12:00 AM
lol am only good as supporter

damn those were fun times XD
or 3 dancers, IE, BT for even more move speed

hahah

WWZ anyone?

what happens when you just port something
the apple II read the pixels in pairs, and chose one of 4 colors based on the pairs.
neato check this @SpartanDonut @IcyDefiance
guess which one of these graphs is for Ashe, and which is for Zed.

first for zed

12:15 AM
so you think people who play zed win > 50% of their first 5 games.

lol looks like I'm wrong

:D

I would've figured the zeds with 15-50 games were all the ones I see in ranked who only play him because they're assholes

hahah
Miss Fortune has a similar graph to the top one
she's listed by Riot as the least difficult to play
Anivia is one of the few 10s
wow of anivia players with 125+ games, they win 57% of their games

whoa anivia
I rarely see anyone playing anivia

12:18 AM
yeah. fucking hard man
I tried a few times... too often I'd drop the wall and fuck over my team
and there's no cancel for it

LMAO I did too

:D

yeah no one plays her because she's horrible against assassins, and the assassin meta lasted like 2 seasons.
akali was only nerfed a few months ago, finally
people haven't realized aniv is nice again

:D
Orianna's uptake looks stiff
early exp players do horrible with her

what about Morg?

12:20 AM
morg support is always above 50%. mid takes a few games to learn her though.

wait r u guys diamond?

54% average win rate in mid though...wouldn't have expected that one
I'm silver 3
I totally deserve to be diamond though. Teammates always hold me back. >:(

xD then make a team of trustworthy players
and play Rank with only them

lol I was joking, but I've tried making a couple teams before. it's too hard to get 5 people online at the same time.

oh no why am i getting these ads hillaryclinton.com/join/72485/…

12:24 AM
actually there's a subreddit specifically for finding people to play with. a lot of people making ranked teams post there.
once I'm done with school final projects then I might go there

@IcyDefiance Icy I advice you check this out reddit.com/r/thebutton

yeah that was their april fool's thing. old news. :P

lol icy is it legit? Are there that many people actually clicking it or is just automatic

check the sidebar, some 3k people have been on that subreddit in the last...15 minutes, probably
it's real people

Lol
I dont know much about reddit, I made a account 2 days ago

12:30 AM
they had 168m unique visitors in the last month
3.5m of which were logged into an account
reddit is HUGE

I'm currently bronze 2. was silver 4 last season
woa there are some reds on the Button now
what my php code looks like:
function CalculateRankings($tableName)
{
    $query = "SELECT userid, points FROM $tableName";
    $queryResult = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());

    $scores = Array();
    while($row = mysql_fetch_array($queryResult))
    {
        $scorePair = Array();
        $scorePair["userid"] = $row["userid"];
        $scorePair["points"] = $row["points"];
        array_push($scores, $scorePair);
    }

    usort($scores, "CompareScorePairs");
    $scores[0]["rank"] = 1;
    $rank = 1;

    for($i = 1; $i < count($scores); $i++)
woa... my whole REST service is 1398 lines of PHP

I am having a problem with threads in Java. When I pass a Graphics object into the constructor of my custom made thread, and then call start() on it, it won't draw the graphics on my jframe. However, when I just call run() on my thread instead, it works. -.-
Anyone know what's wrong?

no clue, sorry
don't know much about java

you should learn it

no, I shouldn't, unless I have to

12:37 AM
it's not too far from c#

I do a little Java for Android plugin stuff in Unity, but I only learn as much as I need to to solve the problem at hand
:)
I'm not sure I agree entirely, but he makes some good points about learning only Java at school.

I've learned more than just Java in school

Hey guys, for JavaScript do u think its safe to use "const" now for HTML5 games?
Like it's been around the past 6 years and the browser that dont support "const" prolly dont support canvas well either

including javascript which i hated

I love and hate javaScript

12:42 AM
Lol, I got my lowest mark in that class

I love how I can make programs run in browser without any plugins

@BillGates'EvilTwinBrother wasn't aimed at you as a comment; just something that came up in the conversation.

