no no lag shouldn't happen when you tap your CPU out

@Virusboy I can get you one yes.

k
Yes I see what you mean
if you remove the image does it still return?

after a day, yes. i think someone put a cron script on
worst comes to worst i can restore from my clean backup from two days ago

Is it just your device?

yup

5:15 PM
is the pic on other devices?

@Virusboy nope, but i'm digging through the root storage on the device right now to find the crontab, and see if there's anything going on there
the lovely thing about root
YOU CAN DIG INTO THE OS

Yes, one of the few things you can do, if you know how not to destory anything the way down

@Virusboy hence my saying clean backups
oh i know what caused this
/me points at mlplol.sh
>.>

....
you really should disable that on startup
Found the site it belongs to at least

@Seth: I have a message in my inbox: askubuntu.com/posts/comments/801297?noredirect=1 that I can partially read, but the page doesn't exist... Could you tell me what the OP was trying to tell?

5:22 PM
I was reviewing when I came up on this answer to an old question.
-1
A: How to install the latest Octave

vishalgLatest ppa is ppa:octave/stable. https://launchpad.net/~octave/+archive/ubuntu/stable This ppa is maitained by the "GNU Octave" team and has version 3.8.1 available for lucid and precise.

> I did not try powering up without the cord (I did try it without a battery though). The problem was related to kernel upgrade - I had to downgrade it and it worked fine. – REACHUS

How should I handle it?

@Fabby --^

@Virusboy downvote.

@Seth: --^ : Your search did not match any documents (no clue: I only know the Morse code smileys like :) and ;) and ]:(:) etc... )

5:25 PM
@Virusboy it still qualifies sorta as an 'answer' but...

its to a question on 10.04
back in '12

same difference
@Virusboy Octave is GUI right? In theory it's still 'supported' but not exactly. This is why I like the newer LTS instead of the older scheme - one was Desktop/Server staggered, now they're same length.

I dont know, last I checked Octave was GUI.

well it sounds like 'desktop' support but what matters is when the question was asked
the question i believe was asked before 10.04 Desktop went EOL

5:47 PM
@Fabby It's an arrow pointing up, i.e "look up there"

:) Thanks!
(completely lost on me; got it now!)

Sigh.

Boy, those sure get removed quick...

haha Annoyed User

5:59 PM
when did smokedetector get that feature?

he just noticed it

One of the dangers of making ones bed is that you occasionally lay down ... and want to fall asleep :P

@RPiAwesomeness did you finish your hackintosh yet?

@Whaaaaaat Not yet. I had school all this morning.
And now house cleaning chores :D (#SarcasticSmileyFace)
O.O
SuperVVVVVVeatBoy?
Oh dear

what

6:02 PM
VVVVVV & Super Meat Boy are both games.

ik

And VVVVVV has an awesome sound track
At least, I found it quite good.

@Whaaaaaat A couple of weeks ago.

Oooo. Ican stream PPPPPP on Spotify

spotify is too expensive
and has too many ads
but it does have more songs than pandora

6:04 PM
I got Premium for 3 months for $1, so I've been using it a lot lately
The free wasn't too bad for ads, at least in my experience.

oh god game modding is a pain

@Whaaaaaat yes it is

@Whaaaaaat lol
What, Minecraft?

skyrim
manual mods.

6:07 PM
modding any game is

seriously?
i have to purge everything and start from scratch. stupid mods

Ugh :(
@Whaaaaaat I'll ping you in the other room when I'm ready to work on mine hackintosh, 'k?

Wow!

k den
i'll be waiting, or cleaning up my skyrim save

6:09 PM
(probably the latter, today is NOT going to be fun)
@RPiAwesomeness my updated build plan. i think it'll be okay
still under 2500.

Nice! I wish I had ~$2.3k to spend on a PC :(

you think i have that?
LOL
i need a steady job :(

At least you have a steady girl

@RPiAwesomeness Spread it out over time.

@Virusboy uh, what?

