:~)!

are you ever going to fix your nose?

Nose is perpetual

No~e

@flawr Ha! I like Remi Gaillard's videos! My favorite is the astronaut one:

@flawr awww.. the credits!

@PhiNotPi That prints two "l"s to the console

I posted mine to sandbox

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

sweerpotatoBackground You and some other programmers have been hired by the local sausage guys in Munich, Germany. The sausage guys provide Oktoberfest with all the sausages the giant Volksfest needs. You manage to overhear your boss speaking to the other employees about why you and the others were hired w...

Perhaps it's too easy

I thought there was something similar with candy instead of sausage before, but i might be thinking about the candy sorting one instead.

Oh, I forgot to mention, you can't have two of the same Act @PhiNotPi

@Geobits there's a duplicate? D:

Not sure. I thought there was, but I can't find it if there is.

3:46 PM
:/
perhaps a search of 'sausage' and 'oktoberfest' wasn't enough

Definitely not...

Duplicates are based on task, not theme :P

Duplicates aren't determined by similarity in objects. They're determined by similarity between what the challenge is asking
Dang, beat me to it

yes

Also, I don't see how it's related to Human World at all ;)

3:48 PM
:~)!

I think you should try to rephrase what you got from Wikipedia (and shorten it)

Bloating the challenge too much?

Yeah
And no one is going to read those long descriptions anyway (they're filled with superfluous information)

Maybe I'll put it at the end of the challenge
Sausage trivia

What's the point of facts like this:
> Kabanosy are often seasoned only with pepper. Unlike other meats, these sausages are typically eaten alone as an appetiser and, except when kosher, often served with cheese.
Or this:
> It also has a history as soldier's food because it keeps without refrigeration and comes in single-meal portions.

3:51 PM
Fun facts I guess
I may have diverging interests :D
You make a valid point though

No offense to sausage-lovers (or yourself), but who cares..?

Is anyone interested in helping this guy out? I'm just not sure what to say at this point, and I'm going to be impolite if I continue.

I just can't figure out what he actually wants. It's gone through several tags now, and there's no sort of scoring mentioned in the spec.

Unless he supplies us with 20,000 test cases, the challenge is void
I'm voting to close as unclear

4:05 PM
@ZachGates is it better now?

@sweerpotato Yes

I think so too

You might want to add their shortname in parentheses, though

Oh, yeah! :~)!

> Prinskorv (P)
Like that
or something

4:07 PM
Yeah
Good input
Does anything else stand out as ambiguous?

Not that I see

Should I post it?

It's up to you
It's only been in the Sandbox for 43 minutes though

Yeah, true that
I'll make dinner and then I'll see if I have any input

4:28 PM
chill dude.
let it hang in there for a day or two

4:43 PM
Well this app sounds like a really really terrible idea...
> Anyone who has access to someone's cellphone number can start a new profile for them on the site.
^ Not the only reason this is a bad idea, but what the hell? Why would you encourage people to post other people's private information?

I love the idea. I had wanted a centralized place where you can rate drivers and post your complaints and praise. There will never be a good way to implement such things though. Until the robots take over and implant chips in all of us

Random drivers on the road?
I'm not sure what function that would really serve.

4:59 PM
Uber is basically doing this now with their rating system. I thought of the idea when a driver did something nice and I wanted a way to acknowledge the person.

uber is not doing the same thing
uber is doing a basic rating system, like any other rating system - u use the product, u rate it

The product being a person. You interact with people every day and use their services. Holding a conversation is a service is it not?

then you should be able to rate the person on your device and there should be a record of you using the product

The main difference is that if you are an Uber driver, I assume you agree to this from the start.

in that sense, if u have this app installed, you also agree to be random-reviewed

5:05 PM
@Optimizer No, that's the thing. You don't have to have it installed at all. Anyone with your cell phone number can do it.

oh!
lol

And there is apparently no way at all to opt out.

Who cares if there is an app or not? People have the right to gossip about others behind their back.

or behind their graves
for people like Sven!

People also have the right to privacy, no? This isn't people gossiping among friends, it's completely public.

5:07 PM
its like tagging a person in an fb post and posting shit about that person.

I guess I don't understand the difference.

with a power to override the privacy setting of auto tagging

The difference is that this seems to be the app's sole purpose.
At least facebook or twitter (in theory, at least ;) have other uses.
If it was opt in, I wouldn't be really concerned. I'd still think it's odd, but not wrong.

The idea of privacy is all messed up in my mind with all this social media nonsense.

