I think one of the flags on answers should be "this is a summary of the accepted answer to the existing question that this one duplicates"
And I swear some of them are doing it explicitly: follow the dupe link, read the answer, "put it in their own words" as an answer to the question, giggle when they get upvotes.
well, to a certain extent, if they're going to all that trouble, good luck to 'em
But from the site's perspective, dupes are a pita. Trouble is there's probably a 24-hour window between someone spotting it's a dupe, and five of us voting to close it
Maybe people shoiuld upvote based on originality?
horrible'n'stormy here today. Every time the wind blows I get worried that my outhouse is going to blow down!
@PeteH it was calm and mostly sunny here. A nice change from trying to manhandle sheets of corrugated iron in strong gusty winds :)
@PeteH yeah, the whole SE thing assumes sites are busy or users are sensible. But as with the stupid spam discussion the other day, when it takes hours to even get 3 spam flags, and a day to get 5 close votes, the fact that a question isn't closed don't mean much - if one of the people who normally vote to close is away having a life or something, it can take a long time.
@Mσᶎ yeah. It does irk me sometimes that people who have enough rep to know better get involved with some of these questions. Sometimes the best thing to do is to ignore a question. But then that's just me, I can hardly complain that "not everyone thinks like me"!
@Mσᶎ sorry, went away. Just posted an answer to that guy's Sold Secure question. Funny, I thought that "standard" only existed in the UK, it must have crossed the channel.
Moana And The Moahunters - Black Pearl... all these artists who've had some local pop success and then gone on to make decent music, often in Maori. Dead/Te Kupu is still active, Moana is making music and films...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moana_(singer)
Makes me think I should get fluent in Maori, because I do like the language. And one thing that makes me homesick for NZ is Maori culture and partly just the difference between NZ treatment of Maori and Australian treatment of ... anyone not white, really. Waitangi Day in NZ on the 6th (today!) and there's the usual political b*shit and protests. Not to mention the commemorative signing away of NZ sovereignty with the TPP this week. Protest, eh, pouri ra mo te mana (sad day for sovereignty).
Still, just watched "Despicable Me" and that was quite good.
Never seen that. Well, I might have. Don't remember seeing that.
We are going to go to the cinema to see the Dads' Army film tomorrow. In the nice little arty cinema that I like
Dads' Army is one of my favourites, it will be interesting to see how they've done the film. Difficult to see how it could be better than the series, but they have a decent cast
anyway, I have finished the silly game I was playing and now it's time to go to sleep. To the cheerful sounds of the neighbours out in their backyard drinking and talking. yay.
linkedin needs a "piss off I never heard of this person before" reply to "I want to join your network" emails
Oh I figured out that when @Community edits a question, its to delete an answer or a comment. Its not to rekindle an old question, although that is a side-effect.
