@Jaywalker the correct term for "pedanticism" is pedantry. (Normally I wouldn't point this out, but in this case I couldn't resist the irony.) — Nathaniel 13 hours ago

hahahaha
Oh hey, that's our same Nathaniel, the one who did Starry Night.

Quotes pedanticism and italicizes pedantry? -1 pedant score.

Uh, do formula...

@Mego basically, input is a list of data that represents some value measured at a specific interval

So take an array, call it x.
Have x = [-2, -1, 0, 1, 2].

You mean a list :P

Q: A Free Sample of Autocorrelation

Alex A.Consider a 1-dimensional, real-valued vector x that represents observations of some process measured at equally spaced intervals over time. We call x a time series. Let n denote the length of x and denote the arithmetic mean of x as x̄. The sample autocovariance function is defined as for al...

Say we want h = 2, so the 2-lag of x. You use [-2, -1, 0] with [0, 1, 2].

You did the correlation coefficient challenge, right?
This is similar to the correlation coefficient, but you compute it on the array with itself, shifted back by some amount.

Anonymous
2:18 AM
Ahh that makes more sense

@AlexA. in your example, you have input as n, x. do you mean h, x?

Yes I did, thanks!

I'm trying to think of a way to do a "xuffling" challenge.

Is that like huffing paint?

It doesn't quite match the dimensions I was hoping for (a square, with one connection on each side)
It's really nice that it is lagless though.

2:25 AM
@PhiNotPi Ah, you wanted it in the shape of a cross? Yeah, that's a challenge.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ My internet connection was as flawless as can be. Ethernet at work.

The cross shape would allow it to be represented as a single "meta-meta tile" for the next stage of abstractions.
So far all of the other gates are square and lagless.

Hey guys, is the use of Lodash disallowed in JS submissions? codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/73331/41247

That depends. What is Lodash?

2:30 AM
What's the url to add a feed to a chatroom? Like for new main posts or sandbox answers? Is it just the normal page url?

A library like jQuery.

It's an external library
so yes

But what about jQuery?

@Calvin'sHobbies it's the RSS feed url
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ jQuery is disallowed too
AFAIK

I assume you're talking about this challenge in particular

2:31 AM
Yeah.

@Doorknob How do I find that?

@Calvin'sHobbies by clicking the link that says "feed"

@Doorknob Hold on, what? Since when?
If I'm not mistaken, there are jQuery submissions.

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ I don't see any reason why it would be allowed to include an external library for free

Thanks!

2:32 AM
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ On that challenge already?

@AlexA. No in general.

Oh. External libraries are fine when allowed.
When in doubt, ask for clarification from the author.
But if it requires an import, you don't get the import for free.

@AlexA. Nope not required. I got a downvote, so I assume it was wrong to use a lib.

Could be. Best to ask the OP.

If the "import" is really "include this file from the internet," then AIUI it's not allowed because that's using an external source
but I'm maybe wrong

2:35 AM
Okay I asked. I'll be concocting another solution in the meantime.

@Doorknob Is that how imports work in JavaScript? I don't script in Java so idk.

Firstly, Node has require and stuff.
Secondly, ಠ_ಠ

@AlexA. You usually need HTML to include external sources.
usually, on the web
You can "import" using JS, but that's a whole 'nother monster.

Anonymous
In somewhat-sane JS, you'd have <script src="somewhere/library.min.js"></script> in the head part of the HTML of the page. But, with pure JS, you can't directly import libraries, so for our porpoises, you can indicate the library in the header, and assume it's properly loaded

Whats the twitter account where popular ppcg questions are autotweeted?

2:39 AM
@Mego So... does that mean that using Lodash is "allowed" by default?

(and is there a meta.ppcg version?)

@Calvin'sHobbies no

@Quill Who are you replying to?

no

2:39 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies No, there are no meta tweets

You know you're doing a bad job when your code is twice as large as a Python answer and you're only half way done.

@phase What language?

Anonymous
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Sure, but indicate it in the header. The downvote was probably from someone who disliked code that uses 3rd-party libs

@phase You're not doing a bad job. The important part is enjoying it. :)

Anonymous
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Yeah, I saw. You did everything right.

Why are you using $ for the name?
Instead of, like, f or something

2:44 AM
@ThomasKwa Because why not?

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ That's a sufficient reason, I guess.

Well, the original quine framework (made by me) was called a "bling quine".
Because of the $'s.

So it just looks better?

@AlexA. I can't understand it.
Plus Dennis already took Jelly, and I think he'll win.

2:46 AM
What can I do to clarify?
@ThomasKwa Probably not. Some guy used 3 bytes in R: acf.

Are there any other rss-feedable PPCG related things besides main posts, featured psost, meta posts, sandbox posts, and StackCodeGolf twitter posts? (not doing loopholes tafa)

@AlexA. I didn't know that existed. :O

@Zgarb It does indeed. Some say it's operated by the ghost of Jeff Atwood.
(who isn't dead, by the way)

It's weird how it tweets Meta posts too.

@Calvin'sHobbies tags, chat messages, chat stars
user posts, user activity

2:53 AM
ah, tags!

@Zgarb It does?
Oh it does

Are theoretically incorrect answers allowed if it's (near) impossible to find incorrect inputs? http://meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/8379?atw=1

Hey @Calvin'sHobbies, that Twitter account also posts meta stuff

@Quill Sounds deep and philosophical. Clickers will be disappointed.

We can have a feed that posts recent chat messages?

2:56 AM
literally all the HNQs are clickbait titles
@PhiNotPi I think it needs a keyword

@PhiNotPi Where would it post them? Back into chat?

lol
I tried to set it up so that I got messages with "code review" in them from here
Turns out you can't specify a room with chat message rss feeds
so it just looped itself, you can see that here, if you're curious: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/26724000#26724000

What was fun was when this question was on HNQ

Q: Jon Skeet easter eggs

zondoI have heard things about Jon Skeet such as if you search for guru in google, it will ask if you meant Jon Skeet, but are there really any Easter eggs on this site related to Jon Skeet?

