Damn Variety is amazing!
BBL

12:27 PM
did someone had an experiance in editing Ubuntu community page?
this commands
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo sed 's/trusty/saucy/g' -i /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-trusty.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && (boot-repair &)
in the communtiy page
intended to work only for 14.04
for other older versions
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && (boot-repair &)
is enough.But they failed to mention that.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo sed 's/trusty/saucy/g' -i /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-trusty.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && (boot-repair &)
@AvinashRaj these commands:
will work for older distributions too

yes, i agree. But why we have to change like above in precise or raring.
and also in raring or precise it would not be
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-trusty.list
it's /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-raring.list
or
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-saucy.list

12:43 PM
@AvinashRaj This is the point, in precise, raring or saucy, that file not exist, so nothing will be edied
and so remain only three commands for older versions

yep. Then the default commands
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && (boot-repair &)
is enough for 12.04,12.10,13.10

Oli
But running the extra command doesn't hurt those users. They won't have a trusty source file.

famous last words @oli :-D

@Oli exactly, this I wanted to say

I'd go for the safe route ;-)

12:46 PM
i think it shows no such file or directory error.
consider if we run
sudo sed 's/trusty/saucy/g' -i /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-trusty.list

@AvinashRaj no problem, skip over

command in a raring
then the list created in raring would be
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/yannubuntu-boot-repair-raring.list
so no such file or directory error.
@RaduRădeanu someone may raise this as a question.
why it appears no such file or directory error?
friends catch you later.

1:00 PM
...they test if the file exists

hi
is there a glitch in my calendar, or why is the update/upgrade to Tahr not showing (from Precise LTS) ?
in settings, "notify me about LTS" is selected
download from: "main server"
hit Check in Update Mgr
(my guess is that it'll come thru o'er the next few days...)
((but why not already here-and-now ?))

Q: Run TOR / Start TOR / Terminal command

UlrichThis is a great answer. It worked for me using Ubuntu 13.10 and now 14.04. Creating Desktop or terminal comands shortcuts to open a program Thank you to Kamil for originally answering this question.

damn Oli :( I was helping that user :(
@ulrich if you want to thank someone upvote the answer that worked for you :)

Oli
They don't have the rep to upvote yet.

tsk that's a temporary problem

Oli
Okay, okay, I've left them a comment.

see! that's why you are a mod :D :D

damn Firefox acting up

1:55 PM
@nuttyaboutnatty no idea >:)

-1 because this is not the way how a user should interact with Ubuntu: to remove all the PPA repositories when upgrading (which is your main point in the answer). — Radu Rădeanu 7 hours ago
^ this is funny

@oli this seems out of order to me: askubuntu.com/a/453398/15811
(refering to edits has nothing to do with the answer)

Q: Global Keyboard shortcuts in Ubuntu 14.04

bak202I've just upgraded my distribution from 13.10 to 14.04, which seems to have broken global keyboard shortcuts. They are still present in the "Keyboard settings" as before. Although media keys are affected, so are other global shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+T for Terminal. Other keyboard shortcuts work a...

@Braiam I removed the comment in his answer :-)

@Rinz ^^

I am ready to accept his anger :-)

@Rinzwind did you able to remove a comment?

@AvinashRaj that's the worse approach ever
never do that

no I removed a line in an answer that was a comment to a edit-war :-)
these 2 are evil: --force-all --force-overwrite

i just combined both.

2:19 PM
no more editing on that question please - it has had the best of brains at it. Its now fine as is.

yay more badges
@fossfreedom yes boss! just to make sure: you mean the one braiam posted? This one: askubuntu.com/questions/451254/…

yeah that

might be wise to star both >:D

I've commented on the Q to that effect.

if I make an edit and someone rolls it back or changes it again I always have this "ok have it your way" idea

2:21 PM
lol

seems like a good policy :)

that's Rinzwind :-)

its even more funny if someone else then shows up and changes it to my edit _o-
seen that happen a few times :D
yay another badge

Well it's more of an open ended discussion question.

Q: How can I get involved in the Ubuntu Ayatana team?

prepangolinHow can I get involved in Ubuntu UX team? I think that Ubuntu is the most one of the Linux Distros in the world. Especially, I am interested in Mir, Unity project to make Ubuntu UX. I am not experienced but I'd like to Ubuntu Graphics.

@xiaodongjie Found it --^

4:02 PM
Yeah It is.

@prepangolin You might get better luck on a site like discourse.ubuntu.com or the ubuntu forums.

I see

I had voted up it.

No thanks

:(
@Seth Hi, Can you understand @prepangolin?
about his question?

4:05 PM
What about it?

