Q: [ install linux OS based on limits ]

ambwgoal to get a working OS on this laptop device lenovo u310 problem can't boot from usb trying to get into the bios in all the basic, common ways does not work like pressing f12 and all kinds of keys (i don't remember all of them anymore) potential causes everything was fine and good...

My Arduino sketch has so little memory, I am counting bytes.

good job america

what did we do this time

ugh

8:29 PM
To be fair, the domain name does seem a little bit on the "trademark-infringing" side.

i'd say it falls under parody

@KazWolfe how is the night mode toggle working on your S8?

@TheWanderer no idea, am not using it

use it

it turns things on and off

8:31 PM
quick tile?

the tile does not turn on

wat
it should...

it does not

it works on my emulator and V20
Samsung wtf

8:34 PM
can you do something about that?

grr, it's 0,1,2,3,4,etc or #1,#2,#3,#4,#5,etc
NOT #0
@KazWolfe can you send me the results of adb shell settings list secure > something.txt

Alright, my Arduino sketch now uses a small enough amount of memory (by maybe 20 bytes) to run without resetting.

lol

This is why I don't do more embedded programming.

@TheWanderer no, i can not

8:37 PM
I wanted to add another sensor library to the sketch. I guess that won't happen now, lol.
Not without some stupid clever optimization.

@KazWolfe you can do it in a terminal emulator if you drop the adb shell part I think

@TheWanderer SecurityException

I don't think you can.
The terminal emulator doesn't have the same privileges ADB does.

adb has no privileges on samsung phones

what

8:39 PM
Otherwise the app could grant itself those privileges :P

adb is effectively powerless on samsungs

@NathanOsman just reading should work though
@KazWolfe how are you using my app then?

No idea about reading.

@TheWanderer adb has enough power to grant those perms

dfq

8:40 PM
but not enough to disable a calendar app

OK try this then
adb pull /data/system/users/0/settings_secure.xml

can't.
don't have a usb-c cable
family member stole it

you have one USB-C cable?

yes, just one.

and also, I know for a fact that adb shell settings * secure works

8:42 PM
which has been stolen.
so i'm using Qi for everything

@KazWolfe what about the other S8

that's the family member's charger.
i'm not allowed it.

wat
why aren't they using it

logic: you have that fancy charging pad at the office, so i'll take yours for my work desk

oke then
well I can't do anything
@KazWolfe just for fun try putting in 100000 for brightness_pms_marker_screen in secure

8:46 PM
how

enable custom settings input in settings of my app

ok, enabled. now what

there's a new card in Miscellaneous

ok

put the key in with the value
and hit apply

8:51 PM
i only see 1 field

uh
there should be three

yeah, global, secure, system.
nothing about k/v

yeah
just use a space

ok done

I might make it so there are separate boxes, but then the layout gets cramped
@KazWolfe did anything change?

8:52 PM
what should have

brightness warning maybe

i dont see it but it doesn't always come up anyways so...
i'll let you know

OK
I noticed that on my dad's S7. Pretty annoying "feature"

yes.
samsung knows what i want from my phone better than i do, obviously.

duh

9:00 PM
@NathanOsman What did you edit and replace with char(255)?

your last name

@Fabby Sorry?
@KazWolfe BEEEEELLS AND WHISTLES. EVERYWHERE.

AND BLINDING PURPLE AND WHITE

@TheWanderer Yup, Nathan has my last name and first name, but I would be surprised if itwas that!

BECAUSE EVERYONE LOVES SCREEN BURN

9:02 PM
@NathanOsman Look at star wall: nothing has 3 stars
test

wat

char(255) is an invisible character... I though you used that...

shar(255) eh

Back in the time before UNICODE when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and I was a kid it used to be non-breaking space...

9:05 PM
char(255) => ÿ

you can umlaud the y?

ÿes

@KazWolfe char(255) isn't part of ASCII.

@NathanOsman 8-bit.

