Who is currently using Nathan's script and can see this message?

user136984
I am just trying to track down a bug. Please say if you can see this message and you are using the script.

user136984
Well, there's me, there's Chan-HoSuh, but who is the third person?

hello
I do see the blank picture
But I think it's Chan's
for me at least
@ParanoidPanda
I see that ghost icon pop up a lot

@ParanoidPanda I'm back.

@JourneymanGeek so... how do you get internet on it?

5:18 PM
Noooooooo!
:p

No ghosts on my end...

Every so often, do you get a blank user icon for the script?
It'll show up next to other icons

@Zacharee1 Why in the world would you hie the poster's name? o_O It's on know your meme for pie's sake!

@terdon I picked whatever Google had first

I saw that once, but not at the moment.

5:20 PM
that was the actual image and not some weird collage

@Zacharee1 ah, fair enough, I thought you'd anonymized it :)

@terdon I don't care that much
And I posted it in like a minute

@Zacharee1 Which seems like a much more reasonable position :)

It would have been tricky to open GIMP itself in less than a minute

user136984
@Zacharee1: No, I don't think it's his because I see his separately too:

user136984
5:24 PM

user136984
But it would be interesting if it was a duplicate of his that didn't have a picture...

user136984
@Nathan: Do you think that's possible?

@ParanoidPanda I think you see mine

user136984
Your one isn't blank though...

Refresh and it'll disappear
huh
Weird
I guess it's just some strange bug

user136984
5:26 PM
Nope, not on my end...

Really?
Mine disappeared. Do you see Chan's icon now? (Under the recent messages)
Hey, @Fabby 's here!

user136984
It's either a bug or someone who's hacked the script or using their own script as the script does not actually perform any validation.

This doesn't seem terrible

user136984
@Zacharee1: Yeah, I still see both.

How would you only see it though? Mine disappeared
I don't see Chan's under these messages at all

user136984
5:28 PM
It's a ghost!

hmm
Nothing new besides @ByteCommander

user136984
@Chan-HoSuh: Are you our ghost?

;p
Nothing after a force refresh

user136984
And now we have a fox @Bob in here too... :D

really?

user136984
5:29 PM

Oh wait
He was here a few days ago, yes

user136984
I thought it was a pair of shoes in its mouth! It's its paws! :D

Bob's a regular in Root Access, Super User's main room.

Yay! You know possessive @ParanoidPanda

user136984
@terdon: So who's our ghost then?

5:30 PM
@ParanoidPanda no idea
I don't see it anymore

user136984
@Zacharee1: Why wouldn't I?

Ghost?

A lot of people don't even know that "its" exists. They just put "it's" for both
@terdon if you had @NathanOsman's script you'd know

I don't.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Hi everybody. It got just 2 upvotes, i think that my answer is very good. Please teach me if i'm wrong.
Mine is so late time. tomorrow.

user136984
@Nathan: Are there any Easter Eggs in the script by the way? Maybe you could program a real ghost into it! :D

@xiaodongjie if you got two upvotes, it must be pretty good. ;)
@ParanoidPanda like people looking like they're typing when they're not (@KGIII), or blank pictures (both of us)?

@Zacharee1 yes, maybe,

user136984
5:38 PM
Ok, a fake ghost, we already have the real one! ;D

user136984
@Zacharee1: I don't know, just something creepy... :D

LOL I'm not typing. In fact, I'm leaving in like 20 minutes to do that holiday thing. :/
I just heard this go "donk" so I looked. :D

¨_¨
:P

user136984
Like maybe a new picture appearing which is of a ghost or something, having it say something which then disappears, and then have it float away, you know, something weird like that! :D

5:40 PM
@ParanoidPanda I don't think the userscript has the capability of writing messages. We'd need @GeorgeTheDev

user136984
:D

user136984
Well, perhaps it could, but messages that are not really there and only users of the script can see, or only some users of the script can see... >:P

user136984
@Zacharee1: The guy's probably seen a film about hackers who have a cool looking Terminal and now he wants it but doesn't want the technical stuff, just the pretty look... :P

user136984
Bye! :)

5:47 PM
Wow, who was closing that as off topic? It's a classic "unclear what you're asking".
We have no idea if it is on topic or not.

user136984
@terdon: I don't know, I certainly didn't VTC it as off-topic.

