Your reputation score has nothing to do with who sees your questions, or anything like that. Also it's good for long questions to stick a "short version" at the top so people can see whether it's something they're able or willing to spend time answering before they read the whole thing.

Another thing is that many seemingly basic questions are actually quite complicated, or the answers lie buried in textbooks. I'm actually amazed that this site functions at all, given how ad-hoc and poorly-documented many statistical techniques are. We really have some fantastic users.
