o/ @NathanOsman

how are things over there, is the weather nicer than here

It's nice and sunny here.
What's it like there?

that's good, cold and rainy here

Random fact. This is what the Euro symbol in Comic Sans looks like when you use a really large font size:
Lol?

1:26 AM
haha, it has an eyeball!
were you reading this:
114
Q: What is wrong with Comic Sans?

dumbledadThere's a great TEDxExeter talk by a colleague of mine, Simon Peyton-Jones, about the recent advances in the English lower school 'computer science' curriculum. Like all of his slide decks he uses Comic Sans throughout. Depressingly, though inevitably, one of the YouTube commenters berates him f...

Yup. :)

don't know why the crocs are getting picked on there, at least they have really good function over fastion - comic sans has no good form or function

1:55 AM
can someone downvote this askubuntu.com/q/342503/169736

2:06 AM
@Braiam it's already closed, why does it need a downvote?

@hbdgaf I voted to delete, since the duplicate it links to is also deleted but nobody votes, so a single downvote would delete the whole thing

@Braiam you had a reason, so there you go

most of these questions needs the same treatment askubuntu.com/questions/linked/51566?lq=1

I'm not a nuke cannon. More than happy to help with surgical strikes though.

2:53 AM
sup all.

3:09 AM
@Mateo Right now, I'd trade this sun for cold and rainy. It's what I'm used to, and we haven't had enough lately.

@Seth Ooooo rain!
Me gusta mucho.
(I got a D in Spanish)

Is that A B C D E F or HD D C P N?

A/B/C/D
@JourneymanGeek Ther's no E. (Or at least not in the US)

I've gotten Es before.

@JourneymanGeek You went to a speshul school.

3:24 AM
nope.
;p

@JourneymanGeek United States?

ah hah! But I ain't a merkin.

I don't blame you.

Course, My parents consider a 'pass' embarassing....

same here.
A or F. It always round down...

3:27 AM
(of course, the last and only module I failed in this uni course, I retook and got a C, cause I stopped giving a shit about quality work ;p)

@JourneymanGeek +1. Have a cookie.

I just basically focused on what they expected, and basically just gave formulaic answers.

And that's why I got a nspire calculator.

I feel dirty, but I wasn't learning anything.

hacked cas onto it, problem solved :D
and pokemon.
Math class is now fun.
o/ @RPiAwesomeness

3:39 AM
o/
How'd you manage the Pokemon Calculator...that's pretty cool :D
Also..CAS?

Computational Algebra.

It solves for x for me.
And it's a hacked LEGAL calculator, so I can use it on standardized tests.

nice. And terribly cheaty
lol

that yours?

lol, no. Wish it was :D
But doesn't it look AMAZING?

@RPiAwesomeness Yes. If it was, you might have... stopped living.

I have to take the PSAT :(

@RPiAwesomeness HACKED NSPIRE :D
Wait... The SAT allows CAS.

3:43 AM
ooo...

the nspires are sweet.
the only problem is that TI stopped making the hackable ones.

HOLY BALLS! AND EXPENSIVE!

I got mine manufacturer refurbised for $75.

not too bad. New they're $150
How'd you get a hackable one?
AH

And eBay.
You have to request a specific model number though.

3:46 AM
You ever seen the Portal 2 physics engine/game within a graphing calculator?

@RPiAwesomeness Yes.

Insane
Wonder if i could hack mine...

My laptop is a calculator, and it can graph. :D

That was probably a fake video...
No ASIC graphing calculator can support Portal 2.
(Or any game more advanced than Minecraft)

3:48 AM
The engine was entirely re-written and optimized
That is what I'm building...if my parents let me :P
Really good deal on the mobo + RAM...hope I can get it!

I see no nVidia there.
I do see a lawsuit though.
Actually two.
And 128GB will never be enough.
Finally, why did you choose that CPU?

Lawsuit????
@Whaaaaaat I know. I'm going w. the SSD first, then adding a 1 TB WD Blue later
CPU, It's the best i5 I can afford

looks good to me

GeForce. And it has a power button, just like the Revolutionary(r) Mac(tm)(c) Pro(tm)(r)(c)(sm)'s Ultra-Reliable(sm) Power(tm)(r)(c) Button(sm)(tm)(c)(r)
@RPiAwesomeness And, how is it the best?

Best, as in price/performance

3:52 AM
@RPiAwesomeness By GHz, or cores or what?

@Whaaaaaat That's a lawsuit?

@RPiAwesomeness nVidia might. And Apple definitely will.

