uhm how can this question hit three close votes for being off topic ? askubuntu.com/review/close/568342

@Videonauth because the OP just reinstalled:

A: BIG desktop glitches with Ubuntu 16.04 and AMD

SalomanuelI ended up installing Ubuntu again from scratch. It's not professional, but I needed a working machine.

there's 0 useful information here.

@Seth Aaaargh, I just voted to keep open... missed it.

no biggie.

yeah you not see those whole answer ques when reviewing close votes

@Videonauth vlose clothes

8:07 PM
@Seth i think this hsould be better to see those there, i not always open a link to the question itself to judge then on it but rather stay in the review window

well you can make a feature request :)

and judged on what i see there i got rather for something kept open instead of closing true to my motto, when in doubt do nothing

although someone else has probably already done it.

user136984
@SeverusTux Well, I'm not actually running 16.04 yet due to its buggyness, however it should more or less be the same in terms of GNOME, you are probably running the default 3.18 there and that is what I am running here even though I'm on 15.10.

user136984
The Launcher equivalent I believe is normally referred to as the 'Dock', but I don't actually use that mostly, I use Docky. You should check if qTox has a .desktop file, it probably doesn't and unlike in Unity it needs one if you want to pin it to any Dock (let me know if you have any trouble with that and I will lend you a hand).

The problem with putting files/folders on the desktop is an easy one to solve though, for some reason the GNOME project decided that the desktop best be disabled by default, but if you open the gnome-tweak-tool you can easily configure this in the Desktop section (it is the Icons on Desktop one).

user136984
Hope that helps! If you need anything more just ask! I know the answer to most things GNOME related. ;)

does anyone use insync for Google Drive syncing?

user136984
@SeverusTux: If you want to upgrade to the latest stable GNOME release (3.20) by the way there is a semi-unofficial PPA which is maintained by the Ubuntu GNOME team who make Ubuntu GNOME (so it's fully safe and everything if you are willing to install GNOME, they are the people that give it to you in Ubuntu).

user136984
It says that if you install it your machine will crash and burn sort of thing but I think that they just have to say that because it's new and fresh from the GNOME developers,

user136984
but all the other Linux distros such as Fedora ship it as default so it's actually quite stable, but it's just that it gets released after Ubuntu has its feature-freeze so it doesn't get into Ubuntu, but it itself despite the scary warnings is quite stable, I've been running things from that PPA for ages now and had no problems at all, so have many others here.

8:26 PM
how do I restore specific files from a duplicity backup?

@mikeTheLiar I don't have any ideas. You might want to post on serverfault or unix.se

oh I see.
warning: insync will delete all the existing files in a folder if you choose it as the sync location.

@Seth duplicity -t 3D --file-to-restore <foldername> file:///backup/location <destination folder>

@Seth indeed it does :)

My response to the first set of book questions was graded. 94%, mainly because I didn't cover a couple points.

Anonymous
I spent most of the document talking about the main questions, and kind of breezed pass the minor points

@James no worries, I'm trying a different approach

@Videonauth I am trying to start Persistent Live Ubuntu in Macbook, here a thread askubuntu.com/q/777506/25388

will have a look at it shortly actually editing a question which is a mess :)

Sup?

8:50 PM
@Masi phew in fact I'm not much help when it comes to apples, I'm somewhat allergic to that kind of fruit :P (PUN intended)
o/ TheXed

@Videonauth hows it going?

good so far :) had a long long sleep now
after having been awake for around 3 days

Cool...I just got home from work..
@Videonauth you should try to sleep more often.

that the main reason im early pensioned, i simply cant sleep and have to rely on pharmaceuticals to do so
no reason to say that this way a really productive work live is impossible

user136984
Ok, coming to the end of this month now... So that means that just June and a little of July stand between me and a possible new hell... :P

user136984
8:54 PM
I hope hell forgets to turn up... :P

Wait, early pensioned because you can't sleep and the complications that causes?
@ParanoidPanda what is the possible hell?
Interesting, I thought my graphics card was long forgotten by AMD, I just got a notification that a new driver has been released...
lol the install failed...

