@jmort253 I don't really know what I want to do. But that is a very good point. I just thought about it and it is helping me come up with questions. I want to have fun as well as be busy and have the opportunity to accomplish big things
Your question intrigues me as well

It just really depends on what your goal is for the meeting... what is it you hope to gain... answering that should help you formulate what direction you plan to take the meeting.

Yea thats a good point, thanks man'
I want to know what has made him successful and if he still is having fun or if he even has fun
what were his goals when he started
what was his vision coming out of college
(sorry I'm just thinking out loud now, feel free to pitch in if you have any more thoughts

@JimG. Great example of why it's always a good idea to remain calm and not burn bridges... Opportunity can come from any direction.

@MonicaCellio looking through that thread is good
the only difference here is that these are community wiki
not sur if that makes it an even narrower edge case

@MattGiltaji that's a good point.

the main thing I got from the thread is from anna lear "'d say that this behaviour is more a side-effect of the fact that we're abusing meta to run these evals rather than a defect in the vote fraud detection. "

A: The vote fraud script breaks legitimate polling questions - A serial downvoter's lament

Anna LearWhile this is certainly a problem with how our current evaluations are set up... I'd say that this behaviour is more a side-effect of the fact that we're abusing meta to run these evals rather than a defect in the vote fraud detection. This is a very, very narrow edge case. Aside from these evalu...

with that said, I re-voted on the Q and answers on Ian's thread, and they haven't been removed yet

@MattGiltaji But this begs the question if there is a better way?
I could have posted each question individually but I dont think that would be good for anyone...

@IanHolstead Anna Lear's point is to not post a question and bunch of answers at once
but post the question, then let everyone add their own answers
actually
multiple questions might be easier
as the mods can tag the status-completed and such
with answers, that's not possible

1:34 AM
@MattGiltaji I could do that, but I guess I might not want to read though 14 meta questions...
(if I was different user)
what does everyone else think?
also @MattGiltaji congrats on 1K rep!

@IanHolstead I think n that's site wide rep :S

@MattGiltaji ahh
well then, congrats on 850 rep? Doesnt have quite the same ring :P

@IanHolstead lol

1:52 AM
anyway. if the votes get removed again (now that I have a screenshot as proof), then I'd take it to MSO and ask about community wiki questions and the voting fraud script.
right now I'll chalk it up to user error on my part somehow

@MattGiltaji well, more like the intersection of unusual-but-legitimate voting and non-sentient software (that doesn't understand why those votes were ok).

@CGCampbell Your 'talk' worked like a charm. I simply asked what their policy on drug use was. And they were very forthcoming with it. They simply didn't have a policy and didn't care, so long as I remained a productive employee, they didn't have a policy governing what I do in my off time. — Sid Jul 19 at 17:57
Great question with an interesting outcome.

@IanHolstead By the way, I really do appreciate you putting in the time to try to categorize things better. I've tried in the past, but it's just daunting! A lot of yours are very very well caught.

A: When are hugs acceptable in the workplace?

itcouldevenbeaboatYou can hug a co-worker if: You are a normal human being They are a normal human being Neither of you are literally on fire

@enderland It seems to have disappeared.

@jmac kill it with fire!
But only if you are not literally on fire

2:26 PM
@enderland I believe it has been sufficiently killed, though in the future it really helps if you make a comment pointing out why it is getting downvotes, so that I don't have to.

Q: I really don't know about the salaray... (web designing and so on.)

JungminI think I am asking a silly question but I'm going to because I am new, just graduated from school. (less experience) I am getting designed papers of website from graphic designers to build websites for many customers. At the same time, I manage company's server which contains clients website. ...

this is a blatant dup

@enderland and full of typos too

I'm going to downvote any answer there
It's such a blatant dup

i understand how we need to encourage quality (and this question should be closed as dupe), but how is that balanced against welcoming new users

eh that guy is a non-native english speaker
I think
Which I have more tolerance for than native english speakers :)

The wording can be corrected with an edit if the root question was worthwhile
see this one for an example

Q: How to answer an interview question about national politics?

xsari3xCurrently in Egypt we have a big mess in our national politics, lots of elections, new constitutions and such. Some companies now ask questions to determine the political preferences of candidates, along the lines of: Who did you elect? Did you vote on the new constitution? Did you vote yes ...

8:00 PM
That's a great question honestly

I know
nice to get smacked out of my American-centric bubble once in a while

People posting answers without cultural context...

they need to fix the first post review queue
I flagged as dupe outside of the queue but it will only let me "skip" or "no action needed" it
hmm, upvoting your comment with link to the dupe worked

yeah you have to do some action

8:21 PM
@enderland the system is smart enough to recognize an edit or vote I made outside of the review queue
just not a flag, it seems
on an unrelated note, it seems like this answer might get smacked with the banhammer

A: Why are Workplace answers removed without an explanation?

System 360Well, aren't you the answer to a maiden's dream, if you do (have to) say it yourself. Your allusion to a business model has intrigued me. I'll tell you what I'm going to do: I really don't have the time, I have a $30m/4 continent company to run, but your enlightenment has become important to me....

That guy is going places

EDIT: two people have made comments about the length of this. Sorry, but when you have an intern, to manage them well in almost all cases is going to be lots of work. If this answer is too long to be effective for you then you are going to have serious patience issues working with interns.
i love it

Heh, yeah, the comments on that answer are interesting

Q: How to get off on the right foot as an intern?

EggyI will be starting my first internship (and office job) soon and I need some guidance. I was given a coding task before the interview (I correctly completed it), however I still lack confidence in my programming skills. Is there any guidance you can give me? The company is fairly small (less t...

This is a great question

@enderland more plugs for your answers :p
i'd vote you up but I have one vote left and don't want you to get serially adjusted

4 downvotes away from 1k downvotes. nothing compared to @gnat though

I guess I need to downvote more, I have almost 1k up and 85 down

Heh I have a solid lead in for total score
Interesting query to run

9:17 PM
@enderland top percent for people with at least 50 answers: 46%... thats pretty impressive!

yeah, I'm trying to decide if 30% or whatever I've got is "good"

@jmac Thanks, its not nearly as daunting as most of the other stackexchange sites which have been released
@enderland 1 in 3 answers are accepted as the best? thats pretty good.

@IanHolstead Some of those folks have a much higher percentage though...

@enderland yes, but not much higher if you look at people who have a lot of answers
I mean I have a higher percentage then you! 1 good accepted answer and one answer which would be best deleted, but I don't think I am better at answering then you, I'm just more selective
Is there some kind of protocol for not retagging too many questions at a time? I (as per jmac's suggestion) am going to retag all the question which were incorrectly tagged tech-industry to software-industry but I feel like I read somewhere that we shouldn't retag too many old questions at a time...

3 hours later…
11:59 PM
@IanHolstead the main thing is that the edit timestamp will push those questions into the recent activity queue
i read somewhere to do small batches of like 2-4 questions
but don't remember where it was
