it always feels a little odd when people point out how many Javascript libraries/front end technologies there are nowadays, when C++ also has a ludicrously huge number of useful libraries out there and has also had the "how do I choose" problem for ages

12:14 AM
I feel like an idiot for not putting two and two together before - presuming I'm right now, but I think I just figured out who you work for. Maybe. I'm an idiot though, so likely wrong.
@Ixrec would you say the C++ libraries are largely better than the JavaScript ones though? I should imagine so, there's a good variety of good JavaScript libraries, but reems of awful things by people who shouldn't be publishing their work.

I don't think I've evaluated nearly enough of either kind to say for sure

@Ixrec you've used a large number of C++ libraries though, no? A fair number should at least give a representative sample

I wouldn't say a "large" number

Yes! I found the TCP/IP modification I was trying to reference earlier @GlenH7 @durron597 cs.cornell.edu/w8/~ashieh/trickles/trickles-paper/stcp.html

if anything my strategy with C++ libraries in the past was to work with as few as possible so I could spend at least a little time actually writing real code instead of learning other people's APIs

12:17 AM
@JimmyHoffa you don't csh vim?

I knew I wasn't making shit up. Just out of the blue remembered the name of it, trickles. Nagling is another
@durron597 I cmd emacs (in spaaaace!) thankyou very much!

but my suspicion is that for every Javascript library that's utterly horrible but technically still works, there's also a C++ library that should be useful but is such a nightmare to build it's just not worth it
Sturgeon's Law, etc

@JimmyHoffa just make sure to wear your enemacsronment suit in spaaaaace

nice
and good night

This is not an appropriate question here because it is opinion-based. You might get help at Programmers. — Ed Cottrell 45 secs ago

Q: What would you do, if you found a very useful improvement to your newly invented product when you are about to release the product?

Raju ChiluvuriAssume your start-up company have built a new useful product for Java software engineers and completed testing. The product satisfied your expectations and about to give it to few beta customers. You would find many possible improvements to the product, when you are testing a first version of a ...

Q: Does lisp macros really useful in typical development?

RengrazThere are lots of delightful opinions about macros in Lisp, but I really cannot find a primer I can use in my every day workflow. I'm web developer, but use emacs for about 10 years. And I want to understand if macros are really useful for everyone, or it is just killer feature for very specific ...

EMP the exam hall. Warn the students in advance that this will happen. If their phones are destroyed, they had notice. Distribute Casio FX991s from a faraday cage picnic basket afterwards, to be returned like 3D glasses after a movie. — J... 2 days ago

@durron597 yay :) that sounds great, nice to have that good of a feeling about it

btw, thank you @Yannis for all those mod closes. Not many people around... and I'm out of close votes too.

@JimmyHoffa probably be nice to have the WYSIWYG GUI parts... I'd also like to keep having the ability to do actual development work, I could easily put a C# IDE on my personal computer but if I start compiling things for work... licensing gets messy (though, I guess I could make my own open source project and then use it at work? lol)

@MichaelT interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a map of Montreal with Up == North.
If I remember correctly, the orange line's arms are aligned with "Montreal North"
... nevermind. apparently I don't remember correctly.

user55340

yeah, I saw that :)
When I first moved to Mtl I lived between the Atwater and Guy Concordia metros. I eventually moved next to the Jean-Talon station and worked just north of the Montmorency station. I kind of miss that city. I did a lot of good reading on that metro :)

Cool maps MichealT

That isn't a game... its a life choice.

you know I got to ask. Been looking everywhere for a solution concerning
ThinApp and windows 10

9:47 PM
Programs that have been visualize using the thinApp into a portable app. Do not work.. and so far all threads on vmware seem that 8.1 only.

does the window say WOW.S4 .cpp something the error window

word for word it says; one sec
ThinApp has encountered an unexpected error. Click Abort to
close the application, Retry to debug, or Continue to ignore the
error. Support info: PID=9968, WowS4.cpp@484

@IMSStudio One of the classic programming projects. Write a DSL for a programmable sign of arbitrary size. And then the "write a viewer for the programmable sign"
