3:04 AM
Okay I bought it...
Good thing I got a new job that pays more money...

Did I ever show you my case?

@TheX Woo! Fun new tech! Did you need it?
@NathanOsman No, but I remember @Mateo's. Spider webs 4 dayz

@RPiAwesomeness depends on whether you are asking me, or my wife.

Yow! Note to self, do not lean on injured knee >.<
@TheX :D
Personally, I woulda saved the money and gone for a RAM upgrade unless your case was having issues.
But to each his own :)

3:12 AM
Whoa...

The front opens up:

I have maxed my ram...

and my cpu.

3:13 AM
I am not a fan of the opening ones...
the door always seems to be in the way.

now that is a tower.

It works.
That disc in the center glows red when the HD is used.

At first I though the memory card reader was a floppy disc drive lol

No, no floppy drive.
I'll see if I can get a shot inside.

lol, this was on reddit with the caption I lost track of time while filling my water bed:

3:14 AM
LOL.

@RPiAwesomeness lol...

jrg
Anyone have MSDN Operating systems? Worth it?

I beat if they new what they where doing they could have written something for the Rpi to prevent that from happening...
MSDN OS?

@RPiAwesomeness lol
I don't sleep well on water beds..

@jrg don't know how much is it?

3:16 AM
^ my tower

@jrg and I would say no, since Windows 10 is going to be the last MS OS ever released.

jrg
@TheX $700 for however long the subscription is...

I wondered about that myself.

jrg
year. i think.

It was going to be $650 / yr. up here for me.
Or something like that.

3:18 AM
Yeah it is a year or two...

I think I saw somewhere you get $150 of Azure credits though.

@RPiAwesomeness nice! Needs more USB ports though ;p

My case
current

That's just the front. Rear has 4x USB 2.0 + 2x USB 3.0
@TheX Specs?

As you can see, it needs some dust cleaned off the fan.

3:21 AM
This is even part of the reason why CDNs exist. Users aren't patient enough to wait for light to make it to the other side of the Earth and back. — kasperd 9 hours ago
thought provoking..

CDN being?
I still want to take a BitFenix Prodigy (Orange) and get the side-panel cut and filled with a custom acrylic Ubuntu logo.

It doesn't have any USB 3 ports but my router does :P
@RPiAwesomeness CDN = Content Delivery Network

^

I was going to say distributor network.. but I guess delivery is right too.

3:22 AM
It's a set of servers that provide static content that are located in multiple geographic locations to reduce latency.
tl;dr - it makes websites faster

@jrg I wouldn't do it..
Windows 10 will be free and the last OS ever...

jrg
@TheX OK. You think I should just buy legit licenses as I need 'em them?

jrg
I need legacy stuff - 7, XP, Vista, 8.

@NathanOsman :D

3:24 AM
@jrg unless you plan on doing a large roll out.

@jrg You don't need MSDN for those.
Microsoft provides VMs with IE installed at modern.ie

jrg
@NathanOsman Yeah, but I also need to put them on the metal.
I'm testing vulnerabilities.

@jrg Oh, forget it then :P

jrg
with hypervisors.

You would have to buy 7 licenses at 100 do make it break even.

jrg
3:24 AM
i use modern.ie VMs for my IE testing. :-)

@jrg I have a full retail copy of Windows 98 SE... anywho...

jrg
@NathanOsman Hah!

I don't use it for anything but old games.
Virtually nothing runs on it.

@RPiAwesomeness my hardware is pretty archaic and needs to be upgraded...

I figured as much with that GPU

3:26 AM
iTunes never ran on 98, the last supported Firefox version was 2.x, and any executable can write to C:\Windows\System - no file permissions.

I am almost embarrassed to tell you

jrg
@NathanOsman you really should virtualize that 98SE box.

We also have a 486 with 95 installed.
@jrg You're going to get a chuckle out of this, but 98 is so old that it isn't even properly supported on most virtualization platforms.
I was only able to ever get it working properly in VMware Player.
Wouldn't run in Hyper-V or VirtualBox.

@NathanOsman we were both right!

jrg
was gonna say, VMWare would be the way to go with that.

3:28 AM
* well, it does, but not properly

jrg
Or QEMU emulation.

@jrg And I really had to dig to get my hands on the VMware guest additions ISO for 98.
@jrg That would be slooooooow.

jrg
@NathanOsman are there even 98 license key verification servers still running? lol

That was before licensing servers.

@RPiAwesomeness
amd phenom 9750 quad-core processor
8gb ddr2 sdram
Asus M2A-VM
ATI Radeon HD 4800
120gb SSD with Ubuntu
1TB Data HDD
250GB HD Windows 10

3:29 AM
They just had a key on the disc itself.

tell me if I forgot anything.

@TheX Hoo. Yeah, does kinda a need an upgrade.

@TheX Pretty similar to what I have now, except I have a Radeon R9 270 X.

8GB isn't bad, but it's DDR2
Storage is really nice though :)

Let me dig up what I have.