I think that it's off-topic.

That 's fun.

He is going to get a job at here.
It's too bad, I think.
It's open source site, and We are freely contributers.

@xiaodongjie you spam me

But he don't.
@Seth It's right isn't it?

4:07 PM
You 're not beautiful girl as you seen.

@prepangolin Oh, yes. You're right.

@xiaodongjie Not entirely. but it is on the border.

Please be polite as madam.

@Seth oh, you're right, you can see his comment about it's answer.
@Seth So, I had already voted up. But now.

you can downvote

4:10 PM
@mojo706 Oh, I talk about his comment, not question.
question is good.
but comment is...
So I suggest him remove his own comment.

yes comments can be down voted

@mojo706 comment is freedom I think.

@mojo706 It's right? I don't think so.
@Seth What do you think about it?

In comment, What can I say anymore?

@prepangolin oh, remove your comment.

I suggest it strongly.

hey
please look his comment.
It's good.

What is the penalty in comment of my own question?

I suggest remove his comment about answer.

4:16 PM
@prepangolin what do you mean most one?

@xiaodongjie Tell me reason
If I understand, I will consider.

@mojo706 Oh, I think that his comment is too bad.
@prepangolin Look
it's your comment:"Thx for your reply with voting. I've tried to join these teams but my proposals are in posponed. How to good join to that team? I'd love to hear from you, have more experience."

Mew
what am i missing?

But the reason is bad,You must have responsibility against me.

at "how to good join to that team?", you find good job.

4:18 PM
@mew nothing much

@xiaodongjie I think he isn't asking for a job.

Mew
oh, someone wants to join UX?
is that OT here?

@Seth Oh, I see. But he isn't use launchpad.net.
I think that it's spam.

She is wrong

no this is a an open chat room I think. I also think its fine on Ask (but you know I am new here) so I might be wrong

4:21 PM
@xiaodongjie How do you know? Besides, it isn't any of your business.

Anyone can find that I use Launchpad

oh i missed the flag.

@AvinashRaj It was a silly flag.

@Seth because

@xiaodongjie is chat box

4:23 PM
@prepangolin @Seth look above address about launchpad.net

What about it?

@Seth He hasn't any experiences with contributing ubuntu.

@xiaodongjie spam me.

@xiaodongjie Gotta start somewhere don't you? And you better stop now.
Why do you have such a problem with his question?

She is violating the rule.

4:25 PM
@prepangolin It's not violate.

Mew
@prepangolin If you want to start with the UX, you need to get the code from Launchpad (launchpad.net/ayatana), make edits, and then upload them and see if they accept it

I suggest Let her vote down.

@prepangolin she? who?

Yes
She pretend her
She is not good user.

That's enough.

4:26 PM
She is argly girl.

I'm going to boot the both of you if you don't stop this silly bickering now.

@Seth Oh, I just talk about his comment. I didn't talk about him.

As the man. I will stop.

don't irritate mods.

Bob
Could we please stop with the seemingly useless flags?

4:27 PM
@Seth Now I'll stop.

Good bye everybody except @xiaodongjie.

Good, and keep it that way.

Bob
PSA: chat flags are broadcasted to every 10k user and mod on the network. Do not use them lightly.

@Bob yeah sorry about those.

Mew
@Bob which explains the flood of users whenever something happens.

Bob
4:28 PM
@Seth Hey, you were trying to stop them. Hardly your fault :P

@Bob Well I suppose, but still, sorry :)

Mew
we should always have 3 active mods in this room.
it would help a lot.

@Seth could you change the close reason dupe askubuntu.com/questions/452923/windows-colon-did-not-open

Q: Let me opt out of viewing chat flags

MDMarraI'm not a moderator. I have ~50k rep on Server Fault. I am a regular in chat. Because chat allows all 10k+ users across the network to act on chat flags, I (and many other regulars in SF chat) see some problematic users from other chats flagging things that aren't actually offensive. I disagree...

@AvinashRaj done

Mew
4:33 PM
i envy you moderators.

@Braiam Didn't you want me to reverse the dupe closure on something earlier? I didn't have time at the time..

Mew
hey?
can't someone with skill write a greasemonkey script to block the 10k notifier?
that would solve a lot.

@Mew You wouldn't if actually had to be one.

Mew
@Seth i like dealing with trivial tasks

4:37 PM
@Mew I'm sure someone could..
@Mew Being a moderator isn't a trivial task ;)

Mew
@Seth still more fun than watching users bicker. you can do something about it.

True in a way.

Mew
and, where should i go for this question:

How to run Django and PHP (under different subdomains) on same Apache webserver?
webmasters?

