@Benzene I know, right?

It reminds me of the burning duck feet question a while ago
Do you know if that question was taken down? I was trying to find it a couple of days ago.

@Benzene It was deleted five months ago. (Thankfully.)

@Benzene @ orthocresol I just read the spider question in class, and laughed so hard. Half the lecture hall and the prof turned around and gave me a good state down

Zhe
So, what you're saying is if we want to get you in trouble, post silly questions so you'll laugh out loud in the middle of class?

Yup pretty much. I have very little self control
Also a short attention span
And congratulations on making it to the board

Hi :-) Is anybody familiar with Andrews P-V curves for $CO_2$?

user228700
I'm having a little trouble understanding this:

user228700
There, that diagram is a lot better ^

@Benzene Yes, I am

4:50 AM
@Kaumudi what are you having trouble with

Oh, never mind, I figured it out, thanks :-)

I have another quick question. Vapour is defined as the state of matter of a substance below its critical temperature. What does this really mean?

user228700
5:42 AM
Oh, and also, does anybody know why pressure remains constant for awhile there, on the graph I posted earlier, as we keep reducing it's volume?

7:29 AM
@Martin-マーチン @orthocresol @Loong chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/61954/…
Not sure how the flagging for moderator attention works but figure I'd call your collective attention to it just in case

@ringo This is no case you'd flag. It's just a question, that will probably be heavy down voted and maybe even closed. From a technical standpoint I see nothing really wrong with it. After all, there is some serious science analysing faeces.

I suppose
I think I was just averse to the use of "shit" in the title
@orthocresol chemistry.stackexchange.com/a/61946/15410 will you really turn blue if I sprinkle $\ce{FeCl3}$ on you?

Q: Coloured Crystal Glass using gold nanoparticles

getafixI came across this video which shows how a crystal chandelier is made. I recommend that anyone reading this post should watch it; it is quite fascinating. Anyway, at about the 2:15 mark, the video talks about how ruby red crystal is produced by adding 24-karat gold powder to the glass. However,...

^Need help selecting appropriate tags for this post.
I tagged it everyday chemistry for now...
@Kaumudi the pressure remains constant because the condensed phase is appearing, you squeeze the gas molecules together, some of them go into the liquid phase, there's no change in pressure..once the phase transition is complete, the pressure shoots up because condensed phases are quite incompressible.

@getafix Ah, OK, thank you :-)

11:50 AM
Can anybody tell what this means? chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/61963/…
o.o
I'm fairly sure it's something to do with surface tension, but I just don't get the question..

@orthocresol "Why is milk boiling over?"?

@Loong And, I guess, "why doesn't water boil over?"?

or "why doesn't water boil over so much?", since the volume of boiling water (and the mentioned tea) also increases due to the steam bubbles.

Ah, fair enough..

In a boiling water reactor (BWR), this effect is called "swell".
It can make the measurement of water levels in the reactor a bit difficult.

12:10 PM
Uh-oh. Commiserating mods. Trouble....... ;-)
<tips hat>

12:35 PM
@Martin-マーチン Hey, what tags should I use for my question about coloured crystal glasses? I put down materials, and everyday chem..appropriate?

dunno... if not ok, somebody is going to fix it

fair enough

what does your username mean? is that your actual name?

@getafix I mean secretive :D

oh lol..you're giving me nothing. haha

@getafix You can ask Loong or MAR about the nick

and I can't stalk your profile bio, cause you don't have one

oh hey we have that in common

@getafix Yeah it's quite popular field of interest around here ;)

yeah. I wish there was procrastination stack exchange

Well, this chat is permanent and even has built in search so one should be careful here

johnny ski want to know how much cost done by making chemical method of water drop.just please tell the amount of one water molecule.please send the reply,i am waiting for your reply sir

what?

@Loong :D

lol i just VTC'ed that question

why HW?
let's not let HW become a catch-all again... think this should be unclear

I was thinking that..but there was a hw vtc on it
so I just followed suite..I thought one of you guys put it there

1:17 PM
It's rather unclear or broad but guy behaves like homework noob

@pentavalentcarbon When you have time, I need some help with installing psi4. lol I guess I am failing at the very first step..such a n00b.

Ok. Are you free 12 hours from now?

uh no. I have class lol. Wait, let us have separate chatroom? I will probably have a lot of questions, and let us not clutter this?

Q: Help understanding miscibility curves

Aaron AbrahamI stumbled across miscibility curves in the section Solubility of Liquids in Liquids (Organic Chemistry, by Wallwork and Grant) today. I'm not sure if my problem is with the way the content was laid out in the book or whether I'm not fully understanding the material, but I feel the book has dealt...

