9:00 PM
in this case, the paradox is resolved by the change in acceleration required for two bodies to move back to the same frame of reference.
at least that's how I'm understanding it

the twin paradox?

yeah

yeah that's it

finally lol is done ... im off to go gaming

one undergoes measurable acceleration, and that's how you can tell which is which

Pip
9:02 PM
@Wardy have fun!

im still streaming on twitch in case anyone wants to watch
im pretty bad at lol

i'd like to look in, but I have 1.5 hours to finish an important task :D
I would even give you a few tips!
but I can't
:(

Jon
what is the link @Wardy

Pip
cannot watch youtube at the same time as using a browser for some reason or another
gah, all the internetz things taking forever to load

9:05 PM
first time playing LoL in like months
im gonna be realllly bad

Jon
yah well i never played so

@wardy tip: prioritize not dying over getting kills
that's a really good first step

haha ... its ok ... i got tidders to help me out ;)

if you're not dying, you're not making it harder for your teammates
good deal
todders is very helpful

dam this queuing malarky is balls

9:09 PM
.

soooo boring

necessary for match making
unless you're talking about drafting

"prioritize not dying"... yeah, totally. that's exactly what I do. >.>

hahah
it's what I do when I play Garen for sure
then occasionally BOOM kill-with-ult

still sat in a queue
:(

9:11 PM
oh garen is fun. playing him is a lot more about knowing the enemy's abilities than knowing your own.

you mean just waiting for it to find you opponents?
longest i've seen is 2 minutes

yeh
hmmm it gave up

Pip
wow

@IcyDefiance hence his "recommended" status :)
@Wardy woa that's unusual
well, I've never seen it happen, actually

I've seen 15 minutes...but the queue was broken and no one was getting games...

9:12 PM
:)

and it shouldn't ever just "give up", that sounds like it's broken somehow
LoL breaks a lot
but then, considering how many players are online at any given time, they probably do relatively well

that's my thought :)

wonder how a speed test comes out whilst twitch streaming

their online count has to be around 100k

still pisses me off when I get 500 ms ping for 5 minutes at a time in the middle of a game -.-

9:14 PM
i still say that's your ISP, or somewhere between your ISP and riot
since I almost never have ping issues to LoL, and when I do, so does everyone else.
LOSS PREVENTED

yeah but I can yell at riot easier than my isp, because comcast

well that is blatantly wrong

lol, last night I won a 65 minute game after you left, Almo. then right as the game ended the client crashed and it wouldn't let me log back in because the server was busy.
I was 11/12/15 or something like that, with talon, but 5 of those deaths were because of lag

hmmm ok might be getting somewhere now

@IcyDefiance marathon game man
those are won by teamwork/team comp since everyone is probably full build

9:24 PM
oh yeah, the whole team raged at each other for a while and then said screw that let's just make a death dot and kill anyone who is unlucky enough to run into us

Pip
the thing that makes dota better is that there are always more items to build :)

@Pip the thing that makes dota worse is the relatively poor hero balancing, poor ranked system (4-man premades are allowed to fight against solo queue players), and absolutely horrible controls

Pip
you can use the same controls as LoL if you want :P

if you compare LoL champion win rates to DOTA hero win rates, Lol ranged between 42-55% or so, while dota ranges between 30-65%, or something like that.

9:27 PM
@Pip that does not make it better.
I prefer that items cap out, and it becomes a battle of will and teamwork.
it makes it "different" and some will prefer that difference.
you know when you're losing, that if you can hold out until you hit full build, they will have squandered their lead and you can stage a comeback

Pip
They do, kind of... even though there is always an item or two to build, it doesn't mean that it complements your build in that game
the games get balanced after a while, just not as much

@IcyDefiance 4-man premades can fight solo queue? really?!?
:o

according to some reading I did, yes

Pip
also, you can give items to struggling teammates if you want to
@IcyDefiance link? I have never heard of this before

9:32 PM
if dota has a smaller userbase, I can imagine them doing that on occasion to reduce queue times

Pip
pretty sure they fixed that
Also, Dota has a much larger userbase, but the amount of people playing fluctuates wildly

"Due to not being on Steam, it can be trickier to track the numbers for League of Legends. However, last time they released their stats, their peak was 7.5 million concurrent users. That’s a lot of dying Teemos. Meanwhile, Dota 2’s all-time peak is 843 024."
I don't think DotA has a larger userbase, dude
this article is from earlier this year
this does NOT mean LoL is a better game; only that it is, at the moment, more popular.

dota most certainly does not have a larger userbase. shit, just compare the size of their tournaments for evidence of that. I don't even know if there are any international tournaments for dota.