@Mew no, SU, SF, UL
AU if its about ubuntu

Mew
ik not to post it here
but i was not sure if webmasters or SuperUser or UnixLinux.
so, UL it is.
even though its on a ubuntu machine?

Mew
serverfault it is.

no no no.
They only want professional based questions.
I'm guessing you aren't doing this at work ;)

Mew
??
this is professional.

> Server Fault is a site for system and network administrators needing expert answers related to managing computer systems in a professional capacity.
> and it is not about…

**Anything in a home or development environment**

Mew
okay.
so then where??
UL?

4:45 PM
That'd work I think.

Mew
okay

if it's apache running on windows ask on SU

Mew
apache on ubuntu
windows.... shudders

@Rinzwind just a question about a program.
@Rinzwind I forgot a program's name.

you are not that old to start forgetting things :=)

This program is compress ELF.

what does it do? or should I start with a and name them all? >:)

@Braiam hi. yesterday, why you were baned from askubuntu temporarily.

sorry this question.

@Mateo 5 PSA: chat flags are broadcasted to every 10k user and mod on the network. Do not use them lightly. - 1h ago by Bob
this one deserves upvotes: askubuntu.com/a/453790/15811

(and if it was up to me Ubuntu should suply this out of the box)

bye, I need to sleep.

sleep well
Those chinese people are weird. They always go to bed at 19:40 :P

5:54 PM
@Dan 3 to 4 will delete it, depending on how others have reviewed (as Braiam's link said). It isn't needed for you to flag them though. You can if you want.
Ah, nope. It still requires 6 recommendations.

F* AlienVault

wonder where they live.

Is that.. Official?
I mean, is he joking/has it been definitely decided?

it appears to be... we're not the first to jump on the Unicorn train.
His blog is filled up with Us an u an uuu

Yeah, he does that. Hey, at least he has a sense of humour!

6:04 PM
great sense of that :)
but having an Utopic release is promising.

6:21 PM
Ew...just saw a "troubleshooting" tag...
...it looked at me with its eyes...

Yeah, been a couple meta posts on it.

6:35 PM
@Takkat we are ditching python2? :)

@Rinzwind obviously - that's very ambitious...

very.

Let's prepare for the broken apps.

oh man there is so many p2 apps :X

ancient gems :"(
long abandoned but still brilliant.

6:36 PM
hmm wondering does p2 do anything p3 can not?

nope but they changed the code all over the places...
only minor stuff but it prevents p2 apps from running.

yeah but basically 1st test would be an string search and replace of the shebang if it is not set to /usr/bin/env :D
come to think of it... also a good moment to kill anything that does not use env _O-

grrr

that is rrrg backwards

switched my app from python2 to python3 some year ago... it was pretty straightforward because I did not use anything "deprecating" there.

6:40 PM
that proves you are a good coder :=)

@Rinzwind no way - I should just because of this encrypt my code so that nobody sees it... :D

yes way! :=) thinking ahead in time when coding is good practice

and not using recipies from The Internets that are 10 years old or so... ;)
unless they are good, of course... :)

ok I need afk time (got flue so screen starts to flicker after an hour :D )
bbl

@Takkat That means we are going to have as tags..

6:46 PM
@Aditya lol - don't let Braiam know. ;)

nay. we will have 14.10 tags

what a pity, really... we should switch to codenames just because of this.
BRB

good night then

Q: How to list all protected questions?

Sylvain PineauI know that we can use some sort of queries/SQL to get this kind of information. But I don't really know the exact API nor the exact keywords to use. I ask because I'm looking for a way to browse great questions, not only by looking at their votes. So where and how could I build such query?

Grub doesn't seem to appear. I am on Ubuntu 14.04, updated from Ubuntu 13.10. What do I do?

the same things you always did askubuntu.com/questions/162075/…

meteorsHello I'm newbie 2 ubuntu 12.04 How do I set the grub time and default os(that I see at the boot time) as I'm using dual boot OS(Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04)

Q: How do I reset a lost password (using recovery mode requires me to type the password)?

userI need to reset my password. I have followed these steps: How do I reset a lost Administrative (root) password? However, then I go to "root" or "netroot" recovery options, it tells me: Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue) Clearly, I do not know the root password...

Like I said. Three strikes. You're out.

So I need a CD or thumbdrive now?

If that's what the answer says, then yes.

Well, thanks then.

With how horrid pepper makes flash about redrawing the screen, chromium/chrome need a "redraw" hotkey.
Not refresh, just redraw

hm, yeah that would be nice.

as it stands i just unmaximize, maximize. there's no reason that can't be internal to chrome and faster than i can click or tap a set of hotkeys.
