There, I linked 'em in a comment. I'm not worried or even bothered by it. I'm just glad they got the help they needed and it works out. It is also probably a duplicate question.
@Seth IMO it's (totally pointlessly) rude. There's no reason at all for the last statment, unless (not that it makes it justifiable) you're so angry at the topic that you end up being rude to the person bringing it up.
@HeatherBrown Those monitors have the same background as your user icon, I think... Or am I wrong? Nice multimonitor setup though! askubuntu.com/q/78792/367990
@kos Well, I figured I'd leave a novella expressing my thoughts on the subject with regards to your meta link. I'm not the most articulate but, darn it, I'm pretty verbose. :D
@kos fake or not, I have seen systems with mouse droppings in them. Cockroaches and other such unidentifiable creatures in it. Just thought the pic was funny. =)
@ByteCommander I bet that smelled yummy of fried spider! ;)
@KGIII +1 also on yours for the balanced thoughts. I have mixed feelings about that topic. Also because the question is not specific enough, that's why all those answers answer a different aspect of that topic.
@kos Yeah, it's not really always black and white. I can see why some people would be offended - they've invested time and effort and that makes them emotionally attached even if they're just internet points. But, my goal is to help people (while falling within the rules of AU). If I've not posted my comment as an answer, please do so on my behalf!!!
@kos Personally, I don't think I'd actually copy someone's comment like that. Heck, I got scolded for not enumerating the three disparate sources that I'd used to come up with a question. :D

@ByteCommander Same flower, different picture

But, yes :D

What is the GNOME Photos application called (that is the package name)?
@KGIII Yeah, even without getting to the internet points or if "stealing" (mind the quotes) answers is "right" or "wrong", deeming an answer as "stolen" is always a mere assumption. Who says the user who posted it didn't know it himself?
@kos True - I think people might look for the simplicity in black and white, arbitrary answers (we can speculate why but that'd be impolite, maybe) for complex questions. I think I can understand why.
@ParanoidPanda Well, you seem to have a new "problem" multiple times per day. At some point, I'm pretty sure you're just looking to break stuff. :-)
user136984
Nah, I always have a system that doesn't work quite as it should... :P
user136984
It wouldn't feel quite the same if something wasn't corrupted etc! :D
@KGIII There might be the blatant case, but it's not occurring to me. Once I "jumped in" in a discussion in the comments (by posting a cold answer) where someone was asking OP for debugging informations about its wifi not working. Probably the commenter had the answer at that point, but guess what? I happened to have the same laptop of OP and to know exactly what was wrong with the wifi and how to fix it.
@kos I'm not really able to think of a specific case but I'm still fairly n00b to this community and, well, I don't always pay as much attention the dates and times that people posted or who commented what and where. This was my first experience with it and it just happened to coincide with YAPQ (Yet Another Panda Question). ;-)
For some reason, chat is playing nicely with my VPN. It wasn't always so nice but it has been nice for the past couple of weeks. I wonder if they changed something? I switch IP addresses pretty often as I go from server to server. It used to lag or sometimes disconnect me after switching. That has not been the case for a couple of weeks now.
@NathanOsman Hmm... I kind of figured it was sockets. I wonder if something has been changed at the VPN or at my end. There's a good chance that I changed some settings around that time and don't recall which - perhaps something in uMatrix.
@ParanoidPanda Have you tried a different keyboard? I believe you'll be able to get one for less than 10 pounds, unless they're extremely overpriced compared to here.
@kos: I actually do have an external keyboard next to me but it is under a lot of junk and through a complex system of wires, connected to my Raspberry Pi (which I have somehow lost under my desk)... :P
@ParanoidPanda Really, you should try the other keyboard. People are losing their time to follow up on that question. Just try that since you have the chance to.
@NathanOsman So I tried using your virtualenv script and it made a directory titled -venv and I can't do anything to it. rm doesn't work, mv doesn't work. They all complain about invalid option -- 'e'

XFCE isn't bad. Gnome just has features that I don't use - so I don't hate it. However, it's pretty much loathed, almost universally, by the folks on Slashdot. I mean, absolutely hated - they hate it more than systemd.
I don't need/want a lot of customizations. I'm pretty basic when it comes to my DE. I don't need glitz and glamor, I just want it to work - the lighter the better.
conky is awesome, but I used it for a little bit and then . . . meh . . . .I don't go back to my desktop so much, either i have terminal open full screen or browser, or both
@Serg Yeah, it doesn't make much sense for me to add Conky. I've played with it (I think it's still installed on one system) but I don't have need for it so I don't use it.
I gotta be honest here... I mostly just like the moving text and pretty colors. I don't actually have a good reason for liking slurm. There's no compelling reason for it to exist as a full time application on my system other than I like pretty colors and some information.
I also really like Terminator as my terminal emulator. If you've not tried it then, well... I don't know what to say except give it a shot.
Hmm... I don't think I'd want the GUI bit in my terminal. I usually go to CLI-land to avoid the GUI. :D (Not that I'm anti-GUI but sometimes I get stuff done better in the terminal and without a mouse/trackpad.)
This poor laptop is just a mess with who knows what installed and not even remotely considering the looks. It's more like a messy room than anything else. No screenshots of that for ya. :P
@GeoMint because i can use korn shell there, also because it's unix emulator . . . also because that solves problem of keeping windows software and administering the system in a familiar to me environment
The only problem is that trying to run some applications while logging into Windows through Cygwin fails like trying to remotely start the screensaver.
If you're trying to fix problems then doing something like changing a system setting, say one to display an icon on the desktop or install software, then you're probably gonna want a GUI.
RDP exists to have a single format to forward the desktop to a different desktop @GeoMint.
Hopefully your father's learned the importance of a good strong password. It does suck to have to type it but it's worth the effort for the added security layer.
