yeah -- it also depends on how good your steel is -- the better quality the steel and the more springy the basic alloy is, the thinner you can get away with

@Shalvenay yeah, exactly

lets assume you didn't really have the capacity to make it flexible though
(i.e. you didn't have particularly good base steel, and you didn't have silicon-alloyed technology either as that's what gives modern spring steels their springiness AFAIK)

@Bellerophon ? None of that was speaking to you or anything you did. Least wise that I know of :) so .......
@Bellerophon So on the off chance your saying you did not understand me .... In a Science Fiction/Fantasy setting, why would one think there may not be statements made in character, in the context of a character that is well known? As an example, "I pull part of the robe back exposing the Light Sabre". Ultimately, I left that individual alone because I do not think they knew/know what Role Playing means. That is something I have dealt with for .... nearly 2 decades now.

OK - scaling the proportions of a sword down gives about 2 inches long (5cm), 0.6mm thick and 5mm wide
(very roughly)

@Bellerophon As in apparently to some Role Playing means Dwarf, Hobbit, Elf etc speaking in archaic speech.

11:10 PM
So, if you made it a little longer, wider and thicker? Say 6cm, 0.7-0.75mm and about 1cm?
I think that would be 'usefully lethal' for the chest area

@Mithrandir24601 OK. as to the abdomen? (the neck and groin seem to be relatively simple targets by comparison)
@EnigmaMaitreya yeah -- I wouldn't understand that reaction to pointing out some other character's statement, either

Wow, it’s a warm one today! Cut my walk short as it’s 89°F.

@Shalvenay Is a layer of fat of ~4-5cm too much?

@Mithrandir24601 I don't think so
@JDługosz hey there

@JDługosz We had a lovely warm day as well :)
Which, y'know, isn't that common for England :P
@Shalvenay In that case, I'd guess that the above blade would be the lower limit, up to about 3 inches as the upper limit of the smallest 'usefully lethal' blade?

11:22 PM
@Mithrandir24601 nods yeah, that sounds about right then. what all would you be able to get to with that?

@Shalvenay I just don't know - veins? Arteries? Organs?

@Mithrandir24601 yeah -- I'd think you'd be able to get most of the things you'd really want to once you get past the fat layer

@Shalvenay Fair enough - I'm off to have a shower, then bed, so if I think of anything else before bed that would be useful, I'll put it on here

@Mithrandir24601 cya

Is there any bot framework or library foe SE chatrooms?
