Hi. I'm like carrot JARJAR BINKS
NOONE LIKES ME
IM SAD AND ALONE

@Hurricane996, if you're not going to make any effort to converse constructively, then please don't bother.

@Hurricane996 I see you're in a room with 20 other people.
Mind you, those messages were fairly random.
It's the @AlexA. A name I shall never forget.
-_-
@AquaTart!

@Zizouz212 Huhwhat

I had an idea for a programming language. What if we made it so you tweeted an account to make the language work.

@AlexA. Wrong person.

3:11 AM
IE @tlang print("Hello")
would make @tlang tweet hello

@Hurricane996 It would be possible, akin to Mego's chat bot that can evaluate commands.

@Zizouz212 Surely you remember me.

Probably not hard, either.

I received a mysterious ping from an @AquaTart… I shall keep an eye. No one touches my site.

How about, we have a language-design challenge where the whole challenge is to make a single language, but each user is responsible for a small little piece of functionality?

3:12 AM
^

Rearange my name a bit.

Anonymous
@PhiNotPi That sounds like we'd end up with oxygen

Did you just call us a bunch of "socialist hippies"?
\o/
How dare you...

I got the idea from a computerphile video where he makes an SMS programming language!

Also why doesn't Chrome think chat is done loading...

Put the r in front of the first t and put the first a at the end, to be precise.

Have I been betrayed?

no no no it was just a joke
besides the Bikeshed coud use some activity ;)

Why is the Sandbox protected?

I see @Geobits is also to blame...

What happens when a weak veggie starts a fight?
It gets beet

@Downgoat Who did it? Community?

3:15 AM
@Zizouz212 yeah

@Downgoat Because Communty is being stupid

It's the fault of Community.

Probably auto - more than 20 deleted/low-quality answers would do it

huh, I can unprotect it

3:16 AM
I unprotected it this morning

@Downgoat Don't ask, just unprotect.

I thought only mods could do that

No

@Zizouz212 What's weird is that this didn't happen before today. Look at the edit history.

Nope. That's a privilege.

Q: Should we require test cases?

Nathan MerrillWe recently had a rather short challenge without any test cases. This sparked some conversation in chat, as well as some comments concerning its lack of test cases. As far as I can tell, we haven't formally set down any rules as to whether we need test cases or not. Therefore: Should test cas...

this Community person sounds like a troublemaker

3.5k beta 15k normal

better suspend

Well, it happened last September, but it's happened thrice today.

Hell, how to we kick Community out of our sandbox?

3:17 AM
Sounds like the Community doesn't like you guys.
:P

@Zizouz212 s/the //

@Doorknob We should probably take this to (site or SE) Meta. Community protecting the question runs counter to the change of rep threshold for posting to 1 rep.

@El'endiaStarman But how much do you need to post on meta anyway?
There's a req for meta posts

@Zizouz212 1 rep
on PPCG

Can't be.

3:18 AM
50ish

@El'endiaStarman yeah I'm scouring meta.SE for an explanation

I swear it was 5 or 10 or something

@Zizouz212 It was lowered specifically for us for the Sandbox.

Ah, makes sense then

^^

3:19 AM
1 rep users are the ones who need to use it most.

@Doorknob You'll probably need a feature request for that, don't recall having ever seen one before

@Hurricane996 Chat flags summon the wrath of every single 10k+ user and moderator on chat. Please only use them for serious situations.

Yes sir *shamey face*

why are some people's names blue in the sidebar?

Mods.

3:21 AM
We mods!

... did you just notice that? >_>

woohoo mods!

oh

Blue storm!

3:21 AM

I donut seeit

Donuts? You realize that you're speaking to a Canadian... right?

I ment to use an u

lol, I'm playing with the words :)

Why does my keyboard correct u to u

3:23 AM
Someone falsely raised a chat flag and didn't get suspended?

Anonymous
Bunch of hippies :P

@Mego it wasn't really false, just not that important
2

I didn't falsely raise one. That would mean I raised one for no reason at all
^^

Good. Open Source isn't the place where the hippies are.

@Zizouz212 aha! he admitted it

3:25 AM
It's here!

My apologies, I don't like the H word

Wait, am I a hippie? I hang out on Open Source and here... -_-

@Zizouz212 Well, you're canadian, so you live in canada. Or lived there, you might of moved
No offense

Wait. Are you calling Canadians hippies now?

