. :-)
@BobCross Yes, it was one of the first things we worked out years ago. I will always do all of your honey does....ALWAYS...I just need beer and food to get it done. It's a great arrangement.
We had an oil change done at a quick lube type shop. After nearly 3 months and 3,000 miles driven, the oil drain plug fell out, resulting in blowing up the entire engine. There was no oil leakage or any sign of trouble up to the point where the plug came out; no oil in the driveway, or parking sp...
What gets me about it is, with the way today's oil pan plug is sealed (with metal washers), if it was loose at all, it would have been dropping a considerable amount of oil on the ground at any given point. They would have been without oil for some time and would have oil slicks where ever they had been parked. I'm wondering if someone did them a nasty and "helped" it along.
James Coburn in the Movie "Hard Times" with Charles Bronson, but I think Nick the Greek coined the saying "The next best thing to gambling and winning is gambling and losing"
