12:39 AM
@Shalvenay Hum, then to stay within the context of the example ... your saying because you wouldn't understand proves it is not understandable and not relevant.
I suppose, in all fairness I must ask, Do you even know what Red vs Blue is? If you do, do you understand and get the humor?

@EnigmaMaitreya Matt Easton has taught me many things through the means of online video, but the biggest and most important is the word context

@EnigmaMaitreya I'm slightly familiar with RvB's early days -- have no clue what they became though

@Mithrandir24601 :) I am not understanding the context of your reply

(assuming you are referring to the machinima series)

@Shalvenay Rooster Teeth, so yes the machinima series.

12:50 AM
That is, nearly everything depends on the context - in this case, different people understand 'what Red vs Blue' means in different ways - for some, it might be pokemon, others football or some other sport, others some issue to do countries. So, whether or not they find it funny depends on their own 'context', in addition to things like the context of the game. It's possible that the 'not understanding' is part of the context and the entire reason for how things have gone as they have
As in, perhaps you have a character who happens to have a sabre that doesn't weigh very much and so, calls it 'lightsabre', who also happens to be a complete show-off character (although by the sounds of things, probably not)

@Mithrandir24601 :) And that leads to a segue take the following literally, "Were can I" is the same question as "What is the best". How would that strike you as a new person to SE?

@Mithrandir24601 harhahr. sometimes modifier systems have unexpected effects. :P

@Mithrandir24601 Oh, Ok, your in a chat room themed as Star Wars.

@EnigmaMaitreya You see, I have no idea what the context of this conversion is, so have no clue of what you're talking about :P (this is probably my fault)
But anyway - I'm finally off to bed - night!

@Mithrandir24601 Nah, no ones fault. IF anything, Not knowing should prompt for understanding on all parties part. We get back to the original question I was asked on Meta by a Hi Rep person when I made a comment on a recent chat room being deleted, that people droping into the room without knowledge of the Role Playing might flag ... blah blah blah to which that High Rep person said, Why would you be role playing as though it broke every rule SE has.
@Mithrandir24601 And Toodles, Good Night etc.

1:00 AM
@EnigmaMaitreya rule as in "global rules of all SE chats?"

@Shalvenay Unless there is a higher word/concept of ALL / Global, yes
I know the obvious counter can be the Role Playing room

@EnigmaMaitreya eh, that room had problems, and the name of the room and the 'theme had nothing to do with it'
SE has two basic rules - "Be nice" and "Don't be a dick"
(And yes, In Jeff's day it was literally "don't be a dick"

@JourneymanGeek I understand that but I do not see what that problem had to do with asking me why there should be any role playing going on.

@EnigmaMaitreya what sort?

@JourneymanGeek sort?

1:03 AM
I mean, I'm constantly in character making dog jokes on chat

@JourneymanGeek Yes and I suspect it is rampant, that is why it struck me as a ... wtf moment asking why should anyone be role playing in that room.

Which room?

Mos wasn't a RP room tho
Most was a main room that basically went off the rails a lot

Ha ha are we doing Red vs Blue?

1:05 AM
and main rooms for sites are held to slightly higher standards

@JourneymanGeek IF I said, to some one challenging what I said, "And I move my rob back enough to show the hilt of a Light Sabre" why is that to be reason to shut a room down?

@EnigmaMaitreya it isn't, in and of itself. Mos was a mess.

Why is that different than I have said here, if you want a game of wit, then come armed (Samual Clemens(.
See this is the Red vs Blue, never addressing what I asked other than to bring the titanic into the conversation.

your rob?
@EnigmaMaitreya That wasn't though

@JourneymanGeek typo, meant robe

1:08 AM
With all due respect there never was any question of the reason, just a simple statement that points out a possible problem.

So, big picture here

AKA Robe getting fat fingerd

Mos was problematic over a length of time
We had a few problem users but no one was able to deal with it
We had people encouraging frivolous flags, and being all "its fine" when people actually brought up issues

I understand that but I have no idea why that is the answer to my question/concern

Its not one event
Its a series of events and personalities over a long period of time

1:10 AM
Truely, with all due respect when Shug said it is dead, it was dead to me period no question no point in discussing the reason.