Wait Bill are u talking about Highschool or College?

I did better in my RPGLE programming class
College

I liked JavaScript, once I read Javascript: The Good Parts.
made a big difference

12:43 AM
But then again, I also like Java

I don't really dislike what I've seen of Java. But I really didn't like Groovy. Fuck that super-terse code shit.

c++ is the main thing in my college

I really want to learn C

lol, that was the first programming course i took
anyone who didn't get at least an 85+ in that course is a moron
was*

lol I'll take all those courses once I get to college
xD am only in 10th grade

12:46 AM
cool
I took C# in high school

lol at my high school they have 1 class for Java

Unfortunately, we only learned C# for at least 3 grades (10-12)
If you know at least one programming language and a scripting language, you'll get aces
not that As matter so much

1:24 AM
When should you declare arguments as const in c++?
NVM figured it out.

1:52 AM
good :)
my highschool girlfriend

2:40 AM
So.

is ther in easier was to change axis on models?

if you make the mesh in blender you should be able to choose which axis points which direction when you export it
depends on the export type though
otherwise no, you need to rotate/mirror the mesh yourself

i fixed this one
this one won't budge

3:16 AM
void Update () {
transform.rotation = Quaternion.Slerp(transform.rotation, Camera.main.transform.rotation, 10);
}
literally all it is
and it rotates the parent when it should

1 hour later…
4:29 AM
I found a way to get rid of dependency files:
CXX = g++

SRCS = $(wildcard src/*.cpp)
OBJS = $(SRCS:.cpp=.o)
OCT = $(CXX -MM $(SRCS))

.PHONY: all
all: $(OBJS)
	$(CXX) $(OBJS) -o output

$(OCT)
Why isn't this used more often?

Q: Why aren't dependencies generated inside makefiles?

Aidan MuellerI recently learned how to use Makefiles, and I found out that GCC/G++ generates dependencies for you: $ g++ -MM file.cpp file.o: file.cpp file.h I then thought that the obvious thing to do would be to use this to generate dependencies directly in the file without creating a dependency file: C...

3 hours later…

2 hours later…
9:31 AM
soo
um
isn't great for jumping

1 hour later…
10:45 AM
Application.LoadLevelAsync is a thing, returns an AsyncOperation with a progress float. never knew. Time to add some sort of initial loading animation and/or bar :D

user92578
Wow that's awesome

10:59 AM
alright its been 34 hours since I started working on this I think it's time to have a break and sleep

heh :)

only have a few more things to do, i'm going to do them after school
I'm out nuggets. Have a good day!
its an absolutely pointless game but it looks cool

Pip
@Chris you know if this would work to get the position of an object to put on a terrain?
Ray ray = new Ray(pos + Vector3.up * 10.0f, Vector3.down);
RaycastHit hit = new RaycastHit();
if (Physics.Raycast(ray, out hit))
{
    firePlaceable.transform.rotation = Quaternion.FromToRotation(transform.up,
        hit.normal) * transform.rotation;
}
where pos is:
var pos = transform.position + transform.forward * placeDistance;  // A position 'someDistance' in front of the player
pos.y = Terrain.activeTerrain.SampleHeight(pos); // Get the position at the surface of the terrain to place the object

try it? as long as the ray hits something, instantiate on the hit.point

Pip
alright, cool. The rotation is going to be tricky to figure out I think
is there a way to do a raycast directly from the player to where the mouse is pointing?

