Q: Flatten an array!

Oliver NiGiven an N-dimensional array (0 < N < 5) of integers, flatten it into a 1-dimensional array. Examples N: 1 Input: [3, 3, 5, 6, 2, 3, 5] Output: [3, 3, 5, 6, 2, 3, 5] N: 2 Input: [[3, 44], [6, 4, 74], [1, 4], [6, 93] Output: [3, 44, 6, 4, 74, 1, 4, 6, 93] Remember, this is code-golf, so the co...

@zyabin101 NOW!

8:13 PM
do we not already have a challenge to insert the input string into a given string?
i.e. to put a fixed string before and after it?

I'm pretty sure we do

Yeah, me too

@BetaDecay I clicked the "Let me explain why" button and it told me to edit my post to explain why it is not a duplicate. — Oliver Ni 1 min ago

@betseg Ugh, I was afraid this day would come.

seriously tho (no pun intended), it's a decent language

[citation needed]

don't we all?

guys
I had an idea for a code-challenge

that's us

8:27 PM
write a snake AI that finishes the game in the least amount of 'ticks' possible
on average (based on a bunch of random games)

Least possible (optimal)? Or best (compared to the competitors)?
So, golf or code-challenge?

Isn't that already a KOTH?

8:43 PM
@muddyfish is it?
@flawr that's.. eh.. heavy

@orlp I hope you like it=D

@flawr I like my noise gaussian
4

Oh, sure, how about this then

@mınxomaτ ...spooky...

@muddyfish I'd guess that wouldn't make it a duplicate, since this new challenge would be optimising for a 1 player game rather than dealing with an opponent

@trichoplax Considering the good points you've made, I think I'll follow suit.

Excellent

@orlp That is a great piece!
@orlp Symphony X includes a lot of Bach in their songs: youtube.com/watch?v=Z454yP-XkwU
oh sorry, that one was a bach junior

If you ask a question you realize is stupid, or you knew the answer already, or you make a statement in a similar vein, and then someone responds, there's no point to deleting it. Everyone makes mistakes and nobody's perfect, so why bother pretending otherwise?

8:54 PM
@flawr ;)
my god is that an ugly piano sound though

@orlp it sounds like an electric one

I dno
it sounds pretty awful
@flawr bit of a throwback, but this is pretty bach-y

@orlp haha, cool=)

@NathanMerrill Unfortunately, even though I've found a way to convey some ID information / have the bots figure out who's on which side, I haven't found a way to use this information effectively. The main issues are that 1) using turns to make progress in the game prevents the bots from using their turn to 'communicate" 2) reducing the number of move options each bot has (which is necessary for them to communicate) seems to dramatically increase the chance of the game entering a loop.
So far, I haven't been able to make anything beat the simple strategy of "move yourself unless doing so would cause you to exit the top 4 spots, in which case move anybody else"

@orlp I once made a blog where I listed occurences of classical pieces in modern music.
@orlp one of my absolute favourites: youtube.com/watch?v=PhRa3REdozw

@flawr that's cool but can you play through the fire and flames on guitar hero? :D

@orlp whut?

@flawr a joke
about guitar hero
being 'difficult'

9:19 PM
googling guitar hero

The Guitar Hero series (sometimes referred to as the Hero series) is a series of music rhythm games first published in 2005 by RedOctane and Harmonix, and distributed by Activision, in which players use a guitar-shaped game controller to simulate playing lead, bass guitar, and rhythm guitar across numerous rock music songs. Players match notes that scroll on-screen to colored fret buttons on the controller, strumming the controller in time to the music in order to score points, and keep the virtual audience excited. The games attempt to mimic many features of playing a real guitar, including the...

I just said I'm googling it.
Why would anyone play GH when you could play a real gutiar?

> The games attempt to mimic many features of playing a real guitar, including the...
But ^^, it's not really a replacement for real guitar.

For the same money you could get a real guitar, and actualy profit somethign.

