@Murta ;)
@DavidZ I've also somehow gotten that idea, although I can't claim to really know theoretical physicists...

@halirutan Thanks for the concern. I managed to get help and finished the work on that project.I appreciate your help throughout.

How to get this without the country labels and stuff? `GeoGraphics[{}, GeoRange -> {{-60 - 1, -27 + 1}, {-70 - 1, -40 + 1}},
GeoProjection -> "Equirectangular"]`

3:28 PM
@Rojo You can remove labels, but I don't think you can (trivially) remove borders: GeoGraphics[{}, GeoRange -> {{-60 - 1, -27 + 1}, {-70 - 1, -40 + 1}},
GeoProjection -> "Equirectangular",
GeoBackground -> GeoStyling["StreetMapNoLabels"]]

@Pickett I am ok with borders, thanks!

Q: Can I download the stackexchange app anywhere other than google play?

van abelI try to download the app at the bottom on my XiaoMi 3, which is unfortunately not support Google play (although I can install it, but it seems that it is hard to start, needs to provided a bank card?) so may I ask for providing an outside link to download it?

Can upvotes and downvotes always be changed, or do they 'lock' after some time limit like the accepted answer choice?

5:31 PM
@dionys After a while you cannot change them, unless the post is edited.

@chris thanks a lot for your help today Chris, very kind of you! Cheers man.

Do TransformedRegion basic examples work for some of you? The first would appear to plot only partial rectangle for me, and second gets stuck on RegionPlot in a way that requires killing the kernel! I think these worked on 10.0.0, but not any more on 10.0.1 or Programming Cloud...

9:12 PM
@kirma I get the same on 10.0.0.

@Pickett Cut rectangle and stuck RegionPlot?

@kirma Yes.

@Pickett Interesting. Wonder when it actually did work, as I would expect those plots to originate from a working version... anyway, already sent a bug report.

@kirma It could be that the bug is intermittent. Mathematica V10 has lots of those bugs, which is most noticeable with Dataset. Yesterday I had to restart Mathematica to get DeleteDuplicatesBy to work (possibly just restarting the kernel will do it). Can't restart Mathematica now though.

@Pickett Hmmmmh. Well, I hope it gets fixed eventually, not really that important to me, thankfully.
But now to bed, it's already past midnight here. ->

Has anyone else found DateObject (and perhaps other Objects) to be so slow that they have starting actively avoiding them. DateListPlot also seems to have become very slow (impossibly slow for really long lists, for example, 15 years of daily values). DateListPlot is so slow that I have been forced to stop using it, and use ListPlot combined with FrameTicks to display dates. Is this just me? Is it just that I don't know how to uses these new elements of Mathematica?

@GeorgeWolfe Most of the new stuff in Mathematica is horribly slow and utterly unusable for any serious work. The only practical use for these things is for SW/WRI to make yet another speech/blog about how they managed to take a simple and intuitive concept and successfully abstract it away so that you can now computationally derive "hello world" from cosmic first principles and tweet about it.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that finds this new stuff useless. I couldn't decide whether to dig in and "learn how to use it the right way," or ignore it. Maybe in Mathematica 11...

acl
@rm-rf getting cynical, are we
@halirutan so, actually, what does it do?
@GeorgeWolfe to be serious, I also find much of the new stuff to be more or less useless
this has been happening since v 8 or thereabouts for me

@acl I don't see, read or hear you anymore :)

acl
@halirutan I'll "kick" you too, then
@halirutan wait, I just tried and it asked me whether I really want to kick you out of the room
(I said no but don't relax yet)

@acl hehe.. maybe @rm-rf knows why we as normal users can kick someone.

acl
@halirutan we're room owners. But, actually, what does it do?

10:28 PM
@acl IIRC it just causes the person to be removed from the room, just as if they'd clicked "leave"

acl
@DavidZ I see, thanks. And can they not re-enter immediately?

They cannot, for a few minutes.

A: Impose a re-entry delay on users kicked out of a chat room

balphaThis has been implemented now. The short story is: room owners can kick abusive users, who will then be banned from re-entering the room for a certain time. Of course you want not just the short story but all the dirty details, so here they are: In the user popup that appears when you click on ...

It's called "kick-mute" now for that reason. (There used to be just a "kick" option, which would remove the user from the room but allow them to immediately reenter.)

acl
@DavidZ OK, all's clear now
guess we won't need it here

@DavidZ Hehe.. thanks for digging it up.

No problem, actually it was in the latest moderator newsletter so it was easy to find

"Hellban" is most evil. After that, nobody sees the users posts but himself.

Seeing strange behavior while studying http://goo.gl/id2JNj ... The following seems to reset (i.e., to Clear) the definition of holdAsgts ClearAll[holdAsgts, a, b];
SetAttributes[holdAsgts, HoldAll];
holdAsgts[(set : Set | SetDelayed)[L_, R_]] :=
{L, R}; holdAsgts[a := 42, b];