Hey guys I want answer for this question but it is getting a cold response from people,i can't even start bounty as this question is asked today.What should i do??chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/61963/…

@AaronAbraham nothing blatantly wrong with your interpretation..

2:10 PM
blatantly ?

@THELONEWOLF. patience..

So what's wrong?
I care for subtle details ._.

@AaronAbraham it is right..one a quick read

OOh,i can't wait to have answer of such a nice question(in my opinion).

@THELONEWOLF. 1. If you didn't notice it's not a place where you get quick answers. 2. It's still weird.

2:12 PM
thats all i can give it right now, but nothing jumped at me. i can give it a closer look again..if you'd like
what do you think you're wrong anyway?

@getafix Gimme a sec..

@THELONEWOLF. Many questions never get answer and your still isn't completely clear

@Mithoron i m not here for answers,but for suggestions.Also, if you still have any problem,you can do anything with question (edit it anyway)

@THELONEWOLF. What is "balloon like structure" for example o.O

@getafix Well, in the second pic, they mention that liquids A and B exist separately at equilibrium (for the given temperature: 20 degrees). Does that mean there're two liquid layers existing together, at the same time, one having the composition of A and the other with the composition of B?

2:16 PM
yes

@Mithoron i know you have got it,but you are trying to make fun of it.:) :P

Seriously :O
Whoa..

You ask why tea and water don't overflow when boiled, right? All those details aren't terribly useful

^ point

2:18 PM
@THELONEWOLF. You were boiling tea with milk?

@Mithoron this is balloon like structure

you know, if you're doing a google image search, you don't need to search "images of".

@Kaumudi Oh, you actually reverted back to mone. How... interesting ;)

that's not balloon... balloons are like this

@THELONEWOLF. This link tried to redirect me :(

2:20 PM
that's bubbles or froth

XD
@THELONEWOLF. Didn't that answer your question? chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/61824/…

^you can also find the proportion in which the phases are present

@getafix Oh thanks! ^_^ Gimme a bit. I still feel a little incredulous... I KNOW the graphs indicate otherwise, but now I want to look up an image of the water-phenol binary equilibrium thingy ._.

I have edited my question now see it chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/61963/…
@AaronAbraham congo for 15 reputation
I have accepted your answer

Bleh :/ Just graphs ._. google.co.in/…
@THELONEWOLF. Gee, thanks!

2:28 PM
Now see the question and tell me, is there anything which i can improve??
Where are you allllllllll????
Finally,@Mithoron you did it.

@THELONEWOLF. Your behaving in rather annoying way :(

Really??I m sorry if i have said anything wrong .

If you boiled tea with milk then state it clearly in question

i can't find an image of boiling of tea(containing milk)

I guess if you added only a little milk then it wouldn't be enough to overflow

2:38 PM
You don't need images...
I'd prefer editing out the last two images you put in. They seem unnecessary.

I just added them to show what is happening in case of milk and water

@THELONEWOLF. You're impatient and nagging up for help

:) :) :)
Sorry @Mithoron

@THELONEWOLF. They can stay if you wish but most people know how milk overflows...

So what should i do,remove them??(though i like the combo of those three)

2:45 PM
Never mind boiling water :D
@THELONEWOLF. Details about how much milk or even strength of tea may be more useful
If you like it leave it

Okay,let's have a final edit.

S7S
Hi people :-)

I think the question is not getting enough attention because of its uninteresting title
Hi @S7S

hmph

Hey @AaronAbraham Are you from India??I thought you are German.

@THELONEWOLF. Warum sagst du das?

3:03 PM
@S7S You made it without sufficient rep?

@Aaron Now,what does it mean??Please talk in a common language..

S7S
@Mithoron Yes with only 15 rep :-D. No idea how.

Ich sage es nicht
Unless @ortho tells me where he's from first ;)

@AaronAbraham You obviously don't know much about the search tools in chat. :)

Ah, well if isn't our serial editor o/

3:06 PM
You could simply search for all messages of me saying <country>.

@orthocresol Not really, no...

Until you find one or two hits.
You can play around with it, good luck haha

I know @AaronAbraham that you are an Indian and an aakashian.

@S7S Hmm it sums rep from all sites, that's the reason I guess.

@orthocresol And you could simply tell me which country ಠ_ಠ

3:08 PM
@AaronAbraham Now, now, let's not go there...

@AaronAbraham from kerala

@THELONEWOLF. You honestly had nothing better to do huh? -- I was just screwing around with @Kaumudi .. I've never seen a Keralite on SE before, hence.

So how do you know about aakash

@AaronAbraham That is very open to misinterpretation

@orthocresol Oh yeah, you're right XD Now that I re-read it ._.