I didn't bring it up

No (Red vs Blue) some one else asked me why would anyone Role Play there as if it broke every rule in the book.

But in context, I've often threatened people with rolled up newspapers
and that's fine.

HA HA HA HA

in fact, its a good, non escalating way past "dude, not cool" without actually using more serious moddy powers

1:13 AM
It was more about why would anyone ask why would some one want to have fun by inserting a role play moment
And why make it sound like the world is ending

Now you have me at a disadvantage
(I have no idea what this is referring to)

Not intended and I have no interest in supplying links because the entire thing is dead and not worth my time. I brought it up as an example of me saying some times I am reminded of Red vs Blue in SE.
And that simple question goes on and on and on :(
You would think I would learn
But instead I make it clear to myself I am flawed

1:34 AM
hey there btw @JourneymanGeek

@JourneymanGeek do you have any suggestions as to helping me overcome my reluctance to downvote poor quality questions?

@Shalvenay to be honest, it takes something truly terrible for me to dv.
But I have VTC rights on most sites I care about and I'm liberalish with those

@JourneymanGeek because it seems that the Stack prefers DVs to be used on Qs over As even

Think of it this way, you can undo your vote if op fixed it.

1:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek that is a point

And it improves the site overall
Which hopefully means less bad questions and less need to dv

@JourneymanGeek yeah

Can't think of any better reason than that

2:05 AM
hey there @apaul34208

Hello hello, just checking on the noise as usual, don't mind me.

@Green, jesus, that's some high level maths
even if I did understand it, it would be tedious af
**DIfferent Topic**
I was at my sister's concert and a world idea randomly came to me
It isn't your regular spherical world orbiting a sun deal
it and infinite flat plane that's infinitely deep and the sun is always directly above you so all shadows everywhere go straight down
and there's a type of rock that's lighter than the air, but heavier than the layer of gas above the air. so huge clumps of rock float about 50 feet it the air
and the suns rays are deadly so the world is a barren desert, except for underneath these chunks of floating rock, where flora and fauna survive, protected from the sun by the rock
A humanoid species has also evolved and has managed to build towns and cities on the underside of the rocks kind like the western air temple in avatar: avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Western_Air_Temple

3:53 AM
@PedroEtCetera and that's only a little bit of it. There's lots lots more.

Q: Is it proper to make questions about typical created worlds?

Emilio LiañoIt's not strange to look at already existing worlds that have characteristics in common with the world you are creating in order to get some inspiration or to avoid using stereotypes. 1:59 PM
In relation to the recent meta question, I implore everyone to VTC this question
it's not about worldbuilding

@DaaaahWhoosh I disagree questions of the form "Is X possible" are acceptable on this site.

@sphennings not all 'is X possible' questions are acceptable. That's not what the site is supposed to be about

If I asked "Is it possible to survive in space with just scuba equipment?" That would be on topic.

I'm not entirely sure about that
I don't think it would have been on-topic, maybe it is now and I've just not been paying attention

2:13 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh I'd never read the individual actions meta post before. I'm going to need to think about this some more.

this site is tricky. I used to try to keep it from changing, but I eventually gave up.

Hum it is Friday and what an interesting asteroid this is "16 Psyche" - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16_Psyche - "16 Psyche is one of the ten most massive asteroids in the asteroid belt. It is over 200 km (120 mi) in diameter and contains a little less than 1% of the mass of the entire asteroid belt." - Some have estimated its commercial value at ~$20 Quadrillion US dollars.
Another Asteroid us " 2011 UW158" - space.stackexchange.com/questions/10048/… valued at $5.4 Trillion
Just for those interested in World Building Space Industries
@DaaaahWhoosh I agree in one sense as is it is less about world building and more about "Detective" / "Crime". In addition, I would tend to avoid scenarios that are crime and capable of being executed in real life as in potentially contributing to the criminal activity. So from my perspective, this question is border line but mostly harmless.
@sphennings I think in principle your right, but I think in general your not. If I laid out a step by step plan on how to Rob a Martian Bank in the year 2050 and asked for help improving the plan, then I think people should .... be careful.