3:31 AM
@RPiAwesomeness I think the only thing I pad for was the Case, and the hard drives... the CPU cooler, the blue 120 mm fans, and some of the MISC cables...

Hehe. Should I post mine?
@TheX Oh, well, in that case, nice!

@RPiAwesomeness everything else was given to me or I salvaged from other computers.
Here is a pic with the side on.

- AMD A8-5600K APU (quad-core 3.6 GHz)
- ASUS F2A55-M LE
- Corsair CX750M (750 watt bronze-certified)
- Radeon R9 270 X (2 GB)
- 8 GB (1333 MHz)
- Intel 320 series 160 GB SSD
- WD Green 2 TB (7200 RPM)
Lemme know if I forgot anything.

The ASUS chipset has gigabit ethernet.
I also have an optical drive (DVD burner) but I rarely use it.

3:35 AM
Oh I have a CX650 waiting to go in..just haven't taken the time to put it in yet.
I think it is a CX650 (I can see the box but not the print from here)

The PSU is modular.
(At least mine is, hopefully yours is too.)

No Mine isn't unfortunately, i wish it where though

It didn't make that much difference for me since I've got so much plugged into it anyway.
The video card takes two really big cables on its own.
(I can never remember the names of the connectors.)

Yeah...AMD isn't terribly power efficient

Which is why I'm thankful for a good PSU :P

3:39 AM
Oh the PCI-E cable

The original PSU was 350 watt.
I don't think it would have handled all of this :P

PCI-E, yeah

@TheX did you ever consider liquid cooling?

@NathanOsman I have...but I haven't found anything I like for the price I want to pay for it.

Ah.
My GPU fan is crazy loud.

3:41 AM
Mine is too...I think that is going to be the next thing I am going to HAVE to replace

My BIOS supports running both the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU at the same time - which makes it really easy to do multi-seat on this machine.

@NathanOsman that would be awesome

I tried to +1 that then realized I wasn't on Google+

Heh, we need to add a +1 button :)

3:46 AM
Well, I got to go to sleep. \o

import sleep; sleep.activate(mode='deep')

@NathanOsman I think that is what the star is for

Oh, you mean here.
I thought you meant you tried to +1 the page on the article page.
Never mind.

Hi, everyone.
I created an application on ubuntu

3:50 AM
Oh?

It's seems to be a Memopad

Do you have a screenshot?

yes,
Wow, it's good?
The memo pad stays on top, because anchor is actived.
And it's same as Alarm clock.
@NathanOsman How do you think about it's name?
I don't have name of this software yet.

Looks pretty compact.

@NathanOsman What i'll set the name of this software? Memo or Sticky? or Alarm clock?

3:58 AM
What's wrong with Memopad?

'Post-It Notes' use to have a really cool app for Windows... I miss it.

Memopad?
@TheX Post-It Notes?

A Post-it note (or sticky note) is a small piece of paper with a re-adherable strip of glue on its back, made for temporarily attaching notes to documents and other surfaces. A unique low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive allows the notes to be easily attached, removed, and even re-posted elsewhere without leaving residue. Originally small yellow squares, Post-it notes and related products are now available in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes. Though 3M's patent ran out in 1997, the term "Post-it" is not genericized. It and the original notes' distinctive yellow color remain registered...

@TheX Post-it note is only for Windows, right?

The application was....
but anyone can buy a post-it note regardless of your operating system

4:05 AM
yes, but
Post-it Notes is just a Memopad
my app is a memopad and also a alarm clock.
Though, I could not choose exact name for this software.
What's the name you recommend for my app?

@kos: How do I get something to be a sub-base?

user136984
Sort of...

user136984
So that it's not a base of itself.

user136984
But say the number will only go up to A in hex before it starts using the new column.

user136984
What's the easiest way of programming something that does this?

user136984
Probably in C or Java.

user136984
12:05 PM
Or even Python. :)

user136984
Well, not a sub-base as that is a topology term, but you know what I mean! :D :P

@Rinzwind hi

@Mudit I've never even used yahoo messenger, but the laws in the EU require service providers to keep all logs for all access for 2 years...

@Fabby aw yeah! Totally geeked out on those.

If there is anyone active on serverfault, please have a look at my answer because I found a way of doing something that everyone else answering says is impossible...
@Mateo I used to have VideoCDs about 20 years ago...
Not many titles in that format!

Wow, I can see why

:D
They were as big as LPs!

Laser disks yep ;)
Looks like vcd had half of the resolution of NTSC or PAL, and compressed

@A.B. You running 15.04?

yes

8:33 PM
(your kernel version is much higher then mine)

hmm, it's a standard installation without any PPA
Today installed the laptop belongs to my son.

@A.B. I'm running 14.04.2...

Ah ok

Were you connected by wire when running this?

yes
@Fabby Should I start it without a connection?

8:38 PM
Are you trying to connect to "Dragonlance"?

