3:00 AM
Which also means price of tickets to superbowl will increase too

Commercials are funded by FIAT currency and keep lots of average people trying to look beautiful.
Super Bowl tickets are probably a business write-off like Edmonton Oiler tickets.
It all expands FIAT currency

we prefer average idiots if we are referring to anything Superbowl....

You don't need to be an idiot to get laid by a plastic super bowl girl

@WinEunuuchs2Unix honestly it is the rest of the city that really benefits from hosting something like that...
@WinEunuuchs2Unix....think about what you just said...

no doubt there is economic benefit to bars, hotels, eateries, etc.
what you don't like plastic girls?
barbie would hate your guts.

3:03 AM
Nope, and I would also say that if that is all you can get...then you are either a basement dweller and afraid to come out of your parents basement...or you truly are an idiot....geeesh...
Barbie is 8 inches tall, she doesn't scare me, and is afraid of lighters half her size...

Yeah barbie is made of plastic but it was a double meaning with real life plastic girls who serve a valid purpose I believe.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah I know...I was exaggerating....

Although they aren't written in the bible except for Jesus who defended a prostitute and said "let he who has not sinned cast the first stoned"... the bible is complicated :)

Then there was Sodom and Gomorrah...

Whoa it's 26-28

3:06 AM
Nope it is now tied...
OT here we come...

First overtime game in superbowl history.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix are you sure?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix This is an example of what I was describing about trying to help a user that does something that can't be accounted for and it takes time to figure out what. If the user would answer more specifically the questions, it would be substantially easy.. He's having problems with running a crontab even for a specific interval.

I'm sure I heard the color commentators say that.

I gave a test for him to use as verification. The crontab runs and stop. Whatever output he's having can be identified as something else he has running.

If he performed the test, then I could help him figure out the discrepency for why he's seeing something different with his application.

3:09 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I live in America, our commentators don't care about interesting facts..

A: How to run a cron for specific time interval with 5 minutes interval

L. D. JamesYour crontab entry will function as you described. You'll have to look for something else that is running the activity you are seeing. It's not the crontab entry in your example. The details of how to verify the actual crontab entry is below in the verification section. Use comas to specify t...

He's doing as you mentioned, typing one line and a day or two type another comment. If it were chat, it wouldn't bother me. A day or two later when he added another chat entry, my response would be the same. What's the results of the test provided. After it success... then my next step would be to analyze the difference between the test and what he'd doing that is not functioning correct.

I could answer this but I am to sick to have the energy...

Sorry for being so verbose.

Nothing wrong with typing in advance and copying and pasting into chat room.

Not sure if you are responding to my comments, but I do that both for the comments and the chats.
...as well as for various forums.

3:15 AM
I'm a pretty fast typist with lots of errors
so I can pretty much spot
copy and paste
when I see it :)

I hope I'm not disturbing your previous chat. You don't have to respond immediately, when you're busy.
The last time tested myself I typed about 90 words a minute.
That was about 20 years ago.

9000 here, but that is when I use all four of my hands...

In college they swore they would flunk all of us if we couldn't type 45 WPM
But then after most of us failed they said
"haha we were just kidding you are programmers not typists" it's your mind that counts.

I stutter when I talk. I do the same thing when I type. I often hit the backspace a lot and remove repeated words.

3:17 AM
let me know when you find "sanitytest.com" and I'll click that link :p
@L.D.James sorry for my lag... we were watching Superbowl (American version of football) and commenting on it is all.

54 WPM with 6 typos...I even impressed myself...

No problem... I figured you were.

Come on the falcons have to stop them I will cry if the pats win...
I am going to cry anyways stupid cold...

NEP are on a tear right now... I would bet against Falcons now.

Good thing I don't bet on sports...

3:21 AM
Some of the guys at work were talking about betting 1500 bucks...I'm like whoaaaa

I bet they are crapping their pants right now...

Not 1500 bucks on this game... a game 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Oh...
knocking on the door...

greetings to all

That didn't look like pass interference

3:24 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I think he got called for it because he never looked back to see where the ball was, didn't even know it was thrown that direction...
So he can't contend that he was going after the ball...

Aww American Football A game of inches

@WinEunuuchs2Unix it can be...
Probably the most exciting Superbowls in recent history...

It was in Superbowl LI
Oh look Brady is praying now... He found GOD.

Hey did anyone check the air pressure after the half time?

oh, superbowl.
okay, i'm gonna interrupt this with ubuntu.
Does anyone know how I can set an animated GIF as a wallpaper without any frills or workarounds?

3:27 AM
Ubuntu is off-topic in this Super bowl chat room :p
I thought wallpaper was static and not dynamic???

