5:00 AM
Why thank you. I like to think of myself as the resident @Dennis expert.

Lol.
That little diamond always means moderator right?

Yes

This one does: ♦ All other diamonds are counterfeit.

Though in some cases Stack Exchange employees also have diamonds

@Quill ...but how else would you search for LaTeX?

5:06 AM
@El'endiaStarman Bing

@AlexA. I think it's all cases.

It isn't, I asked

Oh? What're the exceptions?

When you don't need those kind of privileges.

Or is it that some employees don't have diamonds, and those that do have them everywhere?
I interpreted your statement as though some SE employees didn't have diamonds in some places.

5:07 AM
Some SE employees have no diamonds at all
like David Robinson the data scientist

Gotcha.

CMs and Q&A devs get them
All I know is that they're awarded as needed, so if you don't need a diamond on some site as an employee then you don't get one

I really wish there was a "Disable my PPCG account for the next 6 hours" button so I could actually get work done.
4

LOL
I have a suggestion. There is a magical button, its called logout, it lets you get your work done.
2

@AshwinGupta Problem is there's a "Login" button
2

5:10 AM
Okay got me there.

(Note: no, there is not a star troll. Those stars were mine. :P )

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ That thing is the worst.

I don't even bother logging in to SO until I have finished my HW because after I get started going back to anything that resembles work is boring.

I usually get bored and end up in here anyway, even when I should be doing work.

Hey this is off topic: but considering that we are never on topic anyways, should I learn c# or c++. For windows desktop applications and games. (Just for fun)

5:12 AM
@AshwinGupta Everyone I know uses Java. So I guess use Java

I'm currently sorta inclined towards c# since the syntax is a lot more like Java's which I am familiar with.
I already know the basics of Java(mostly)
I wanted to learn a "c' language for windows specific stuff.

High tech chart showing my frustrations

LOL
I can't believe you wasted time in making that.

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ That "horizontal" axis really bothers me.

Well I am gonna give him the benefit of the doubt in guessing he used windows paint or something without a line tool.

5:16 AM
You could've used the straight line tool!

@El'endiaStarman I tried but my mouse is out of battery so I can't make it straight
@El'endiaStarman what straight line tool

What software did you use downgoat?

@AshwinGupta ms paint

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Are you in college? Or high-school, or middle-school?

5:18 AM
fixed it

There you go...
that shows more effort.

@El'endiaStarman Straight line drawing skills also decrease as a function of time

@AshwinGupta yes

Except the connection between the two lines is bad.
B-

haha

5:18 AM
At best.
More like a C++
(See what I did there?)

Yes, I C what you did there.

Yeah for C puns.

There's a veritable C of them...

I need glasses because I can't C#.

Oh that's the java joke.
Why do java devs wear glasses?
Because they can't c#.

5:20 AM
rofl

See how context made that one funnier.
@TanMath sarcasm I hope?

HAH. (Though the more likely explanation is that they need to use the JVM rather than .NET for whatever reason)

no...it is seriously funny...
hello BTW!

well thanks, I stole it off the internet.
Hello.

not anymore funny... :P
you stole it!

5:21 AM
Yup

There
now it's all perfect

Ahaha!

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Beautiful. Flawless. Except for two moles.

A-, because lack of creativity in like width, and font.

@AshwinGupta So should I use Comic Sans :p

5:22 AM
Oh darn its so small.

@El'endiaStarman you don't

Yeah
@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Or wingdings preferably.

TanMathPython 2, 216 210 196 175 bytes Here is some slightly golfed code that I will golf further when I get time. It uses string analysis. i=input().split(".") golfing help!

Someone should make a fixed-width version of Comic Sans for the sole purpose of writing DogeScript and LOLCODE.

@TanMath that's pretty good.
Id help you but I am probably 10x worse at python then you (at least.)

5:25 AM
@AlexA. someone has... I've seen it tweeted before. I just have to find it....
found it:

codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/69734/47680 See how big my answer is compared to everyone else.

@AshwinGupta i can see...

no offense, but your python 3 answer for eenie miny mini moe is not really actual python....did you test it?
because print() is meaningless without an argument!

What do you mean not really actual python?
Works on mines]
It just prints a blank line.

5:27 AM
not needed then...
why do you need a blank line????

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ i actually like this ;-;

Well its not exactly a blank line that I need
its a new line
Its so I can sepearte
I can't explain it just read the challenge.

oh i see...

Yeah.
Btw image above shows what empty print() does
Might be a new thing in python3?

see, print() is new in python 3...
before it was like print "your string here"

5:30 AM
In Python 2 you can get it with from __future__ import print_function or something like that.

Oh okay

or print #something here...number, list, anything!

You know I thought id give MS edge a fair shot since I just updated to W10 and I always hated explorer, but I still hate it.

@AlexA. who would use that??

print() does work in Python 2, it just doesn't do the same thing.

5:31 AM
@AshwinGupta lol

Its speed is about as fast as chrome but other then that in terms of functionality its pretty crap.