6:14 PM
One month buy the PSU, next month buy a new video card, next month buy more RAM...
@Whaaaaaat Yeah. Uh, what?

@NathanOsman i'd have my computer by the time it's obsolete.

Not if you buy brand new parts.

but then LGA3500 will be out

@Whaaaaaat By the time I have that kind of money, X99 is gonna be standard pickings :D

and i'll have an LGA1150 mobo
and we'll have the GTX2500 and PCI will be all but obsolete

6:16 PM
Standard PCI is already obsolete.

and usb5.0 will be deployed

@Whaaaaaat Nah. It'll be called USB E.

PCIe x16 is where it's at :P

and human augmentation will be done

@NathanOsman saw a motherboard without any of them

6:16 PM
good god. it's far too easy to get stars here.
4

Y'know. Current fastest is USB C, then USB D, the USB E...
@Whaaaaaat My thoughts exactly.

and ofc, incoming stars

Who knows, maybe USB 0x3F will be released by then...

no. usb 0xDEADBEEF will be out
brb sanitising skyrim saves

For all those Hackintoshers out there ;)
Dude. USB needs to switch to a Hex-based naming system.
Named according to the speeds.

6:19 PM
@RPiAwesomeness What if USB 0x201C3433 is not compatible with USB 0x201C3432?
do you know how many people that will confuse?

Oh crap, that'd be horrible xD

also, "i needa usb cable" "do you have a 0x201c3432 or 0x201c3233 port?"
imagine going to bestbuy

But, nah. By then everything will be standardized and running Linux.

if only
okay really?
dual monitors is a curse

@Whaaaaaat they would all clam to sell you 0xFFFFFFFF gold plated cables and charge $100 for 3 feet

6:21 PM
@Mateo They would too :P

@Mateo and 0xFFFFFFFF cables don't plug into any revision other than 0xE509BBCA and all 0xFFFC---- cables

no USB needs to be 1394

*actual speeds may vary

and even then, you don't get full speed unless you use the ultra-rare, ultra-proprietrary 0xFFFC2010
@Virusboy you mean 1394?
@Virusboy not in a relationship, mate.

yes i did

6:23 PM
but i do have a steady grill.

then marketing would be like "why can't we use all X's and Z's for our cable?
those look way cooler and sound faster!

Yeaaa Firewire will replace USB

What is the name of this desktop?
I want that ^-^

An OS X desktop?

Well, that's the Numix Circle Icon theme (I believe)

6:32 PM
How can I install that on my ubuntu?

@KasiyA Just a sec

@KasiyA unity...

I don't know I found it from:

I don't know the GTK theme...

6:34 PM
looks like someone just switched the color of the close icon on the default

@KasiyA sudo add-apt-repository ppa:numix/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install numix-gtk-theme numix-icon-theme-circle unity-tweak-tool

notice how it is slightly bigger then the other circles..

No I want it for bottom dock

Try using both the Numix Circle icon theme & the GTK theme too. It's one of my personal favorites

dock, its name. right?

6:35 PM
I'd guess Docky or Plank
Or is it docker...?

Cairo dock

Anyone any close votes left? this question is a duplicate of the OP's own question! (left a nice note already)

It's always a bit strange when users do that...
Ooo. I'm in a lovely cloud of dust speckles right now!

6:36 PM
@Mateo Yes thats it.

Gotta love cleaning on a sunny day!

@Mateo cairodock is awesome

then you just hide the side pannel on unity, and done

How can I install it?

@Fabby Voted

6:36 PM
@RPiAwesomeness: :* :* :* >:)

@KasiyA Well, the icon theme I gave you instructions for (see above). Cairo-dock is just cairo-dock in apt-get I believe...

let me try

i made 4 for dup

Yeah, sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plugins

@RPiAwesomeness yes, you are right.
thanks man
where are you on ask ubuntu?

6:38 PM
moi?

Huh found :)

Q: How can I adjust the transparency of the Status Bar (top panel)?

