I get that. Part of the question is whether the makefile should use gcc or gcc-arm****. I'm guessing gcc or g++ without the trailer since it's probably in a native sandbox not a cross-build?
I'll probably just have to try it and see. No biggie. Moving on. It shouldn't have dragged on this long anyway.

@Lucio yeah, if the user protests ok but since it was another question about comparing video cards, I might as well put the 3 most popular ones on the same question. Saves from having a which is better intel vs nvidia, intel vs ati, nvidia vs ati, via vs intel..... Forever youunng!! I want to be forever youung!!
> There is a naming conflict with the node package (Amateur Packet Radio Node Program), and the nodejs binary has been renamed from node to nodejs. You'll need to symlink /usr/bin/node to /usr/bin/nodejs or you could uninstall the Amateur Packet Radio Node Program to avoid that conflict.
Some things to note: 1) Lenses are god - I wonder if we'll be able to add our own lenses 2) The built-in game doesn't probe for resolution and the start-game button is off-screen on the right on nexus7 - ouch 3) Half the features on the product page aren't in the stock image yet - ouch 4) The UI is delicious and it's pretty responsive by comparison to other products - Yes, I just called a UI delicious 5) It gives you pretty naked access to the device - I like 6) There is very little in the way of documentation on the packaging and app-install process for people that aren't using it in conju…
Oh, most of the built-in apps don't do proper rotation detection for screen orientation. That would be at the top of my fix this list.
I used Ubuntu 12.04. I want run automatic a service after login with LightDM. This service not start on boot, not start for after boot, before X is initialized. Plz help me.
I have installed this package, "shutdown-at-night". Now I am trying to run it in terminal but I don't know what to type. Typing shutdown and then pressing tab would not do anything
I mean how would I figure out the terminal command of a package to run it ?
aha, I used sudo apt-cahce show shutdown-at-night and this what they wrote in the description section, "description-en: System to shut down clients at night, and wake them in the morning Schedule shutdown in the evening, and uses nvram-wakeup or wakeonlan to wake clients up in the morning."
Sometimes a user has a problem that is almost certainly unique to him- or herself. The question is "My system is broken. Why? Here are my configuration files." and the answer is "There's a typo on line 3." I then have the feeling that the question should have been asked in Ubuntu Forums and not i...
I want to downgrade my perversion from php 5.4 to 5.3. I have some problems running my old project on the new version. I already tried method for other Ubuntu versions but nothing worked.

I am pulling my hair out trying to get AMD's graphics drivers to work on Ubuntu. I have an AMD A4-5300 with an integrated graphics card. I am planning on getting a Nvidia driver but I am curious if I am going to have to go through another mess just trying to get it working.
I installed php5-fpm package using apt; then I made some changes to the PHP configuration files.
Now I would get the diffs between the original files versions (the ones of the package installed) and the current. How to do it?

the dragon naturally speaking one is similar to one that we talked about on meta and the consensus was don't close (they're really just asking for how to make an audio pseudo-device). The original discussion was something similar with "rickrolling your friends on skype" or similar for a video device
if you're tryomg to do mount --bind /dev/sda/opt /home/user/opt you need something more like mount --bind /dev/sda6 /home/user/opt or something in /dev/mapper if you're using lvm or luks. ask the question on site including the output of sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda and df
@JoshuaRobison You'll need to mount both / and whatever volume your home is in first. Then you can do a bind mount. You can't directly mount something like /dev/sda1/home
^^ yep both correct statements and may be the root of the issue. i was just trying to get a picture of what everything looked like so i could lineate the directions and explain the whys instead of piecing together what is being done/not done.
if it really concerns you, full UPS would have fixed that. some guys at the break-in challenge at defcon last year did that to just pick up the target tower and walk it out of the room with it still running (which was made out of bounds for later contestants, but was allowed for creativity).

I'm using windowsXP, after installed virtualbox, and downloaded ubuntu 12.04. then after first restart, it shows "please remove installation media and close the try(if any) then press ENTER"
Any help is helpful
Thanks in advance.
I would like to know if anyone can help me with installing Ubuntu on VirtualBox 4.1.12. I'm really having trouble installing ubuntu on there. I am a first time user but always wanted to give it a try, but just need a bit of help.
It's not a duplicate and it's not not constructive
@Takkat has the answer, he just made it a comment
I mean, sureeee it's Windows XP, and rightttt it's not technically Ubuntu as a host. But it's installing Ubuntu via X method, it's an edge case but I'd consider it on-topic. Not going to turn them away simply because they choose to use a host system other than Ubuntu
@Takkat I'd add a shot to the main question, then simply add that as an answer here and then a link to the big question as "Here's a reference on how to do it right"
I have installed GIMP 2.8.4 on my iMac (OSX 10.7.5).

How do I fix this?

My problem is quite peculiar, since the versions I am asking about came out over four years ago, so it'll probably take some time before someone answers.