11:07 AM
Camera.ScreenPointToRay, and pass in Input.mousePosition I think
for a first person view

Pip
oh mice
thanks

tbh I usually use Linecast instead of Raycast, easier to think about
(not from a camera, but like from a world point to world point)

Pip
I will have to look into that as well, thanks
Debug.DrawRay doesn't seem to be doing anything XD
Oh, need to specify a time
I see
hmm still isn't drawing

I hate rays
Make sure the gizmos buttton is enabled

Pip
Alright
Still not seeing it. To the internet search!
Oh you can only see it in the scene view
that's odd

11:23 AM
you sure you have the gizmos button pressed?

Pip
Yeah, I do. It seems intentional from what the Unity forums says.
Thanks Chris!

:D

Pip
11:55 AM
Anyone doing LD? I am working on a thing but idk if it will get submitted

Pip
12:36 PM
Amazing ghost trees:

Pip
12:47 PM
Anyone have an idea how to export that correctly?
The blender .mtl file seems to not agree with Unity so the textures get lost
@Jon ?

1:07 PM
I have apparently reached ~52k people on SO. :P
...
Jon Skeet has reached ~111 million people. :P

can someone here tell me why this works?
userid on the weekly monthly tables are foriegn keys to the ld_users table
that's the only way I can think of that it knows what userid for the weekly monthly tables

it will look at the references between the table cols on all cols and figure out how to join the data then select from the resulting join
SQL is smart like that

ok
I was hoping it was something like that

I don't think so
IIRC SQL is just dumb and goes "Oh, those are the same name, let's use that"

thats the more likely, but assuming you have named things right in your db it should eval right

1:15 PM
Yeah
> SQL specifies two different syntactical ways to express joins: "explicit join notation" and "implicit join notation". Although "implicit join notation" was deprecated in 1992, and its use is not considered a best practice, database systems still support it.
No wait, that'd be a natural join
You're doing a cross join

yeah that "implicit join" bit was the bit I wasn't sure about
the naming of it I mean

The cross join doesn't do any checking, it just takes all the rows in table 1 crossed with all the rows in table 2 (etc)

its extremely inefficient but like almo said ... should still work

So uuh don't do that it's probably not what you want =p
@Wardy natural join isn't inefficient

ok
so, how would I do this?

1:18 PM
Cross join also isn't inefficient, it's probably a very efficient method of returning the cartesian product, it's just not what you want =p

I'm all for doing things the right way
I seem to get the results I expect though
I only get the rank and points for the userid I put in

  FROM ld_user_scores as us,
       INNER JOIN ld_leaderboard_weekly as lw ON us.userid = lw.userid,
       INNER JOIN ld_leaderboard_monthly as lm ON us.userid = lm.userid

@KevinvanderVelden No I meant if you want an inner join and you write it that way its likely less efficient
because it uses a cross join instead

Well I wouldn't call that inefficient, I'd call that wrong =p
Saying something is inefficient means it's doing the right thing, just not in the fastest way possible
Cross join is not the thing you want =p

you would still have the right set of records within a cross join set as you would in a inner join I would think ... I guess its considered wrong if you don't want the other cross joined rows

1:21 PM
Yeah

ok, fixed. thanks a whole lot for that

The goal IMO is a specific set of values, you're getting a different set of values. Yes you could filter it afterwards but just do it right in the SQL =p

Psh, I'll just grab all and sort it later :D

hehe
@SpartanDonut @IcyDefiance went 7/11 yesterday. As in, won 7 of my 11 ranked games.

Pip
Nice
I have trees!

1:28 PM
yeah I made some changes to my play. :(

Pip

I say :( because I want to do at least SOMETHING that not everyone else does.
hey that looks nice!

Pip
thanks

:)

Pip
working on my LD entry

1:29 PM
cool :)

Pip
probably not going to be finished today, so Idk if I'll submit it to the Jam or the Compo

I'm working on LowDown

Pip
cool

putting in user scores and leaderboards

Pip
Nice!