It is. Which is why I want to set a dynamic wallpaper.

otherwise it would be "wall moving stuff".

. . .

@thatcoderiguana I like how gboard autocorrected my obvious disgust to "belgium" though xD

@Seth Why did you ping yourself?

3:30 AM
I didn't.

What??? belgium as in brussels as in the EU?

@Seth You did in the tweet.

@KazWolfe yes, install Windows Vista Ultimate...

So now we know Seth is 3:28Am when we are 8:28pm or we know his twitter is @thecoderiguanna?

@TheXed Ha ha.

3:34 AM
twitter banned me for being a robot...I hate them!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix That's UTC.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix all this time I thought you were!

How arrogant Grenwich is coining "Universal Time" as if they are the centre of the universe :p

@TheXed I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's true

It was that or paris.

3:35 AM
What it's gang on Robot's night? I never got the memo :D

@WinEunuuchs2Unix if we didn't love our resident bots, we wouldn't give them a hard time, would just ignore them...Right @SmokeDetector?

What about @Kazwolfebot who you know personally in a way?

That's @WolfBot, and is currently offline.

@WolfBot is cool too..

@ReallyWhoKnew? oh right you did :p

3:37 AM
So we hate on him equally...

Can't hate on what's dead.

@KazWolfe he died?

now, back to figuring out how to set a GIF as a wallpaper.

:O

@KazWolfe oh. Because it's a reply to an earlier tweet of mine?

3:38 AM
This is getting a little weird.

@TheXed That tends to happen to bots with no server to live on.

So he is homeless?

I saw the movie "Lucy" they create their own servers and USB's they hand to Morgan Freeman.

@TheXed Yes

@WinEunuuchs2Unix it's 1938 here so the latter seems more likely. Not that it isn't just on my profile or anything..

3:38 AM
What happened to his home? we could have crowdfunded?

It's too late to crowd fund when he's making 20 dollars an hour and no longer homeless... no stopping him now!

@TheXed Not worth it, and I don't want other people's money for such useless things.

It's not useless if it is fun for you....

3:40 AM
@Seth Hate to say it but I never read your profile Seth.

@TheXed There are still much better things I can beg other people for money for.

I spent 500 dollars on a camera I don't know how to use (although I am learning) but I don't think it is useless because I enjoy it...

Funny I only look at noob profiles for the most part....don't know why

I'm trying to get my home server online again soon.

So what exactly is wrong with it?

3:42 AM
@KazWolfe When armies of 16 y/o girls offer you $800 you've got it made.

Doesn't exist anymore.
Hardware got moved to a serious project (that is actually worth throwing money at, lol -- but please don't, it has plenty of funding) -- cc @TheXed @JourneymanGeek

@KazWolfe "trying" - what's wrong with it?

LOL wow they are Booing the President of the NFL...

You should see how they boo Gary Beckman the president of the NHL.

@KazWolfe oh so it is still there, has been relocated...

3:43 AM
yeah, no. I don't ever get rid of hardware until I've worked every CPU cycle it has out of it.

@KazWolfe dosen't everyone have a bunch of decade old PCs and laptops they can drag out? ;p

Or it just becomes so outdated and useless that keeping it around is more expensive than getting rid of it.
All I want now is an animated GIF background ;-;

@KazWolfe pretty soon that won't ever be the case, because even an old outdated computer will make a hell of a Raspbian Pixel machine...
Once they release a installer for x86

@KazWolfe if it does sata, its a keeper
for now
I'm gradually dumping my PATA boxen as they turn up

@JourneymanGeek Last non-defective machine I terminated was IDE.
And still had a dedicated floppy drive, and 4x CD reader.

3:45 AM
right now my secondary box is about a decade old

I got rid of all personal IDE boxes a long time ago...

4:3 <3
and sata

But I still find them lingering at work every now and again...

Oh, I have some drives

so... back to something you guys can actually help with :P
Turning this into a wallpaper:
afk, dinner

3:47 AM
what we're going to work on your project whilst you eat? :p

Kinda low res isnt't it?

On purpose
and low colour

So even if we where able to find a way for you, you want it to look like shit?

@TheXed well that's one way to describe a waterfall xD

I am just saying that, that image stretched on a modern display is going to look very bad...
Okay this sick man is going to bed...good night to everyone

4:02 AM
Sounds like a xorg or gnome hack...ie download source and patch it some how... above my pay grade of zero :)
nikght @TheXed
^^^ oh my managed to misspell night and knight at same time :(
I got to go poof too.

What the ....

