Basically everything can beat java by an order of 3. That's why inter-language comparisons aren't meaningful.

Java can even beat Java, now that lambdas are a thing

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ It's a Monday™

3:38 PM
@mbomb007 Yeah, I saw that loophole not long ago. One moment.
10
A: Loopholes that are forbidden by default

MegoGenerating a random stream of output when a specific output is required For example, if a challenge requires you to output 4, you can't output an infinite stream of random digits, and say "4 is in there somewhere!" You must output 4, and no other number. This is similar to this other loophole.

@El'endiaStarman How is that relevant? The user isn't saying "the output is there somewhere," they're #define-ing a bunch of stuff and using that to shorten code.

Oh, I thought it was an infinite output issue.

Anonymous
No, the issue is that the user is using a made-up "language" created after the challenge was created, that was "created" specifically for the challenge

Oh, I see now, they're counting only the bytes after all the #defineing has been done.

3:47 PM
This on Meta seems pretty close
@Mego I wouldn't say that it was created specifically for the challenge, since the same "macro" was used for codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/94239/42963

Yeah, they need to split off the defines into another file and call that "the interpreter". Still icky, but I don't like those kind of "languages" much anyway.

It's pretty much a source-to-source compiler. If the user has a publicly-available compiler that takes input source file as they have it and spits out the appropriate executable, seems fine to me.

Anonymous
@TimmyD Then it was "created" specifically for that challenge, and then later reused for another challenge. It still postdates both challenges in question, though.

A: Is a code golfing library legitimate?

SuperJedi224I believe that it shouldn't be a problem, as long as: using the library does not violate the rules of the question you are using a version that was released before the question was posted that version of the library is freely available as of when you are posting your answer (please provide a li...

Thought: would a written set of steps describing exactly how to do source-to-source compilation count as a compiler for our standards?

3:52 PM
@Mego Postdate, sure, but that's not something that prevents answering. Just that it (usually) prevents winning. Simply postdating a challenge isn't in itself illegal.
Isn't this pretty much how Pyth got its start?

Anonymous
They're also very poorly optimized

Enough that I'd say they aren't serious contenders

On the first challenge, it's ~70 bytes longer than the existing C answer (ignoring the dubious scoring). I wouldn't be surprised if a real C answer was similarly shorter on the second challenge.
