7:03 PM
i have something interestingly evil going on to charge my one battery pack

pics or it didn't happen

one charges the other, while charging itself on the backup power supply for my servers :/
i'd show you the setup for my phone charging,but i'm not going to
probably because if i move my phone right now it'll burn everything.
(frayed exposed wires are evil)
anyways, how's everyone doing

@KazWolfe

@terdon haha rage-close the AU tab before I break something

oh those poor souls that made the mistake of uninstalling python.
@Seth If I could I would
python is too venemous

erm ... Pythons carry no venom

@ByteCommander Django question actually

7:35 PM
:-/

7:48 PM
@Zanna woah transcription

@edwinksl aww it's nice when someone notices ;) <3
can anyone make sense of this answer? askubuntu.com/questions/476444/…

@Zanna without more details on what they were compiling, I'd guess that there's a configuration file called machine_cfg.py which they provided details in, hence their answer

hmmm... idk what to do with this question... is it any use?

@Windows3.1 Hey, how's it going?
Just got back in from a trip in the snow.
It's cold out there.

@NathanOsman i'm back

./

@Serg u no longer admin???? you are not shaded blue..

10:06 PM
。/

@Windows3.1 Serg was never a mod...

oh my mistake

You're confusing me with Seth
Seth is a mod, i'm a regular user

@NathanOsman my flash drive is toasted (I think(
@Serg possibly

Uh-oh.
What happened to it?

10:08 PM
@NathanOsman if I format it I cant mount it, and windows cant format it at all
er brb

Anybody have an idea why Win10 would fail to renew IP address from DHCP ?

kback

@Windows3.1 is it relatively new?

@Serg because it sucks lol
@NathanOsman it's a lexar
fairly new

@Serg git gud pleb

10:09 PM
My mom's Win10 laptop drops down to 169.254.x.x address

up to 1 yr old

@Zacharee1 I'll git gud when the next mod election comes around

git gud???????????????

I have a Lexar flash drive from around 2004-ish. 256 MB.

orly @Serg

10:09 PM
@NathanOsman this cant be more than a year old.

It was $100 at the time.

32 gb drive
@NathanOsman yikes lol

-.-
you need to be "gud" before the election

lol

If it's new and it was working before, I'd be hesitant to diagnose it as bad flash chips.

10:10 PM
ya rly . . . . well maybe . . . I'm still not quite sure if I would have enjoyed being a mod. I'm more of answerer type of guy

@Seth here's one election rule that you all should agree with: think about what really matters, the most important things. get beyond personality/taste.

What is the output of dmesg when you connect the drive?

also in other news . . . cleared 37k today

@Serg cool

10:14 PM
@Windows3.1 okay, so it looks like it's not an electronics problem.
What are you formatting it with?

@NathanOsman it doesnt work on any computer
(or server) ;)

Do you have a CD-ROM drive on that computer?

@NathanOsman yeah
@NathanOsman 3 of them

So here's a relevant line from the log:

@NathanOsman this is a server about the height of a 3 year old lol

10:16 PM
GPT:partition_entry_array_crc32 values don't match: 0xa2a40945 != 0xab54d286
GPT: Use GNU Parted to correct GPT errors.

@NathanOsman omg lol

Looks like a corrupted partition table.

`what ive been doing all along
I've rewrote part table constantly

What are you using to do that?

gparted
/me tries again
right click partition on gparted mount is greyed out
formatted GPT with a fat32 partition

10:20 PM
Let me see...
Have you tried "Device->Create Partition Table"?

@NathanOsman yes yes

(In gparted)

@NathanOsman I've done that half a gazillion times

Are you confident that you got this flash drive from a reputable source? I once had a Corsair flash drive that turned out to be a cheap knock-off. It claimed to be 32 GB when I plugged it in but was actually only 10 GB or so and threw all sorts of errors.

yeah
I cant remember whether i got it form walmart bestbuy or staples
but both of those are reputable. I did not get it online.

10:23 PM
Hmm...

Looks like askubuntu.com/q/859266/367990 and askubuntu.com/q/859271/367990 are pretty much the same question by the same user. Might any moderator please look into it?