3:13 PM
@AaronAbraham how do you know about aakash

It's a free country. I've got the right to know :P

Aakash is an institute which prepare students to get admission in good collages,it is working only in India,how a person outside the country would know about it

@THELONEWOLF. I've got intelligence inputs from all over the world, including India ಠ_ಠ

Okay :)
Bye guys,it's study time.Hope you will be here at 12

@orthocresol couldn't you possibly take down that comment about me screwing around with someone? I'm having second thoughts ._. ( Not an ulterior motive). It must be fine, I mean, with you being a Mod (among other things) ;)

3:22 PM
well, I don't think it really matters much, if anybody chooses to interpret it that way then it is their problem, not a problem with your message
(yes, guilty as charged..)

XD
Great, now some idiot just starred that comment. So it's one of the first things that greets anyone who comes here -_- I'll wring that wolf's neck....

user228700
What the heck is pazhinjilae? O.o

3:35 PM
Ah. my bad.

user228700
Ur Malayalam is not even "passable" man xD

> Wtf is going on?
Cute Malayalis don't swear you know ;)
So either your not a Malayali, or you aren't cute. (Maybe both?)
O.o

S7S
Someone is openly flirting ^ ;-)

user228700
-___- Dunno how I'm going to prove to you that I'm definitely a Malayali and Idk about that whole "cute Malayalis don't swear" premise-Ik tonnes of Malayalis who swear like crazy. Anyhoo, gotta go. ATB for ur prep!

3:39 PM
By the way, @ortho, you're an "every-chem seal" right? Could ye have a wee look at this?

Q: Is polymeric ethylene glycol conductive?

Aaron AbrahamThe other day, when we were doing the chapter Polymer Chemistry my teacher mentioned that Polymeric Ethylene Glycol (PEG) is conductive. Naturally I was taken aback, having lived all my life believing anything even remotely related to plastics could possibly conduct electricity. So I Googled it,...

don't know anything about this

@Kaumudi Tschüss

currently struggling through photochemistry

user228700
@AaronAbraham Dunno any German.

@orthocresol Wasn't there some Einstein-Stark thingy in photochemistry? How's that?
@Kaumudi I said "Bye"

3:41 PM
not really sure what you mean, never heard those two together.. haha

user228700
Adios.

@ortho Now I'm not sure ._.
@Kaumudi I don't do Spanish ._.
Anyhow, see ya ._.
@S007 YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT ME BEING WRONG!
It's Phi_n.l.m
BUT SINCE I THOUGHT I WAS RIGHT ABOUT YOU BEING WRONG ABOUT BEING RIGHT ABOUT ME BEING WRONG I IGNORED IT! BUT NOW I SEE I WAS WRONG ABOUT ME BEING RIGHT ABOUT YOU BEING WRONG ABOUT YOU BEING RIGHT ABOUT ME BEING WRONG :O
@Kaumudi I thought you said "Adios"?

@AaronAbraham well, i know very little about this field, it is a new topic to me
To be fair, I know very little about nearly everything

Touche ;)

enough to get by as an undergrad, but compared to people who really know stuff, it's really nothing

3:46 PM
But you're still better qualified than me for stuff like this ._.
So I'll still run to ye, if i've got a question ^_^
After all...
The saying goes..
With Mod. by your side, anything's possible...
;P

now I've really never heard of that

^SEE! @orthocresol

It was only a matter of time until a pun on this similarity would be made here :)

True XD
And that time HAS COME!
(Carp, M.A.R's here ;( )
Now he'll steal the spotlight
:'(

@S7S You have 23 rep combined in all the SE sites. That's enough for being able to chat.
@AaronAbraham I don't STEAL the spotlight. The spotlight was never anyone else's.

S7S
3:55 PM
@M.A.R. Yes Mithoron told me :-). Thank you!

Welcome to chat BTW

S7S
Thanks. I signed up just today ^_^. I like the site

@pentavalentcarbon As previously said, editing tools here hate you too.
@Loong Well, I guess you should divide the bill by 17,000,000,000 or something

@M.A.R. oh, yes, maybe

4:35 PM
Which brings us to the inevitable question; how many drops of water does an average lab in Germany use each month?

4:46 PM
Tell you what, I suspected this.
BTW, I used to have a sock. But I never voted with it.
I lost access. o.O

@M.A.R. Or it became sentient?
I have a couple of socks.
One on each foot.

@orthocresol Well, still dealing with this one.
@orthocresol You only have two feet? LAME

@M.A.R. I'll have you know that both my feet work perfectly fine.

All my seven feet work perfectly fine.

/╲/\╭(◕◕◕益◕◕◕)╮/\╱\

4:54 PM
@M.A.R. The plant where I prepared my diploma thesis used about 3E15 drops/month only as main cooling water. So the water from our labs didn't matter much. ;-)
