I'm having a hard time deciding on a camera...

12:43 AM
@Zacharee1 lel "You want to run Windows programs in Windows by running them under Wine under Bash?"

12:54 AM
maakes sense

1:11 AM
Inception at its finest.
That exceeds even nested virtualization when it comes to awesome points.

@NathanOsman feel free to chip in :P askubuntu.com/questions/816933/…

1:32 AM
@edwinksl but, like, why

Arg. SourceForge is down.
Remind me again why they are still relevant?
Bonus points - their "status dashboard" is down too.

2:04 AM
@anwar I'm back

2:40 AM
SMB on OS X. Ugh...

2:57 AM
Chat died?
It was gone for a few moments there.

it was fine for me. just quiet as usual on a thurs night :D

It wasn't loading for a few minutes there.

2 hours later…
4:54 AM
I JUST LOVE INSOMNIA

5:11 AM
@JamesTobin are you there still?
How do I find a question recently gone from featured tab?
I found a solution for it

Use your history function?

like this one
people keep saying, You can install multiple DEs and it's just same as using 1 DE based dist
which is totally wrong.
@Zacharee1 Thank you. found it :)
this question bountied and tweeted
@jokerdino hi!

5:39 AM
hi

yay! \o/ it works for another question!

@Anwar thanks for your comments on the systemd question :) I can't find a service my system considers non-critical enough to allow me to mask, if that's the reason
I might end up asking a question about it. I have spent a looooonnnng time reading

good. i can learn something i wanted to learn without spending much time

hehe :)

Q: A Distro project built on Ubuntu, but way out there from what is known today

SpencerDTo the editors! I am looking for some bored programmers. Forgive me, I miss DOS, and I am hopelessly lost in qbasic. I've messed with C++ recently and I find it horribly different :( anyways... Omnios. This is an OS proper, built on the kernel, but with a different plan. Methinks that there ca...

7:45 AM
I found some services I can mask & unmask after all
What's the easiest way to find out what module your touchpad uses?

I'd guess lsusb or lshw?
assuming its working now

neither of those shows it, checked already, and yes it's working
I know the module on my own device, I'm trying to help someone else
I can sort of find it by reading /proc/bus/input/devices to get a clue and then doing ls (find /lib/modules/4.4.0-34-generic -type d -name "mouse") and matching the information from the first to one of the options in the second, with a bit of imagination, but that's a bit awkward
can't get anything to just give me the line "touchpad blah blah kernel thing in use: elan_i2c.ko"

8:14 AM
ah
that actually smells like a right way to do it.

haha thanks :)
grep -iA 2 touchpad /proc/bus/input/devices... I guess it's not bad
well gradually I am beginning to understand systemd and its mysteries... I think I know why I can't unmask a masked service

8:34 AM
Gaaaaah, i can't remember a song . . . . . i remember the tune, but not the name . . . .so i can't find it . . .

that always happens for me
once I was dumb enough to search YouTube for a song I didn't know the name of based on a snippet of the lyrics which was "sexy girl" >_<

^_^''' yeah, the search results probably were more than just songs

loool
that sorta thibg happens to me a lot. Finding songs by snippets of lyrics that is

Let's just say the search results were not what I wanted

Well, this one is in Japanese . . . and I don't speak Japanese yet . . .

8:38 AM
oh, that's worse
search history?

It's been forever ago , i don't think it's in my history anymore
I think i know the artist name . . . . but not 100% sure

BenedictusI need docker networking capabilities, which are only supported in 1.9+ version, but the best I can get on my Ubuntu 14.10 server is 1.7 I tried installing by hand as described here, also via docker script wget -qO- https://get.docker.com/ | sh

where are the tray icons in Unity?

@Zanna you need their location ?
There's /usr/share/icons/

8:55 AM
@Zanna do you have chrome installed ?

no I don't use proprietary stuff if at all avoidable...
I don't wanna answer that question, just give a clue shrug

I already gave, left a comment there

oh thanks :)

dammit where's that song

hums the tune unhelpfully

9:11 AM
noon

Hi, Anwar

hi serg!

