the average file size of each vlf on that instance is 132 BYTES.
10% log file growth

Death by 2.9B cuts

NO DOUBT!

This is going to take some arcane magic and wizardry to fix your performance issues. I'll need a few weeks of working in complete solace /snicker

you got it, Bill
I keep trying not to snicker but is real hard
I had a overflow error trying to fit the number of VLFs into an INT.
thats never happened to me before
thanks Bill!

Didn't realize I wasn't following you. I'll blame the twitters for an unfollow

7:07 PM
lol!
oh, @swasheck - I just realized I didn't reply to your message from a while back. Yes I got a new gig. And now it seems I've been offered another gig. When it rains it pours!

Speaking of raining. We are getting hit by snow and freezing rain!

damn @Zane I feel for you! We still have snow on the ground here although it is melting pretty fast - should be gone in a week or two I'd expect.
oh and when these guys need to make a copy of a database, they detach, copy, and reattach instead of backup/restore. that makes for much fun.

@Lamak way to go
@Lamak - thank you very much this solved my problem. — user2029074 3 mins ago

Q: SSRS 2008 Is it possible to Dynamically delete a row in a dataset and assign it's value to column

Mickey SlyI've created a trading report in SSRS based on a stored procedure of mine. Basically I have a dataset with the fields ID, Name, Type, Price, Volume and a new row SwapName. What I want to do is if Type is value "SWAP" I want to look up the corresponding row in the dataset. Take that row's name and...

@MaxVernon not a bad problem to have
@MaxVernon are you able to see your worst vlf offenders?

@swasheck I'm looking at them using DBCC LOGINFO scripted into a temp table. However, I made a mistake with the total VLF count, it is "only" 1,363,588... still a fare number!
damn I hate being wrong lol!

@MaxVernon apologies for the sp_msforeachdb ... i stole it from Tripp and added a few things of my own

You know I love the idea of Intellisense. I think they main thing they need to do is make it work consistently.

ahemSQLPromptahem

zero chance of that happening my friend.

Intellisense is vastly improved in 2012 vs 2008
But yes, SQL Prompt >> Intellisense

GETDATE() kicks ass.

Heathen. CURRENT_TIMESTAMP is where it's at

8:32 PM
@billinkc I find 2012 tends to drop out on me.

You're a drop out

oh man. Now my feeling are hurt...

Weep. Weep tears of inadequacy

@swasheck thanks Seth!

yep
and the nolocks are artifacts from glenn berry

Hard to believe there still isn't a DMV to replace DBCC LOGINFO.

@PaulWhite also hard to believe that there's not a decent DMV to replace DBCC SHOW_STATISTICS

SSMS Intellisense is better than nothing, but not by much.
2
@swasheck Right, but at least they made on a start on the general area with sys.dm_db_stats_properties.

well-begun is half-done

I believe that's their official motto these days.
cough Hekaton cough

Plan explorer pro's ability to cut through our shitty obfuscation never ceases to amaze me.

Yes, but can it un-obfuscate @Kermit's email?

@MikeFal it's the Wizard of Oz - all knowing

@PaulWhite ouch

9:46 PM
Looks like my roommate is coming with to Chicago.

I went to Greece for Easter but the weather decided it was Christmas