I was going by suggestion on /r/buildapc. I was going w. an AMD FX-8320, but it turns out that CPU is 3 years old and aging fast. The i5-4460 and i5-4440 were both suggested, and the 4460 is affordable for me with the mobo deal
@Whaaaaaat what....
I'm...going to get sued by Apple...for build a PC...

@RPiAwesomeness No hyperthreading though...
@RPiAwesomeness Yep :D

ooookay.....

3:54 AM
hyperthreading isn't always necessary tho
@Whaaaaaat isn't making sense ;p

No, there isn't Hyperthreading, but it has 4 cores and it has pretty good performance on multi-core processing and much better single-core processing compared to the AMD

(which is as many as my core i7 from a generation and half back. Tho, I do have HT ;p0

I may need to check the type of my calculator :)

I WANT FIBER LASER NOW

3:59 AM
@Whaaaaaat Ever heard of The Ben Heck Show, TekSyndicate, or LinusTechTips?

@RPiAwesomeness No
OH MY GOD. Pi is an adbot for LinusTechTips!!

Like computers/hacking?
lol
I didn't find out about him until ~4 days ago :)
no

lol
he had a decent guide on tools

I still want a fiber laser.

(seriously, an electric screwdriver is one of the few tools I have no idea how I survived without)

4:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek Who? Linus?

@JourneymanGeek Screw by hand.

I wants Model B+ Pi

I haz one.

Nice :D
If I can get one I'm going to hack my previous Model B into a portable one

@NathanOsman Fiber laser or Model B?

4:04 AM
Model B Pi.

@RPiAwesomeness What would you do if I shipped you a Pi?

I wants a B+ Pi too.

I want a fiber laser and a 3d printer.

You should 3d print your own 3d printer!

@Whaaaaaat I would most definitely use it!

4:07 AM
@Seth GTFO.
I LISTEN to the laws of physics.

@Whaaaaaat I definitely want a 3D printer. My local library might maybe possibly put one in. Which would be awesome.

@RPiAwesomeness It would cost a lot to use.

Obviously I'd have to pay to print, but still :D

I would also like to have a copy of Oblivion...

Man, reading about the Red Hat daemon management tools is making me jealous.

4:09 AM
@Seth Systemd fan much?

Someone get me the Deluxe edition :D

@NathanOsman maybe?

From this shirt:

4:10 AM
I'm just talking about the frontend tools.

To this:
@Seth You already saw this :)

yep :)
/me likes.

I want to poke an eye out!

Figured w.. all the talk of Pis and such...:D
lol

Especially because you break #2 right there :D

4:11 AM
I went to Maker Faire Detroit and saw this in the Maker Tent and knew I had to get it

I violate so many user agreements. The DMCA can legally kill me.

There's this awesome makerspace up near where I live..

I mean, you can't go to one of the biggest Maker Faires in the nation and not get something

I should check it out sometime.

I also bought a Teensy
Both of these were totally worth the $35 I spent

4:12 AM
Stupid Thalmor can kiss my Talos-loving ****.

@RPiAwesomeness I saw Adam Mayer from MakerBot at SIGGRAPH in 2011 :)
His laptop was running Ubuntu, for the record.

@NathanOsman Well duh

@NathanOsman Are you sure it wasn't mint?

@Whaaaaaat It was Ubuntu. It wasn't Mint.

4:13 AM
As for the patch, I had got this Adafruit RPi kit two X-mases ago and it came with it... I wanted a place to put the patch on and the Maker shirt was perfect
@NathanOsman That's doubly cool. You see MakerBot-man and he's running Ubuntu. :D

Some day I want to buy something from the Canonical store, but shipping.. Ouch.

I'm not even spending the $80/$100 for Windows. Ubuntu is the only thing my build will be running for a long time
@Seth IKR! Gosh it's expensive.

@RPiAwesomeness: I'm running a student copy of windows ;p

Seriously, if you were to buy the Ubuntu Touch T-shirt for ~$18, the shipping would triple the cost. Literally, it goes from $18 to $52
@JourneymanGeek Free?

@RPiAwesomeness: Yeah, My school has dreamspark premium for CS/IS students

4:16 AM
Ah

@RPiAwesomeness Yeah. I would love a UT shirt.
@JourneymanGeek Me too :D

The server versions are available as long as you have any .edu account

@Whaaaaaat Actually, I contacted Canonical support and they said I could create my own shirts, so long as I didn't sell them.

@RPiAwesomeness I have no skill to do so.

lol
I'm okay at graphic design, so once I have the cas, I'm having a desing printed
Curses. I doubt Microsoft recognizes Homeschooling
Maybe I can get a public school ID since I'm taking the PSAT through the local HS...

