2:15 PM
just 2 more maps to create :D

2:30 PM
Nice!

hey donut
finally B1 again

Nice!
I'm really hoping that happens for me sometime this week

played with a silver 1 or 2 bud who's been gold before
i was leona and he kept telling me where to put wards since i wasn't doing it right
:)

Well, he wasn't upset, it didn't seem
but we needed the wards there to prevent ganx

2:33 PM
Yeah

mainly "ward the tri bush by dragon at all times"
i'll continue to do that
also, in the interest of doing that, he said "ss first"

From which side?

so I did that

And yeah I always SS first

we were blue team
I see a lot of supports SS later. I usually like SS first

2:34 PM
Is that bottom left? lol

blue is bottom left, yes

I might not SS first if I'm way behind but otherwise SS first. It's just gold lost if you don't
It's either a first buy or I get the HP item and additional wards on my first back if I don't have enough

2:54 PM
right

3:04 PM
@Almo @SpartanDonut know anything about ajax and running scripts on the server and getting the result back with js?

user92578
For some reason I just got threading for the game's load time working with just one line

user92578
I wonder why I didn't get any weird access errors

@Jovito what about it?

I have not used ajax

looks for don't ask to ask quote... again

3:08 PM
I'm struggling with this stuff. I need to send a request to the server to do some processing, then get the result back. Asking for a file seems easy enough. But what if I want to run a script on the server and get output from it? I'm stuck.

Dec 4 '13 at 17:30, by Josh Petrie
i.e., "don't ask to ask, just ask."
@Jovito how so? As far as the client concerned it's just calling a file

I use php to do that.

user92578
Why does adding the virtual to this virtual ~CBounding(); cause a linking error?

It neither knows nor cares that it's dynamically generated
@Tyyppi_77 depends on the linking error

@KevinvanderVelden What's your point?

3:09 PM
hmm virtual destructor?
doesn't sound right to me
each class gets a destructor, so there's no need to virtual it.
I think
:)

@Jovito that there is no difference between asking sending a request to a server for some processing and a request for a file. Excepting the URL

user92578
It's a C++ thing @Almo

Vitrual destructors are vital in C++

@Almo uuh, in C++? Yes make every destructor virtual

user92578
Yeah

3:10 PM
I thought they already were

(Where every means: Basically every one where there's inheritence involved in any way)

user92578
Yeah

@Almo nothing is virtual unless you say it's virtual =p

user92578
I'm getting memory leaks because destructors are not getting called

MOAR virtuals!

3:11 PM
C++ doesn't assume anything, except that you, the developer, know what you're doing.

In the case where C++ is mistaken on that count, you, the developer, will suffer the consequences.

user92578
I can't see why adding a "virtual" would break anything

Have you implemented the destructors for the sub-classes?

Wait, do you have a destructor with arguments?

user92578
3:13 PM
@TreDubZedd yeah, I just figured that

user92578
@KevinvanderVelden no

user92578
is that even possible?

It is possible to type it, it is not possible to use it =p

user92578
now runs fine with CBoundingCircle desctuctor implemented

Ooh I see
If you make something virtual you need it to exist, cause it will be referenced in the vtable

3:14 PM
@KevinvanderVelden so you're saying when I request a script it should give me back the result?

@Jovito yep, same as with a static file, no difference what so ever to javascript.

say, a python script, for instance...
same?

Yep, javascript can't care about what is running on the server

All the browser knows (javascript included) is Request-Response.

Well... you aren't literally requesting a script

3:15 PM
hm

Just saying that in case it isn't obvious

It's all just locations and locations are configurable anyway so you can write your script in python and say it's called "index.asp"
If you can open the URL in the browser via the URL bar you'll get the same result from an AJAX call

Conversely, if you can make an AJAX call, you can open the same in the browser (though it may look odd)

ok, but the script would have to return something that js understands right?

JS just get's whatever the script returns, whatever you program the JS to understand it will understand
Also: I dislike the term AJAX. It means Asynchronous Javascript And XML. Noone uses XML with it, why are we still calling it AJAX?

