Q: Someone know a lightweight Linux distro with a quick boot time that I can install on a VM?

question: should i create apache user which owns the virtual host dirs or should i not bother?
@TheveryevilROFLcopter arch

@Downgoat Apache does this by default

oh :|

Wait no I already tried to install Arch it was fun LOL

7:02 PM
At least assuming you're installing a sane package

> ISO Size: 792.0 MB
huh no

Wentel x87: The machine code language harder than brainfuck™

@TheveryevilROFLcopter You'll be hard pressed to find something smaller.

Define a function? Easy, mate! Just modify the memory values over there and move the execution pointer over there

Kernel + Bash + Coreutils + A package manager is normally not so heavy

7:04 PM
It's a full mountable filesystem
It has all sorts of things it needs
Not just coreutils
Also I think it has 32 and 64-bit binaries on the same thing

@El'endiaStarman hahaha

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Oliver NiDraw a Fibonacci series of squares Introduction To draw a Fibonacci series of square, you start by drawing a one-unit square: _ |_| Then another one to the left: _ _ |_|_| Then a two-unit one on top: _ _ | | |_ _| |_|_| Then a three-unit one on the right: _ _ _ _ _ | | | |...

@Dennis none of those on my screen

@ConorO'Brien Interesting. Which browser do you use?

Firefox

7:15 PM
vihan.org :D :D :D

hoorah!

shit its still not working >_> ;_;

7:31 PM
Huh, looks like jQuery doesn't support arraybuffers so I have to use regular XHR anyways
So now I'm just using Perl. That reduces it from two blasphemies to one hopefully @Downgoat

+1 for not using jQuery

@Downgoat HAI

good! now switch the font to something decent

that is just for someting testing
i will get my blog up and running with it

7:34 PM
nice!

question: what does a flag do in rsync
i know it's archive
but what does that mean

Where can I find a list of browsers that support XHTML Request Level 2?

;_; i use opera mini

Bummer. I was hoping it would be better supported

7:42 PM
@quartata everything but ie, nothing unusual there :P

Chrome 49+ is pretty bad
I was on Chrome 44 until recently

@quartata i got 49 recently, don't notice anything that new?

@Maltysen No I mean only supporting that version or higher

oh lel

7:53 PM
@ConorO'Brien Yeah, I got the same result. It was just a quick and dirty proof of concept. With label's, it works fine.

@Dennis oh, cool

@DJMcMayhem I'm still doing well with the perfect pitch thing.

@Downgoat Do you want feedback?

@Dennis on website?

Yeah.

7:56 PM
@Downgoat o_O dat site

@PhiNotPi Haha, nice. Now I'm gonna have to try that too.

@Dennis I'm guessing its to not dynamically generate through AJAX from an XML

@Downgoat o_O

@Downgoat Didn't look at the source. There are some usability issues though.

As a sound engineer, one other thing I've wanted to do in terms of ear-training is to listen to and identify a random pitch in hertz

7:58 PM
@DJMcMayhem TBH I'm not sure that I'm "starting from scratch" so to speak... It's hard to tell if my method is working or if I already had some ability.

@Downgoat recommendation about the cheddar installing script:

@PhiNotPi Well I'm sure previous musical experience counts for something

@betseg cheddar installating script is deprecated
use package manager

oh

What instruments do you play?

7:59 PM
but that site still exists ;_;
@DJMcMayhem block flute ;_;

Clarinet (about 10 years, since 5th grade)

mysql> quit
Bye
XD

Identifying random pitches in hertz seems pretty cool.

Oh cool. I've never learned any wind instruments unless you count harmonica

I actually feel like identifying hertz could be easier... the ability to identify notes requires no more than 3% error in perception.
With hertz, you could be 10% off and call it "rounding"

8:03 PM
Yeah, it would also be really useful (at least for me). I spend a lot of time EQ'ing things, so it would help to no exactly which pitch you're hearing.
@PhiNotPi So I just tried it (with a C) and in about two minutes I went pretty sharp.

@Downgoat Does JS have mulit-line strings?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ?????

@quartata yes

I had perfect pitch when I took a musical ability test a while ago

@Dennis Done. The comments work the same way as in python (# for line comments). Because of this, the debug flags are now @ instead of #.

8:08 PM
@Downgoat What are they?
"""?
Or is it like a heredoc?

`...`

@Downgoat your website's font is way too thin

Oh, those. Aren't those ES6?

;_;
@quartata yeah but everyone supports them by now

@Downgoat except for IE but who cares about that

8:10 PM
@Downgoat I'll just escape the newlines I guess

yeah, just add \n\ to the end of each line for multiline string

@DJMcMayhem just... keep working at it.

@DJMcMayhem C -> C#?