;( I'm close to tears listening to the album now: Asteroid Outport by Sufista on SoundCloud

In one of their infographics, LoL posted how many teemos died per hour over the previous year. It was added "(he probably deserved it)"

Pip
9:41 PM
@IcyDefiance .....

I have searched the entire internet, and still have no idea what "watching the beef" means. :(

I ahve not searched for it
but i still can't figure it out

Pip
@IcyDefiance the prize for the last International was $5 MILLION
:P

@Pip Hmm. Maybe, but it seems unlikely. There's also a movie called Beef, but that's even less likely.

Pip
idk

9:47 PM
Context: "I can't sleep, so I'm watching the beef and looking for someone to talk to :("

heh, not at all related to "What's the beef?"

Ahahaha: "Used as a greeting between posh shoreditch/d4 head twats who are trying to be "down with the lingo" and think that using this sort of language gives them a cool gangsta lean."

@Pip my point is I've never heard of the tournament. with LoL that shit is everywhere on the internet.

@JohnMcDonald we'll be getting our list in 9 hours, yes?

@Lokkij eg: Yo yo yo! What's teh beef?!

9:50 PM
I just hope I find enough time for that

@Ali.S More likely between 6 and 8 hours from now, but yes

that wasnt too bad a game for me
i died once

Pip
@IcyDefiance interesting
@Ali.S aww frick.... i have a four day weekend but am super busy :(

^

That exactly my story

Pip
9:52 PM
hopefully can actually make some time for some game dev this weekend :)
haven't done any in a while

Been working on an engine lately

Pip
@IcyDefiance Also, there's a big competition going on called the Summit

Well it started as a replacement for power point but grew over time :P

Any way night everyone

Pip
9:56 PM
night

I think one of the primary design objectives for Gnar was "Make a champ more annoying than Teemo"
his VO makes him more annoying, in my opinion
Teemo's mainly annoying because of his shrooms
but he's relatively quiet otherwise

@JohnMcDonald let me know after this weekend if you want to revive the external jam site thing

Yeah. Could be a good idea eh?

Seems to be the consensus anyway
I feel like meta works fine but people have different feelings on that

Meta doesn't work so poorly, but we are sorta pushing the bounds

10:04 PM

For what people want out of the jam I agree
@Almo for what its worth, I think he may have meant Tibbers
Because I was most certainly driving when he said that

I am a little worried that if we move away from GDSE, there may be fewer participants. Fewer competitors, fewer voters, etc.

^

I should just prove out if I can make a mandatory "Log in with SE"
I managed to do it with Twitch and I believe the SE API supports it
I would think that should help
So we can still do all the announcements and everything through meta

Perhaps a post-jam survey would be a good first step. See if there really is a need to get something else off the ground, or what else needs to be improved (eg: publicity)

10:08 PM
Sounds good to me
Those AO prints look awesome

@SpartanDonut oh may be

@SpartanDonut yeah

Joe
10:32 PM
@SpartanDonut my life recently

lol
Good to see you, @Joe
Jamming this weekend?

Joe
you bet
i dont have 72 hours to spend

Joe
but im looking at 18

@Joe Friend!

Joe
10:34 PM
yo whats up hasherr
hows everyone doing in here

@Joe I'm likely in a similar boat

Good. We gotta play again sometime
I unfortunately got a bad schedule so I won't be able to jam this weekend :(

Joe
definatly i been short on free time adn what free time i have archeage is eating it up
hows that school work going man
getting it under control?

It's coming along, yeah.
Lately I've had a bit more free time which is good.

Joe
nice

10:36 PM
Yeah, what about you? Work still keeping you busy?

Joe
new job is sweet but its high stakes in comparison
gota pick my game up
brb pizza time!

@Joe Ah got a new job :P

@SethBattin You work in St. Paul?

i fixed my twitch stream by the way guys
sry didnt know it was blank

11:32 PM
Hmm... So do I need a static IP to run ssh on my Pi?

@Wardy first recommendation: use hotkeys to do stuff like B. :)

Anybody know anything about SSH or static IPs?

I would say you don't need a static IP
but I don't really know for sure

:)

Wardy wbu?

11:39 PM
you shouldnt need it

Ugh I'm really really skeptical about even touching my router

you can ssh to a domain name
use dns
my twitch stream is up btw
working this time
im playing LoL

So I could run my Pi through a web domain?
As in, point the domain towards the IP of the computer?

dam dodgers
you could use duckdns.org to do that

@hasherr use dynamic dns service

11:42 PM
you get a free thing like hasherr.duckdns.org and point that to you pi
the pi runs a program that reports its current IP to duckdns

@Almo Which program? Dyndns?

no dyndns not free any more
go to duckdns.org
it has instructions

Okay, cool. I'll take a look. Thanks for your help

sure
@wardy I would also start with the Recommended Items when learning a new champ
ok dinner time
back later :)
