8:12 PM
Hi ! Any xfce users around ?

@rvraghav93 hi
@astrob0t Bug? I'm in Ubuntu right now. I can check it out if you want.

@Whaaaaaat sup ?

You need something with XFCE?

know how to programmatically connect with the notes plugin of xfce ?
the notes plugin is awesome for short notes etc ...

as in, a notes API?

8:16 PM
Yeah :)
Or a good gui for evernote ?
Or how do you guys take notes and make sure that is synced to your mobile / web etc :P

i just use onenote online
(or I reboot into Windows :P)

haha ! ill give onenote a try !

/me still waits for native OneNote for Linux

Yeah ! Really linux should get a good note taking app that is cross plat form ! I really like notes for xfce and evernote which is awailable for every other damn thing except linux ... :D ofcourse they have a web interface ... but a native gui is always better than a web interface ! sighs

Or for wine to solve this bug

8:19 PM
*available :P
wait evernote has a windows client maybe that could run under wine !

great. the bug can be reproduced using the following steps.
1. open geditor, open a hidden file (say for eg, .bash_history)
2. open nautilus. all hidden files and folders would be visible.
3. close gedit. the hidden files and folders in nautilus cannot be hiddedn any more using ctrl+h shortcut
4. even view > uncheck show hidden items doesn't work
5. files can be finally hidden by going to preferences > views tab > uncheck show hidden files checkbox

checking. brb.

@rvraghav93 What do you mean "connect" to the notes plugin, i.e. what is your ultimate goal?

Ah. Our resident XFCE expert is here.

@seth I thought since evernote has an api may be i could write a script to keep just one text only note synced between both xfce's notes and evernotes say note1
Is it possible ?

8:23 PM
@astrob0t For me, I can hide and unhide with Ctrl-H.
show hidden items also works.
what version are you using?

@Whaaaaaat 3.10.1

@rvraghav93 I believe it might be, depending on Evernotes API.
I'll have to look into it later.

@astrob0t Not present for me. (14.04, v3.10.1, fresh install)

it would be super useful for me ... using the evernotes api I am able to do a one way sync from notes ( xfce ) which is in local/share/notes to evernote but not the otherway round since overwriting the local file which notes uses ( merely as a backup ) doesn't update the notes ... It rather gets overwritten by the notes plugin later when it tries to update its backup !
@Seth ^

@Whaaaaaat can you edit the hidden file and close gedit and then check for the nautilus behavior.

8:25 PM
@rvraghav93 ah, I can see where that would be a problem.

editing the bash_history shouldnt be a problem

checking...

@Whaaaaaat i think the same behaviour was encountered over here -> askubuntu.com/questions/547357/…

@Seth hmm ... Just out of curiosity what do you guys do to take notes and keep it synced ... @Whaaaaaat just said he uses onenote using the web interface ! wbu ?

so, you opened gedit, hit the open icon, showed view hidden files, and then opened a file

8:28 PM
@Whaaaaaat yes

@rvraghav93 I use OneNote off and on. And my phone mostly.
That's about it.

there is google's keep

I sometimes wish there was a notes plugin for Unity (my DE of choice), but there isn't that I know of.

@Mateo is keep there for linux ....
as a gui app ?

sure it has a dektop app in chrome

8:29 PM
@astrob0t still works for me

even has shortcuts and all

however, i still see hidden files in the Gedit open window.
(disabling that causes hidden files to be seen in nautilus, but I can hide that with Ctrl+H and not see it in the gedit window)

@Mateo that is a very good solution, actually. Is there an evernote chrome app?

@Whaaaaaat weird. i have been able to reproduce it every single time. :)

8:31 PM
I bet there is.

Wine should just support pen/tablet so I can use OneNote desktop in Linux.
I'd be happy then.

@Whaaaaaat found a similar bug over here -> bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1247221

@Mateo thats awesome !! Thanks ! I'll try it and let you know how it goes !

It's in the "for your desktop" category of the web store

8:34 PM
Should I use Mate or KDE in a mate-like panel arrangement?

@Mateo is that a chrome app?

@astrob0t yeah, the desktop apps they have, which are kind of like webapps... but a small section of them can run offline

@Mateo Thanks a lot ! that was super useful ! works great with both pc and android !

Nah. Cinnamon or KDE in Gnome2 panel mode. What do you think, @Mateo?

hmm, kde.
the new one is really looking good
woah, hangouts on the desktop?

8:43 PM
KDE it is.
I like kde.

@Seth yeah, if you do the webapp, and have it open in window and create shortcuts on right-click, it works
same for google docs or word, and netflix, webapps are getting awesome

/me loves the new material design stuff
but Chrome is such a resource hog :/

9:05 PM
@Mateo great tip. thanks a lot.!

;) sure thing
check this out:
type chrome://flags in chrome and look for "Enable the App Launcher. Linux"

@Mateo windows has such a thing. but i was not able to figure out how to set this up in ubuntu.

9:42 PM
@Mateo I almost like it.

it does a strange loading thing on unity (they close the app that shows the window each time), worked better on xfce
I usually just take the time to do the shortcuts for any of the ones I want to launch

9:55 PM
Of course I would be able to find a hardware keylogger. Now, which of these is the serial port again? http://t.co/SckI6q4ThD
4

Nice
The on board before your amazon purchase is actually received are the scary ones... I can't imagine there are lots of them in circulation though.

@NathanOsman keelog.com

Nobody uses a serial cable to connect a keyboard... do they?

Not ever

I haven't seen serial ports on PCs in years.

10:06 PM
Is more scared of this nsaplayset.org/slotscreamer

They actually still have headers, they just arn't populated any more

jrg
@NathanOsman wait, did you find a keylogger?
i need to buy one or 2.

Er... no.

jrg
ah, ok.
there is a system that I need to be able to prove was only used for a certain thing. hardware keylogger is probably the easiest way to do so.

On-screen-keyboard?
:P

jrg
10:07 PM
since i'm the user, it's not wiretapping. :-)
(or even really spying...)

@NathanOsman I used to have a mouse with 9pin, might have an adapter somewhere

I did too.
It's still around here somewhere.

@jrg Windows/linux/both/what?

jrg
@hbdgaf Mac.
work machine.

I think it is supposed to have good latency

10:08 PM
THUD

@JourneymanGeek just get some of those clip on noise suppressors, and it will look pro

Hah, the ferrous barrel things. Would be a nice touch.

hey, this one is empty, and the other has electronics in it...

10:13 PM
What is with all of the Christmas stuff?
It's not even Thanksgiving

they start branding three months in

Mateo, you have a Christmas penguin all year round.

@Whaaaaaat ;) penguins need to stay fashionable

He has a wintery weather penguin for most of the year, so it sort of works.

10:16 PM
sunglasses and winter clothes all the way, right @NathanOsman

Aw yeah.

special blue tinted ones for the glare off the snow ;)

I'm converting my picture into an SVG. A "cartoon-ish" version of me.

cool
I almost bought one of those stuffed penguin beta fish bowls...

Still a work in progress.

10:18 PM

Oh. My.

but I didn't...

because having one of these standing inside your front door year round wouldn't be like... creepy at all... walmart.com/ip/…

No, not at all.