That's always fun!

Nooooooooooooo
frustrating ...

@Anwar Just leave a comment saying "If my answer has solved your problem please leave an upvote" Something along these lines

9:14 AM
Remember that new users can't vote.

Serg, did it. hope they won't leave the question.
the OP wasn't that new. anyway, I better forget it :)

@Anwar True. On the other hand, they said they'd test your answer and get back to you. That seems reasonable. They shouldn't upvote, let alone accept, before they know whether it works.

Breathe deeply...

@terdon Oh. good point :)
mod magic in work i guess

gosh, there's tons of anime songs. I cannot find the one

9:17 AM
@Anwar Not really :). You said you left a comment, so I just looked at your recent comments (those are accessible to everyone) and located the answer.

oh. I didn't know comments are accessible for everyone

Yup
Well, not sure about 2012 - 13 , but they changed profiles a year ago or so , so now there is "all actions" menu there

I see... thank you

It's actually pretty useful if I wanna locate a post where i commented but dont recall the name

yeah. I leave a comment when I can't favorite a question

9:26 AM
:31919811 Pretty sure it was, yes. I've been active on SE since 2012 and I always remember them being accessible.

@Terdon thank you :) That means either I forgot it or was too lazy to explore all settings

Yeah, it's hidden in the user page tabs. It's easy enough to miss.

fair point

@grooveplex somehow I doubt my question on security se will get many more answers . There's still 2 days till bounty expires . . .

this and this are duplicate of each other i think

9:47 AM
what do you guys think?
i wanna apply , doesn't seem like they have too high requirements

@Serg If you like it, I would apply. Doesn't seem like a very exciting job though, Could be that you get bored :)

@JacobVlijm Eh, my previous job wasn't exactly exciting either. Right now I'd love to find something to put on resume as "relevant experience" and get some money :/ Insurance would be nice too

@Serg Then I think you are better capable of doing the job than some administrators I know :)

@Serg Applying is always good in my opinion

@Serg just a heads up, -exec du -c {} + won't work either. I don't think you can do this with find.

10:07 AM
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in body, bad keyword in title, link at end of body, pattern-matching website in body: Get Slim And Shaped Figure With Exoslim Garcinia Combogia by bresahouk on askubuntu.com

@terdon yes, that one wont work. That's why i use \; , I just run du on per-file basis

@Serg Fair enough. The + was my first thought, that's why I mentioned it.

I think this question is a dupe . . .I recall some time ago me and kos we're figuring similar thing out

Yeah, it does seem familiar.

gosh i can't find anything tonight , not even related dupe

10:16 AM
Anyone knows what happened with Kos btw? He disappeared at once.

No one knows , really

oh. found him in AU by searching kos in question.
He's mentioned in multiple answers :)

yeah, he was one of the top command-line question answerers
We got command-line gold tag about the same time :/

I see.
congrats for them!

...Feel kind of sorry, I liked the way he worked here

10:22 AM
he can be contacted via launchpad i saw.

Yeah, he was definitely one of the top guys here

@Serg his profile shows command-line silver!

@ParanoidPanda here's another version of Yoshiwara Lament, by Yurica , she's pretty famous online singer : youtube.com/watch?v=eEBNbJ4bk_8
@Anwar yeah, because after the great purge a lot of people lost rep and with rep we lost badges
i lost mine too
But I'm about to get it back soon . . . .soooooon . . . .. :p

you didn't contact SE?

It's a bit more complicated than that

10:29 AM
i see...
how do i override an environment variable in graphical session without logging out?
is there a way?

What variable ?

a qt variable QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE

Ah . . . You could do something line $ QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE="new value" my_program
so pre-pend new variable value to the program

I know. I can't do it for whole session right?
for example it's set already in my KDE session
I can run individual application using your suggested method.
but I want to remove it from session

No, I don't think there's a way to do that

10:35 AM
Ok. thanks.
apt complains about weak hash algorithm. how do you create stronger key using sha256? I didn't get any option in gpg.