So its value depends on the character encoding.

9:06 PM
ÿ tho

@KazWolfe ASCII is 7-bit.
2

@TheWanderer because ÿ not

7 bit?
wat

@NathanOsman extended ASCII is 8 bit
2

@TheWanderer The high-order bit must be set to 0.

9:07 PM
ÿ is actually an old Flemish letter
Only used in historical texts

how is it pronounced?

CP-1252 FTW.

@Fabby false

@TheWanderer It's a diphthong nowadays written ij
@KazWolfe German too?

@Fabby Afrikaans
And French.

9:09 PM
Current Afrikaans?

Not German

not French...

French? No....

Yes French, restricted to names.
And not current.

O_o

9:10 PM
ÿ is pretty much used nowhere

How is it pronounced in French
Yidncnekfkgkrien?

@TheWanderer It's a diphthong...
no MP3 uploads here...
so you'll have to search on YouTube

> also in rare French names as variant of ï, like Louÿs or L'Haÿ-les-Roses, indicating that the ÿ is to be pronounced separately.

@KazWolfe Praat jij Afrikaans?

@Fabby hey, I understood that...

9:13 PM
@Fabby Am just linguist.

@TheWanderer before the edit? :D
I'm outta here!
Good night everyone!

@Fabby ja

@TheWanderer :thumbsup:

10:04 PM
KDE, please don't pop up an alert to tell me I have a new email in my Sent folder.
If it's in the Sent folder, I am already (hopefully) aware of the message.

lol
@KazWolfe can you read Settings.Global?

10:21 PM
@NathanOsman what client are you using?
(use thunderbird duh)

@Avery Kmail.

24 secs ago, by Avery
(use thunderbird duh)

y tho?

that's not so nice but meh ^

10:24 PM
what

the nutella edit I mean

it's not an edit
I mean there's this version

Gah.

but it's not even the same drawing

10:25 PM
Go just isn't suited for reading from serial ports.
Switching to C++...

@NathanOsman thunderbird is extensible, reliable and multi-platform.

@Avery I don't need multiplatform and Kmail is reliable too.
P.S. I used Thunderbird for about four years before switching.

hmm no crashes in the past few hours on the latest beta...
should I push to production?

@TheWanderer Did you run tests?

10:27 PM
Push now. Debug later.

it works here
and it's released to 800+ people atm

Best reason evaaaaar.

@NathanOsman well, kde's default apps are usually over integrated and that kind of stuff causes stuff like the sent alert.
I do use plasma myself but shrug

screw it
production is two versions behind anyway
and beta was working fine for the past two days with a few crashes here and there

@TheWanderer what adbs do you want?
i have a cabel now

10:30 PM
ooh
adb pull /data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml pls

remote object '/data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml' does not exist

uh o_O
OK just adb shell settings list global > lel.txt

what specifically am i looking for

just send me file pls

why do you want the whole file?

10:34 PM
to look through
since I don't really know what I'm looking for

user136984
10:46 PM
What happened to the starwall? :D

user136984
Anyway...

user136984
Goodnight folks! :)

idk

Q: How can I be helpful?

PaparazioI found an answer that not only didn't work for me, but it also removed a whole bunch of unrelated stuff that now I now need to find a way to reinstall. I just want to add such comment under the original answer to prevent others from having the same problem. However, I don't have the reputation ...

> In the last year, How to exit the Vim editor has made up about .005% of question traffic: that is, one out of every 20,000 visits to Stack Overflow questions. That means during peak traffic hours on weekdays, there are about 80 people per hour that need help getting out of Vim.

lolol

turkey on #2
fake news

Ukrainians are most likely to get stuck in vim (cc @SergiyKolodyazhnyy) ^

linux/macos use in turkey is very low

11:20 PM
@ByteCommander it's @SergiyKolodyazhnyy's trap

Getting stuck in vim goes something like this: ... +... +... ++... +++... presses reset on PC....