4:56 AM
@muru ok, not quite right. Ctrl-Alt-Tab is for switching accross workspaces. Atl-tab should already move to previous window on the window stack. Alt+Tab , then using Shift+Tab starts the stack switcher, but just goes in reverse order, i.e. to the lowest one on the stack ( least recent )

@Serg odd, I just tested on a 16.04 VM before posting
gotta go, meeting with boss, be back in half an hour

See ya

5:53 AM
@Serg I don't have CCSM installed (it's all stock), so dunno what's going on there

@muru in other words, the shortcuts are all default stuff. Meh, if it works it works. Doesn't matter

Are those shortcuts anywhere in gsettings?
Heh, spam in Japanese

They are, but I need to run dconf watch / and alter them in compizconfig to find where exactly. Give me a min
/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/alt-tab-forward-all
That's the exact schema for Ctrl+Alt+Shift
When it's default, the schema is unset. If you alter it, it creates schema with specific keybinding
/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/alt-tab-forward-all
  '<Control><Alt><Super>Tab'

/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/alt-tab-forward-all
  unset
First one is where i set it, second is reset to default

Improving my older answer with perl :D askubuntu.com/a/689248/295286

Good morning ! :)

o/

@Takkat Good morning to you ! :)

good $(your time) all

Morning , guys

7:50 AM
@Serg Have a +1 for your effort ! :)

Wait, why am I still here ? It's 1 pm !!!
@cl-netbox thank you ^_^

@Serg Hello Sergiy ! :)

Monday mornings are always the best for wishing them to be good.

@Serg You're welcome ! :) I saw that it had none at all ... so ... :)

Mmm, bad bad bad, I need to go take shower and sleep. I need to keep my sleep in order . . .
@cl-netbox it's a very old answer. I made it way back when i was doing only awk and some bash scripts. Somebody posted an answer on it, so it showed up on the main page. I completely forgot of it's existence until now
I actually improved my awk answer, because I know how to do it better now

7:55 AM
@Serg That happens to me as well sometimes ... when I receive a vote on an old answer, I re-check it ... sometimes I find something to improve. :)
@Zanna Good morning Zanna ! :) Everything fine so far ? :)

Too many answers ? or not enough ?

8:11 AM
@cl-netbox very fine thank you :) hope it's the same over there
@Serg just right, keep it up :D
I need to find some good questions

@Zanna Great ! :) and yes, I'm fine too ! :) Guess what happened yesterday ? An answer I wrote one year ago was accepted yesterday ... one year later ... hahaha :)

8:25 AM
I feel this shouldn't be accepted, and the editor should post a new question: askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/675118 thoughts?

Here's a VTC chance for you @ByteCommander @muru @Serg @Zanna -> askubuntu.com/questions/880345/… ! :D

@muru I agree.

Good morning @JacobVlijm ! :)

@JacobVlijm thanks

Hey @cl-netbox!

8:30 AM
@JacobVlijm I found a clearly off-topic question -> askubuntu.com/questions/880345/… ! Having a feeling that new questions are not of "best quality" in the last days ... do you agree on that ? :)

@cl-netbox yeah, I guess so. Always difficult to decide if the issue is related to that though. I am usually too cowardly to vtc such questions

@JacobVlijm Did you know that 16.04.2 was postponed because of boot issues ? That's why dev versions are off-topic ... generally I'm very careful when it comes to VTC (as everyone knows here) ... :)

Ah, with that knowledge, we have a good reason to close @cl-netbox

@cl-netbox ah that is always great fun!

@Zanna closing questions? (kidding)

8:36 AM
@JacobVlijm yes, exactly ... and when 16.04 has the issue, then 17.04 will most probably have it even more ... :)

done

@JacobVlijm good

@JacobVlijm nah late accepts :)

@Zanna I was talking about this answer -> askubuntu.com/questions/727452/… @JacobVlijm ! Yesterday it was accepted ... after ONE year ! :)

8:52 AM
can we please flag this as NAA and get rid of it ?askubuntu.com/a/880338/295286 k thx bai

9:11 AM
@Serg no, go sleep!

@JacobVlijm engineers don't sleep >:)
although I'm not doing anything related to engineering

9:29 AM
@muru question: why is this one closed as off topic ? unix.stackexchange.com/q/342769/85039 Ubuntu is on topic on U&L and so is ssh, so what's the reason ?

@Serg it's given right below the post O.o
cross-posted
IIRC you were the one who commented about it on the AU post.

