Funny story - when I was a kid and we were going to eat Tex-mex, Dad would put on his goofy dad face say we were going to eat "Nacho-dildo food". One day, we had company and decided to go eat, and I said "Let's get nacho-dildo food!" That was when I got the talk about not repeating everything Dad says.

And I just noticed it is not the same as:
(No plane crash, promised.)

I didn't listen, and later on that same year we were walking the track at my highschool. I was about to enter 3rd grade literally the next week, and the principal of the 3rd-5th grades was also walking. I called her a "precious fatso". This led to me getting spanked and my parents becoming close friends with the principal.

Funny, there was a widespread rumor some years back about Abba dying in a plane crash.

So many flags popping up
From different rooms too...

It looks like someone's going through the h Bar flagging any "bad words" IMO.
I've only seen flags from there in the last few minutes.

7:06 PM
I just got one from Mos Eisley a few minutes ago
But yea, they seem to all be h bar now

Chat flags are weird. Well over 90% I see seem like they were just flagged for profanity, regardless of context or the room's usual tolerance for it.

What flags are you talking about?

The weirdest thing about chat is the huge difference between rooms
There are some constantly active rooms like this
Some constantly inactive
Some with only on topic chatting

And some with a statistically insignificant amount of on-topic chat...

I need a good name for a class that is a Version but with no Revision (a Version in C# is a Major.Minor.Build.Revision). RevisionlessVersion seems ugly. BuildVersion seems ugly too.

7:19 PM
How about SubVersion? :P

PartialVersion seems alright
Thanks room!

More of my problems are solved by writing questions on StackOverflow than by posting them. One of the very last steps is "Come up with a spiffy title." which inevitably helps the dupe-finder find a duplicate.

Yep.

7:34 PM
@Geobits I dare you to retag it
Meh a dare means nothing over the wire

1 hour later…
8:41 PM
@Rainbolt DieVersion

I don't get it, but I don't get a lot of things

It sounds like "diversion", idk
How about UnVersion?
Or "no vision" = BlindVersion

Q: Temporary files and code golf

DennisIn shell scripts, one can oftentimes save a few bytes by creating temporary files instead of storing information in variables. Given that the lion share of the work is usually done by invoking external programs, this is not only the golfiest, but the most natural choice. For example, instead of ...

Hey @AndersKaseorg

One sec, comprehending your comment

?

Alright, you're right. I have bad eyes. @AndersKaseorg
I tricked myself with the ! candle
Sorry! ^_^
@quartata (Moved from a discussion in the comments)

10:44 PM
Oh.

XD It's hard to understand hi for me, is all :P

Oh hey I totally forgot about this

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

quartataChain of Conspiracy Thanks to Calvin's Hobbies for the idea! This challenge will never end. That's a good start right? So essentially the idea behind this challenge is that I will post an obfuscated piece of code that outputs "Hello World!". If you figure out the language (for sure), you will ...

Cool. Can you also clarify how multiple percentage bonuses accumulate? (Is there a general rule for this?) For example, do we calculate 100 bytes - 10% - 10% = 80 bytes or 100 bytes · 90% · 90% = 81 bytes?

Hmm I don't remember what was wrong with this...

(The former being the naïve incorrect way that most people will do without thinking, and the latter being the mathematically correct way.)

10:48 PM
@AndersKaseorg In your example, I would calculate it as a cumulative subtraction; that is, the correct way. (100 - 10%) - 10% => 90 - 10% => 81. If you use the fire emoji, you get a -15 byte deduction before the percents are calculated.

Okay, thanks. The existing answer did it incorrectly, then.

@AndersKaseorg Really? I didn't verify. Thank you for the thought you put into this! It makes for a better-formed challenge ^_^

(I deleted my addressed comments to unclutter the discussion, in case you want to delete your replies.)

@AndersKaseorg Great idea, will do.

11:04 PM
Looking at your edits again…the correct calculation is 15 - (6 unlit) = 9. The one unlit candle does not enter into the calculation.
er, the one lit candle does not enter into the calculation.

@AndersKaseorg Ah, thanks. (You can press "up" on the chat bar to edit a recent comment)

@AlexA. Can you (or some other mod) unfreeze chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/26380/… ?
@Doorknob ^
(I know I keep asking this..)

@Calvin'sHobbies I don't think any mod's are on.

Pings will fetch them

11:19 PM
Oh, cool!
*proceeds to ping every person to enter this chat room*

@Calvin'sHobbies Done.

Wait, there's a PPCG Minecraft server?
Since when?

@Doorknob Thanks!

@quartata Since a few months ago. I run it.

11:27 PM
Oh neat.

And the chat is piped here: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/26380/… (when I have it set up at least)

I like that you named the bot Geoborts.

Oh, I only did that yesterday. It's usually called Chat Relay :P

Oh. Still funny though.

11:40 PM
@feersum Maybe you can call it "foiling"? (Referring to FOIL; polynomial multiplication.)

Fᴇᴇᴅʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴏɴ ᴛʜɪs? :3

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Great, but as written so far only Sacred Javascript would be allowed in future challenges
Also oh god the spaces

@Sp3000 Why would that be? (space f***!)

Because you don't have an interpreter for any of the other modes

It's a multi-purpose encoder. It just converts every character into its ASCII code into ternary, replacing 0 with <space>, 1 with (, and 2 with ). So the interpreter applies to any language. @Sp3000

11:51 PM
Hmm

@AlexA. You've been removed for inactivity in Minecraft fyi (chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/24554846#24554846)

So Sacred can be quite meta. The Sacred Sacred code for Hello world is this (too big for chat message)
(Every 5 characters compiles to a single character.)

Not if it's multiline:
 (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () ((() ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () ((() ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () ((() ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () ((() ((() ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( ( () (((( (((

Oh. Huh! How'd you do that?

Hit shift enter or paste a newline into the chat box.

Then there's no length limit.

And the "fixed font" button shows up.
For stuff
Like this

11:58 PM
Alternatively, Ctrl+K

Sacred Sacred Sacred Hello World, then!
 ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (((( (((( (((( ((() ( () (((( ( () (((( ((() ( () (((( (((( (((( (((( ( () (

((()()())(()())((()())((()()())(()()()()))((()(())(())())((()(()))((()()(()))(()()())((())()()()()()()()()()()
()()()))((()()(()))((())()()()()()())((())()()()()()))(()()()())))))((()(()))((()())((())()()())((())()()()))(

:D