> A Java Virtual Machine written in 100% JavaScript.
online demo

my god
that is scary

8:18 PM
@Downgoat And it has a JS emulator written in Java inside a JVM written in JS!

halp people have too much time

There is sigint, a file system, and network sockets.
@Downgoat Star it.

Recommended features failed to activate. SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token '<'
wordpress is the stupidest thing i have ever used

tab completion too!

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Which run a JVM which run a JS emulator which run a JVM which run a JS emulator which...

8:26 PM
@ConorO'Brien almost

PyPy is a restricted statically typed subset of python, but this version is true inception.
doppiojvm.org has a live online demo of a JVM emulator written in javascript. Inside that is a javascript emulator written inside java.
star

8:41 PM
@Downgoat Why are you still using it
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC RPython is, PyPy is not
PyPy is just an interpreter for regular Python

Took me several games to succeed in matching all 15 countries. Mercator Puzzle Redux

Also RPython isn't statically typed

Also, Ventusky is a really cool global weather visualizer.

@El'endiaStarman That didn't seem like it would be hard until I tried...

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ ????
it's a portal bedroom

8:45 PM
@quartata I mean the PyPy implementation

@quartata The Bahamas are the worst by far. At least, of the ones I've had to deal with.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Wow, I actually totally didn't see that picture because I've become accustomed to image one-boxes being irrelevant to the surrounding conversation(s).
Like banner blindness.

lol
@El'endiaStarman cool image though

How do I generate random numbers along an exponential curve? For example, let's say I want a number in [1, 1,000], but I want numbers around each power of 10 to be equally likely. I was thinking something like 10 ^ rand_float[0, 3]. Does that make sense?

@DJMcMayhem Yeah

OK, that's what I thought

8:59 PM
@El'endiaStarman aha! first try

Hello
I'm not back.
I have to say a few things.

1) I'm tapping the rest of the Remaining Bytes group @Sherlock9 to get them acquainted that it is shutting down.

2) I have so much users in the ignore list, that chat has collapsed into a small enough page.

9:07 PM
Okay, that's uncalled for. That's just saying "I don't want to see a bunch of you again just fyi".

3) Even after my suspension has ended, can I still discuss it?
Until this question is answered, I have no more things to say.

Yes, as long as you are civilized.

And now I leave, after a few last minutes here.
zyabin101 the Hated, 2015 — 2016
<br />

@zyabin101 You can discuss your suspension if you want to. It would be considered rude if someone else brought up your suspension or you brought up someone else's.

9:15 PM
?

It blinks when you're paused

@El'endiaStarman the small ones are evil

pls halp i did a astupid and accidentally printed entire contents of all database to stdout and now bork ;_;

@Dennis noice

@zyabin101 when people are trying to help you. I cannot fathom why you choose to ignore and disregard everything and complain the whole world hates you and rage quit.

I have a working wentel x87 --interpreter-- Virtual Machine done
not online yet

@El'endiaStarman Okay got it on the second try (I refreshed the first one because I accidentally double-clicked Gambia while dropping it off...)

Those who were lucky to not get in the list at the moment of suspension, who wishes to join the Remaining Bytes?

@zyabin101 link?
just stop complaining that everybody hates you when nobody does and we'll act like it never happened

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC No we won't do that.

@zyabin101 Remaining Bytes?

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ It's a Google Spaces space.
For PPCG users.

Have an account, link?

I'll send the invite as a privnote.
The password for it is opentrb.

Got it
(and I'll have to remember that site, seems useful)

What are you waiting for, @ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ, share something with TRB :)
I'm gonna do some majik with the awe-inspiring power of Hangouts :3
I sent a message to LegionMammal via Hangouts, but they don't answer. :/
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ why didn't you accept the invite?
It was me, zyabin101. :/

9:49 PM
@zyabin101 I did
Posted "No idea"

do we need polyfill/babel for python?

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ I mean, the Hangouts invite.

@zyabin101 Never got it

@zyabin101 is this your halloween avatar?

9:55 PM
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ look in hangouts.google.com?

Is it?

Is there a email equivalent for GitHub pages? I need a free, decent quality email service that looks professional.
Just like http2.github.io looks more professional than http2.weebly.com

10:25 PM
Is GMail not professional-looking?

no
not professional enough @Doorknob

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC So you want a custom email domain?

@ASCII-only that isn't free...

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC GitHub issues.

somebody spent 100k for that!?

Yes. The color TLDs are popular choices for mail blacklists so I guess they fulfill some goal
Still need to get my hands on a .tatar domain. I'm super lazy....

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ coool!
they are super cute, aren't they?

is anybody australian in here by a chance?

@flawr I love snakes.

@flawr yes. they really are. :3

it is to loophole some tld registration rule...

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC As in drop any messages whose sender domain has that TLD
@DJMcMayhem And Quill.

