@NathanOsman Ooo. Fanceh :)
BTW, C++ this is equivalent to Python's self, correct?

@RPiAwesomeness Yes.
Two things to keep in mind: (1) you don't need it to refer to class members within member functions (2) it's a pointer, so you'll need to use this->member and not this.member.

Q: How to lists all users who logged in on a specific day using grep and last

user132604Hey I'm new to Linux and I'm using Ubuntu right now. However I need to answer this question: Write a command or sequence of commands that lists all users who logged in on a monday by using last and grep

2:33 AM
@Mateo hmm?
The button should work whether the screen is on or not. The post even says it lights up, but just doesn't do anything.

Oh, is chat back?
It was down for a few minutes there.

@NathanOsman well . . . it doesn't make sense to post that on stackexchange site, if people from Peru wont be able to see it in Peru

I just realized I probably don't need to actually include the "Bcc" email field in the message if nobody is supposed to see it anyway.

What was bcc again ?

BCC = blind carbon copy
It means that a copy of the email will be sent to someone else but the original recipient won't know that a copy was sent.
Whereas with CC (carbon copy), the original recipient will know who received a copy.

In the Internet addressing architecture, a private network is a network that uses private IP address space, following the standards set by RFC 1918 for Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), and RFC 4193 for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). These addresses are commonly used for home, office, and enterprise local area networks (LANs). Private IP address spaces were originally defined in an effort to delay IPv4 address exhaustion, but they are also a feature of IPv6. Addresses in the private space are not allocated to any specific organization and anyone may use these addresses without approval from...

@NathanOsman what does mx do ?

MX = mail exchange
It indicates one or more mail servers for the domain.

Then you would need to make an app that keeps in the background, and reprograms the button, something for the open store ;)

@Mateo yeah, it would be cool.
I tried looking at the UT APIs earlier today but couldn't find anything obvious about buttons.

@A.B. @Serg - Hi - as appointed yesterday I filed the bug -> bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/d-conf/+bug/1492174

Useful thing I just discovered - echo $(curl -s https://api.ipify.org) gives you your public IP.

Or just curl -s https://api.ipify.org...

3:43 PM
That doesn't include a newline character at the end, so it shows up in front of the next prompt line
I did use that initially, but using echo makes it format better
Bizarre. My desktop and Raspberry Pi both have the same public IP o_O

pretty sure you can blame NAT.
which might be slightly humorous in your case ;p

@Seth Humorous?

@RPiAwesomeness maybe ;p

My name is, apparently, popular enough I stopped worrying about it.
@ParanoidPanda themes? I don't think so.
iirc they're just images.

^
@Seth :D

user136984
Well, images can give you malware and are used quite a lot for that now...

3:55 PM
In edge cases, yes.

Still doubtful though.

If you're that worried about it you shouldn't use themes.

My earbuds should be getting here today...and I am applying for a job laying fiber optic with a local ISP

@RPiAwesomeness It's a Lenovo G510.

Nothing spectacular, didn't have as much budget as I would have liked.
@RPiAwesomeness ooh that sounds fun.

3:59 PM
Specs? Because it's still better than what I've got :P

The other local ISP that is not Comcast keeps sending us flyers about their super cheap (compared to Comcast) 40 Mbit and mentioning the fiber in the nearby city and I'm like "STAHP. You only offer 1.5 Mbit where I live. STAHP TORTURING MEEEEE."

@Seth :P
Yeah. Eventually it'll be 25 Mbit up/down for $60/month out here. Not sure when it'll hit our house. Hopefully before Comcast contract is up.
Not bad. i5+8GB RAM is nice
But what about SuperFish and that BIOS-level bug thing?

No Gbit eithernet, cheap wireless card, no backlit keyboard are the major cons, but for $450 refurbished I can't complain.

Ah.
Still.

@RPiAwesomeness Never heard of a BIOS bug. I plan on over writing the default windows install with Windows 10. That should take care of superfish.
@RPiAwesomeness It's actually an i7-4700MQ.

4:03 PM
Oh nice
Even better

If it was an i5 I would have gotten a different make/model :P

Oh, if I could spend $430 on a laptop. Accursed college/car savings take precedent unfortunately: computers.woot.com/offers/…

yeah, I almost got that.

but my previous machine was an Elitebook 8560w and I really wanted to shed a few pounds.

4:07 PM
Are they heavy?

@RPiAwesomeness eh, I can't stand 17" screens myself.
@RPiAwesomeness between 6/8 pounds.

Too big?
Whoa.

I believe the "official" measurement was 6.6 pounds, but I'm pretty sure mine weighed more than that.
Don't get me wrong, they are AMAZING machines. I dropped mine down 3 stairs and it didn't even get dented.
All the hardware is great.

lol
$9 hr base pay, 2-3 hrs/day ... not bad. It's physical work, but it's decent hours so I can still do school and might be able to put money aside for a new system.

The only downsides are the weight and finite lifespan due to tin whiskers (which is what mine finally died of)

4:11 PM
Ah
Tin whiskers being the CPU cooler heat-pipes?
Oh, nope

Metal whiskering is a phenomenon which occurs in electrical devices. Tin whiskers were noticed and documented in the vacuum tube era of electronics early in the 20th century, in equipment which used pure, or almost pure, tin solder in their production. It was noticed that small metal hairs or tendrils grew between metal solder pads causing short circuits. Metal whiskers form in the presence of compressive stress. Zinc, cadmium, and even lead whiskers have been documented. Many techniques are used to mitigate the problem including changes to the annealing process (heating and cooling), addition...

I'm sure other systems have the same problems (it's going to be there if you use tin solder) but I live with an HP tech so all the elitebooks I got to see died of this problem, making me a bit nervous about it.
@RPiAwesomeness LOL

@Seth How long did it last before that happened?

@A.B. - I already did it this afternoon -> askubuntu.com/questions/667668/…
@A.B. - what do you think - is it described clear enough and did I choose the right package in the report ?

4:18 PM
@RPiAwesomeness 3 or 4 years, irrc.

Okay, so not terrible.

It still works, it just won't charge the battery so it's pretty useless as a laptop.
@RPiAwesomeness It was already on its 2nd motherboard so if you can get it new with warranty it will last longer, if you're willing to live with HP support.

:P I see.
Well, it's still a ways off. Maybe I'll be able to get enough to buy a System76 system.

That would be pretty sweet
I would have gotten a Gazelle Pro if I could have afforded it.

Yeah.
Jeepers. $56 for a matte screen over glossy?

4:21 PM
wait really?
I could live with glossy for that :P

ikr
Now, the question would be. Is it worth the $100 extra to upgrade to an i7 over the i5

probably
I would get it with 4GB of RAM though and buy another 4GB dimm later.
$65 bucks for 1 DIMM is a bit pricey.

so I'm looking at $937.

Wonder if just getting that 500GB HDD and buying the SSD separate would be better

4:26 PM
I'd add the SSD myself.

That's what I was thinking

but I would also get the 1TB 7200rpm drive.

So base price $898 for me.
:P
That's gonna take a while.

meantime I should just get those free stickers ;p

I did that :) They're nice
I wonder if I could get student pricing...

4:27 PM
cool

Doubt it

I keep procrastinating because I'm lazy.
@RPiAwesomeness worth looking at.

It was really quite simple. Just send a self-addressed envelope and they send them back :)

now I just need to find the VM I kept my ssh and PGP keys in..
I don't want to have to recreate and add them again xD

Oh, that's an interesting idea.