@NathanOsman this has worked very well for me in the past

Can you see it in Disk Management in Windows?

@NathanOsman nothing works on iwndows disk management
@NathanOsman on windows 2000 (the newest I got)

Is it a USB 2.0 drive?

10:25 PM
@NathanOsman either 2 or 3, I don't know

Does Windows 2000 work with USB 3.0 controllers?

@NathanOsman I've rewritten the partition table probably 300 times on that device in it's life lol
@NathanOsman dunno, there are no ports that support usb 3.0 on the windows 2000
@NathanOsman it sees the device tho
@NathanOsman just everything is greyed out

Oh. That's odd.
You might want to check the Event Viewer then.

I don't understand event viewer

It might be able to shed some light on what's going on.

10:27 PM
I quit windows b4 I got that deep into it lol

Well, I can help walk you through it.

ok
keep in mind I'll have to be walking back and forth lol
the windows 2000 is not connected to the internet

That's okay.

it's booting

I'll fire up my XP virtual machine. It will be nearly the same.

10:28 PM
@NathanOsman ok

So first, you're going to go to Control Panel and then Administrative Tools.
Then launch Event Viewer.

@NathanOsman back
@NathanOsman next?

Now double-click "system" on the left.

Anytime you see something in the list with the red "X", double-click it.
That will open another dialog describing the error.

10:32 PM
there's only a "system log"

Also, the "Source" column will tell you what generated the event.
So you can use this to filter the events.

@NathanOsman am I supposed to try to format the disk first or just have it plugged int?
*in

@Windows3.1 Oh, yes, I forgot.
You will need to plug it in.

I plugged it in b4 i booted is that fine?

Then go back to event viewer and go to "Action -> Refresh".
@Windows3.1 That's fine but you can just pull it out and reinsert it again to generate the errors again.
(Hopefully.)

10:34 PM
@NathanOsman ok
yah ok
@NathanOsman there's lots of warnings about disk

The descriptions in those will be useful in figuring out what the problem is.

how am I supposed to transfer them?
possibly floppy drive

One sec.

this PC is not on the interenet
@NathanOsman I have an idea, I could get windows 98 laptop and then I could manually copy it right from here because it's mobile

10:36 PM
@NathanOsman is windows 98 similar enough

Click that button to copy it to the clipboard.
@Windows3.1 No, it is not.

@NathanOsman oh

Win9x doesn't have an event viewer.

@NathanOsman then I'll have to put to floppy drive
@NathanOsman hang on :D

10:48 PM
@NathanOsman the floppy disk is having a cardiac arrest hang on

wow. floppy disk.
ancient tech by today's standards

@ThomasWard *any :p

@Zacharee1 25 years ago it was cutting edge.
so, ancient tech by today's standards.

@ThomasWard it's thin, floppy plastic. It ain't cuttin any edges

@NathanOsman there it's working now. I need to find my usb floppy drive yet :)

10:49 PM
@ThomasWard :D

Interesting.

@ThomasWard ancient technology is an upgrade. computers have only gotten worse and so has software.
@ThomasWard try my windows 3.1 on 8 mb of ram 386 you'll be suprised how fast it runs

The paging errors are likely unrelated unless you have buffered I/O set for removable disks.

@Windows3.1 Try my Linux laptop with 16GB of RAM vs. the same laptop running Windows.
Linux > Windows.
yay Smokey hasn't blown up lately :)

10:57 PM
@ThomasWard by the way I'm on 32 gb ram at the moment

I... don't think Windows 3.1 can utilize 16 GB of RAM.

@ThomasWard windows 3.1 outperforms linux by far, unfortunately it wont work with todays internet and games

I doubt it can even format 16 GB of storage.

@NathanOsman but it can utilize 8 mb of ram!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway @NathanOsman I'm going to get a new flash dr.\
@NathanOsman unless you can figure a fix
;)

I can't think of anything.

11:00 PM
@NathanOsman ok thanks tho :D

No problem.

11:48 PM
@NathanOsman I'm back and I got 2 new flash drives usb 2.0 32 gb :D

I got a 32GB microSD for Christmas last year :D @Windows3.1

@MarkYisri I'm not a fan of those micro sd's they are too easy to lose :o
