@JorgeCastro @MarcoCeppi bugs.launchpad.net/charm/+bug/894825 <- Teamspeak3 server
@JorgeCastro @MarcoCeppi apache-ftpserver will move from junk to testing tonight, give me some input on what hooks would be interesting for it (useradd, remove, port change?)

I would think
anything the service provides
would be a good config option
@BrunoPereira ok so do you consider teamspeak ready enough for an initial review?

@JorgeCastro yeah, it installs, runs, you can login with the client really easy and do the config for the server inside the client, 1 hook was created for port change, init scripts are added to the system (you can stop and start the server with service teamspeak3 start/stop) licenses are there and config.yaml will give you a full tour of the credentials to login for the first time. Cant really see anything missing but some other impressions would be nice ;)

ok
I will tag it for review!

@JorgeCastro About the ftp server, it depends what you need the server for, if its just a use and discard when done with its ready to move to testing (this situation requires no config hooks, 2 users already exist: 1 with rw privs and the other only read), more hooks can be added according to needs. Have a look at it if you can and just write 2 or 3 lines of what you found out and what would be nice to have

Hiya!
Does any of you have an ATI card? I tried using mine since Ubuntu 9.04 or so, but the support have always been horrible. Yesterday I installed the official driver on the 11.10. But the performance is just TERRIBLE. The windows are moving slow, jiggly. And the whole Unity is running in some kind of 'fallback' mode (less effect, etc.)
Or should I just switch to the Intel card every time I boot Ubuntu? Oo

6:28 PM
seems like a pain in the ass to me.

Because it is a pain in the ass. Sadly. :(
I always had an nVidia card in my desktop, which would work PERFECTLY with any linux/bsd/solaris (after a really simple driver install).... but I had no choice at the laptop, I had to go with the ATI/Intel construction.

if you don't install the ATI drivers doesn't it just use the intel driver?

Hello to all.

6:49 PM
@JorgeCastro: It's not a switchable thing (okay, there IS support in the laptop for that too, but that's even worse than having an ATI only)

If I don't install the fglrx driver, it uses the open-source ATI driver AFAIK
It's just like... I have a faster, a dedicated card... why would I want to use the weaker one? ^^"
I don't even know what can I do at times like this.
Report the bug? No one cares.
Try to compile myself? Error everywhere.
Try the installer by hand? The driver will work, but it's extremely slow.

And all the cheaper / stronger laptops come with an AMD gpu. Seriously, Canonical?

which GPU is it?
why is this Canonical's fault and not AMDs?
they make the driver!

jrg
(and this is why I <3 my intel GPU - NO WORRIES ABOUT THE DRIVER!)

I feel like ec2 is just getting slower and slower

6:54 PM
bootstrap takes foooorrrrreverrrrrrrrrr

@JorgeCastro: I took on a huge challenge: the Postfix charm :)

have you tried Rackspace's cloud?
@GeorgeEdison sounds like pain
but we probably need it

jrg
rackspace is pricey, aren't they?

1.5 cents an hour they claim
don't know how it competes directly with amazon
or what the equivalent resources are
totally different from "m1.small" or whatever

@JorgeCastro It is and I have one small question...

6:57 PM
you'd probably have to try both and see which one is cheaper

What is Postfix? :P
I thought it was just an SMTP server.

@GeorgeEdison it is not sendmail!

Does it just send mail?

and receive

(I'm a little green when it comes to SMTP.)

6:57 PM
it has tons of options

@JorgeCastro Aha! That's what I was afraid of.

I would leave that one to someone who cares about email

So do you think I would look too bad if I backed off of that one?

@jrg it will get easier when openstack is more finished and every hosting company will just start offering instances and competing with AWS
@GeorgeEdison of course not!

jrg
@JorgeCastro Yeah.

6:58 PM

jrg
Right now, rackspace actually looks about right for hosting my server (should I turn out to actually need it...)

@GeorgeEdison I can just take you off of that one on the sheet.

Sure, that would be great.

jrg
but i'd need to move if bandwidth got serious.

@GeorgeEdison I would let Ante take it because a) He's paid to work on ubuntu server, make him deal with the pain

6:59 PM
And sorry about that.

and b) You can do something more fun

Yeah, I'd love to do something a little easier :)

want another LAMP one?
let me look at the list.