1:30 PM
I love my leaderboards because they're not hackable
server calculates them from the data. clients don't submit leaderboard info
you'd have to cheat on the game itself to alter the leaderboard

Pip
:D
I love the atmosphere this is starting to have

I get tired of seeing leaderboards where the top scores are 2,147,483,648

Pip
doing a reverse zombie invasion thing, you play as zombies

heheh cool

Pip
I know what you mean with the leaderboards. That really sucks
@Mutch95 hey, can I borrow that zombie model? :D

1:43 PM
Hello all

user92578
Hey

Hellos!
What you all working on

user92578
I'm working on adding dust particles ath my player's feet when he falls

@GiantCowFilms and me thought we'd drop by you guys' to maybe interest you in an A51 proposal he's been (re-)launching
we're kind of trying to reanimate the 3D graphics proposal:
12
3D Graphics, Modeling & Animation

Proposed Q&A site for rendering artists, animators, 3D designers, modelers and sculptors. Questions relating to 3D software suites, workflows, techniques and other 3D related tasks.

Currently in definition.

@RandyJones Try a a better pun ;D

1:46 PM
HELLOW INTERNET

re-render?
give a 1UP?

user92578
Looks at all these people I've never seen before

@Tyyppi_77 what platform?

HI RANDY JOHNES I LIKE YOUR HANDSOME PROFILE!

1:47 PM
hi Blue Bug, thanks :)

user92578
@ZachSaucier Platform? I'm using C++ with SDL2 for development

We are also trying to bring attention to the proposal
@Tyyppi_77 Hard core, no sissy unity, I like it!

Wasn't sure what to call your dev platform @Tyyppi_77

...and we thought you'd be interested. And since I'm socially awkward and all, I'm not very diplomatic about it :P

user92578
1:48 PM
Yeah, everyone have a bit different definition for platform

user92578
@GiantCowFilms Nice, I like it too

I detect a minor misunderstanding, I like the attitude, I have no clue what that is, or how to write C++ (I'm a webbie mostly)
with a good helping of writing hacky pluggins for software in my workflow

user92578
haha

@ZachSaucier is the guy the same guy on Randy's profile picture?

same here. I know of C++, but haven't the foggiest how it works

1:50 PM
@BlueBug Haha, no. Only similar looking

@BlueBug no, they're two different Village People. We thought we'd have a little fun, but we're the only two so far

The yellow ping notification here makes me think that something is flagged

@RandyJones I have a foggy clue from my minor c# experience (dumb music joke)

@GiantCowFilms facepalm

1:51 PM
;D

and you ask me to choose a better pun!?

I hold everyone else upto high standards Mr.
Eats another potato chip

Lots of unfamiliar faces ... just how long was I gone?

hello @William

user92578
@William'MindWorX'Mariager I know right!

1:53 PM
Hello @Randy

we're just dropping by from graphic design

Not long... just a couple door to door sales men poped in to sell an area 51 propsal
@RandyJones I'm also representative of blender.se

I only started a game dev project last year... One of the many side projects that hasn't been completed :D

ah yeah

1:54 PM
I actually have a web game dev project which is "finished"... ;D
If any of you care to break it
(its really picky)

codepen.io/Zeaklous/pen/zbocE this was my second web project ever (mini game)

@ZachSaucier Then you'll fit in here perfectly ;)

vect *= 1.00f / (color.R / 256.00f);
This is a risky piece of code
How silly of me
I wonder how shaders behave when faced with div-by-zero.

that can be simplified to have both fs on top
or is that a unit, not a var?

1:57 PM
It's just a vector which I'm scaling. But yeah, I see how it can be simplified.
Sometimes you write code without actually thinking. :P
Also, the f is just to specify it's a float. :) If I don't have it, it'll be treated as a double.

cool

what language are you writing this in?

C# for testing

Pip
Hm

1:59 PM
I'm the process of converting it to hlsl. Working on a cellular-light normal/specular map thingy.
If I manage to get it working it'll be cool. :P

Pip
nice
@William'MindWorX'Mariager forever

But it's challenging.