Possibly. I think as touch becomes more "working" we'll get good questions about it. I already have a dozen or so chambered (that I'm probably going to have to just figure out).
Packaging for touch. Distribution channels for touch. How much is it okay to build in library wise. How can I do this app-dev thing on touch. Yada-yada-yada

Should we add a new close reason for "Abandoned" with a specific message related to abandonment.
There's a slightly worrying trend since we started clean-up efforts: we are closing unanswered questions for being too old. I need to emphasise that this is not what clean-up is about.
The idea of removing older questions is okay but only under certain conditions:

I was looking for stickynotes app in Ubuntu, and I wasted so much of my time because I ended up with old questions that basically were in Outdated releases such as 10.10. Is there a way to delete these questions so that future users won't have to waste their time ?
I checked out this post, But sadly it was closed :-(
Possible Duplicate:

I think this question should be closed because:
it has no (Ask Ubuntu) owner

an old boot-failure

It seems many users here prefer to keep these questions instead of deleting them
@CallmeV, Lets talk from a New user perspective, When an Ubuntu user wants something he will search for it. He will not edit these questions with an updated answer
Fixing them like this askubuntu.com/questions/26632/how-to-install-eclipse is how it has been done for a long time. Wanting rep for asking a question that was asked before and being unwilling to just add an answer is not a solution.
@CallmeV, I know that. But I was talking about outdated questions, Why don't we just remove it since we already have other questions with updated answers.
I'm done talking about this issue. You keep bringing it up in chat every week or so - "How can I re-ask this already asked thing" and as far as I can tell you just keep pushing in the opposite direction of how things have been done for whatever reason.
Open the terminal. the shortcut is:
Ctrl + Alt + t
Then type this command:
sudo rfkill unblock all
If it did not work from the beginning.Try typing it again 2 or 3 times and then see
What will basically do is. Sometimes the hard switch won't work. So you this command works like a hard swit...

On Windows 7, there is this Sticky Note app that will always start itself up and show itself in the same place with all the text you have written when you boot Windows up. You can also have multiple instances of the Sticky Note.
Do we have an equivalent app for Ubuntu?
Fair point. I would think if you really wanted to know why the site has operated that way or propose a better way you would ask on meta though. I'll just switch it to ignore so I don't see the same issue discussion thing again.
@CallmeV chatting is better IMO, And someone already posted the same question in meta, But his post was closed as dupe. so I am afraid they will not listen if I propose something new. :-p
I mean just looking at the answers it seems many users with high rep prefer to keep these questions
@NathanOsman has already suggested an idea, but no one implemented his idea yet
j-johan-edwards pointed out a very important drawback to keeping these questions open and answering them:
"What about the threat that Google will point people to "old version" problems (ie the Can I Delete Parts Of The Internet problem) and they will apply counter-productive "old version" sol...
There is a tool with advanced features for viewing excel files, selecting viewing is accessible for you or some other features, it called xlsx repair Microsoft

well, i'm finding qml interesting to work with and the flashing to ubu-touch didn't brick my new nexus 7 so i'm okay on that front. working on a word-game pack for touch and some other staple apps. i figure if you build the things while it's still alpha, you'll be first out of the gate when you can sell apps
Hello, if someone "answers" my question (i.e. writes something in the answer box), but there is actually no new information, or it's just not an answer, but unhelpful generic stuff: can I say (politely) that it's not useful in the comments? Or am I just supposed to leave it ther?
I generally respond to those with "nice effort but this doesn't really help". Note: It can also be a problem with your question. Bug report veiled as a question is an excellent example.
Okay here goes: I like the UI. I find it more effective than Android or iOS.
Most of the stock apps are broken out of the box on the nexus7 I have.
It's viable if specific hardware is chosen, improved, and supported.
if you're talking about this one: askubuntu.com/questions/281011/… I think it should be closed as subjective narq...not because I don't like it but because what do you like? not being objective
yes, this one. I'm not asking "what do you like better?"
quoting "which of the two comes with the more advanced state of Gnome, out of the box? If the version numbers of Gnome are the same in both, are there any other differences to the Gnome-Shell experience?"
@Bennypr0fane It helps to get a better idea, his answer was generic, but its might be more of an opnion question, but I woul go with ubuntu gnome because it will be supported on relese. Plus I dont think they are seperate projects
actually a developer did give me a good answer on IRC ubuntu-gnome, but I'm not writing it as answer to my question, because 1) I don't remember his name 2) I can't tell for sure his actually a developer and 3) I'm not sure IRC chat is a quotable source
He said that Raring (or Gnome in Raring) will be better supported regardless of the shorter life cycle, and that it's been receiving updates that haven't arrived yet in 12.10. So if this accurate, my answer is 13.04
I think I'm also being pretty specific about what I'm asking. Why you guys saying it's subjective?
Its like asking if vista is better than win 7, if you like gnome remix thats fine( its a unsupported remix)while ubuntu gnome is a newer version of it an will be supported.
