About 1.5h to get all snap fit joints open. This thing is built immensely solid.
The mechanism is simple yet immensely clever design. Entirely encapsulated complete assembly that just sits in the outer shell. Easy to open, and in principle very repairable without tools.
Yeah nerf stuff is amazingly well designed - and remember its pneumatics and plastics and kid's toys.... So there's "high" pressure, low price, exists in a rough-and-tumble environment and MUST NOT fail.
I don't get it: Wednesday was perfect weather, but very few bike commuters on the road, and lots of cars and gridlock. Friday morning: Same weather, still few bikes, but also few cars. Friday evening: Lots of cars and bikes. Also 2 drivers suddenly invaded the bike lane without shoulder-checking in close succession. I could only evade the 2nd one by a millimeter. Had I been on a heavy dutch bike... Usually drivers here are pretty good at shoulder-checks