3:03 AM
@Quill I'd add that if there were ever going to be new ones. (Or are there often new ones that just get migrated?)

Idea: Numbers whose factorization is 2^a * b * (2a + b) should be known as Doorknob Numbers.
Where a, b, and 2a+b are all prime.

@Geobits starts golfing

I'm thinking about posting it, but it seems both simple and arbitrary. Still deciding.
Our @Doorknob is the 11th Doorknob Number (3808), unless I've gone wrong somewhere.

Q: Jon Skeet flagged low quality. How to handle this LQ post?

Austin MullinsI guess it happens to the best of us: http://stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/5308506. Screenshot: That depends on what you mean by "represent". Do you just want round-tripping, or the decimal representation of the exact value? Does it have to be human readable, or could you ...

2^5 * 7 * 17

3:09 AM
... interesting definition

3808 is just not very interesting :P

Have you tried plugging it into Wolfram Alpha?
That's how I got Calvin Numbers :P

Yea, there's a lot of sequences including it. I was originally going to do apocalyptic+evil (he's in both), but very few sequences overlap enough to be interesting.

what now?
oh yeah, those

3:11 AM
TIL I am apocalyptic and evil
you don't say?

... It's in 118 sequences in OEIS

Right. I really wanted something that specifically is not in OEIS.

hmmmm what about searching for cellular automata that contain it as the number of white cells at some step?

I would, except that I don't like CA ;)

Ahh. How about 2-tag systems?

3:15 AM
I'm not sure how to make a sequence of numbers containing 3808 from that, tbh.
I want an integer sequence specifically.
I suppose I could just forget about Doorknob and do somebody else's number instead :P

I wouldn't be offended :P

Yea. Like I said, it seems pretty arbitrary the way I had it. Your number sucks ;)

14215 is a number that cannot be written as a sum of 3 squares. <- geobits' user id btw

My number is basically awesome.

Anonymous
I'm 45941, which is 7 * 3^8 + 14, which could be generalized to a * p^(a+1) + 2a

3:20 AM
why don't you do the room number

binary numbers seem a lot easier to find a pattern for

Anonymous
Because 240 is boring

also, u+geobits' number in hex = ໋

Also, you can't have a sequence named after you if it's the room number :P

wait, my bad

3:21 AM

@somebody It must be referring to Bigtoes.

My uid only appears in one OEIS sequence: oeis.org/A056640

also, TIL my PPCG id is 1 + a palindrome in binary

@Geobits Dk's chat id is 59776 which is interesting since it has one digit exactly one away from making it rearrangeable as a run: 567[7+1]9 -> 56789

3:24 AM
Oh that's nice :)

Still pretty arbitrary, but use it if you want :P

I probably won't tonight anyway. Need sleep at some point I guess.

it seems like Dennis number-level arbitrary

^
Too bad Marky's new brain isn't ready for prime time yet. Perplexity still at 40 :(

Does that look good?

3:28 AM
It looks pretty nice. How does it look on mobile? That's my primary use case, since the sandbox itself is absolutely unusable on mobile.

@somebody Speaking of @Dennis numbers, I didn't realize they made it to OEIS: oeis.org/A263172 :O

@Geobits Oh, there's no mobile version yet :/

@Downgoat Looks good, but the ratios seem a bit off

I might make one when I get more time though
@MichaelKlein around the sandbox post's preview?

@Calvin'sHobbies it took like 4 months iirc

3:29 AM
@Downgoat I thought about doing an Android native app for it some time ago, but lazy happened.

@Geobits isn't a pinned website good enough?

@Downgoat It took me a moment to tell what was going on. I looked to the left column first, which I believe is supposed to be more of a sidebar?

@somebody If it's done well, sure. I'm better with Android than I am with web, though :P

Anonymous
@somebody The sandbox is pretty unusable on mobile

@Downgoat the button grouping is a bit weird, you could colour the two columns separately

3:31 AM
@MichaelKlein yeah, I'm trying to fit a lot of information, so it will look pretty bad (in terms of spacing)

@Downgoat I think this is really, really nice.

@Mego I mean make @Downgoat 's idea responsive, then get Android users to pin that (if possible)

@Downgoat How about rule of thirds?

Apparently my user ID is part of a sexy prime quadruple: p+6 such that p, p+6, p+12 and p+18 are all prime
Good to know

@MichaelKlein no idea what that is

3:32 AM
imo a popup is for only a little bit of content, you should make it jump to full screen and make use of the space more

@somebody Right right. I'm not going to do it now that this exists. I meant a year or so ago.

@Downgoat I found it in photography: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds It's a rule of thumb for design (If you look, it pops up a lot in certain movies, ads etc)

huh, I'll try to do something with that but then again, I'm not good at layout

@Sp3000 obligatory ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@Geobits 3808 is a number such that f(x) = x - (largest fibonacci number < x) takes 240 steps to reach 1.

3:35 AM
o_O wow

@Downgoat That's the point, thirds are simple. So the left could be 1/3, right 2/3. upper 1/3 etc

3808 is a number x such that x = 3808

hmm I'm tempted to put a bounty on Grocery Store Micromanagement but I'm not sure if it'll attract much attention.

@MichaelKlein and 240 is TNB's room number :o

3:36 AM
"thirds are simple" reminds me of old "create a 3-column layout" interview questions :/

@Calvin's Hobbies Also a constructible polygon number, not sum of 3 squares, idoneal, etc. Plenty to work with

I'm guessing so. I can't imagine he's at 918 in here already.