@ParanoidPanda Whenever you post a message containing the word "Windows", a penguin could walk in and give it a good smashing with a rainbow trout! :-D
@terdon I voted as unclear.

kos
Someone is serial-upvoting me.

I guess so. Hopefully they really reviewed my posts.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Bye! :)

user136984
Uhm, could someone please explain what the hell this is about? Seriously, I was just DDGing the definition to make sure that I hadn't accidentally written "Knitting" instead of "Knighting" and it seems that the latter has changed its meaning and I am now very confused, could someone explain? Has it stopped being something noble and majestic, and become something obscene?

user136984
6:12 PM
And should I stop using the term if it has changed its meaning to this new vulgar meaning?

@ParanoidPanda That was probably written by someone like me: I can take a kid's fairy tale and make it vulgar (or sarcastic or a horror story or...)
;-)

Q: is there any alternative(offline) to MS Powerpoint?

Raihanuzzaman Raseli tried to install MS Office 2010 using but it giving so many errors.. what should i do then ? is there any way to use ms powerpoint or is there any alternative(without libre impress)?

It still means what it means to 99.9% of the population (meaning: the non-vulgar one)

user136984
@Fabby: Phew... :D

user136984
I'm still horrified about the existence of the other meaning though...

6:18 PM
@ParanoidPanda literally every word, even some that aren't English, gets turned into something weird by people in the US or UK
The mobile version of chat leaves a lot to be desired. I wonder why it hasn't been integrated into the app yet
Lol

@AskUbuntuMeta oh... hrm same person that was pirating office...

What? @Mateo

look at his only question on the main site
office online web apps work perfectly fine... and Google docs I don't see any reason to even install those anymore really...

Google is completely free. Office free is pretty limited.

I haven't seen anything I would miss...

@GeoMint Sort of - the app is using Ember.
The AJAX code communicates with the Go server in that file.

@Nathan: Is it possible that the ghost icon is a duplicate of another user's icon, so basically, could it be that there is a user on this site two icons, one without one, but the other as the proper one as it seems to be following certain users around?

@Nathan: That doesn't sound good...

user136984
@Nathan: Do you think that there is any way to convince my computer that the current year is 2558?

Not if it's using Unix timestamps.
Those can't go beyond about 2032.

user136984
@Nathan: So what are we going to do when we get past that year?

@muru,I really need your help

@ParanoidPanda I think we might be using 64-bit timestamps now. Not sure though.

user136984
7:31 PM
Could you find out and be more sure?

Why not ask a question? Something like "What does Linux use for storing the current time and what are the ranges of dates that can be stored?"
Might need to ask on U&L.

user136984
@Nathan: Would that just be ok as the question or should I give more information as I don't really know enough about the subject?

Hang on...
This question at least addresses the problem:

it's funny how even technical people don't really understand the whole unix time thing... was in a meeting with a high-level CTO that complained tech guys were telling him they couldn't handle some data and were putting in the value Jan 1. 1970 as a default.
So the CTO guy basically said, why do you put in some stupid year like that as a default, and why can't you just filter out those dates? He apparently didn't understand you can't pick like 1 AD as a starting point for time, and that it's not as if those guys were purposefully putting in those dates (I expect the issue was missing or null values messing up their data feeds)

user136984
@kos: Yep, he's just going to carry on posting all of his questions on the Meta site... He was even in here asking @muru for help earlier... :D

How long will it take for the guy to just get a ban on everything (main and meta)? Because this is getting really annoying... Maybe I'll post on meta about it! :D

I guess not. Anyway the noise appears to be coming from the hard drive, but I don't know what is causing it.

@blade19899 i have the alpha18 version

@GeoMint Did you install it via ppa?

ok, getting rid of brasero is a good thing for 16.04, because it never seems to work when i use it ever - I just end up install ing k3b or xfburn
thought I might just try it again, and it crashed and ruined a disk
let's install qnx on this thing!