3:20 PM
hahaha
good point

user92578
XML all the things!

AJSON?

user92578
(I use XML)

doesn't exactly roll off the tongue

3:21 PM
sounds like someone needs the Heimlich

user92578
haha

@KevinvanderVelden because jquery

What I meant to ask is if you can just return, for instance, a python built-in type, a string. It seems to me that it wouldn't work. Woudn't I have to return to the client whatever the result is as xml or json?

Also XMLHttpRequest
@Jovito XML and JSON certainly are common but not required

@Jovito yes, the ultimate channel you are sending data over is text (well, unless you are insane). It needs to be some text based format

3:27 PM
XMLHttpRequest (XHR) is an API available to web browser scripting languages such as JavaScript. It is used to send HTTP or HTTPS requests to a web server and load the server response data back into the script. Development versions of all major browsers support URI schemes beyond http and https, in particular, blob URLs are supported. Data from the response can be used to alter the current document in the browser window without loading a new web page, and despite the name of the API, this data can be in the form of not only XML, but also JSON, HTML or plain text. The response data can also b...

I'm still somewhat confused about how this works but anyway, I'll go over the concepts again and hopefully it will click. Thanks.

Javascript <-> text channel <-> HTTP Server <-> Your python script

My gut says you aren't familiar with web servers and how a script would provide a result through a URL perhaps?
If so, maybe investigate building a REST service with python

@SpartanDonut Yep, I just started learning back-end, messed around with flask and django and node, but I haven't quite grasped some concepts yet.

3:45 PM
@Tyyppi_77 SQLite all the way!

user92578
no.

Yes.
It's more fun to use :P

user92578
But really OP stuff for game content

Hmm maybe in your case, but for mine I kinda felt like I needed it :P

user92578
Really?

3:48 PM
Yeah

user92578
What kind of data do you need to load?

Recipes

user92578
Okay

That way I can just do select output where input1=X and input2=y

user92578
ah, right

3:49 PM
Easily extendable as well and automatic error checking for input items

user92578
aight mom's questioning some swedish for my word exam tomorrow, brb

Are you a swede Tyyp?

user92578
no, a finn

Oh right. You guys are taught Swedish :P

user92578
yup

3:52 PM
Ihana!

user92578
lol

user92578
jättesnygg!

One of the only finnish words I know
I used to be able to have a short conversation, but I haven't used it for years :P
Pillo!

user92578
wow

user92578
3:52 PM
that doesn't mean anything

Really?

user92578
yup

yeah it's pillu (don't google it guys)

^
Yeah don't google that

user92578
yeah I'm so young and innocent that I don't know about that stuff

3:54 PM
Haha

yes you are

How did you say "Hi how are you?"

user92578
Hei mitä kuuluu?

Yes! That! I loved the last word.

user92578
so why do you know finnish

3:56 PM
you like vowels?

No just how it was pronounced
I used to see a Finn a lot

Pip
heyo

yo

Hi Pip

Pip
@William'MindWorX'Mariager exactly

4:02 PM
@Pip what about fixing the bugs remaining from the past?

That's still going forward! #HackFixesFTW

going forward by looking back

I hope he's able to improve and not just quit on the first critique

Yeah it's a nice initiative

4:10 PM
Agreed

user4704
gameprogrammingpatterns.com is far better, and written by somebody with actual practical experience.
6

Well, it could be a cash grab site, "low quality, lots of ads => money" idea, time will tell.

user4704
This kid isn't even out of school yet; he's got no business trying to educate others.

More good sites are always better! :D

@JoshPetrie This is the same guy: elliotforbes.co.uk

4:14 PM
I honestly had thought of a general programming community site where people could essentially blog (tutorials would obviously be part of this) and content could be rated or catered much like SE with some sort of privilege system
I honestly thought the kid was going for something similar but specific to game dev. Further looking shows there is no place for me to sign up other than for the newsletter

user4704
@Hjorthenify Yes, it is.