9:34 PM
Because it's a video game. People like video games.
There's also a scoring system.
What happened to my picture?
OK, that's better

Does anyone have thoughts on this challenge?

@DmitryKudriavtsev caching=)

9:50 PM
@orlp hahaha
@BetaDecay Wha?

Wha wha?

ha

@quartata @DJMcMayhem we should do 2v2 tf2 again, that was pretty fun.

(we meaning me and ^)

@LuisMendo I found out that you can spend bazillions of $$$ in guitar pedals.

9:56 PM
We should have a PPCG Team Fortress Server. :3

@flawr You sure can. I have three. Currently about 100€ each. Plus the GT-100 multieffect unit, about 550€

(we meaning Conor, Easterly Irk, quartata, and DJMcMayhem.)

I don't have money so I can't pay for server >_>

@LuisMendo I did now buy a looping pedal, it is really great for practicing!

I have a bit, but not doing that unless I get somebody to ELI5 how to make tf2 server (not google) and more support.

9:59 PM
@flawr Oh, really? Which model? What does it do exactly? Record and then replay, or does it include other stuff? I've never tried one of those

@LuisMendo I bought it used, Boss Rc 30

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Use your thing with lights. :3
Yes you can. :3

Yes you can record replay / overdub, and you have two separate channels (not really necessary for practicing but still fun=)

@zyabin101 ???

including a basic drum machine/metronome

10:00 PM
@flawr Hey, that seems to do a lot of stuff!

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ your computer.

@LuisMendo I just connected a microphone (i have no electric guitar=)
That way you can also record vocals and stuff, it is really fun

@flawr Can it replay with long delays? That would be great for playing Pachelbel's canon with a single guitar
@flawr Next step: upload to SoundCloud :-)

@LuisMendo I think you could record up to 3h in total

10:02 PM
bah

Basically you can record, den overdub, and you can always delete the last overdub layer, if you add another one, the second last gets merged with the rest

@flawr It also has USB. That's great for recording into a computer (thogugh I know you don't want to do that yet)

@LuisMendo I also looked into a JamMan Solo (a single track looper) looks great too. But I didn't find it as cheap as the other one I have now=)
(even though it is cheaper when buying new)

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ heck yeah! Right now?

@LuisMendo I'm not that good=)

10:04 PM
@flawr Personally I love Boss pedals
@flawr Yet

@LuisMendo I just noticed that my favourite singer on youtube has the same one (and she actually aces this thing)

@flawr Hey, I like that song! Let's hear this cover
Very nice :-)
I have that guitar. Different colour
I only miss the laugh track, in this cover :-D

I guess this is now Guitar Chat

Actually this chat usually has several themes in parallel

Ooh, guitar chat, fun!

10:14 PM
@LuisMendo Fender Strat? Probably right handed version? =)

Wherever I read about electric guitar they all seem to talk about the fender stratocasters.
It seems they are like some kind of standard, right?

@flawr yeah, they're pretty common especially in blues
That's what I have

@DJMcMayhem I've read that there are still quite a variety of that model, do you know what they differ in?

@flawr Yes, quite standard, and versatile
@flawr There's the Standard American (expensive, better materials) and the Mexican (cheaper, but still good). Also, the freatboard can be rosewood (warmer sound. more sustain) or maple (crisper, brighter sound)

10:22 PM
Yeah, I have a Mexican. Not sure what the fretboard is though

@DJMcMayhem light: maple. Dark: rosewood
I have the second one, in that colour (midnight wine), Mexican version
And I'm very happy with it :-)

@LuisMendo They look just so beautiful!

It is! Haha. And sounds great

@LuisMendo ah, OK. I have rosewood then. And the body is that orange-brown ish color, so it looks like this:

Oh, the sunburst one!
Very beautiful!

10:27 PM
Yeah, that's the one. I couldn't remember what it's called, haha

@DJMcMayhem Really pretty.

