materializes with the TARDIS
hiya!

I remember on xubuntu a handful of apps defaulted to a bad gtk3 theme, so I had to copy a better looking gtk 3 theme into the other themes directory.
hi @LordofTime

how goes it

not bad

good
well i've had no internet all day so...
just got it back now

I was without on monday

7:06 PM
its going :)

welcome back.

it was out on tuesday too, so...

@LordofTime I don't know about you, but I can't live without Internet

is that so you can control your left hand with your right?

lol

7:14 PM
we're not there yet...but soon. plus.google.com/111626127367496192147/posts

@Mitch I need it for work xD But lol
well, nevermind, someone else got me the information
delegation, for the win.
@izx perhaps you're not familiar with the "Edit" button?

Hello !
Is this a good place to ask questions about App Development for the Showdown ?
Or is there a better IRC channel ? I would have liked to have some live answers.
My question will be about keyboard shortcuts (askubuntu.com/questions/153501/…).

well, first off, this isnt IRC.
second, isnt there an app development channel..?
could have sworn mhall mentioned one...

there is...
@Agmenor did you try using the constant i pointed to in the comment?

@Agmenor #ubuntu-app-devel on irc

Would anyone here recommend Gnome shell?

@Jorge someone asked me how they'd get started with ubuntu community stuffs, who should i point them to (or where)?
should i direct them to you so you can figure out where they can help?
they dont know how they want to help the "community"

7:43 PM
that's pretty vague

i know right?
hence why i'm confused as who to direct them to xD
but hey, i'm a bug guy, not a community assistant like yourself
@Flabricorn Unity > gnome-shell > gnome-fallback > [other DE or shell here]

@Jorge I am now connected on the IRC channel and will wait for answers.

@Jorge i have no clue what to ask them to narrow down where they want to focus

@aking1012 Yes I tried your constant and it works better.

7:45 PM
so...

So, gnome-fallback would be preferable to gnome-shell?

@JorgeCastro i'll direct them there, thanks. although don't be surprised if you receive and IRC ping :P
let me rephrase my last statement, @Flabricorn

My mistake, I understood those to be arrows.

Unity is better than gnome-shell which is better than gnome-fallback which is greater than any other DE or shell.

Thank you.
:)

7:46 PM
but that's personal preference
to each their own

It's good to ask around.

you can test gnome-shell if you want
and see how you like it

I think I am going to try it, an gnome fallback wasn't good you say?

Bounty offered: How do I add spellcheck to a TextView object in my Quickly app? http://askubuntu.com/questions/154989/how-do-i-add-spellcheck-to-a-textview-object-in-my-quickly-app?atw=1 #python

Wow. I found a bug.
For no good reason, my mouse cursor switched to the grabbing hand and refused to do anything.

I've seen that before
X bug
you are basically doomed unless you restart X

Nope - I was able to actually pull out of this one.
I switched to a VT and killed Firefox.
...and after running setsid unity, everything worked again.
Which was a relief because I had some unsaved changes in Gedit.
@JorgeCastro Is there a bug filed for that anywhere though?
I'll gladly click "it affects me too".

somewhere probably

@LordofTime, one can edit someone else's questions and answers? O.o It appears I knew but could not comprehend this amazing functionality! Mods quick revoke this travesty...
/dev/timewarp's away

@GeorgeEdison that happens all the time in gnome-fallback for me.
i just hit alt+tab to get a pointer back

Alt+Tab didn't work for me.
The entire display was frozen (well not exactly frozen, but unusable).

Just want to say I love Ubuntu 12.04! So glad I deleted Windows 7, that OS was a nightmare.

that is worse the the bug I ran into then

@dswhite85 Awesome.
We're always glad to hear when someone finds Ubuntu useful.

8:40 PM
found it

Q: Are there plans for additional multiarch libraries in 12.10?

Mark BidewellMultiarch came a long way in 12.04. However, the 32-bit release is still recommended for download and some 32-bit debs (Google Chrome for example) still lack dependencies. I have not been able to find any blueprints dealing with multiarch for 12.10. Are there plans for improving this feature i...

We ain't in the business of supplying "blueprints" :)
I didn't know Linux's monolithic kernel led to a "mono-user" OS:

A: How can two people play Minecraft on one laptop with external K/V/M attached?

LucioIn your case, your Laptop has an Operating System mono-user so that limits your gameplay. You can not play any game in two different ways at the same time with one PC or laptop. i.e.: You may have two monitors, keyboards, etc. but are using one computer. That means the game is processed by one P...

and it's about the next release, so it's going to be mostly speculative.
as for the multi-user thing, it may be possible, linuxtoys.org/multiubuntu/multiubuntu.html

@mateo_salta Oh it's certainly possible, I was just poking some good-hearted fun at the level of FUD in that answer ;)

Q: Are there any CheckInstall side effects or should I use every time?

user1042840I'm using Ubuntu at work and Slackware at home. Today at work I have downloaded some suspicious program from our company repository that was supposed to automate some repetitive tasks. I installed it with 'configure; make; make install'. Now I want to remove it, but unfortunately there is no appr...

yeah, looks like someone had the same thought, and the other answer is gone.

izx
and someone else had the same thought as you and wrote up a proper answer :)

yep, well I would want to test it with a laptop first myself...
then write up a really proper answer, with screens and specifics.

9:37 PM
good morning :)

10:00 PM

i see an infinite logic loop when someone touches that thing. kind of like an idiot trap

output=input
like how windows xp let you mount a drive on your desktop, which was a folder in that drive, did it once and it made it impossible to search for files

evidently they didn't think about a no-follow softlinks option

well mounting the drive in a folder was an advanced option... technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753321.aspx
so I don't think too many people had problems with it

10:48 PM
...but my application doesn't have the 'appshowdown' tag. Not good.