@Mateo emm qnx.com/products/neutrino-rtos/index.html you will install QNX on your pc?

having fun with a pos (point of sale) but it is turning out to be the other definition of pos
had touchscreen drivers for 9.04, but couldn't even get them going on that version ;)
worked great on 15.10 otherwise
may make it into a "picture viewer"

9:26 PM
i am confused :P
QNX is an os?

a realtime os for embeded stuff

ok
you remind me a guy with youtube videos, i think he was named XWORKS and he installed an screen with operating system on his car
i will send you a link in a sec

kindof neat if only the touchscreen would work: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/25703685#25703685
and I don't think I'm going to spend as much money for a win licence as it costs
I might install xp just to see if the drivers there actually work though...

ok :)
i still have a computer with touchscreen from olympus printing ciosk :P
@Mateo i found him :D youtube.com/watch?v=boI_UXyHUkw

@NathanOsman Ah, downvotes. Saw that coming. I find it a bit hard to see how the question "is unclear or not useful" or, indeed, how "this answer is not useful", though. Care to explain? — Elogent 37 mins ago
Le sigh.
And I didn't even downvote.

hrm, would have been fun, but they have quite a complicated key system, they say non for profit and hobisists can get keys but it is a very long form...
so this is why all those old kiosks are still running xp...

indeed. it ran win XP. i can try open it the next days
i think it has a pentium 4 cpu

if it wasn't for the obscure touch screen it would be a perfect ubuntu box

but it is a bit heavy to move
i can take a pic if you want

cool
this one is a atom - with 1gb ram, sata drive, speakers, gigabit ethernet, fanless,

@NathanOsman I don't really get why someone that doesn't really care about fixing up answers or questions would care to engage in discussion about downvotes, but that's just me

lol, that q/a from eariler?

yeah, I get the no time thing
but then you kind of undo that if you start debating why people are downvoting

if he can't maintain, or try out answers to his own question, that fits in the "unclear/not useful" category for me.

@Mateo this was it : damati.com.ua/product/…

oh, fun
that might make a neat project
even if you revamp it into a arcade cabnet or something, you have enough room to put whatever you want in there

10:06 PM
for now i have only the screen
+ card reader + cdrom on it

ah, the top bit?

the stant might be on my fathers PhotoShop
yeah
you think that it be ok to run ubuntu?

maybe, you said a p4 right?
if it has a graphics problem go with Ubuntu Mate

you think touchscreen will work?

the only problem machines I found were centrino/m processors with the pxe flag problem
@GeoMint maybe maybe not, I had luck with a diffrent usb touch screen before this one

10:10 PM
i have it from 2004 or 2007

I'm still not sure the touch screen on this didn't come dead...
going to try xp with those drivers provided to find out

i think it still have Windows XP with Olympus program
the problem was, that they stopped selling photo-paper

ah, was it a special type, like zink?

I need some extra sleep!

it was a thermal printer i think

yeah
old hardware support maybe

A.B.'s bounty question drives me nuts

so, If i get something going on this with the touch screen, I'll lock that into a full-screen browser or something, and 3d-doodle most of the ports over

@Mateo i would like it more being more "family-calendar" style

@ParanoidPanda Woo! It works! I have a local copy of the script working in multiple rooms!
I just need to fix up some stuff and clean things up a bit.

like everyone writes where he is and a list what to do

10:35 PM
The feature will show up within the next couple of days hopefully.

well, the main purpose is for a room scedule at the church - will have who is using the building displayed - with foward/back buttons for days

i go home, and i know where everyone is :P

that is what I would like to make it into anyway

Yeah but all anyone has to do is press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then run explorer.exe :P

not without a keyboad or usb port ;)

Clever!

well, I think I will need to look into blocking all ports though...
make sure it will just go to the one site for info, otherwise might just be setting it up for someone to mine coin on or bot net...

Yeah, you don't want someone else benefiting from those BitCoins :P

10:40 PM
not like a 1.6ghz is going to do much for that ;)
would slow down the thing terribly i'm sure though

I'm sure too :P