Yes

Could you verify your router settings?
it seems that your router is showing its WiFi network twice under the same name...

It's a repeater with the same name.

Could you like do WPA2 only or something and run again?
ah!
Could you change that to Dragonlance-RPTR?

give me a second
AndroidAP is my Smartphone AP
@Fabby ok, done. My repeater is now Dragonlance-RPTR

8:49 PM
And?
Does it make a difference?

no

(sorry went for a smoke)

another smoker :)

Could you do a wireless-debug.sh again and post again?

8:52 PM
reading
Both are using channel 1 can you change the channel on one of the two?
After that, does it make a difference?
(take one far away like 9 or so)
or if you've got N-capabilities: 36 or 40

yes

Hello!
Did I miss anything interesting today?

@ByteCommander if you're active on serverfault: yes!
[ctrl][F]serverfault[Enter]

No, I am not. Should I?

meh... Unless you're interested in NTFS: no...
;-)
@A.B. and can you use AES instead of TKIP?

8:57 PM
@Fabby Unfortunately that is not possible. Both must be in the same channel.

Depends...

@A.B. Huh?
Why?
the repeater just copies from the original?
no way of manually changing?

Power off =)

me totally confused now...
@A.B. what do you mean by "power off" ?

I have turned off the repeater

9:02 PM
Erm... Does that look like if MuditKapil goes bananas again or is that actually a valid question?

Q: how to change kernel name

Mudit KapilHow do I change kernel name to any name like Linux 3.13.0-53-generic to any name and version ABC 3.12.0.53 generic So that If i logged out from any site like Face-book it sends me back via email of that recent login from Firefox on OS ABC 3.13.0-53-generic With IP. How can it be done?

It reads... strange
What has kernel name to do with facebook and why should one receive emails then?

@A.B. could you try to turn off IPV6 on your local machine?
(and try again?)
@ByteCommander He wants to test things out on FB...
See comment...

Facebook checks the kernel?
O_O

@ByteCommander It gets sent in the headers of the browser...

Why not just using an addon like ModifyHeaders then?

Umpf `$ sudo echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
-bash: /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6: Permission denied`

9:11 PM
@ByteCommander Yup... That's why I added "What are you trying to accomplish???"
@A.B. Edit connections - IPV6 settings - method - ignore
I'm going to sleep...
add your last wireless-debug to your question.
I'm sure Chili555 will pick it up.

Good night Fabby (if still here)
I'm leaving too...

so yeah - browser extension?

hey most epic and awesome peeps

@TheX o/

@RPiAwesomeness hey your just the guy I need to talk to...

So I made a script to run memcode to compile my timelapse videos...
worked fine last night...
but now I get an error...

11:18 PM
Ruh roh

this is what it says...:
No Such File or Directory

?
Anything else?

nope that is it

When does it say that?

after I try running it

11:20 PM
Well, where are you running it from?

from ssh
within the directory

Which directory?

if I manually run the commands it works
the directory that everything lives in

Okay...can I see the script again?

#!/bin/bash
ls *.jpg > list.txt;

mencoder -nosound -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:aspect=16/9:vbitrate=8000000 -vf scale=1280:720 -o timelapse.avi -mf type=jpeg:fps=24 mf://@list.txt;

done;

11:23 PM
Huh...I dunno. That error occurs when you run the script?

Just the script..
like I said if I do it manually it works fine

Huh
That's strange.

Yeah...

Wait, is there already a list.txt file in the directory?

> would overwrite it.

11:25 PM
@Seth Ah. Well, I don't know then :P

How do I make sure it is executable?

chmod +x FILENAME
@TheX Without more output, I don't know how much I can help :P

Okay it does that without error

@TheX Oh wait...
@Seth If you have a script that's launched automatically on boot (/etc/init.d) - will it be able to write to a file in /etc/init.d?

@RPiAwesomeness I don't know

11:30 PM
@TheX Where are the pictures stored?
Or rather, what's the script that launches automatically? (In /etc/init.d)

I just fixed.
I removed the original and redid everything and it worked...

What was it?
Strange stuff

I don't know what actually caused the problem

Though, can you still post the contents of the script stored in /etc/init.d?
Or rather, has it worked since we set up auto-start?

Yeah that script works fine

11:35 PM
Okay.

I did have a problem with my flash drive though....

Well...glad I could the infamous cardboard programmer :)

it got corrupted or something...

Oh dear

So I had to reformat it...
who you calling a cardboard programmer :=P

11:37 PM
Me :)

Oh...
by the way for the record I am a network/hardware guy

It's a discussion @NathanOsman and I had a little while back :)

so this is a bit outside the range of my expertise

It's the phenomenon when you figure out the solution to a problem whilst explaining it.
Gonna make a cardboard cut-out of GeorgeTheDev and explain my programming issues to him.

funny way of saying it ;)
I usually said the best way to learn is to try and teach it to someone

11:48 PM
@RPiAwesomeness Good idea!

@TheX Gotta get consent though, the process is quite rigorous