4:22 AM
Running Windows Server 2012 on AWS isn't actually as expensive as I expected.

@RPiAwesomeness Has to be college.

And that

I don't know that you can get a .edu address from any community college, especially in California...

@RPiAwesomeness Email them and ask.

@RPiAwesomeness Read my last post carefully...

4:28 AM
I've read cases where they'll let you in. Granted, I don't recall homeschooling specifically.

lol...this is MS we're talking about. They aren't reasonable like Canonical

And how would you know?

Canonical isn't reasonable either. Keyloggers.

Have you ever had contact with them?

lol, nope.

4:30 AM
Just saying, it is worth a try.
and not every part of MS is garbage. Quite.

Yeah...it can't hurt. unless they try to murder me

I also do not know that .EDU addresses are free in community college. You just need to apply for a studentship once.

I wonder if you'll be able to download Windows 8.1 w. Bing for free

I also do not know that most Microsoft software is available through torrents.

4:32 AM
Fail.

Dangit formatting
Technically, we do have a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium that was previously on our now-dead Compaq laptop...wonder if that'd work

OEM licensing

??
As in...I can't reinstall to my PC...?
Ai probably should go to sleep....but I don't want to :(

@RPiAwesomeness Bingo.

Darn you Windows
OMG. BitFenix has a MicroATX version of the Prodigy. I'll be back eventually.

4:38 AM
Calc (from LibreOffice) has a repainting bug.

@NathanOsman LibreOffice is a bug.

Hey - it's better than nothing.
And it's better than OpenOffice (which Oracle took over).

@NathanOsman Debatable.

@NathanOsman Oh for sure

Oracle is not debatable.

4:39 AM
It looks better anyways
Amazing. I think I may have found my case, if it didn't cost so darn much
Ehe..yeah. No. :( $135 for a case is out of my price range I'm afraid :(
But still! Good to remember for the future!
Awww....this looks amazing...a bit small, but still amazing
I wants.

5:06 AM
lol
I tend to use google docs >_>

5:34 AM
Google Docs... ugh...
Docs doesn't even allow you to merge table cells.

5:47 AM
I use gDocs for word only.

My personal goal is to avoid word processors altogether.

LaTeX ALL THE THINGS.
^--- insert appropriate meme here

I tend to create things in sublime text, then use a word processor for formatting.

@NathanOsman ew. TeX

5:49 AM
@Whaaaaaat It's the most future-proof formatting / markup system in existence.

@NathanOsman So why do none of my teachers accept TeX files?

@Whaaaaaat You don't send them the text file. You render it to a PDF and send that.
I'll show you a screenshot of my TeX editor.

@NathanOsman They do not accept PDF either.
Only *.doc. Not even .docx

Ultra lame.

Windows XP + Office 97

5:52 AM
Ultra ultra lame.

They use workgroups, not domains.
And it's all 10MBit.

See, it's not that bad :)

I wish I had ubuntu :,(

Texmaker runs on Windows too.

I wish I had my laptop back :,(

5:58 AM
But it's a fairly large download and a bit more difficult to install.

Is there any bug related to this already reported then give link of it, otherwise I want to report bug how to report bug for command?

6:51 AM
hello, is any one else awake at this weird hour?

Nothing wierd about the hour.

lol
i suppose not
i was hoping i could trouble some one about a question
would you be familiar with installing drivers

I'm not really an AU regular, but ask anyway ;p

lol

I'm up pretty much 24/7

6:54 AM
there's only one driver provided by the manufacturer for my wireless NIC card
so I downloaded
poked around the documentation

What NIC?
also, NIC card is redundant ;p

asus wl-138G V2
lol
it realy is
i'm just used to saying it

Ahh
I think I asked the wrong question
What chipset

define
32 bit?

6:56 AM
that's the one
oh nice, i see driver

(Model/brand dosen't matter. Wifi chipset Generally ralink/mediatek and intel have the best support. Broadcom is a pain in the arse)

hopefully it's better than the heap I got from the manufacturer
hey, i'm currently feeling it

Probably is, but its a little work

doctor looks at my ass and says i can't help you with that
that's broadcom pain
cheap commercial rip off

lol
Other than price, I'm pretty certain it makes a lot more sense to buy a known pci-e card and a adaptor if you need pci-e and need to be certain it works
(or go to the store with a phone, and look up what the model has ;p)

6:59 AM
this is very much true. However, I'm currently suffering broke college student syndrome