11:09 AM
well, what shall i do? stay up or should i go get more sleep? i slept whole day yesterday though

I found this one about gpg helpful ekaia.org/blog/2009/05/10/creating-new-gpgkey
you can sleep :)

sleep is a bit problematic topic for me, my clock is up side down unlike most people

my internal clock almost cracked!

11:49 AM
just got a notice of a 4th company infected by a cryptolocker :D

12:11 PM
hey @anwar
I'm up at a hotel :)

12:56 PM
Hello everybody ! :)

hey

@Serg : Congratulations my friend ! :) You've made it into the international press -> omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/08/… ... well done - really well done ! :)

@JamesTobin Hi ! :)

welcome!

Hello ppl! Quick question. Is it worth replacing a HDD in a laptop? Or a new laptop is the way forward?
Mine just died today

@luchonacho depends on how old your laptop is ... Hi ! :)

12:59 PM
this is an opportunity to change to a SSD

@cl
@cl-netbox 3 years.

@lunchonacho replace every wd with seagate

@edwinksl you mean a new laptop with SSD?

@luchonacho If everything else is okay you can replace the HDD ... it is way cheaper than a new notebook ! :) But I would recommend to replace it with a SSD ! :)

@luchonacho nope i mean keep everything the same and just swap the HDD for a SSD

1:02 PM
Mmm, interesting. Never heard of SSD nor seagate
Having in mind that I've never opened a laptop, could I change it myself?
(can't find embarrassment emoticon)

Have you never heard about SSD (Solid State Disk)?

@Orphans :(

@luchonacho replacing disks is easy ... open the laptop ... the disk should be fixed with one or two screws ... :)

I do not understand spanish thou, but you should be able to find a SSD there

@Orphans ahahahah nice. thnks. I'm in the UK atm.

1:11 PM
@luchonacho
Alright, visit this link instead

@Orphans omg! they are as expensive as a new laptop! store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/List.aspx?sel=ACC&ctrl=f

@cl-netbox lol someone just wrote 3 answers based on that link :P someone really likes serg's stuff

@ParanoidPanda in case you're into nu-metal style of music, like korn and slipknot, check these guys out. youtu.be/7EBGGosuNTI Russian band, Amatory.

@Orphans but I need an internal SSD, not an external one.

@edwinksl unbelievable ... who does something like this ? hopefully they place a reference to @Serg ? ? ?

1:13 PM
@luchonacho well, if you buy a 500GB.
@luch
the link I sent is an internal SSD

@cl-netbox don't think he/she did that, probably didn't know our own @Serg wrote it :P

haaaaa
and he even posted a link to omgubuntu article

@Serg Hello famous man ... SIR ! :D

Not exactly famous, but hello
:)
I knew it's going to show up in omgubuntu eventually

@Orphans Thanks. Will take a look. Did you recommend Samsung for any reason or it's the one that just came up?

1:17 PM
How did they even find me though ?

@edwinksl Sadly, they're not actually answers. They just give a link to Serg's github page.

@Serg without any joke ... you really did a great job with that thingie ! :)

@cl-netbox thanks. It was really fun to make it too

@Serg : You even made it into a PPA -> webupd8.org/2016/08/switch-between-multiple-lists-of-apps.html !!! :)

Yeah, @Serg since those three questions are now closed in favor of this one (thanks, by the way, @JacobVlijm), you might want to post an answer showcasing your script.

1:21 PM
@Serg as I always say : one of the greatest scripters of AU ... our Serg ! :)

@terdon yeah, that's probably a good idea, before people start spamming with more links. . . . .

Hi terdon ! :) Good afternoon ! :)

@luchonacho Well, you can take a look at vendors like Adata, Kingston, Crucial etc. I do have a Samsung SSD in one of my laptops but I can't the any performance difference between the vendors actually. I sent the link to a samsung SSD because I thought that you would recongnize the name of it, and therefore feel more secure about the answer I provided

Hey cl-netbox

@Orphans Clear then! thanks! will try that.