@AlexA. what does it do?

You can't even open an image in a new darn tab.

print an empty tuple or something?

Yes

5:31 AM
I found it.

well that is a different story...

Q: What is your best programmer joke?

hmasonWhen I teach introductory computer science courses, I like to lighten the mood with some humor. Having a sense of fun about the material makes it less frustrating and more memorable, and it's even motivating if the joke requires some technical understanding to 'get it'! I'll start off with a cou...

@TanMath Python 3's print() function has arguments you can pass to it for convenience that aren't available in Python 2's print statement, hence the import.

I love this post.
Literally can't stop laughing on some of these jokes.
Okay bye everyone!
Good luck doing your work @Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ

@AshwinGupta oh yeah, I should probably leave so I can get it done, bye

5:36 AM
@AshwinGupta you should probably do print(w[x]+"\n") and remove the lone print()
i am not sure if it works...it should!

how is this relevant?
it is math. so it is on-topic...
you see, this is an off-topic chatroom!

> Dr. Cooper's computer reported the prime in GIMPS on September 17, 2015 but it remained unnoticed until routine maintenance data-mined it. The official discovery date is the day a human took note of the result. This is in keeping with tradition as M4253 is considered never to have been the largest known prime number because Hurwitz in 1961 read his computer printout backwards and saw M4423 was prime seconds before seeing that M4253 was also prime.
This tradition quite amuses me.

[blink] :O

TanMathPython 2, 154 bytes i=input() s="Eeny meeny miny moe Catch a tiger by the toe If he hollers let him go Eeny meeny miny MOE!".split() for j in range(i):print ' '.join(s[j::i]) This uses the trick that [0::n] prints the nth element of the list. Try it here

Neat little trick I found out that I used!

I outgolfed jimmy23013. o_O I don't think that had happened before...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You outgolfing anyone doesn't surprise me.
You're a meme for a reason, you know.

Jimmy has proven more than once that he can outgolf me by a large margin. Meme or not.
This time, I saved 25% over his approach, so I'm quite happy.

6:30 AM
Granted, he's a meme too, but for a different reason.

I think this is first time I've successfully used s on a mixed list of ints and strings:

Do we have a "Fibonacci series" catalogue here?
It looks we have a "Fibonacci series" challenge, but not catalogue. Would it not be a duplicate of the challenge if a catalogue would be posted?

@zyabin101 There's 100+ answers actually, it would be a mess to lose everything. Maybe turn the old one into a catalog (after asking the OP)

9:40 AM
OP is a catalogue pro.

@zyabin101 @Katenkyo Martin's had plans to do so since Chris gave the thumbs up: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/7224/…

@Sp3000 So let's wait the rework then :)

It's funny how my fibonacci sequence is good untill the 91st term, but conitnue until the 347th without exiting because overflows keep it alive ^^

Anyone here ever used OrderPP? It's a pretty sick collection of macros that enables you to solve complex tasks in the preprocessor phase using a (semi-)functional syntax in C: 99 Bottles example

11:07 AM
anyone aware of the protex problem $x = b^p$
find max value of p given x?

i imagine b∈ℕ ?

11:23 AM
$b >=1 \space and \space b \space \epsilon \space N$

11:44 AM
@deostroll It doesn't work.

E.g Say x = 17, prime number...in this case p = 1
x = 25, max value of p = 2, since $5^2 = 25$
x = 1073741824, p = 30, since $2^{30} = 1073741824$

@Sherlock9 Are we there yet?

2:47 PM
@mınxomaτ With the semimagic squares? I don't have a surefire method yet. Let me get back to it

@El'endiaStarman Dr. Cooper? Like in big-bang theory? I love that show.

I finally downloaded Mathemagica! \o/

@Seeq How'd you do it? You may also check out Mathics.

3:43 PM
@Sherlock9 The hardest part is enforcing uniqueness, but I think that could be solved just by deciding on a pattern for the order of each row/column. If a pattern can be found that works for all n, that is taken care of. My thinking is that a circulant matrix with 1..n in order in each row will always be a magic square, and so the pairwise order relationship that describes could always work.
I haven't proven or tested that theory, of course

Also there has to be a real name for this. Some edited that "semimagic square" term into the challenge, but imo it doesn't really fit.

Wow. My office suddenly got really serious. Someone (or perhaps multiple people) are having trouble hitting the inside of the toilet when they pee. Last year, we were all politely asked to be careful and to clean up after ourselves. Just now we were asked to immediately report any fluid on the floor, so that they can check the cameras to see who preceded us, because the problem has not gone away.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose

wow
weirdest of policies happen at your workplace

Hopefully it gets resolved. Next step is a full time monitoring system.

Apparently they have called a plumber four times, and every single time the plumber says that there is no leak

3:57 PM
@quartata Oops....
Sorry.

or a personal escort inside the toilet

Next time I will genocide something else.

From an outsider's perspective, Rainbolt, that's hilarious.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Cool.