I'm saying canadians either live or lived in canada

3:27 AM
You called a Canadian a hippie. That's not a good thing. I'm warning you...

I am leaving
I have to write in my journal
It's a real journal, but not real events

@Doorknob we really need a big yellow banner at the top of each chat saying "only flag spam or abusive statements"

Sounds obtrusive.

that's... the point

Sounds like spam

3:30 AM
Was there a flag?

Anonymous
@NathanMerrill Or, you know, users that can use common sense/their brains and read the message that says "flag this message as spam or offensive"

Did I miss it!
I love flags!
I just thought of a brilliant idea!

@Mego the hover message is on a delay

@Zizouz212 I could flag your messages if you'd like...

@NathanMerrill I think there's a modal that pops up

3:30 AM
It says inapropriate too. The h word is inapropriate

err, no

ah ok. I haven't actually clicked on it

@NathanMerrill I mean, AFAIK. I don't recommend actually trying it :P

Ooh missed a chat flag

Anonymous
Quick let's say hippie a bunch so hurricane will flag all the messages and get suspended for abusing flags

3:32 AM
The word isn't hippie
It's h***

@Hurricane996 we don't have any restrictions on swear words

@Mego This is the part where you are supposed to post your Meta SE spongebob flag meme thing

Then i qwit

Anonymous
@AquaTart Ah right yes

@Hurricane996 That isn't nice/appropriate in any context

very hostility, much angriness

Anonymous
Well, unless you're talking to a vacuum cleaner or a black hole. In those cases, you have other issues.

@Mego I talk to the roomba sometimes…

@Hurricane996 You've had more than enough warnings. I flagged that last message, which gave you a short 30 minute suspension.
I suggest you take that time to read over some of the responses to your messages if you intend to return to chat again

Isn't admitting to violating the TOS worthy of a ban?

@Mego That's unrelated. Rest assured the CM team will handle it however they deem necessary

It depends on how the account was set up I think; the child protective law thing has some weird exceptions

Anonymous
@AquaTart COPPA? SE doesn't allow COPPA exceptions (such as having a parent/guardian accept the TOS on their child's behalf), as far as I can tell from the TOS.

But COPPA does.

Again, it'll be taken care of

3:40 AM
Oh, OK. I'm not a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination

Anonymous
Sure, but that doesn't mean SE has to allow that. They can (and apparently do) require you to be 13 years or older, no exceptions.

We needn't worry about it. It's out of our hands.

Either way not the job of the mods

Not a moderation issue anyway.

ninja'd

Anonymous
3:40 AM
Eh, at this point it's more of a discussion about the TOS/COPPA than about a specific user

Also not a moderation issue. :P

Let's talk about puppies instead

Anonymous
Yes, but a valid discussion topic :P

Anonymous
@AquaTart Most puppies aren't old enough to be able to accept the TOS

It's way above our pay grade. Mainly because we don't get paid.

3:41 AM
hahaha

Anonymous
We should get paid

Anonymous
$1 for every chat star received or for every byte golfed

guess who's answering every single challenge in Rust and Java from now on

technically mods get paid in swag I suppose

oh noes moar stars
@AquaTart After graduation, maybe.

3:43 AM
whoops, I accidentally left that comment in there. Haha, what a silly mistake! Now gimme my $60

Anonymous
By "byte golfed" I mean for each byte shorter you make your answer

@Doorknob I'm convinced. Here's my wallet.

Anonymous
So like going from 70 bytes to 65 would be 5 dollars

OK, I'll answer in Unary.

lel joke's on you, my wallet's empty ;-;

3:44 AM
@Dennis You can get a mod hat if you want right now if you poke the right people. :P

Anonymous
Or maybe $18/(length of answer in bytes) per answer

@Doorknob I'll sharpen my stick.

Anonymous
What does a mod hat even look like? Is it a floating diamond above your head? Do you become a Sim?

@Mego 18? Why 18?

We graduated! :O

3:45 AM
@Mego It's a hat with a blue diamond on it, so pretty much

@Mego MetaGolfScript, 0 bytes: INFINITY DOLLAR

@Doorknob Becuse golf

@Calvin'sHobbies Wait, really? I hadn't heard.

@AlexA. Standard loophole: $20 penalty

@Calvin'sHobbies no, @Geobits just hacked a CM's account

Q: Congratulations, you're graduating!

