It doesn't cause any harm to discuss such things and sometimes do a little pro-active work. But sure, that is the reason why some tag cleanup requests didn't receive much attention: There are no real problems caused by it.
@Flow speaking about it: I'm just in the middle of the sd-card stuff. 'external-sd' might need a 'external-sdcard' synonym (like 'external-sd' has 'external-sdcard') for auto-completion when people type "sdcard". What do you think?
Aside from that, after having gone through 100+ questions, it seems like 'sd-card' has a reason to stay. There are several questions adressing it simply "non-internal-storage" (heck, who invented those terms -- I mean, not "phone storage" but "extended storage", or however you want to call that)...
Not exactly. They are about "sd-cards" in general. Like "how can I move apps to sd", which could address either internal or external.
Or file-permission stuff concerning "sd-card" (again addresses both, as even the internal ones at least emulate FAT, if not using it).
Running scripts from sd-card, again matching both.
Getting things out of "phone storage" to avoid "insufficient memory" error, again matches both.
And more. Just check the first 3 pages (ordered by "newest", skip those from today)
While for things like "Merge external SD with internal SD card?" I re-tag using both tags (external + internal).
@Flow and some questions I cannot re-tag as they have been merged, e.g. [Fix a damaged microsd card? [duplicate]](android.stackexchange.com/questions/25278/…) -- would a mod be able to re-tag those (i.e. could you check if you could re-tag this one)?
(this one should be 'external-sd', obviously)
Another funny thing: I just get an suggested edit, but only with a "skip" button. I can neither accept nor reject or improve. ???
@Flow Thanks! I see, so mods can do that. Curious if 20k+ might do that as well :)
@Flow If applyable, I tagged them "both". Others I left with 'sd-card' to decide upon later. I think a "generic" tag might make sense, see above examples.
@Flow That's correct. And I was asking for the similar stuff for the 'internal-sd' tag: Creating a symlink 'internal-sdcard' to point to 'internal-sd' :)
@Izzy In my experience it's a good idea to only give one answer: The one you are support/favor, since you can't upvote or downvote your own answer. meta.android.stackexchange.com/questions/1417/…
I did the same here ( meta.android.stackexchange.com/questions/1343/… ), giving a pro and contra answer and the result is that the votes doen't represent the real opinion. Because I am at 'no' at this one the 'yes' answer would have been done by somebody else which I could downvote
@Flow I thought about that as well (not being able to vote on the answers). But a) luckily there are humans counting the opinions, and b) I'm pretty neutral about in meanwhile. Rather switched to support GAThrawn's opinion, to just update the tag wiki. I can accept either answer (and thus get the question off my "reminder list"), so whatever the answer is, it can simply be marked "completed" or "rejected".
As it stands currently, I could even already follow the "no" part and update the tag wiki, which IMHO even seems the best approach.
@Flow I finished the sd-card stuff (uff, uff! ~400 questions!) So one more task done. We might proceed with the 'root' tag, whenever a mod (you?) separates it from 'rooting' :)
Oh, besides: the 'non-market' is also done. I decided to follow GAThrawn's arguments, so it required nothing but a nice tag wiki. You might wish to 'decline' that question/merge request :)
