I just wanted to drop that in here. It's really relevant.

famous last words right there

@ratchetfreak "Well, that didn't work"? Yeah.

Then it... does?

no you put in 80 hour weeks to make it work with ducttape

It depends. You only use duck tape if it moves and shouldn't.

10:09 PM
but my bottle of WD40 is out

user20683
you use epoxy if it moves and it shouldn't and you can't wrap it

I'm still trying to figure out what to do to make it work if my 0s and 1s are dripping out of an ethernet port and clogging the gears.

user20683
@ThomasOwens pipe it to a port

I think it's a hardware problem - the ethernet port is supposed to have a cable connected.
That's my solution.

or kill the process that's leaking

10:31 PM
Well. The train ahead of us hit someone.
That's not good.

@ThomasOwens I bump back into that about once a month or two...
@Ampt Did it hit you?

@JimmyHoffa Nope but it was fatal...

@Ampt :(

stay off the bloody tracks

my wife's dad was a train conductor for like 25 years in Chicago, she says that happens constantly....

10:38 PM
Yeah... more than it should
people try and cross at the last second
I've seen some closer calls than I care to be witness to in the short amount of time I've been taking the train

@ratchetfreak the problem is that a lot of the tracks require you to cross them to get to the track you're boarding on.
there are a lot of center islands between two sets of two tracks, so if your train is going to be on the inner two tracks, you need to be on the island before it arrives
and people being people wait until the last minute to cross to the island

and no tunnel/bridge?

Not trying to justify it, but that's how it happens.
nope
no tunnel/bridge

a crossing nearby to warn them?

10:41 PM
theres an example
yeah theres always a warning
but people will ignore it in hopes of making their train

user20683
Marta doesn't have that problem

they play the "Get to work on time versus getting hit by the train" gamble

user20683
as far as crossing

user20683
all our hits are suicides or attempts to retrieve something you dropped

there should be signs: "if the crossing signals red then a train is coming through at high speeds, stay off the track."

10:44 PM
they have signs
they do voice announcments
they have posters
when has a sign or a poster ever stopped anyone though

you only see those that ignore them

Oh I Agree they do good, but theres always going to be someone who ignores it

user55340
@Ampt Do note, you've got the highest scoring answer in the question now.

I know we almost had one person try and cross way too late and ~500 people all yelling "NO" simultaneously stopped them in their tracks
@MichaelT lol. I'm not even sure it helps

user55340
You need to add it to @psr automatic Math.SE poster... sin(0) = 0. tan(theta) = sin(theta)/cos(theta)

user55340
10:46 PM
post one of those randomly to every new answer tagged trigonometry.

user55340
As long as the hint is a true statement, they seem reluctant to down vote or delete it.

@MichaelT prey on their weakness for facts

@MichaelT that may be the core of Math.SE

@ratchetfreak I love this video in a really morbid am-I-really-ok sort of way

user20683
@enderland There's one with people actually doing the things (sorta)

10:51 PM
plenty of parodies there

Anyone have any background with react.js?
Does it contain any CSS or is it solely used for making editing your dom very fast

user20683
11:10 PM
@Ampt I believe it has CSS

user20683
let me go check that

I didn't think that it did, but I'd be happily wrong
I know that Backbone+React is a common marriage among web devs around here
but I haven't ran into the problem that it solves yet
so I've been holding off

user20683
11:26 PM
Halt and Catch Fire has been renewed for a second season!

user20683
dances

@WorldEngineer Good because it's dramatic, or good because it's a reasonably accurate portrayal? I'm guessing the former.
In other news, did SE just change the font in the chat room? I like it.

user20683
@RobertHarvey It's a little of both actually

user20683
It draws you in but it certainly fits the time (the ability to hand code a bios for instance)

user20683
I suspect you could be more critical of it since you were in your late teens and early twenties when the series takes place

user20683
11:31 PM
while I was a year from being born

@Ampt Have you seen the demo?
@Ampt [rolls eyes]

I did another one pointing out that the derivative of an integral is the original function again but deleted it
didn't want to come off too trolly

user20683
@Ampt Fundamental theorems are not trolling.

@WorldEngineer they're just hints!
@RobertHarvey I actually made that with just Backbone, no react needed

user20683
@Ampt They are truth. Truths are just hints to the nature of reality.

11:38 PM
@RobertHarvey You can pick from a bunch
Yes, one of those is batman.js
