12:24 AM
@RhysW so many meta posts
:)
most (nearly all) of my inbox this week has been meta posts
@Chad I also do not remember such a question

12:40 AM
@RhysW Sleep is for the wicked/weak/alternative W-starting bad adjective

Jim
12:59 AM
@jmac There ain't no rest for the wicked

1:44 AM
@Jim and no sleep 'til brooklyn

Jim
@jmac I wish I had a response to that; I just don't

@Jim We aren't all perfect.
It is amazing that song was released 27 years ago
You weren't even born.

Jim
No, I wasn't

Amazing stuff.

Jim
and I automatically assume that means the 70s
then I do math

1:48 AM
I feel the pain.
(well, not really, but sympathy seemed a good idea)
you in Boston, or out west in the state?

Jim
just moved to boston

Tremendous city
I'd love to move back there
Sometime in the future

Jim
reading the 10 Working Principles in your profile, I initially thought it was 10 things about marriage
and I was thinking "these things could apply to a work environment as well..."

I will have to mention that -- pretty apt.

Jim
you from the area?

1:50 AM
Yeah, I grew up around there
New Englander through and through.

Jim
excellent

In Japan companies have company mottos of sorts.
That is one of the most famous

Jim
is that where you are now?

my last company had us all recite them, every day, starting at 8:30. One would "lead" it, and the other 50 people in the room would repeat it.
Yeah, I'm in Western Japan
Been here since '03.

Jim
nice

1:53 AM
That makes me the perfect match for this job
(more or less)

Jim
absolutely
you actually interested?

already applied actually

Jim
great, good luck!
although I doubt you'll really need luck

Quite unlikely I'll actually get it (I am lacking the 'experience building online communities' portion)
but I'd love to work remotely. I could move down to Ubud, Bali, and then move on back stateside

Jim
have you considered workplace.stackexchange.com ???

1:56 AM
Considered what about it?
(be back in a second)

Jim
I'd say you've been a part of building this community
as in you're one of the more active users driving where the site is going
it might not be your job to build the online community
but you're definitely part of the process
also I just need to share this song because I've listened to it about 300 times this week (despite the fact that it's not the kind of music I typically listen to for more than 30 seconds)
I will try to compensate with a geekier track
FWIW

I think SE probably has candidates with much more experience building communities
The issue with super-competitive jobs is that there will almost always be a better candidate.
Which is good -- I wouldn't really want a company to hire me if I'm not a good fit
I just wish the hiring process came with a bit more feedback in general -- the "send us your info, and we'll get back to you if we have any interest" just doesn't sit right.
(and I can't use spotify, being in Japan -- the net is really content-limited to the US)
(all of the network streaming video is blocked, save the daily show, no netflix, no spotify, no US hulu, etc.)

@Jim I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and realized that 1998 was.... 15 years ago :(
@jmac they probably don't have so many people who are fluent in english/japanese, though
@jmac I think you underestimate this ;)

@RhysW Re your tag cleanup:
1) Single use tags get automatically pruned after six months. If the tag is used on a closed question, just vote to delete the question, and the tag will go away with it.
2) Tags like , where there's a better alternative (in this case ) should be synonymized with the alternative. This way they won't be re-created (if synonymized, next time someone tries to create the system will automatically use instead)
3) There's no tag deletion per se. When an existing tag is removed from all its questions, it gets automatically "deleted" after 24h. However, that just means that the reputation requirement to re-create the tag is increased (don't remember the specifics). Usually, this is the same as completely removing the tag from the system, it's rare for a high rep user to recreate a bad tag.
4) "Burnination" requires intervention from SE. When you really want a tag completely removed from the system (like ), it's better to post a specific Meta question about it and try to make the strongest case possible on why the tag should be removed.
5) Noticed that you used normal links to point to the tag pages in your meta posts. A faster way is to use the [tag:<tagname>] format (and [meta-tag:<tagname>] for meta tags). The format also works in comments and in chat. For example, [tag:credentials] will generate

@YannisRizos Did not realize that works in comments
although it appears it just links to the tag page, rather than actually sticking a tag in there
