I'm going to ask that next if he says F1 won't work (that should at least show a error if that is broke), but mine shows exactly like his - until you start the camera with F1 (he never said he hit F1)

./camdesk.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./camdesk.py", line 5, in <module>
    import pygst
ImportError: No module named pygst

ah, so maybe he does have the dependencies since they would error?
anyway it works perfectly fine on 12.04 here.

9:14 PM
@Mateo I just solved the pygst issue and shows the same as his...
if I have to guess, he needs libgtk2.0-dev installed

9:29 PM
@Braiam just a waiting game to see if he knew to hit F1 or he missed dependencies...

What do I need to fix?

nah, I just fixed it.. :P

oh..

mixed tabs and spaces in a python script ;)

you getting video after F1 @Braiam

9:34 PM
Ah

10:26 PM
@Braiam If they're writing a new script they should be using the pygi bindings for Gst: wiki.ubuntu.com/Novacut/GStreamer1.0
o/ @KLVTZ - Discrete Mathematics ey? Are you aware of the name of some Chinese/English dual language treatise on the topic? I found it once long ago, and can't seem to find it any more. It was a term paper essentially formatted as basic problem. Proof. Solve these two. Something that builds on that... and so on and so forth. Started with basic calculus and got all the way to feistel networks?
It was interesting because it was like the most accelerated math class ever.
@Braiam love it. i actually have a sed script i run for that since sublime doesn't learn it fast enough with python plugins and tries to honor whatever.

Q: Cross-Distro Compatibility- What's stopping it?

cloudcoder2000For example, why can't I run Ubuntu programs on Fedora or Arch, and vice versa? And on the same note, why can't I use apt-get in Fedora or pacman in LFS? And what about .deb and .rpm files? Could someone please explain for a complete Linux novice?

11:01 PM
@hbdgaf well, I just used what the real programmers use and it got solved rather easily ;)

heh... you so funny.

@Brian, when you mentioned Chinese, I was think of the Chinese Remainder Theorem -A basic proof using modulo and discrete summations. However, I would have to do more research on a term paper regarding that very subject of feistel networks

@KLVTZ It was just a have you seen this pdf floating about inquiry.

me?

I think he meant me...

11:05 PM
Oh sorry, I misread usernames
Sorry about that, the message was directed @hbdgaf
Hey Guys, I see you active on the board, did you stumble upon my recent question? This problem is really bugging me because it may mean a clean install which I'm far too troubled with other work to do at the very moment

I upvoted and commented as to what I think the source of the problem is. It's not a solution though.

@hbdgaf thanks man! It's just really odd because it happened out of no where -i wonder if a recent saucy update may have conflicted with unity tweak?

could be something with the move between dconf and gconf or whatever and some logic that checks prefers one location.
unity tweak started right before the migration started. it's a neat tool, but i use xfce...so i don't really need it
@jokerdino is on that dev team. he might know about some known bug, but he just went to bed. jokerd -> askubuntu.com/questions/388060/…

@KLVTZ Please include the output of apt-cache policy unity-tweak-tool in your question.

yay. got 4.4 flashed on to the nexus 7 and old flash working...on to multirom, pwnpad, and maybe ubu-touch if i'm feeling like trying it again now that some time has passed.

11:16 PM
@hbdgaf \o/

@Seth -I'll go do that right now -thank you!
@hbdgaf right, i could leave without unity tweak tool but when it comes to just applying regular settings to my system, but not applying, thats when issues arise for me

@KLVTZ i know those feels. think about how you would feel if you wanted to turn something off and the setting wasn't even exposed. so you wrote something to do that. then people go --- oh, probably a good idea --- and it inspires core changes. it's an alternately nice and irritating feel.

Another thing you should consider doing is running dconf watch / in a terminal, change a setting in UTT, find the dconf key in the terminal and try changing it in dconf editor, see if it keeps the settings

@Seth, I posted the output of apt-cache policy unity-tweak-tool in my question
@h
@hbdgaf totally agree!
@Seth, ok I'll try that right now and report back

@KLVTZ my case in point is this webupd8.org/2012/06/lens-toggle-quickly-enable-disable.html ... but I moved away from unity after that.

11:24 PM
@Seth absolutely nothing pops in the terminal after dconf watch. This means that UTT is NOT changing anything ><

is there an alternate for gconf?

@hbdgaf, I kinda wanted to disable it -maybe ill do that if i get something working xD
@Seth, I have even tried changing things in system settings -like enabling workspace and noting output for dconf watch

@hbdgaf mir is still glitching last I checked

@Mateo makes me sad the ubu-desktop-arm branch got lopped off. moving along

@KLVTZ You made sure you had the forward slash on the end of the command right? dconf watch /

11:30 PM
@Seth, i'll do it again
You think i need to sudo?
@yep, nothing

Q: 300+ games for Ubuntu and more!

VladdyI'd like to share some information with AskUbuntu users those who like multimedia as I do, those are still asking and searching for games and apps available for Ubuntu. I've been in deep search for a while looking for more and more multimedia for Ubuntu and now I found it. Tons of games and apps ...

@kalina the votes sure show it xD

there were no votes when I posted it :p~

not even a question...

:P haha

11:47 PM
Is anyone here knows gpt, gparted stuff? I need help here.

@MohammadMoghimi Please don't ask to ask; if you simply ask your actual question, we will help you if we know the answer or can help you find it. This is much faster and simpler than asking if it's OK to ask. As a rule, it is always OK to ask in this channel. Please go ahead. (I'm not a bot)

state what you need help with and then maybe somebody can help

@Braiam Yes, you are a bot. A real person would never say they're not a bot. Only bots deny they're bots. I'm not a bot.

@Braiam can I answer?
can I?
please let me

@KLVTZ or sorry, no no need for sudo.

11:51 PM
@kalina You probably had enough fun with gparted by now to be able to actually answer this one :P
Also, heya folks.

fdisk
fdisk everything
fdisk everybody

@KLVTZ Wow... That's... bad.
I would add that to your question as well. (the screenshot especially)

@Seth, I'll add as much info as possible to help get this fix
Unfortunately, I'm predicting the cringing event of me having to backup, fresh install, and go through the process of putting everything back on.
Ughhhh
this means servers, packages, and much much more
hmm, good thing i have better memory than a goldfish

@KLVTZ dpkg --get-selections > packages.list FTW!

@Braiam thanks man! That will make life a little easier
in fact, i really do appreciatr it
any other tips to speed up the process?
Y PPA Manager bit me in the arse because some of the ppas it backed up included ubuntu 13.04 items that conflicted with my recent saucy update

11:58 PM
@KLVTZ I remove any ppa package before doing the jump... I upgraded from raring to saucy without a hitch... again, I got prepared for anything