Yeah, but he isn't in here very often anymore

@quartata why though?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ everyone make halloween avatars

10:40 PM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Yeah, Me, Qwerp-Derp, Quill, grc, Sp3000

@flawr but but i like golden cat :(

@zyabin101 Welcome back btw

@flawr I still have one of my old ones

10:41 PM
@quartata poor people looking for cheap domains

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC But they're not cheap

@quartata well my current one is also from last year

@ASCII-only diversity meter overflowed again. Going to 256 bit integer

@flawr A bit early for that (also do we use DeepMind)

Let me put it like this: show me an actual message you received from a .red or .blue domain and I'll unban them from mine :PP

10:43 PM
@flawr I'd participate!

Meanwhile when someone has the clever idea of spamming from a pokemon.red domain as a prank I'll be sitting comfortably behind my keyboard sipping tomato juice

Yes. It's my favorite.

@ASCII-only It's never too early. A friend who is primary school teacher has been practicing christmas songs for two months now.

If anybody has $357.10 to spend, I reccomend buying ihave.hiv.

I'm not the only one with crazypython
But I have the top five search results (DON'T DO THE SEARCH, THAT'S STALKING)
I am the most prominent... there's another crazypython with bad grammar and is also a programmer

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC No, for US you need to search 'United States', US turns up Australia because "US" is in "Australia"

4

@flawr Especially considering he changed his profile to "This user has retired from this site"

Okay, now that is awkward.

11:03 PM
well zyabin talks to me
for the record, if you see somebody with the username "CrazyPython" who has bad grammar or numbers after the username, it is NOT me.

Well he could make a seperate room for that..
Otherwise this is just creating more noise, as it is irrelevant to everyone else.

i fell so not special right nau
I used to think CrazyPython was a unique and concise username - no sites where I registered was it taken

But it isn't really halloween themed =/

@quartata This still means the last change is now and not 6 months ago.

@DJMcMayhem It's some old shopping website by The North Face.
Now it redirects to a nonexistent domain.

I've probably seen everything on there. Even the really bad stuff.
Still, my all time favorite is Brazil.

I've enjoyed all of the ones that I've seen off that list

@mınxomaτ gonna have to save that for later

It made my heart break that they only gave Groundhog Day 2 stars

I like movies with a good plot.

That one's a classic

@Mego Yeah, but not as good in this genre as many other off that list.
Overall, probably yes.

Every Bill Murray movie sans Garfield is at least 3.5 stars (unless some have slipped my mind)

Anonymous
We don't talk about Garfield

Have you seen The Man from Earth?

No

I can understand why Groundhog Day is a weaker movie in that genre, but still, two stars is hurtful :P

It's actually pretty good when you consider that's it literally 1.5 hours of people talking in one room.
It's free on YT btw:

1 star for The Truman Show? Them's fighting words

The Cabin in the Woods might belong on that list

@Mego I also strongly disagree with some of the ratings. They seem to really like bashing popular movies. Eh, I just watched a random movie of that list every other day without looking at the rating.

Still not seen that one. Is it good?

11:45 PM
It's OK imo.

On of my favorite "mindfuck" movies (which is totally my favorite genre) is "the prestige"
Inception too, obviously

The Prestige is one of my favorite movies of all time

Inception is full of inconsistencies and general plot holes. But I did enjoy the cinematography and overall idea.

Magic, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and written by Christopher Nolan. It checks all the boxes.

Oh, and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla

11:47 PM
@mınxomaτ For example? Not that I disagree, but I'm curious which points you mean

@DJMcMayhem I thoroughly enjoyed The Cabin in the Woods. I thought it was a horror movie, so I went in expecting not to enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it wasn't a horror movie.

@DJMcMayhem That would be a lengthy talk. And other people already did better essays on this than I ever could. Maybe another time.

2.5 stars on The Prestige :(

@Mego That's funny, cause I've heard many of my friends say it's just absolutely terrifying. Then again, I don't have a lot of friends who like (or can even stand) horror

Which reminds be, I thought "shutter island" was fantastic. Not really horror, more of a thriller

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ Works for me. What is your country?

@DJMcMayhem Speaking of DiCaprio, Islands and thrillers: I also recommend the The Beach. More of a psycho-drama, but neat nonetheless.
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ Interesting.

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ -1. Unrelated to Maxwell's

@DJMcMayhem It looks like a horror movie at the start, but then you realize it's a bit different.

11:54 PM
@mınxomaτ well, I've liked every DiCaprio-psycho-island-thriller I've seen so far, so sounds good to me, haha. I'll add it to my list

There's a difference between changing one's username to avoid referencing copyrighted content where the creator has explicitly said they don't want it commercialized, and changing one's username to something untypable on most keyboards for no real reason other than to be "unique".

Thank you penguin :)

@Mego Shortest redirect, 🍌 has 4 UTF-8 bytes

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ I did not expect the banana emoji to work as a Wikipedia page link :P
