@jrg Basically you enable but not turn on Voice-over (enable it in Settings > General > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut)

12:24 AM
Then you triple-click to turn it on and the screen should go totally black

jrg
and how do i get out of it?

It seems to be triple-clicking again or telling Siri to turn off Voice-over
That's what I've had work

And my WordPress plugin is published... wordpress.org/plugins/go-cannon
Still has the old name though.
I'll have to fix that in an update.

not a problem on my iPhone 5S, iOS 9.0.2
which is odd @RPiAwesomeness
what are you running?

iOS 9.0.2 on a 2014 iPad Mini
I wonder if it's an issue with just our device somehow

jrg
12:28 AM
Oh,i've got the same device here too
i'll take a look in a moment
just your device @RPiAwesomeness

Strange stuff
Well, I guess we're taking it into the Apple store :P

I've got the MF569LL/A

Does someone with enough reputation want to ask someone for some clarification? I'm still pretty new to the site so haven't reached that threshold but more information can really help us help them and I'm unable to add a comment and don't want to just ask a question in the form of an answer.
If so then the question is here: askubuntu.com/questions/681288/… And the clarification that I would request is for more information - how much (if any) internal storage do they have beyond the SD card? Searching indicates it may have a 4GB SSD and that's not mentioned.
Wait, no, I am mentally handicapped tonight. Ignore that.

2:57 AM
There we go. I'm past the threshold. I've also now learned how to link to the help center. I love learning stuff and some of the markup here is different than anything I've used before.

It's the best markup you'll ever use :D
and welcome to the site!

@Seth Thanks. I'm the same KGIII on Slashdot, etc... The markup is different but I'm sure I'll learn it as time passes and as I use it more. Appreciate the welcome. I try to learn a bit daily and helping others helps me to learn. That and it is nice to give back.

3:30 AM
Should arrive within a week or two.

ooh, that's interesting Nathan.

Yeah, I'm curious to see how it works.

that's a nice GitHub mug in the video

@NathanOsman thanks. I'm a bit amused the item description makes it seem like admitting we need to imbibe liquids is like admitting a problem

Heh.

4:32 AM
you up late, @NathanOsman ?

It's only 9:33pm here.
I'm in the PDT timezone right now.

alright :) I think I'm a bit too caffeinated to sleep properly (I'm EDT)

Ah, so it's 12:39am there :P
Yeah, you better get some sleep.
And I just cleaned out 21 GB of junk on my server. \o/

hooray! ... how big's the server? :)

40 GB :P
(So I cleaned up half of the space on the disk.)
Docker sometimes loses track of some of the volumes that get pulled and they get stuck on disk.
Every so often I have to clean them out.

Any idea what part of a chrome profile is broken if it doesn't load properly and address bar autocomplete with the right arrow key breaks?
nvm, you're a firefox guy. i forgot.

Nope, I switched to Chrome :)

Really? What changed?

Firefox was just too slow and unresponsive.
Chrome is much smoother on my hardware.

5:25 AM
Good to know. I'm on chromium not chrome, but it's very close to the same thing.

I'm on Chromium too.
Sorry, I say "Chrome" so easily.
But I prefer Chromium since I can manage it via apt.

That actually looks pretty cool.
I'd love to try it.

these videos are always kinda amusing to me
they look so content

don't get me started. i have a lot to say about seemingly content people raising crowd funding on kickstarter and legal threats.

5:48 AM
is it possible to get you started on just an exec summary ? :)

yes. yes it is.

Can anyone say "Ubutab"...? :P

Is that how we're referring to the AU chat tab now?

No, the "Ubutab" was a rather notorious scam in the Ubuntu community whereby someone attempted to crowdfund a cheap Ubuntu tablet and then proceeded to disappear off the face of the earth.

6:03 AM
I hadn't heard, but I see the correlation.

The thing is... lots of people were pointing out problems with the campaign right from the beginning.
And yet, some people still fell for it.
(Random sidenote: our blog (2buntu) actually was contacted by them really early on asking for us to write about them. We didn't.)

FWIW, I'm working on the flask-json api since it seems all the major identity providers turned off xmpp.

Is that instead of XMPP?

Yes. If you have to spin up a server, it takes out the reason for XMPP, so you may as well just use flask from the gate. Makes sense when you think about it that way right?

Indeed.
Docker is really getting on my nerves. I have only these images on disk:
REPOSITORY VIRTUAL SIZE
hectane/hectane 193.7 MB
wordpress 512.8 MB
mysql 324.3 MB
postgres 264.2 MB
nathanosman/quick-media-solutions 420.9 MB
And yet somehow they occupy over 30 GB of space.
Somebody's math isn't right. Or there's a bug.

6:19 AM
I suspect it has to do with the docker virtual size. A linux install of 4Gb * 5 == 20 + half a gig *5 is a lot closer to 30, Not quite there, but then you have config blobs and additional details. I'ld take 6.5 Gigs and that readout, because you're using the same base image, but that is ridiculous.