Brian GrahamThe status bar (by default) at the top of your screen with the icons OFF to the right, date, user name and other computer options. How can I make that bar transparent, like it is when dash activated (as seen in a screen below)? Instead of having this:

rrrr nexus
wai u limit my download speeds?

that for the transparent top bar like in the picture

I already did that :) thank you

6:41 PM
> Please try to make it simple instructions, step by step, not to great on knowing how to do computer stuff.

@KasiyA Were you asking me? 'cause I'm always open to bounties ;)

Simple enough for him: askubuntu.com/a/579815/36315?

Isn't Second Life that fake life sim?

@RPiAwesomeness Never heard of it. But, got it installed on Ubuntu for him.

\o/
@Whaaaaaat You still here?

6:43 PM
yes/no
i'm busy yelling at skyrim

Oh. Okay ;)

AAAAAAnnndd I made a simple tutorial for him.

@Whaaaaaat isnt modding that a complete mess??

@Virusboy sorta

@Whaaaaaat Just wanted to let you know that I'm creating the USB stick for Yosemite :)

6:44 PM
k den
make sure to use clover
it should be pretty straightforward
and patch your kernel

@Whaaaaaat Oh, yeah ;)

quit making me alt-tab -_-

I'ma following the guide you gave me, so we should be fine ;)
ALT-TAB! ALT-TAB! ALT-TAB! ALT-TAB! ALT-TAB! ALT-TAB!

I want to install all the desktops

@Virusboy Desktop Environments?

6:45 PM
yes

Ah
I want to try Ubuntu MATE.

I have Gnome Unity and Cinnamon

I tried GNOME, I didn't like it very much. I should give it another go though.

Tim
@Fabby hey

@Tim: can I go for a 2 minute smoke first???

Tim
6:53 PM
sure :)

BRB!

I am stuck in the login when trying to login with cairo-dock session :(

Tim
i found that quite buggy to... :/
what about startx?

@KasiyA just launch it within unity

@Tim: shall we decamp to another room???

Tim
6:56 PM
yeah probably sensible

I never had luck with the cairo dock session

Tim
What does it even do? I was just messing when I tried to login

how can I start it within unity?

@KasiyA Just search Cairo from the dock
Or whatever that thing in the corner is

ow, owkey

6:57 PM
Click on the Big Freaking Button and search ;)

cinnamon is just as buggy with logging in

We've got like 2-3 conversations going on xD
And they're all almost related, very similar sounding
@Mateo My, what a big screen you have.

cool! thanks

@RPiAwesomeness Race The Sun wallpaper!
I think it's 1920x1080

6:59 PM
Mine's a weird one: 1440x900
So not quite 1080p, but more than 720p.
Makes my screen recordings ever so slightly blurry and have black bars :P

the max?
you sure?

huh, nope - 1680x1050

@Virusboy Yeah

that doesnt even make sense

It's a 16:10 aspect ration & it's 19" diagonal

7:00 PM
1366x768 does though

@Virusboy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

7:18 PM
@Mateo: Do you have an HP portable Workstation???
Those have that weird screen size!

it's an aoc, it should do the 1920x1080 I thought, but is some kind of "advanced" mode. I just gave up trying to set xorg.conf to get it right
haha, I just installed a windows 3.1 screensaver on linux and it works!

well 3.1 is nothing more than a shell.
Hell you can run 3.1 on linux no trouble

yay flying toaster screensaver!

Ah, yes.

now im going to ask a wierd question on SU. Look for it.

Q: Ubuntu 14.04 : new Graphic card slower boot

zed13I installed an geforce gtx 650 on my desktop but since then when my pc boots it stays on the bios during approximately 30 seconds, before it was only 2 seconds and I don't know why. Maybe I read that I need to update my bios, but I don't know how, and it seems complicated. If you can guide me. It...

not this one

7:30 PM
is this mac os(?) or ubuntu:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/579814/how-to-use-unzip-in-linux-terminal-ssh

its not ubuntu
but its not OSX

someone might have zipped it on a mac, and he is extracting it on ubuntu

@Mateo doesnt work like that

love it when all the "hidden files" on macs aren't hidden on the network drives

@Mateo I got a story on that....