Q: Pseudorandom Cellular Automaton

ZgarbIntroduction In this challenge, we will simulate a certain probabilistic cellular automaton using very bad pseudorandom numbers. The cellular automaton is defined on binary strings by the following local rule. Suppose that the left neighbor of a cell and the cell itself have states a and b. If...

5:15 PM
^ i guessed the poster from first few lines of the post itself'

@ZachGates It appears that there's two of the same Act in your current Hello World example.

without looking at image

The first l in Hello and the l in World.

@Geobits Phishing

The funniest thing about this is that the founders of Peeple don't appear to take criticism well. It seems they've been asking facebook for a way to minimize/remove negative comments on their page, and think opinion columnists shouldn't judge them without giving them a chance to explain first.
So I can only assume they won't be impressed with the ratings they get on their own system.

5:28 PM
@PhiNotPi Pull the repo. I added a DUP_TOP function, too.

I was referring to the Hello World you posted on PPCG

@Geobits So many hypocrites in the news lately. Some politician against marijuana was caught with it, this other religious/family-man politician got caught cheating on his wife.

@PhiNotPi Oh, I thought I deleted that

Also, ow does this work?
Intermission

# Push 'l' to console.
Symphony No. 22
Symphony in D major
Symphony No. 20
Oboe Concerto in C major

Intermission

# Duplicate TOS.
Cut Time
I thought you said outputting pops from the stack
So there's nothing to duplicate
Does it re-run the previous act?

I changed it. Now it's an actual stack

5:34 PM
previously, it was just a stack snippet?

It was just a snack.

Snack stippet

Does Cut Time output anything? I don't see an Oboe Concerto

@AlexA. How is that evolution?

5:37 PM
@PhiNotPi Cut Time duplicates the last element pushed to the stack (l).

@Optimizer Who said anything about evolution?

its like raichu transformed to pichu

Where is that l outputted?

That analogy :D

5:38 PM
Its like mewtwo transformed to psyduck

@flawr Is this more airplane crashes?

@AlexA. probably
just with additional background score
Did we flag something again?

Nah, it's just the regular blues trickling in, no blue flood.

when u write a good tweet and you wait for the favs but they don't come http://t.co/RJ4LAD8RNn

5:40 PM
I read it as "Obese concert"

@PhiNotPi The Act before Cut Time

@Optimizer Country music

country people are typically fit

How do you output both ls in that one act?

specially with all that cardio in the songs

5:42 PM
lolwut

It pushes an l to the stack, and duplicates it. @PhiNotPi

rodeo

The way I read it, it pushes l, outputs it, then duplicates something (the l is not on the stack because it was popped) but the duplicate is never outputted anywhere.

Oh, it outputs at the very end now.
Oboe Concerto in C major ends an Act, which pushes the item to the stack as a character from the integer.

@ZachGates You should alter the specs of your programming language somewhat: The program should consist of a youtube playlist with all the corresponding concertos. For running the program the playlist must be played (in real time).

5:47 PM
^ excellent idea

@flawr Haha, take a whole day to run helloworld.sym

Wouldn't that be awesome? Always good music when debugging=)

If you implement multithreading, use YouTube doubler.

Okay, that's a major change to how it prints.

majar

5:47 PM
The above image (first Act) is essentially stack.append(chr((22 * 4) + 20)). @PhiNotPi
And then Cut Time is stack[-1:] = [stack[-1], stack[-]1]

(I'm on my phone)

Em
Gee

Em = E-minor, but what is Gee?

Geese

5:52 PM
@flawr omg, are you serious? :p

Anybody remember when my avatar was a goose? That was a dark time.

Gee is how you make horses go faster (if they're trained the usual way).

It's also the 7th letter in the English alphabet.
And the next letter is "whiz!".

I thought whiz came after cheez.

jeez, guys

5:58 PM
No I am not Sirius. I am not even Siri.

What about Sir?

¡Si! That would be acceptable.

What about Shirley?

Surely that's acceptable.

@flawr :)

6:04 PM
@flawr oh, you're just being sillyous

Shore!

I'll write you then.
I imagine everyone sitting on their desk trying to come up with a particularly silly witty punny thing to answer.

Miley Cyrus

It can't be someone from faceboo, there are only likes.

Geobits

@Geobits so basically all that matters is what their app say about them?

Yep, it's the co-founder of Peeple.

Q: A real sausage fest

sweerpotatoSince the first weekend of October is drawing near, let's have our own Oktoberfest! Background You and some other programmers have been hired by the local sausage guys in Munich, Germany. o.o
That title made me do a double-take

I hope that's about actual sausages

What is a double-take?