Grace NoteIt's a big day, and I know you folks have been waiting a reeeaaal long while. Double waiting, you might even say, since unfortunately we made you wait even longer after initial news. But, let's make it official! You've been cleared for graduation by the Stack Exchange Community Team! Programming ...

@Calvin'sHobbies Scroll down, I left an answer.

@Calvin'sHobbies ....you fell for that too? :P

Geobits and Grace Note both start with a G. Dead giveaway right there.

in Pytek, 38 secs ago, by El'endia Starman
Crazy notation idea: 1 [] 5 for [1,2,3,4,5], 1 [) 5 for [1,2,3,4], 1 (] 5 for [2,3,4,5], 1 () 5 for [2,3,4].
Thoughts?

why not something like [1..5)?

.....golfiness? :P

Pytek isn't supposed to be golfy, is it? :P

Well, really, it's mostly because 1..5 is supposed to be [1,2,3,4,5] (with or without the ending 5), so wrapping it in delimiters is a bit weird.

Anonymous
3:50 AM
@Doorknob I suggested that a few days ago

Anonymous
Using delimiters makes it clearer

@El'endiaStarman .. being equivalent to [] would be a bit confusing

You guys weren't supposed to figure out it was a troll for another couple days...

@El'endiaStarman Incredibly confusing.

He did say Crazy :P

3:51 AM
@Doorknob Well, what would you expect 1..5 to be?

@El'endiaStarman I think its clever, and if it was standard, it would be convenient. However, that said, it would add another item to remember in the order of operations

1,2,3,4,5 in a "regular" language, but with your syntax I wouldn't expect it to work at all

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman It's not that you would expect 1..5 to be something else, it's that you would expect the syntax to be [1..5]

@NathanMerrill range is usually one of the... err, what's the term, least-precedence-thingies

Anonymous
3:52 AM
It's the syntax that's confusing, not the output

In Ruby and Rust, .. has close-to-lowest precedence

@El'endiaStarman how about you make one of the notations work for normal int ranges, and the other for the real intervals I suggested a few days ago?

@Doorknob right, but parenthesis are often used as high precedence operators

@Doorknob Not very helpful behavior for a moderator. Many new users reading that might actually believe it. -.-

@NathanMerrill ahhh, yeah
@Calvin'sHobbies chat regulars as far as the eye can see :P

3:53 AM
Except people not logged on

Anonymous
@Doorknob Yeah, and luckily nobody else will ever read that in the future, because there's no public transcript. OH WAIT

wait, Geobits didn't hack?

@Maltysen Would it be bad to have both [1..5] and 1..5 be [1,2,3,4,5]?
And for that matter, how would you wrap it in a list? [[1..5]]?

then how do you make [[1,2,3,4,5]]
ninja'd

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it.

3:55 AM
See, if it was 1 [] 5, there's no ambiguity.

@El'endiaStarman kinda thinking of the whole zen of python, "only one way" thing

Hey guys! I heard you were graduating :)

Or you could go with the precedent and just do n..m for inclusive and n...m for exclusive

Anonymous
If you're gonna steal Haskell syntax, you might as well go all the way

@Seth thanks! :)
@Doorknob This leaves no way to get [2,3,4,5] or [2,3,4] from 1 and 5, but that's rarely something you even have to do anyway

Anonymous
3:56 AM
@Maltysen ninja'd

@Doorknob s/rarely/never/

I'd prefer something like n..<m
or some other symbol

... and even if you do, with sane precedence it's just n+1..m

another dot is easy to miss

Anonymous
3:57 AM
@Doorknob Yep, closed and open-ended lists are the most common

Anonymous
I still say use math notation

@NathanMerrill seems vaguely familiar. Does some language do that already?

not that I know of

Anonymous
Well, semi-math notation. [1,5] would be math notation, but that means something entirely different for most langs

IMO [1..5) makes [1,2,3,4] and [1..5] makes [1,2,3,4,5]. To me that makes sense.

3:59 AM
@NathanMerrill Nope. We really have graduated (or almost have). The "beta" in our logo has gone and the graduation post user's network profile matches Grace Note's. (Maybe you're joking too, but w/e. It's seems rude for everyone to still joke about it.)

@AlexA. For most languages that's 1...5 and 1..5

@Doorknob I've never seen ...