7:32 PM
you can zip a folder and still unzip it in Mac or Linux

some windows admin had to create shares to a linux server. So smart as he is ... his thought process: linux has a /home/$users/ so if I mount /home/$user/ to each user I am done very quickly.
Next day I get a call that NOBODY could log in. The admin saw all these weeeeeeeeeeeeird file names starting with a . and shift-deleted them ...

@Mateo: Flying toasters! That's early 90's!

uh oh...
everyone's home folders!

guess who had to fix it? :-D I made them pay for it
yeah files not so important like .profile and .bash_profile.

@Fabby this one came with a 5 inch disk as well, it's the version from win 3.1

7:36 PM
@Mateo: yes you're right: created on a Mac, unzipped under Ubuntu!

did the MACtard force the cabinet file to do that specifally?

Nope, automatic for when you send the file to another MAc...
@Mateo: can you still read 5"1/4 1.2MB floppies????

@Fabby I don't have a drive :(

Damn! :(

it came with the smaller disks too

7:38 PM
I've got my thesis still on those...
Verbatim, 5"1/4 floppy drives... No hard copy any more...

I wish kept the one from the 486 computer I had

I wish I kept the one from my 286!
It was an original IBM...
As was the 8" 1.2MB from my CP/M machine... >:)

I got a 5 1/4 fdd at work :D

That's how old I am!!!!
@Rinzwind: seriously?
1.2MB?
or the 360K?

we got a MAI BASIC FOUR at work too. have a search for that
360k version

7:41 PM
Searching... Naah, that's the problem:
I've got 1.2 MB... :(
Probably wouldn't be able to read the WordPerfect 4.2 format anyway, but...

and that MBF still works :D 5Mb it can save on a large tape, takes 4 hours to load that whole 5 Mb

:D
Amazing!

the are selling on ebay nice

Do you have a mini-museum?

7:44 PM
This item has been inspected and appears to be in good condition
:(
I want someone who can guarantee that his still works... That's why I never bought one...

that one was tested

Mmmh...
Thanks!

so they range from $40 for a possible paperweight to more

Saving it to favourites...

haha, If you get it let me know, I have the bigger disk for the flying toasters if you want ;)

7:48 PM
:)

About a minute left in the hackintosh install attempt numero dos.
Let's hope it doesn't screw over Ubuntu like the last one did.
Thank goodness for Luis Alvarado :D

Wasn't there a clone of flying toasters in XScreensaver that was taken out or so?

@RPiAwesomeness what did he do now? :D

@Rinzwind He saved my bacon :D

bacon. yummy

7:49 PM
He wrote an answer listing ways to fix the icons & mouse, no Unity issue for Ubuntu that has helped me twice now :)

@Fabby hm, not sure. I don't need a screensaver anymore, so I'm just messing with this box of stuff I found for the fun of it

I really ought to bounty him, but he's already got tons of rep and I don't

@Mateo I just found it: they had to change the "look and feel" because they were being sued...

Dang OS X. This is the world's longest "about a second" ever ...

it's flying airplanes that look a bit like toasters...
@RPiAwesomeness: do you know what a Microsoft minute and a New York second are???

7:51 PM
@Fabby ;)

A Microsoft minute is between 1-20 minutes
A New York second is a physical constant and is the smallest possible amount of time measurable :
It's the time between the light turning green and the guy behind you starting to honk his horn!
>:)

NO @fabby a New york minute is a Jersy second
just food for thought

> +Linus Torvalds did you know that some Juras [coffee machines] use Windows Embedded?
> +Daniele Pantaleo La-la-la-I-can't-hear-you-over-the-noise-of-my-own-denial.

Q: Does Windows 98 require a seperate partition?

VirusboyI have an idea, but do not know if it'll work. I want to use Windows prior to XP, but, since 2000 does not have a bootstraper method(none I can recall). My setup is Ubuntu Windows 10 and a Data Partition. Is it possible to run 98 under 10 as a program or would I need something more complex?