Here's me playing it. Please forgive the awful sound

Thanks. :D I really want one of these:

Les Paul, right?
My second one would be a Tele

@LuisMendo What are the differences?

10:30 PM
@flawr The Telecaster has a characteristic, very sharp, cutting sound
It's a great sound, but not too varied
With the Strat you can get more sounds
The Tele is Bruce Springsteen's guitar sound, if that makes sense to you

@LuisMendo nice! It's always fascinating to see/hear people I know from PPCG. :)

@DJMcMayhem sure
@quartata?

I don't think I have any good videos. If I did it would probably be piano instead

@LuisMendo super trippy=)

@DJMcMayhem My friend left the electric drumset in my house for a few days. That was so fun :-)
@flawr trippy and crappy :-P

10:33 PM
@LuisMendo Yeah, drums are a blast to play. I'm not good at them, but I enjoy it a lot.

I should take some lessons eventually...

@DJMcMayhem I can play basic stuff. It's fun when you get to coordinate the bassdrum, snare and charles

@LuisMendo Congrats to the 1 subscriber milestone!

@LuisMendo Charles? What?

@flawr Oh, I hadn't noticed, haha, thanks!
@DJMcMayhem Or hi-hat? What's it called?

10:36 PM
hahahaha

@quartata :-D

@quartata Who made this? :3

Who do you think?
(hint look at the channel)

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Ooh wait I'm not sure if I can right now. Maybe a round or two?
Or maybe not

@LuisMendo :D

10:37 PM
@zyabin101 Why, I did :-D

@LuisMendo Oh, I've never heard it called that before. That's funny

We should make a survey and correlate guitar players with code golfers

@DJMcMayhem kk
talk on steam?
@LuisMendo nice song

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Thanks :-) It's a terrible, partial cover of Madonna's "Love profusion"

sounds good
@DJMcMayhem where did you go?

10:46 PM
I'm on

@LuisMendo ah i thoght I heard that before

Where did you go?
Oh wait a sec, my freaking Internet went out. :(

@flawr Speaking of Madonna and "Feel good Inc."... This is really good

11:05 PM
@LuisMendo Haha, also those animatios are great=)
(and ABBA is great too=)

@quartata Thank you for this.

A: Introduce Your Language!

Dennispl, 15 bytes Hello _, I'm pl Try it online!

hahahaha
The one thing it's good at

Good thing the language name is so short.
I tried Cinnamon Gum, but that's one long phrase (and I have now idea how it works).

It would be fHello %s, I'm Cinnamon Gum compressed.
But it would probably be longer.

Oh, no backticks?

11:07 PM
No need.
The backticks would be to evaluate the result again

ValueError: malformed node or string: <_ast.Name object at 0x7f23c83430b8>

Input needs to be in quotes.

@LuisMendo Speaking of mashups: Robin Skouteries is a master of this art, madonna vs faithless vs insomnia, but unfortunately he is frequently forced to take down his stuff (this video too, couldn't find it anymore on his original channel) this is his channel

@quartata facepalm
23 bytes. :/ Would have been 15 with language name CG. :P

Is that a feature request?

11:11 PM
Nah, not really.

I'm partial to the name :P

I got a few feature requests myself to rename Jelly to something shorter.

Wow, I just peeked at the pl interpreter source code and I'm actually amazed it works.
It's horrid.

I usually get that feeling when I look at Perl code. :P

I think I wrote it back during a time when I hadn't used Perl in a while and I forgot how to do things in it

11:14 PM
To be fair, 99% of the Perl code I've seen after 2002 came from PPCG. Readability isn't our strong suit...

@Dennis But irreadability is.

Definitely.
I had never used Python before joining this community. I read everywhere that it was supposed to be easily understandable, with little to no prior knowledge. It wasn't.

And after all real programmers are hired to write code, not to read code.

Well, I'm not a programmer. What's my excuse? :P

@Dennis When did you join?

11:25 PM
Profile says 2 years and 9 month ago.
Makes sense. I found PPCG thanks to code trolling.