I feel sorry for you, but that's funny.

3:58 PM
^
I feel bad for the offenders....

I don't. How hard is it to hit a toilet?

I appreciate the sentiment. Next time I really need to go, if I see fluid on the floor, I have to walk to the other end of the building.
It's going to be tough

Okay.
We will remember your plight everytime we use the bathroom.

@Rainbolt ...

@quartata recommended monster to genocide?
For a monk.

4:00 PM
(Not so) simple solution: Get yourself a colostomy bag. No more bathroom visits.

lol

@RikerW I think this may be a situation where "... and one for my homies ..." is inappropriate, though.

@RikerW what's your race?

Human.

Looks like a cat to me.

4:02 PM
wat?

@quartata To the bathroom, we presume
3

Why would I genocide cats?

No, I mean your race is cat. Judging from the avatar.

Oh, okay.

Why would you genocide humans?

4:02 PM
@RikerW Probably liches (L).

No, but I got 3.
@Geobits BC FREE STUFF FROM SHOP!!! :P
Plus stupidity.

Mind flayers are another one but you might want them as a pet, dunno.

A pet mind flayer?

Yes.

How do you tame stuff?

4:03 PM
Spellz

@quartata Well, they are pretty OP sometimes.

All this talk of genocide lately...

@RikerW Pet mind flayers are pretty common pets for mid game

Sorry, I am insane and trying to destroy the planet.
@quartata What about end-game?
Baby orange dragons?

They're still useful end-game but they can be annoying while fighting the Wizard of Yendor

4:04 PM
@quartata How so?

wake him up

I am coming back into this conversation with no context, so "genocide" what now?

@Sherlock9 nethack

In nethack, you can almost completely eliminate a monster race from the game.

Remind me, what's nethack about?

4:06 PM
@quartata was Ninja'd by @RikerW

@RikerW You CAN eliminate them without a scroll of genocide too (120 monsters born = extinct)

@Sherlock9 Think any other game, but worse.

@zyabin101 I saw that Riker was ninja'd by quartata

@Sherlock9 Think the world's most complicated rogue-like

No one should go on a genocide route. A pacifist route is much better.

4:09 PM
@Ampora this isn't undertale

Undertale teaches us many lessons about life as a whole, that being one of them.

Pacifist nethack is possible but hard as shit
Foodless is easier
and that's saying a lot
For the record, pacifist usually involves letting your pet kill enemies for you so it isn't very pacifist anyways
actually furthermore I believe scrolls of genocide can be used without interrupting pacifist conduct
So you can genocide and still be a pacifist

I did the pacifist run in Undertale but the character in my profile pic wanted to commit genocide so... :P

my friend tried because she's a bad person but she gave up against (i don't have to end this sentence you can figure it out)

papyrus?
I don't know why a lot of people say that's where they give up
I didn't find it that mushy gushy but then again maybe I'm just a terrible person
I personally found undyne a lot more sad

4:23 PM
@Ampora how about a little extra rep for us?

@RikerW Undertale is quasi-turn-based Japanese RPG. It's most notable for being "the game where you don't have to kill anyone."

Okay.

@TimmyD That pun... it Hurt.

Undertale (also stylized as UnderTale or UNDERTALE) is a roleplaying video game developed and published by indie developer tobyfox. The game was written, designed, and composed for by creator Toby Fox, with additional artwork by Temmie Chang, and was released for Microsoft Windows and OS X on 15 September 2015. In Undertale, the player controls a human child as they navigate the fictional Underground: a large, secluded region underneath the surface of the Earth. The inhabitants of the Underground are called "monsters", a diverse and intelligent group who have been banished from the surface following...
The Wikipedia article for Undertale is actually surprisingly good which is unusual

@Geobits Hey, around here, Every Day Is Exactly the Same.

Wow.

4:45 PM
@TimmyD That feels Closer to the truth, but I get the feeling it's still just a Terrible Lie.

Hey, I know that song from accidentally googling nin on my way to the here (the ninteenth byte)!
:P

In addition to being a game where you don't have to kill anyone, it is a game best played without spoilers. Which sucks for me, because I still haven't finished it and I know 70% of the story by now from seeing random stuff on the Internet

Okay.
Should I play it?

Yep

How much $?

4:47 PM
I still enjoyed it with spoilers.
@RikerW $10

Okay.
ANd @quartata it was more free stuff than shopkeepers are annoying.

@RikerW That's what pets are for
But OK

Oh, I do.
I wanted more free stuff after my pet stole a polymorph control ring

@quartata Thanks for that reassurance. I have enjoyed it as well, so far. I will continue it when I have finished answers to the moon phase challenge and the semimagic square problem

I actually found the genocide scroll from my old grave.
I thought they become cursed?

4:49 PM
@RikerW They can not always
Keep it anyways
cursed genocide scrolls are actually very useful

Welp, too late.
I used it and killed myself.

??
Oh you used it :P

No, I used the blessed one and it is gone, though I found my 2 old graves.