1:25 PM
@terdon the link however asks different question from what my indicator does though. There's another question that may be more suitable for my indicator.
anyway, I'll figure this out in a minute

@Serg Hmm. Yes, I guess you're right.

HA, I found Ian

1:51 PM
@terdon you're welcome! I ran into it.

boxy!
stop stuffing feathers up serg >:-D

OK, I've added an answer to this : askubuntu.com/q/118332/295286
@Rinzwind What else I could stuff up ? I've ran out of snacks :D

@Serg excellent post to post it on.

2:07 PM
@JacobVlijm yup, that post is quite suitable for what OP asks. Pity is that OP won't come back to accept any post there

@Serg cannonballs!

@Serg ...but it still is the best answer to the question, it will gain it's votes

2:20 PM
omg people already discussing it with fiery passion in the comments

lol that comes with popularity

@Serg if that is your audience I wish you luck >:-D

^_^ ' ' '
It's just the way people work - some like one set of features, others don't

2:35 PM
You might consider making a PPA or something

yeah, that would be good . . . I need to learn to make deb packages and PPAs first

@jokerdino wait i just noticed you are back to the one and only jokerdino (even with the correct avatar)

@edwinksl lol I actually had a dino-joker gravatar before this one.
@Serg unpack webupd8 PPA and figure it out?

@Serg how do i run it? double clicking did nothing. from terminal a blank screen

@Anwar are you on Unity first of all ?

2:41 PM
yeah. of course!
lol

Are you using Ubuntu really?

OK, so from the directory you're in, run this command : python3 launcher-list-indicator
It will start

@jokerdino why the doubt?

Did you turn your computer on?

@Anwar by the way, did you allow running the file as application from the right click menu in the file manager ?

2:43 PM
nah. I'm using it without turning on

@Anwar Thought so!

Good
nothing appeared!
I've installed several DE here. may be that's creating problem.

This article gave me a good idea . . .I might want to add a way to refresh the config file
Just in case anyone needs inspiration, here's some jacksepticeye youtube.com/watch?v=BJPc49z57bU

3:01 PM
Every few weeks I get a private email from someone asking if I can backport CMake 3.5 to Trusty.
I practically have a pre-written response now :P

@NathanOsman are you even the maker of CMake ?
Speaking of weird emails, a few days a go there was a guy asking me for work, basically he listed shiz ton of programming languages there
That's the text ^

"I would like to talk with you in detail about the project in Skype."
"Nope, if you use Skype, I am not talking with you."

@Rinzwind so, how do you want me to make it work for each workspace ? I am just currious what's your vision there

@Serg no, just a maintainer of one of the most popular CMake PPAs.

oh, that explains it

3:15 PM
If the questions keep up, maybe I will try to backport some of the dependencies.
It all boils down to time.

3:32 PM
hello everyone :)

Hi

hi

Hi :) nice avatar

thanks

@SeverusTux long time no see

3:40 PM
yeah :) holidays...studies...projects...
nice to see you all :)

3:57 PM
@SeverusTux good to see you back in action

what did I miss ?
thanks :)
actually.. not much action
;P
Using only arch Linux from past 2 months. so.. less questions to ask and less answers..
@edwinksl

the area 51 proposal for arch is dead btw

:( yeah

@SeverusTux you missed my indicator for Unity :D

what indicator ? link..

4:00 PM

Ohwwow...
on OMGUbuntu!
nice :) congratulations

and on webupd8 too !
thanks
I'm really excited abou this

wow! ppa... nice

@SeverusTux well, not mine. It belongs to webupd8 owner. But eventually I'll make my own
so far i only have github

I wish I gets selected to main repos
defaults
*It
webupd8 is well trusted. Could you please give me link to source code ? @Serg

4:10 PM
@SeverusTux sure, here it is github.com/SergKolo/launcher-list-indicator
sorry, i am having breakfast :D

@serg when you change viewport change launcher to a new launcher. Nothing fancy

Hi Rinzy :)

@Rinzwind and you want it to have a specific profile to be assigned to specific viewport ?

