I've been using Unetbootin but it occasionally fails to create a bootable usb the way I need it to, especially with the newer versions.

It is possible to make the gnome terminal transparent.
Right click anywhere in the terminal window; select Show Menubar
Select Edit >> Profile Preferences >> Background
Select Transparent Background and drag the transparency slider according to the level of transparency required.