@TheXed yep up to a few another problems i wont discose on the net ina logged open chatroom
or lets put it into technical terms 'major depression' and PTSD

user136984
@TheXed: Well, the people here have probably got fed up with me mentioning it, but a person who was rather mean to me gets unsuspended here from a year's suspension in mid-July so I'm just sort of nervously counting down the months because I suspect he might want to release my personal details when he comes back as he has previously threatened...

user136984
So that's that, but I try to not mention it very often, but now I'm very nervous as it's rather soon so I can't really help mentioning it... Though you can see I'm not being very specific in my original message so it's sort of more a thing I'm saying to myself than anything else.

@Videonauth I understand.

user136984
8:59 PM
Anyway, Sushi now! Yum! :D

I mean not literally, but I undestand what you are trying to say.

see my additional line more i wont say

@Videonauth yes I did.
@ParanoidPanda oh...that is rather terrible...

user136984
@TheXed: Well, the guy knows where I live (probably) and threatened to stab me with a knife, and though that threat hasn't turned up (maybe he heard I now do longsword fighting so it put him off >:D), I think the online one doesn't require that much in terms of guts or thought so it's more probable and he'll want to do something... He's actually mentally crazy too so that doesn't help...

@ParanoidPanda this guy needs to be fired...

9:04 PM
@TheXed askubuntu.com/questions/764228/… and another bounty :)

@Videonauth good one!

user136984
@TheXed: Nobody is agreeing to employ him... >:P

user136984
They probably look up his name and find his abuse.

yeah i needed to install teamviewer anyway for all my real life friend which bother me constantly with their PC troubles so i could as well solve this lol

Wait then what is he suspended from?

9:06 PM
I'm getting an error setting up apache2 on Debian, php with codeigniter, is this the right place to find help for something like that?

@Videonauth darn, I only have one hard drive installed...
I wonder what I did with my old SSD drive...

user136984
@TheXed: The StackExchange network, he used to verbally abuse me here (though I also had contact with him in real life) and release my personal information.

To lazy to take apart my computer and see if it still in there, and just not plugged in lol...

:) im sitting here over about 50 TB all n all space

@ParanoidPanda OHHH! I thought you meant like in real life...

user136984
9:08 PM
:D

user136984
Well, he did try to punch me in real life and set his dog on me so... It kind of was worse in real life...

@Videonauth I have plenty of space...in various forms... probably not 50 TBS...

user136984
Anyway, I must eat Sushi now! ;)

but I recently upgraded my SSD and I don't remember whether I took it out of my PC or left it in...
but if is it in there its not plugged in because it isn't showing up on my computer...
@ParanoidPanda no bamboo?

speaking of ssd's the one i bought recently performs fine aven if its an a-data

9:09 PM
anyone? :(

@ParanoidPanda I guess I would have seen that if I had read the entire sentence...
@g3trans what is the error?

woo :D
the index is working fine, however one of the ajax requests to a different path returns 404

@g3trans that doesn't mean I can help fix it :-P

im sure im missing something in the configs or permissions but im not sure :.
:/
cant see anything in the apache error logs

Well the error its self means that whatever resource it is looking for is missing...

9:12 PM
its there but it's managed by codeigniter, works fine on local, also in like a cpanel that does everything
but now we're attempting to set it up in a google server

hmmm...

One second let me show you the apache conf

so to me...it seems like you go to index and it works...then you click the link...can I see what the url is for the link?

rng4.com if you check out the errors you can see it's already trying to load
some icon and getting 404

So the icon never loads?

9:17 PM
one minute
It's looking like it's getting a response now
but it's not displaying it
in firebug

just spinning and spinning and spinning here...