I saw your 'status.net' post.

@GeorgeEdison I'll tell ante that postfix is all his

7:00 PM
@JorgeCastro Oh don't worry, I think I also signed up for the Roundcube one.

that way it looks like I am moving you
instead of you deciding not to do it.
roundcube is another lamp one right?
oh, that one would need postfix
and probably an imap server too

@JorgeCastro: It's a Radeon HD3650. Canonical should speak with AMD, work together to have usable desktop distribution.

we do talk to AMD
but at the end of the day, they write the driver
at the end of the day, neither AMD or Nvidia support hyrbrid graphics as well as they should

Well, the switchable/hybrid thing is one stuff, not really important.
At least one single card should work.. :(

well, start with a post on the site
add some info
and we'll go from there

7:06 PM
failed his English exam
High five!

There are 2 questions already about the 3650 and 11.10... if I would post a new one, it would be a duplicate for sure. Any ideas how to install the driver correctly?

@JorgeCastro What about Status.net?
That looks like another PHP one.

yeah
feel free to snag it!

was 9.04 decent?
some guy has hacked 9.04 onto the Viewsonic G Tablet (my tablet)
alas no touch capabilities - need ext. mouse and kb.

7:30 PM
i liked 9.04
i liked 10.04 better
now i use 11.04
but with KDE :P
and also, i greet thee all. :)

If i have the ability with my MVC framework to serve seperate js files for each view should I?

@rlemon No.
Take advantage of the client's cache.

ok.. wouldn't both js files be cached?
say I have a inventory view - and a suppliers view - (suppliers are tied with inventory - so both will be handled with a single controller)
the suppliers.js and the inventory.js files contain different code.
should I merge them, or offer separate files for each? The only drawback (and i'm not sure how this works) is the browser would have to cache two files (but seemingly both of smaller size, so wouldn't the client still load (after both have been viewed once) the js in the same time?)

Q: Unable to connect to iFolder server

SvenI tried to install iFolder on Ubuntu 10.10 server 64 bit using this guide. Everything "worked" except: If I try to acccess the server with http://myurl/admin I get the error-message "Unable to connect to the iFolder server." Has anyone succeeded with this guide, or is there an iFolder speciali...

abandoned.

I have made a question regarding this.

Good idea.

Tried Fedora 16 and Linux Mint 12 over the last few weeks and both aren't to my taste. Fedora 16 keeps giving me errors over doing nothing, and Mint 12's appearance just looks terrible. Back to nice and reliable Ubuntu. :D

Fedora kept giving you errors?

Mhm
ABRT errors related to signal 11.
Happened when I did anything; used Nautilus, used Rhythmbox,etc.
But overall Fedora 16 is a great os, ABRT just needs more polishing so it doesn't come up in your face every few seconds. >.<

yey got myself my own cloud server

@BrunoPereira Finally got around to looking at your ftpserver charm

You really have to get better at answering questions. You should try to answer a question in a way that doesn't raise another question.

@MarcoCeppi is it working for you?

@BrunoPereira yeah, I left you some comments on the bug :)

A: What was one of your biggest money mistakes, and what did you learn from it?

JCarterRNWhen I was 13, I lent $400 of my babysitting money to my brother so he could buy a snowboard. The only condition was that I needed him to pay me back in time for me to buy Christmas presents. Well, he did not. Two or three years later, I forgave the last $80 that I knew I'd never see anyway. ...

@GeorgeEdison whoa.
@wisemonkey Nice. :D
That's just storage though.
I'd love to have enough power to run enough 200GB's worth of 8GB/each VMs. :P
(that' what i thought you were talking about)
Eek, looks like I'm set to speak next week at a local tech conference about Git and Bazaar, and why they both suck equally.

I'm so screwed. :P
I have nothing prepared. :L

@GeorgeEdison I'm ticked off by that one!

@wisemonkey Thanks for pointing me to ownCloud!
@JorgeCastro: I added ownCloud to the charm list.

welcome :)

I might do that one after status.net.

@GeorgeEdison that sounds awesome

I hope someone opens an OwnCloud instance similar to DB and U1
(So I can add yet another backup service to my list)

well owncloud is much easier to setup as your own server
just grab a HDD attach it to an old computer and voila u have it :)