Hey on mobile at sushi restaurant

i mean, profile from indicator . . .
@Rinzwind cuz jacob already has this . . . askubuntu.com/a/608295/295286

4:19 PM
@serg hnmm you could match workspace name probably?
-- viewport :P

Yeah, im thinking of making like a menuentry where you like connect each profile to viewport , click OK , and it will run
it should call a GUI with drop down boxes

Is it possible to switch from a gesture? That would be even more universal

@Rinzwind what do you mean by gesture ?
I can make scroll action. Middle click action is already taken for "save current"

Like go left up right with mouse and the it would go to the next launcher

eh . . . never seen anything like this done, so probably no

4:23 PM
@Rinzwind sushi again lol

Every week @edwinksl

@Rinzwind good stuff
you are truly a sushi fanatic

Na the view is very good
3 sisters run it

I see
@Rinzwind hopefully 3 Japanese sisters?

INope Chinese

4:26 PM
it is rare to see a lot of japanese running japanese restaurants outside japan
it is almost invariably the chinese

Yes and Koreans

Mmmm, i approve

Japanese consider it an insult working in a restaurant in Europe

Really? Someone upvoted a Windows question here? askubuntu.com/q/817160/231142

Is there anywhere a Japanese town like China town? Or Korea town?

4:30 PM
@Rinzwind San Francisco has a Japantown
New York City has a Koreatown

There commented
If
SF has one? Cool

yup my favorite part of SF

When I go back to SF, I am going to have to visit that. Especially take my oldest son since he is infatuated with Japanese culture. =)

I watch anime daily . All the fantasy and sci-fi series at least

Anime is cool. When I was younger it was Robotech (Harmony Gold version) that got me into it. =)

4:34 PM
@Terrance :) think you and your kids will like it. to be clear, it is not super immersive, but it has a lot of jap things and food

very tired of day's work

@edwinksl Cool! Thank you for the advice! =)

I started with the gutter and Laura
Eh

Denver supposedly used to have large Japanese community but i don't see it. There's lots of Chinese and Korean folks. Vietnamese are like 3rd most common group.

Wtf
A k I r a
It automatically changed that to Laura

4:36 PM
@MuditKapil come relax with us
@Rinzwind and that's why i dont use autocorrect

@Terrance then again, if you are going to be in SF, then you could also fly across the pacific and visit japan itself :P

@edwinksl Good point! :) Probably cheaper for me to visit SF though. ;)

@Rinzwind so is it OK if we do it as scroll action ? hover over indicator and scroll , it will go to next profile with each scroll

4:58 PM
@SeverusTux Hello my friend - nice to see you ... has been some time since I saw you here ... in case you wanna use the indicator from @Serg - ask him to rewrite it for arch ... :)

@Serg maybe we should merge the lswitcher and your launcher profiler into a new launchpad project?

@JacobVlijm that could be a thing :)
@A.B. hey, good friend ! Nice seeing you in chat again
@cl-netbox it doesn't have to be arch - as long as the user has Unity, it will work :)

@A.B. \o

5:28 PM
@Serg @Terrance \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/

@A.B. Welcome back! =)

Thx @Terrance :)
How are you guys?

@A.B. I am doing well. Just working away! :) How are you?

great, I love my job :)
and Docker is greaaaaaaat =)

@A.B. Yeah, Docker is pretty cool. I've used it a bit on my raspberry, nothing fancy though

5:38 PM
In the meantime I have three servers, one is only a docker registry.

Not using Docker yet, but I am really wondering if I need it.

I have dockerized postgres, mariadb, moodle, gitlab, wordpress, humhub and so on
GitLab is the CI system
hey and mediadrop, mediagoblin :)

Sigh . . . . People apparently like monochrome icons for some reason
I'll probably add an option to let them use their own icon

@Serg link?

@A.B. to what?

5:48 PM
your app :)
> I'll probably add an option to let them use their own icon

@A.B.
I've more apps there, check my full profile

@A.B. yes, I still haven't finished it. It basically will be a click app. Middle click once, launches one app, middle click twice - launches another

6:54 PM
afternoon!