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because since the /dev/urandom and /dev/random are only files which get filled constantly it seems more that this is a responsibility of the developers of Spigot to code in a way which at least not trying to take out more than is available in those files or invent a way to take out what is there and wait till you created enough entropy again by using your computer to take out more. — Videonauth 1 min ago

yeah, that's the problem lal
Give me a min
figuring out stuff :D

Cool

A problem with generating entropy should be handled by the developer of the software not the distribution it runs on. OpenSSL for example could just say "We don't have enough entropy. I'm going to error out", but they don't... because they're developers. — RobotHumans 9 secs ago

9:25 PM
@RobotHumans So what I thought and know form my own programming escapades

user136984
@TheXed: It's Bamboo Sushi! ;P

user136984
And all in my big Panda belly now! :D

user136984
By the way, guys (maybe @ByteCommander?), do you think that I should upgrade to 16.04 yet or is it still too buggy because I'm ready to perform the upgrade now? :)

@ParanoidPanda upgrade and install Budgie DE.

user136984
@TheXed: Ok, I'm quite happy with GNOME at the moment, but I will look into it. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

user136984
9:36 PM
Where can I get it from?

Budgie is amazing :-P
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:evolve-os/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install budgie-desktop

Budgie looks nice from screenshots in google :D

I'm just waiting patiently for lxqt to land.

@g3trans it is my new fav...
but I was never a fan of Unity.

Cool, btw, our problem resolved itself.
Thanks for the help :)

user136984

@TheBrownOne @ByteCommander @blade19899 @cl-netbox: My old Tox profile potentially got compromised so please delete it from you contact lists and I will soon provide you all with a new ToxID if you would like to add me again. :)

@g3trans cool on the problem...

:)
Small question, I'm updating a file with filezilla, I restart the apache service but still it doesn't show the new files automatically
is there some cache inbetween that's storing stuff?

@g3trans no but your web browser has a cache...

yeah, I cleared that didn't help
Only when i remote accessed server and manually changed the file did I start seeing it
change

At least I don't think there is a cache...

Q: Files are not changing when I update them via FTP

MeltingDogI made some changes to a CSS file, uploaded it and saw no change. I cleared my browser's cache, repeated the process and still nothing. I also tried another browser and then experimented with other files - all the same result.I then deleted the CSS file altogether - the website still looks the sa...

some guy here said that
thought maybe you knew

I would second verifying it is the CSS file that you think it is...

For my case it's a js file but yeah, pretty sure it's right since when i update it manually on the server it works. Meh, low importance :D

Could someone remove this comment, or preferably the whole answer? @Seth askubuntu.com/a/777521/72216

A: Complex Number and String comparison

Yokai@Steeldriver This is a script I have written out to show what I need to do without doing it how I have scripted. It is ugly code but bear with me. #!/bin/bash clear echo "Enter a single number at a time." echo "Enter the first number." read ONE clear if [ "$ONE" -gt "9" ] then echo "You need ...

what an unpleasant individual.

@Seth Yeah, sometimes they pass by :)

sad i missed my chance to flagg something as rude and offensive xD

Someone beat me to it.
Oh @Seth :-D
Gotta go...

Haha, well glad it's gone..

indeed
as a german im even more sensible to it if someone is being called that

9:58 PM
Good night all, going to rotate 90 degrees :)

Damn i missed it, what did it say? :D

It's not a good outlook when you lookup who the ops of an IRC channel are to figure out why you've been banned, and find the creator of the channel is someone named "ErrantEgo" :/

@g3trans its not important anymore, it is gone fore good thanks to @Seth i guess and im not going to repeat it here

Thank you for doing your reviewing chores today; come back in 1 hour to continue doing chores.

So...I asked my 2nd question in 3.5 years: askubuntu.com/questions/777557/…

\o/
@chaskes also watched a couple of episodes of the almighty johnsons. it's eh. enjoying it a little though

cool. it's true that the first few episodes are a little blah. seasons 2 and 3 are especially good imho. @RobotHumans

it's good enough to keep watching. so if it keeps getting better, then it's good enough :)

god does anyone of you knwo a good tutorial how to setup a mailserver ?

whoa. This may sound funny, but if I had realized I got points for an upvoted question, I may have asked more of them.

11:49 PM
@chaskes lol

lol

@chaskes o_O
> member for 3 years, 5 months
and you didn't know about the rep gain for Q's?

@Zacharee1 I like solving my own questions. I suppose I should have posted a few self-answered. ;) I'm the first to admit there are details about how SE/AU works that I haven't learned yet. I just didn't realize some were really so obvious.

lol
:p