@SpartanDonut That actually sounds like a great idea!

Also, @JoshPetrie are you a moderator everywhere relating remotely to game development? =p

user4704
Nope.

user4704
Just GDNet and here.

4:19 PM
@Hjorthenify The risk / challenge is making sure good content stays highly visible and bad content gets flushed to the nether all while new content has the ability to gain visibility if it deserves it
I had never fleshed all of that out

Yeah that way you could redirect new users there for high-quality content as well

4:52 PM
@SpartanDonut like a community version of my website?
Well, the posts anyway
I've heard of people "importing" posts from other sites before. I wouldn't mind licensing mine for that

5:06 PM
anyone want EU HotS beta keys?

user4704
Nope.

user4704
:D

aha

user4704
I played it, not my thing.

Dunno if it's mine either, but I have 4 to give away so :)
Not played it yet

5:08 PM
hahha

Can you guys test and see if this runs? (Not on chrome)
https://1fc146cb5a6693aaea523644ff19c5a0379207ab.googledrive.com/host/0B_IsA0lRKMIYfkJmMGRTUUpyb29TcXFCTTZJVEJ1d3BVNDBoc3BxVmFaSkhlVkVGSFBlTjA/

works for me
Win 7, Firefox

Great, thanks!

@OMGtechy Add me if you get the urge to play: Lokkij#2185

@OMGtechy duplicate content is a bad thing for the internet. It would be more for people who want to share something they learned or a trick they are proud of, etc. but don't want to maintain a blog
Those who have a blog and want to maintain a blog should blog. The site is for those who don't
Or the idea of the site anyway :)

5:20 PM
@Lokkij I will :D
@SpartanDonut I suppose.

5:52 PM
shameless plug:

Q: Showing my own and then Unity's splashscreen

MansaI am building a project for iOS with the newest version of Unity3D, v. 5.0.1p1 and as such it is fine. The project is an old project first made in v.4. For some reason, since I upgraded Unity when opening the app on my device (iPhone 6) it first shows my own splash-screen but after a while it s...

6:16 PM
He has Unity Pro

yeah saw that

6:43 PM
I just found a Book of the Dragon containing the spells Flight, Bolt of Fire, Cause Fear, Dragon Form and Call of the Dragon. Very nice.

Anyone participating in Ludum Dare?

As some of you may remember I was at a robotics hackathon last year. Sadly I couldn't attend this year, but I just saw some pictures from it.

I'm pretty sure Mutch is.

This year they had gotten a hold of a 3D printer to print the parts of the robots they needed. :D
I so wish I could've gone.

Where was this, Will?
@Lokkij Ah okay :)

6:45 PM
In Herning. It's the second year they're having it. They're super cool.
Last year they had a total of $10,000 worth of sponsorships. :P They bought a ton of things for us to use.

What! Robots in Herning.. and I thought they barely had cars there.
:P

Don't be silly. :P Jutland is the place to be ;)

How dense are 3D-printed parts, i.e. compared to aluminum scraps?

Well some people prefer mordor :D

@TreDubZedd I don't know. I assume they're pretty fragile. But it's just for solving simple tasks. It's not like a fighting thing. :P

6:49 PM
I'd worry about torquing the thing to shreds
"Oh, you want to extend the arm? Well...now it's on the floor."
"I guess you shouldn't've screwed it to the plastic hull"
At the same time, glue-gun repairs would likely take better.

7:05 PM
> Ignite Poison used to be an amazingly painful way to eliminate poison from one's own system, but as of 0.8 it no longer affects the caster or his inventory.
Hahah... ouch.

7:32 PM
@JoshPetrie Intense critique. :p

user4704
:D

I should make a blog post about singletons

Reminds me I've been sitting on buildthatgame.com forever now.

basically "if your language has static constructors, don't singleton. otherwise, here's how."
but then I'd have to write things

@Noctrine haha nice

7:43 PM
@SpartanDonut At one point a friend and I wanted to release full source / assets for a variety of different game types - but life.

