they also had the beanboozled game there... oh... someone is going to have fun being late in the future. I made the suggestion that they open up a box and if you're late you eat one.

@MichaelT "barf" is redundant with "stinky socks"

Q: characteristics of a greedy algorithm?

As123what are the characteristics of a greedy algorithm? I am confused about if this is the correct answer A function that checks whether chosen set of items provide a solution. A function that checks the feasibility of a set. The selection function tells which of the candidates is the most promising....

it seems on-topic, but personally I'd VTC as "unclear" and possibly "too broad" in its current form
all of the phrases he's listing there are too vague to constitute a meaningful question about greediness or any other algorithmic property

I agree it needs work. I guess I misread gnat's comment. He didn't actually say it was offtopic.

that's the downside of using copy-and-paste comments everywhere

Q: When to use single-line if statements?

dotancohenWhen reviewing code, I prefer to read if statements that explicitly demonstrate that a fork in code execution may occur: if ( isFoo(baz) ) { runBar(); } When scanning hundreds of lines of the nonindented version, it is not obvious that a conditional may or may not occur: boom += 1; baz = ...

I voted for a dup initially, then you pointed out that it wasn't a dup and specified it further. If this was earlier, I would have voted as primarily opinion instead. I don't believe it should be reopened, unless that is done to immediately change it to closed as primarily opinion. — MichaelT 2 days ago

user55340
It needs work to make sure it doesn't get opinion answers.

A: When to use single-line if statements?

Dragan BozanovicI always prefer the version with braces. If I don't always use the braces, then I may forget to put them when there is more than one statement in the block. IDEs used by other team members can reformat the code automatically to move the statement to the new line, thus making it much more error ...

The core question in the question is quite problematic:

user55340
> Are there any other "good" uses for single-line if statements? How strictly should the practice be avoided? Note that I am explicitly asking about the lack of an indented line to indicate that a condition may or may not occur, I am not asking about the use of braces. Although I would appreciate all opinions in the comments, answers should address objective reasoning, such as maintainability or extensibility of code.

user55340
That first '?' is too broad and primary opinion. The second '?' is primarily opinion.

A: Reopen question that is not a dupe

MichaelTThe core question to the problem is one that needs work. I see it has been reopened, but the issue of it being primarily opinion has not been addressed or resolved. Are there any other "good" uses for single-line if statements? How strictly should the practice be avoided? Note that I am expl...

Has anyone here worked with a git project hosted in Visual Studio Online TFS?
These guys are using SourceTree to clone the Git repositories, because doing it from Visual Studio takes forever.
In general, VS 2013 looks very foreign to me. I can navigate around just fine, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to check things in or out.

2:42 PM
Hmm, looks like you have to do everything source-control related in the Team Explorer window now.

3:35 PM
could someone leave a comment on this question explaining why it's too broad? I already did so on the guy's other question so I don't want to make it look like I'm attacking him

thanks

@Codebender was just one person suggesting Code Review, and his suggestion was ill-advised this time. Some questions are not suitable on any stack site, because they are not good candidates for the Q&A nature of the stacks. This is one of those. Your question is not a well-contained and specific question as required for SO, it is not a general problem about programming and relevant to all Programmers, and it's not working code needing review. What you need is a teacher's assistant, partner, manual, or friend. — rolfl 50 secs ago
