I got 3000 km of a chain and cassette before it was skipping bad under load. Thats a more useful measure to me.

@Criggie well I was losing about 1000 km of chain longevity with a lube with poor ability to remain. I suspect rewaxing with paraffin will give me the longest chain life to date.

I should explore this parrafin thing more. But another 1/3 more distance will save $20, so if it takes longer than an hour I might as well just buy the parts.

@Criggie Opportunity cost theory would agree with your assessment, which is likely why the market never embraced paraffin. I figure if I do 4-5 chains in one go and just rotate, once every two months may not be too bad.

good point too.

Paraffin is so inconvenient to apply that it is useful for very few who need every watt but still wouldn't replace the chain before every race. For other lubes tests do not seem to agree between different methods. That is, however, just a superficial observation from an internet only lit search.

There's somebody over on Travel SE looking to rent a road/touring bike in Kyoto, Japan. Can anyone help them?

Sounds loverly, but its a bit far from me :-)

Sorry, mate, but you're 83 miles closer than me. This one's your responsibility!

Wait. 36 miles. The first one was to Kansai Airport, which is the main international airport for that region but an hour on the train from Kyoto itself.

HAH you geek :)
that's an awesome website

Guilty as charged.
Yeah, it's really useful.
Actually, these days, you can just use the measurement tool on Google Maps (which also uses great circle distance) but GC Map is useful for Stack Exchange because it'll produce an image that you can embed in your post.

@RoboKaren might know. but a lot of those types of questions are hard to deal with

Asking about a rental shop near Kansai airport - that's a toughie and super local. I'd be surprised if it doesn't get closed on travel.se as too particular.

I'm surprised its so cheap to sent th ebike. As per my comment, its almost the same cost to take his bike as to hire one for 2 weeks.