Life is the worst :P

@Lokkij What game? :P

@William'MindWorX'Mariager DCSS

Anyone here have experience with embedding python?
I'm doing PyObject_CallObject and it seems to call it three times...

7:58 PM
good day. 50 rep today.

@Hjorthenify Works but looks like crap :P

@Almo high five

:D
another zero upvote accepted answer, but I got Unsung Hero a while ago.

More like high fifty
And on that spectacular pun, I'm off.

buy!

8:04 PM
not even a pun...

"Windows 3.x was superseded by the release of Windows 95 in August 1995. Microsoft officially dropped support for all 16-bit versions of Windows on December 31, 2001."
wow

ISIS, Taliban announced Jihad against each other khaama.com/isis-taliban-announced-jihad-against-each-other-3206
LOL this is great

Yeah they have differing views about how Islam is supposed to reach its goals.
ISIS is building a modern caliphate.
and if they believe Qutb (not sure if they do or not) they think there hasn't been a valid Islamic political unit since the time of Mohammed.

@almo did you join any SE network that was ever founded?

I don't think I understand the question
it's pretty clear I joined SO and GD, so... what are you actually asking?

8:16 PM
@IcyDefiance my brother does this all the time. Drives me nuts xD
And by this I mean he calls things puns that are just simple play on words or whatever the term is for that

I once submitted 10 puns to a pun contest, hoping one would win. But no pun in ten did.

I like that one

May the pun police beat you in your sleep.

Still makes me laugh. I love it.

I first saw that one as one of those motivational / demotivational meme pics (is there a term for those memes? the ones with the black borders and white text that look like motivational posters?) and posted it on my brothers facebook wall. He did not comment or even like the post....
I think he knew I was making fun of him secretly
I guess it wasn't really secret...

8:22 PM

A: Intercept background audio stream on iOS

AlmoYou can't get access to this, actually. It's possible to play music with an app that remains in the background when the app isn't active, but you can't get access to another app's audio stream.

digging through the unanswered questions queue.
that one's 3 years old. Gave it an answer :)

Good question and unfortunate answer

Agreed. :(

8:35 PM
ok that's enough hunting through the unanswered tab.

8:52 PM
@Almo looking at your network profile... it says you've joined many other sites as well

Oh, yes I have joined many other SE sites.
When I hit interesting Qs from the Hot Network Questions thing, I'll log in (since it's easy) to upvote.
but you can tell by my rep that I haven't really contributed much except here and at SO.

yep :D

:)

My biggest single contribution to the SE network is still the question of why guys in anime often lack nipples.
And I still haven't received a good answer.

Uuuuugggh, someone should really fix the python c api macros for Py_XDECREF and Py_XINCREF
They evaluate what you pass them multiple times

8:59 PM
@Lokkij hahahah
in php:
(null)++ = 1
(null)-- = null
(or so I've been told)
woa just tested, it's true
I'm still reading Boatmurdered.
hahah some funny shit in there.

@KevinvanderVelden I think this is the issue for what you were talking about. bugs.python.org/issue17206
looks like it's been around for a while without a fix

Yeah it is
Found that out (again! I had this problem last time I worked with java)
I should just redefine those macros to do {PyObject* t =(VAL); if ( t ) Py_DECREF( t ); } while ( false )
@Almo Boatmurdered is great

9:20 PM
:D

@Almo php in a nutshell

hahah eyah

What happens when you do unsigned int NULL = 0; NULL--; in C++?
Does it go to INT_MAX?

I would think so.

Pip
@Noctrine Aww fuck I just lost the game. Thanks Noc XD

9:31 PM
I won the game a long time ago, and so can you.

Pip
Nevah!

Actually, I have a new strategy. I will make you lose every day until you accept that you have won.
>:)

@Almo Just tested it.. It went to INT_MAX

figured :)

Yeah :P

9:54 PM
making raycast go through certain objects?
how

Pip
Make it not collidable? Other than that idk

AI improvement is a no go i need to make more maps

You can make it ignore objects
Can't remember the function call though
