@GeorgeEdison oh, i've got all sorts of stuff planned for April fools day.

@jrg are you going to top the webkit ported to JS from last year?

jrg
oh, i will top all the things.
trust me

are you registering askubunto.com so you can direct questions with typos there?

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Really?

@GeorgeEdison I thought it would be an interesting april fools...or the askubunto thing I just noted

9:18 PM
Oh, I actually thought you were serious for a moment there.
Proves that it's a believable prank.

It could be pretty epic

jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing i'd totally buy that domain.
but i'm mostly broke, and all the remaining monies is going to pay for some peoples lunch tomorrow. ;P
but i have some really fun april fools things i'm planning on doing.
i'll just leave the rest to your imagination.

9:35 PM
I have a few things myself.

jrg
oh, nothing will top what i've got planned.
man, i'm so close to being able to declare this "published". github.com/ClevelandOnRails/rubyonrailsbook/…
waiting on one PR to nail 3 of those issues, and then i've got two chapters to write, and some instructions to google.

hello, looking for a bit of advice if that is appropriate here.
do not mean to jump in or anything

jrg
@geezanansa no, go right ahead.

newish user that has had question moved to community wiki and had a look on meta to try and get to grips what it is and how why. So why did q get moved to community wiki?

jrg
lots of reasons.

9:41 PM

jrg
i see that yours became CW [made Community Wiki by geezanansa editing at least 10 times]

sorry tried to link q

20 revisions

jrg
but i have removed the CW status.

how did you find th info

jrg
9:41 PM
since it's just a complex problem.
@geezanansa i looked at the revision history. askubuntu.com/posts/208405/revisions

i have reedited question to make it less complex

jrg
fixed it. :)

it should be simple to boot a efi capable os on efi capable system
right?

jrg
theoretically.

so how it complex

9:43 PM
did you use the ubuntu security respin?

jrg
i don't have a efi system, so i can't comment on the matter. :(

jrg
i put a bounty on your question - maybe somebody will be able to answer it.

i made and accepted an answer with an external link which i thought maybe contributed to it being moved . oooh bounty hunters coming
i posted picture of grubefi to try and eliminate bios/firmware answers
thx jrg Abraha ttfn

after minimal googling, it looks like it's very similar to this question: askubuntu.com/questions/223323/…

9:56 PM
just got back lol

10:20 PM
@GeorgeEdison We all get the same type of gravatar and raid the chat.
shrug

Sure.
How 'bout that?

o_o
I don't know.

10:45 PM
@GeorgeEdison that.would.be.epic

11:00 PM
What is the difference between "Deny" and "Reject" in the firewall rules?

11:12 PM
Hmm good question

@Seth REJECT sends an ICMP Port Unreachable packet to the host that sent the packet. DENY is silent. Source: ouah.org/reject_or_deny.html

@EliahKagan Thanks :)
So if I set DENY anyone trying to connect would get timed out and if I used REJECT they'd get a "request rejected" message?

Typing on my new tablet :)

Nice link thanks.
@mateo_salta Oh? What is it?

Lindsay f-10 android tablet, was 200 and had HDMI out

11:19 PM
anyone know how to create one of those "install in Ubuntu" apt links for answers?

@strugee SE doesn't allow them actually
At least, that's my understanding.

@Seth yep I spelled it wrong

@strugee Like this:

A: How to post links that integrate with the Software Center?

Marco Ceppi Volunteers Wanted! Here is a search of posts with "sudo apt-get install" but are missing apps.ubuntu.com links (we filter out "error" and "ppa"). If you want to make a difference for new users, add these buttons to existing questions where appropriate! https://www.google.com/sear...

@Seth What's not allowed?
@strugee As recommended in that post, I recommend using George Edison's applet to add a button that automates creating the necessary (and somewhat complex) markdown:

Q: Ask Ubuntu Toolbar Buttons - A set of toolbar buttons for Ask Ubuntu that make it easy to insert links to packages, PPAs, etc.

George Edison Update: This script was previously called "Insert APT Link" but has now been renamed. As such, you need to uninstall any previous versions before installing the new one. Screenshot / Code Snippet About This UserScript adds some buttons to the editing toolbar that allow the follo...

@strugee LOL!
I just edited that answer.

@EliahKagan I was talking about the apt:// ones.

11:23 PM
@Seth Oh. My bad. Those really cannot be posted, I think. Because only a few protocols are allowed for URLs.

You can link here: apps.ubuntu.com/cat just fine.

@EliahKagan According to Jorge, linking directly to apt:// URLs is discouraged.

@EliahKagan Yeah.. It would be nice, but a bad security risk.
@GeorgeEdison By who? Canonical?

Also, @MarcoCeppi, I think we're going to need to change the software center icon again soon.
@Seth I guess so. That's what @JorgeCastro told me.

Interesting.. I wonder why.
It makes more sense than to link to the app site. IMO anyway.

11:25 PM
@EliahKagan: much obliged

@Seth don't they only work in some browsers as well?

@mateo_salta Emm... IE might not support them, but every decent browser will AFAIK.

I just remember having problems with opera...

@mateo_salta apt:// links? If the browser can tie protocol to program, those work perfectly fine. There's just hardly any point outside of systems using apt.

Opera has always been a little weird.. Ah, here comes the expert :P

11:30 PM
Proballlly explains alot

@GeorgeEdison you beat me to it

@Seth Opera has been having a lot of problems recently. In theory this should work, but most likely the apt:// protocol doesn't link to apt.

(pressed enter instead of tab)

@FEichinger Yeah I've noticed.
Opera's hasn't worked nice recently.
\o @Flabricorn

11:34 PM
o/ @Seth

Also, as for why apt:// links are discouraged: I would assume this is because they're essentially hijacking your system. Combine that with the fact that not exactly telling the user what the thing is about to do, and it only working on systems using apt ... Pointless, mostly.

@FEichinger Pretty much pointless.

> For experts and newcomers with regards to newspapers, journals, journalists, and journals.
Can you spot the error?

journals x 2

Exactly!

11:42 PM
Oh the irony!

11:56 PM
Didn't question with close votes used to show close 1/5 or something similar? I just see close 1 now...

I ... don't think so, no.

Q: Should I report comments (in any way at all) that aren't spam but aren't constructive?

strugeeI'm looking at (this question)[How to download Ubuntu over a very unreliable connection? in which someone is giving pretty unhelpful answers in the comments attached to the question. I don't think this person is really trying to be unhelpful, but the comments just aren't good. If those suggestio...