@muru oops . . . my eyesight is poor . . . or attention . . actually both. I originally pinged Seth and asked him to delete the cross-post from this site, but I guess it makes more sense to delete the one on U&L instead

@cl-netbox hmm +1 to that

@Serg or both. I VTC on both, no knowing which one will get closed first

no disk left on space :)

9:42 AM
@Takkat Derp OS has segfaulted, sense not made

@Serg bath bath bath, I need to go take shower (bad = bath in Dutch)

rihgt

@Zanna Thank you ! :)

@JacobVlijm See ? I am almost ready to go to Netherlands. At least I'll know how to ask for bath . . .

You can come to Germany then too. Same word.

9:53 AM
Ja, sprechen Deutsch, verstehen nichts
I actually have a cousin who lives there somewhere . . .I always forget the city and such, because we're not exactly close, so never really paid attention
That's one of the best efforts I've seen people post spam that's made look like an actual question

Yeah, I didn't dare to add the first spam flag.
(but the 3rd or so)

Although nothing beats that guy who hid spam in one (!) character of a legitimate answer once.

I didn't dare to click that link but by the time I found out it was entirely unrelated to Ubuntu it had already popped away.
Isn't hidden spam a bit - ineffective?
If spam can not be spotted.

Not necessarily. Their links will still be indexed by search engines.

KK farming it is then.

OK, 3 AM. I gotta go get some sleep. Ya'll stay classy

@ByteCommander @Serg @Takkat @Zanna : Can I ask you for support for my new answer -> askubuntu.com/questions/880355/… I got a DV and I think it is not deserved ... please also read the comments. :)

@Serg sleep well :)

10:22 AM
@cl-netbox It kinda is, I'm afraid. You are suggesting the OP delete lines 63 and 64 from sources.list but the problem is with entry 63, which is not on line 63 (comments are not counted as entries). You also say they can exit nano with X and Y but they need Ctrl+X and Y.
Hmm, no. I'm wrong about the lines. Never mind.
Still, I agree with the commenter that it doesn't seem correct to recommend deleting a potentially useful repo.

@terdon Thanks for the hint with Ctrl ... but the everything else is correct ... I update it at once ! Thanks again terdon ! :)
@terdon Answer updated ! :)

@terdon thoughts on this?
2 hours ago, by muru
I feel this shouldn't be accepted, and the editor should post a new question: http://askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/675118 thoughts?
I checked the question later, and it seems the editor posted a bounty on it and tried to take over the post - they have already made a massive edit to it
IMO they should be posting a separate question and offering their own details, the older one closed. But the bounty complicates things.

@terdon That is more a workaround ... external repos are (and should be) located in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d folder

@WinEunuuchs2Unix well yeah exactly. Without hardware details from the bank roller, answerers can only speculate (as they are doing) — Zanna yesterday

@Zanna indeed

10:28 AM
Yeah the whole thing is a mess now :S

@muru Yeah. Although, to be fair, the original question was crap and the new one is good. it's probably better all around to have this version. It would have been simpler had they posted a new one but maybe we should allow this now that it's started and let them edit to their hearts content.

since the OP seems to have abandoned the post and the site I guess it doesn't really matter

It doesn't, it just complicates things - like I rejected the edit, others might reject subsequent edits too. The editors shouldn't have to see the bounty notice to know what's going on.

yes indeed
I would have rejected that edit too
I can't really approve this design decision on the part of the APT devs XD askubuntu.com/questions/880291/apt-get-install-with-removes

No, but it's actually better for the site to do it this way. I mean, it keeps it cleaner to use an existing question rather than posting a new one. In general, I don't mind hijacking questions like that (as long as they're old, crappy and abandoned and the hijacking improves them) it's just easier if it's done by someone with the rep to edit directly. Now they'll have to suggest edits each time they need to add something.

10:37 AM
Now I need to get another 270 rep on Lit quickly, or it's back to suggesting edits for me.

@cl-netbox Hi cl, I like you a lot. If you are seriously upset about how an answer or question is treated, nothing wrong with bringing it up here of course. I am uncomfortable however if you openly and personally request people to "support" an answer, implicitely asking for upvotes, to kind of "undo" a downvote. It puts a pressure on people to either upvote, or feel kind of rude not to. Not the best argument for voting I think.
5

@muru yay made it to public! nice!

@Zanna not yet

I couldn't find anything to ask or answer on Lit

@terdon What is your take on my argument -> chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/35248727#35248727 ? Isn't it the truth ? A not properly configured /etc/apt/sources.list file can always lead to new issues in the future - right ? :)

10:38 AM
but I am doing great in the Vegetarianism & Veganism private beta

@Zanna Same here. All my books are back home, so even if I wanted to ask something, I couldn't dig up the details needed

@cl-netbox Of course but that's a good reason to fix it, not remove the entry. Did you see Muru's answer?

