Q: How do I create a script file for terminal commands?

SethIn Windows I can write a file containing commands for cmd (usually .cmd or .bat files). When I click on those files it will open cmd.exe and run them commands the file contains. How would I do this in Ubuntu? I'm sure this is a duplicate, but I can't find my answer. Its similar to these que...

Q: WordPress high Steal time on Linux Ubuntu 16.04.1

HashimI have a dynamic Wordpress website with multiple plugins, installed over an AWS EC2 t2.micro Instance with a Linux Ubuntu 16.04. At some point of working on the admin panel on different occasions, the website becomes extremely slow. I Installed netdata here for an easier way of monitoring the CP...

@Zacharee1 I've never heard anyone British actually say "good sir" outside of period drama

@Seth intersting question there. Don't mind me adding an answer to it ?

@Serg I can't stop you :P
Haha @Rinzwind ;P

How to copy folder to other folder - not the contents of the folder, the folder itself.
e.g. blablah foo/bar spam/ should make a foo folder in spam/

6:14 PM
@Seth :D
rename the folder :P
or use mv :)

man, I'm watching the Hillary vs Trump debate, I'm feeling so sorry for the guy that asks the questions
looks like a high school debate so far, no respect for the time, for the other candidates speaking time or even for the host asking for them to shut up

I really don't understand how they added switches to menu in bluetooth indicator
I've read the code, but menu building method is just . . . too simple
and only label is added there

where is the code? I think you need to add a container in the menu and then add the radio buttons
but I'm not sure, on my indicators I've only added labels, submenus and menu divisors

I've already tried that. I tried adding Gtk.Box, then adding stuff to it.

are you using gtk 3?

6:23 PM
I'm going off this askubuntu.com/q/16431/295286
Yes, Gtk 3
It suggests that over Dbus you can only send very very limited menu

was kind of a stupid question because I think gtk 2 supports radio menus too, but I found this
not sure what the python wrapper calls it, but try to look for some Gtk.RadioMenuItem
wow, that's exactly what they are called! lol

I did do this :
self.item = gtk.RadioMenuItem("Hello")
But it displays as regular menu item, no radio , nothing

it takes more arguments
I think
you need a group and a label

@IanC actually no ! It works.
It has set a nice little dot next to it
i had to click on it

does python overrides the method construction if you use less arguments then the original one requires?
because the pygtk reference gives that constructor gtk.RadioMenuItem(group=None, label=None, use_underline=True), so it might be working, but you would be giving a label where you should give a group
in C I think you pass NULL in the group parameter if it's the first Radio button you're creating

6:34 PM
same in Python :P

go to file:////
its cool

no I refuse

URL : file:////

Just shows root directory, nothing exceptional

Well, I think its an alternative for Nautilus :P
No, scratch it

6:37 PM
@IanC well, you are looking at pygtk. What I use is slightly different , gi.repository.Gtk
As for arguments, you have to pass all of them
at least i do so in custom functions
if i miss one, it complains

Which is better in terms of security Signal or Telegram ?
On android

best security is no internet at all

@Serg oh sorry, didn't know there was another wrapper :p
could you find the RadioMenuItem on gi.repository.Gtk docs?

@Serg mail that to Panda please

sigh . . . this is fun but also frustrating
@jokerdino done, yessir

6:40 PM
Thank you, kind sir.

Q: VNC client stuck

David VosI used "Desktop Sharing" to enable VNC on my machine, I connect to it via "Remmina Remote Desktop Client" on another PC. I connect to the server, click on "Allow", and my screen shows up fine on the other PC. However, it does not change... it's frozen. I can, however, see the mouse moving and I c...

someone explain that relation to me please.
and
@DavidCole-GrammarPolice no: if sudo is installed but not correctly configured (like in many Ubuntu installations) and the malware gets the password of a "non-root" user, it can execute administrative actions and infect the system. All users enabled to have total root access by using sudo should protect their own password with the same security of a root password, because it can be used to execute a command with root privileges. This means that it can infect and harm the system. — Lorenzo Ancora 1 min ago
1st sentence cant be true :P

Not sure how exactly he wants to misconfigure sudo that badly...

that's what I was thinking :P

It's a fair point that users with sudo power can be targeted.

@ByteCommander how's the testing of brightness setter ?

6:52 PM
But not correctly configured? I've seen no config issues with base install.

@ByteCommander :=D
@KazWolfe sure. physical access too/

@Serg not yet.
Tomorrow maybe.
I have the whole week to award the bounty, no hurries :)

@ByteCommander translation: He wants you to sweat.

HUH!!??

And so you have as little time as possible to fix the script.

6:57 PM
There was just a strange sound output...

@ByteCommander yes. i convinced Shog to give my pings a unique noise

Good evening.

you'd rather a fiery swoosh as I appear in a pillar of energy from the skies and land on the ground? :P

7:00 PM
@ByteCommander Not worried about bounty, just checking up on the customer :) That's how good customer service is done. Also "Agile" programming methodology. Communication with the customer is above everything

Note the thin border between service and spam... ;-)

@ByteCommander is that better? :)

If I was sending you 35 messages per day, that'd be spam ;) So far you got just one

@Rinzwind Yup. :D Just why do you prefer backticks over command substitution?

eh

@Rinzwind i know, right ? Them saudi princes and princesses keep sending spam emails that they need money to collect money. What's up with that ?

Q: Why can't I send messages with the wall command?

ichbinallenI'm trying to send messages with either wall or write. To test this, I opened two gnome-terminal windows. Then entered the following in one window: me@host>>wall message to everyone <ctrl> + d When I finished the message I send an interrupt signal (ctrl-d) to send. Instead of sending the ...