Really?

6:19 PM
taketake
It's a mushroom.

better than shiitake?

Even better the hetake

@MartinBüttner you're WAY too fast at this :|

He gave you a full ten minutes before answering ;)

@sweerpotato I only had to hit 37 keys, how long can it take? :P

6:22 PM
.. :D

no point, I was too late

Since they're all top aligned and all use different top chars, all it seems you need to do is count occurrences of certain characters on the first line.

..yep :~)!
Well, you COULD solve it that way

@flawr Because no one else answered your question...here's a great example:

I guess that assumes all inputs are well-formed.

6:24 PM

That's much swoopier than my usual double take, but yea.

@El'endiaStarman Thanks, but what about triple-takes then?

This is more typical of a double-take:

I think triple takes are best reserved for cartoon characters, so the eyes can actually pop out.

6:26 PM
Triple-take

I dunno how many takes this one is...

Next step quadruple-takes?

Or can we factor those into (double-take)^2?

The ridiculousness of takes grows at approx O(n!).

6:27 PM
So a duodecuple-take would be the same as (double-take)^2 * (triple-take)
Well, give-or-take.

give-or-triple-take

> I haven't tested it yet, but it should work.
:/

That confidence

in JavaScript... there is no excuse for not testing JavaScript before answering o.O
oh, it looks like he tested an ES5 version, and then converted it to ES6 without testing
I guess that's okay if you're using... Internet Explorer... or something...

6:32 PM
That's at least a bit of excuse if you're on mobile.

@MartinBüttner Chrome doesn't support most golfing features of ES6, neither does Opera/Edge/Safari

@flawr I love Norwegian metal

WTF

@Optimizer I didn't see any golfing feature except arrow functions.

6:35 PM
@MartinBüttner i dunno, you didn't link. Still since arrow functions are only supported on Firefox .. its not really that easy to test ..

@Optimizer Arrow functions are supported in Chrome (have been for a few weeks)

@sweerpotato They do have a ton of great bands=)

@sweerpotato @MartinBüttner pastebin.com/18KV1Nwn

@MartinBüttner ah, they landed already ? I use dev, so I had them since long

(the umlaut characters were lost in encoding, I tried to restore them with google's help)

6:40 PM
@sweerpotato Trollfest are the best=)

@aditsu is that TRANSCRIPT? :D

haha, looks like it could be :) but it's an actual transcript from a mud
(edited a little to remove irrelevant stuff)

I'll be back in a bit

Did I call it?

It's about once a week this year, just for schools. Not counting others :(

7:31 PM
@Geobits exactly..
sorry for multi-pings

Thursday night is shooting night?

@Optimizer Countries with sensible gun control laws right now: "Go do whatever. You're fine."

HuffPo has a calendar. I don't like them much, but I assume these are verifiable with other sources:

Jesus, 45??

who are the shooters here? mostly the students?

7:34 PM
mass shooting in other countries -> ban guns
mass shooting in the US -> need more guns in more places

mass shooting in the US -> ban black people

That would be funny if there wasn't some truth to it.

I am not trying to be funny this time

I know

now I feel like the porn ban here was so much more sensible...

7:37 PM
Did it stop masturbation or something?

nah. they were linking it with increased sexual violence
although it was reverted back soon enough.

Ah. Yea, I can't imagine it would be a good fix for that.

Q: Math in manhattan

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'BʀɪᴇɴI define the following operators: Manhattan Addition a +M b, for single-digit numbers, is the result of concatenating b onto a. So, a +M b = 10a + b. Lets ban numbers.

7:46 PM
Back

@flawr But how will we do math?

@AlexA. Math does not need numbers.

That's a good point.
How will we do applied statistics?

We won't.

7:48 PM
Memphis had the first mass shooting of the year ;-;

Statistics are only for people who want to prove a point.

Probably in Orange Mound

Any point.

@flawr scary how many are unknown

@flawr The majority are most likely gang violence

Thanks to the internet, I do not believe any sentences that start with "Statistics show (...)" or "Scientists found (...)"

@flawr Well there goes my degree and job prospects...

@ZachGates Gang violence does not count?

Where does it say that? (the site is down so I can't see it)

@AlexA. Do not worry, no numbers => no money.

7:53 PM
@sweerpotato I'm very tempted to make a tag and add it to your challenge.

Haha

@AlexA. Just do it!

As a moderator I should set a good example, as much as that pains me.

Why does creating a new tag pain you?