@muru Hmm I saw some of your posts and they were really good. It's similar for me - most of my books are at my parents' house. But I write reviews on Goodreads, so I should have some stuff for reference. I guess either my interests are too marginal, or I'm just bad at the thinking of questions

@terdon yes of course I saw it ... but my point is to correct EVERYTHING by removing and re-adding the external source, which puts it where it belongs. :)

On the Veg private beta I already have mod tools (1k) :O

10:42 AM
@JacobVlijm Okay, got it ... seems I have chosen the wrong words ... I explicitly asked for support and not for upvote ... this was recommended to me by a mod some longer time ago. :) Although I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed ... the answer is correct ... :)

@Zanna me jealous

lol I just found your Heathcliffe question. I hated Wuthering Heights because all the characters are horrible and the whole thing is so grim

@cl-netbox thanks, no problem

@muru very handy when someone turns up and asks a whole bunch of way too-broad questions with meaningless tags as happened this morning. Very easy to get rep there though, the questions are very easy I think

@Zanna oh, Heathcliff haunted me for years

10:48 AM
I think I read the book at too early an age. I was like "why create such a grim, overwrought mood?"
But one of my friends on GR wrote a great review about how it addresses racism towards Gypsy/Roma/Traveller people and other societal prejudice, which I would never have thought of myself

It was, as the name of a soundtrack in Mass Effect 2 goes, A Rude Awakening
From the cheerful Famous Five to the Grim Heathcliff

hahahaha yes! I think I had an even more horrified response to Gone to Earth by Mary Webb. Thankfully I found Terry Pratchett and Phillip Pullman to ease me over the abyss between Roald Dahl/Enid Blyton and the Brontes
although Pullman has said something about his books like they are "too dark for adults" hahaha

Only ever read the first two books of Pullman's His Dark Materials
Got distracted before I could finish the trilogy

yeah those were the ones he was talking about I think. I read all of them and the kind-of prequel he wrote - but I only read that politely because my mum gifted it to me. By the time the 3rd one came out I was probably "too old". But I still enjoy reading YA SF&F

11:07 AM
@Zanna if you have the time, take a look at the and tags. Neither seem to be used consistently

o.O
I will, since I've finished retagging the stupid stuff on Veg

11:38 AM
someone got deleted :P

@terdon I "over-worked" and improved the answer and went a bit deeper ... please have a look (especially at the URL of the repo) -> askubuntu.com/questions/880355/… Please tell me what you think ... should the most proper solution now (I hope) ! :)

boxy!

@Rinzwind Rinzy ! :) Good morning to you ! :)

@Rinzwind Who, me?

no as a user. -10 rep

11:43 AM
me too

Had the same the other day

Got a downvote on an old post which couldn' t possibly be wrong, always fun.
Now we're starting to look like old guys, complaining about their deseases
2

@JacobVlijm no ... not fun at all ... compensated (even though you didn't ask for support) ! :)

@cl-netbox now you make me feel like a horrible person :)

@JacobVlijm Why ? Don't understand ... :)

11:50 AM
....Which I am of course
This is us:
@cl-netbox just kidding :)

@JacobVlijm okay ... I translate it as "Thanks" :)

@cl-netbox which is correct :)

Tim Post lost his keys again

@JacobVlijm I always try to improve my posts and that's why I mentioned my concerns about my newest one ... please have a look at it ... I think it is the nearly perfect solution now ... even though it competes with muru's answer ... hahaha :D
Thank you @muru ! :)

12:06 PM
Thanking him for edit? Hate to say it cl but I like his answer better on that thread :(

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Why not ? I am a friendly person ! :) and no problem that you like his answer more ... :)

12:20 PM
@Zanna rip

:)
how are you? it's been a while!

I have a cold again
came out of nowhere

@Zacharee1 @TheXed gave you a cold last night... he's infected.

I got it Saturday morning

that sucks, sorry to hear :(
eat lots of healthy things and get well soon

12:23 PM
thanks
I did make my first SystemUI mod though, which was fun
still trying to figure out how to edit the layout XMLs without everything breaking

awesome!
I think I saw you mention it, but my mind was elsewhere, probably on okra stew or something

okra is weird :p

okra is wierd

true. Delicious though :D kind of like mushrooms which are very weird and even a bit spooky imho

especially if you undercook it

12:25 PM
oh that is an unfortunate occurence

maybe I've had it undercooked...
cause I don't like it

understandable

@Zacharee1 I wish you the best to get rid of it soon ! :)

thanks

You're welcome ! :)