Well first of all, almost all of those images derive from the same base image so it should only exist once on disk. The base Ubuntu image is 65 MB.
So I'm completely mystified.

Then I too am mystified. I was operating on the assumption that an install was 4G

No, it's a really slim base image.

I'm not arguing. I'm just telling you the assumption that made us disagree on expectations.

I know you're not :)
And I understand the confusion since a desktop installation is quite large.

wait what?
so far? i haven't been trying to grow the freezer recently though, so either way it doesn't make a lot of sense.

didnt yo say something about changing sections at work?

oh yes, work. frozen. about once a year i "stock my freezer", make it fat, whatever... so i was confused and only realized my personal freezer.

ah ;)

yes, frozen is going well. down from 130 outs on a friday two weeks ago to 17 controllable outs after a week of fixing. i'm a little scared what they're going to do to me after i fix it to zero.
hopefully they'll just leave me alone and let me stay in my freezer.

nice, yeah - hopefully relize that to maintain that they need to keep you somewhere

i don't know if you know, but we're having a hurricane off the coast here, so sales were RIDICULOUS this week. still made it to 17 controllable. So, it's double awesome, not just awesome.

I'm suspecting the brakes on the truck failed and he was trying to "swerve slow". Probably a tollbooth at the bottom of a steep incline.

@hbdgaf possibly

With large enough trucks even "good" brakes fail because they overheat on steep inclines if overused.
In the US, we have turn-outs up in steep incline in the mountain areas with dirt barriers where trucks with overheated brakes can come off the road and crash safely.

user136984
@A.B.: Wait, so GNOME Shell or GDM is my window manager?

user136984
5:09 PM
Or am I getting confused here? :D

@ParanoidPanda GDM is the display manager associated with the GNOME window manager, I think
Just make a feature request to GNOME. It sounds like that's what you're using

user139252
@A.B. who in here was a BVB fan then? I forget too easily. I obviously need more coffee D:

GDM is your display manager
@HeatherBrown no idea

user139252
@ParanoidPanda GNOME shell uses Mutter as a window manager, GDM as a display manager, and Wayland as a compositor

user139252
You would request window grouping as a feature from the GNOME team.

5:20 PM
I really should have finished that flask app template deploy thing I was playing with a month ago.

user139252
GNOME is essentially just written as a plugin for Mutter anyway, so window grouping would just be an extension of that plugin

@Mateo - question for you if you have a sec.

None of the phone stores have one of these phones to try it out a bit.

5:39 PM
and don't listen to the people complaining about no backgrounding
there is a app in the open store that lets you let an app backgound
@hbdgaf sure, I'll be heading home in a few. but will have my phone

Still playing with that card game thing. If there were buttons instead of drag and drop for gameplay, would that be a dealbreaker on you liking it?

Hmm, I guess it depends on how it is played

I know drag and drop would be better, but I'ld rather get something playable now than something perfect never.

Would it be like up/down arrows for card selection

Like stacks with buttons under them for select stack or slot in stack with select slot for building stacks.

5:47 PM
Sounds reasonable

Okay. Was just making sure clicking twice instead of one drag wasn't off-putting.

Microsoft applies for patent on multi-OS smartphone

MS, is trying to sneakily get a monopoly on Phones. This is just step one, of a much more elaborate plan.

I allready have multiboot... You shouldn't be able to patent dual-boot...

@Mateo You shouldn't be able to patent anything.

6:01 PM
@blade19899 lol, that is almost exactly like berryboot

@Mateo The Ubuntu Developers, also released an Android app, which made it possible to MultiBoot your Android with The Ubuntu Touch. Not sure if other OS's are supported now.

Oh, yeah there was that too
Hope the multiboot people hear about this

Q: Can't boot after Ubuntu 15.10 Beta 2 Install

clayAfter some software problems with Ubuntu 15.04, I installed Ubuntu 15.10 beta 2, I figured that couldn't be much worse, ant now I can't boot off of my hard drive, and even when I try to boot my Ubuntu USB drive I get a kernel panic. This is new, 2015 hardware, I'm pretty sure there are zero hard...

@blade19899 You'ld think that multirom would be "pre-existing work" that would take that patent apart.
But, I'm not a lawyer. I just downloaded it one day six months ago from XDA
@Mateo - decided to come at it another way. My next step is waiting for a clean build of UE4. The UMG supports drag and drop out of the box, there are LOADS of target platforms, and there's a json data exchange plugin.

6:53 PM
Ah, that would work
My new scope is now showing on uappexplorer: uappexplorer.com/app/color.mateo-salta

Yup. And then you don't need a full server. Just a flask end-point that reads json posts and verifies game logic. It's got to be lighter than running a UE4 server instance.

Well, not always, but it's been a very long time.
It's been at least 9 years.
(My first intro to linux)

Yeah, I don't remember not having them and my first Linux was ~16 years ago.
I'm guessing they were implemented in UNIX long before Linux came around.
And certainly long before Ubuntu did.