@EnigmaMaitreya do you have a link to any sort of list or other collection of these asteroids and maybe others?

2:31 PM
@dot_Sp0T There use to be a nice list of these things and their estimated value in terms of weight / mass of metals. Since the Asteroid Mining has become a "Thing" it has vanished OR obscured with white noise / useless information about all the asteroids.
@dot_Sp0T THis is not what I would want but hey ... It may help ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/?asteroids - the problem with it is you pretty much need to know the name of what you want or some part of it and I noticed there does not appear to be any composition data/mass data etc.
IF I were world building on Asteroid Mineing, I would go with "16 Psyche" IF it is the core of a planetoid then the number of plot lines is large. That it is currently not linked to any source .... then one could say it was the core of the "Missing Planet" type thing.

Greetings EM&EM, and .0

original ways to name them.

2:47 PM
hola

It's Uncle TrEs!

ayyyy

And I don't have a nickname for you, yet, @Hyfnae.

@NexTerren Oh wait the Pattern Recognition is slow this early and maybe the caffine kicked in am I EM&EM?

@NexTerren do I have a nickname?

2:56 PM
guy

eh; could be worse I guess

guy whoosh?

I prefer Whoosh guy
or, my preference: Whoosh Goose

3:30 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya You are the one and only EM&EM.
@DaaaahWhoosh Dee-Dubya

@EnigmaMaitreya where was this list hosted?

And it's Pistachio! Eeeeey!

What up @NexTerren

@dot_Sp0T Ugh, your looking back at maybe 2005 to 2010 aka I do not remember.

@EnigmaMaitreya so the list might as well still be around and you just couldn't find it. no bother here

3:33 PM
@Green New intern. And I had two Vice Presidents and one Senior Vice President fly out to apologize to me. So that was cool, I suppose.

@dot_Sp0T More likely that my irritation at the flooding of white noise in google search, within the last 24 months says it isn't worth it.

@EnigmaMaitreya there's always the WayBackMachine

@dot_Sp0T That only works if you have the URL to the page.

@NexTerren that's exceedingly rate for management anywhere to apologize for anything. Impressive.

Shrug Just my opinion, but the Google AI driving the search now with in the next 24 months will get us back to normal. It will just take time and patience
@dot_Sp0T But quite honestly, IF I owned the data I would recognize the economic value of the information and it certainly would not be public. IF I were a consumer of the information and could purchase the information, then again it certainly would not be public. Just pointing that out.

3:55 PM
@NexTerren Hopefully the apology comes with a bonus? I mean, if they did something bad enough for that kind of response you'd think they would also give you a little something extra

@AndyD273 They were from the company of the software I support, so no bonus I'm afraid!

Ah darn

@AndyD273 Also you're obviously Mr. Bubbles.

@NexTerren Obviously :D
Which is fitting, because my middle child goes by the nickname Giggle Bubbles, since she is always being giggly and bubbly
2

@NexTerren that's why I asked them if they still knew where they found the data. You can do a simple old manual search on the website's past then

4:05 PM
If I ever got into the cosplay thing I'd probably have to go as a not-so-big daddy (on account of not being 6 foot)

@AndyD273 Platform shoes, grabby mechanical hands, and make the dome helmet a bit too large and you'd be golden.

if you made the costume out of candy you could go as a Sugar Daddy
2

Happy Friday you jerkwads

@DaaaahWhoosh It wouldn't survive around Giggle Bubbles very long though...
"Who ate my drill??"

4:10 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh That is so so so creepy souding.

@James as an alternative, you could go with a long scarf and sonic screwdriver, and be Who's Your Daddy
2

@DaaaahWhoosh Ok see now that is funny
I just had an idea to do a stop motion web comic with lego figurines...anyone know if its been done before?

how does one have a stop motion comic?

Well ok not stop motion but all the panels would be pictures of lego figurines and then overlay text etc.

in that case, your question is obviously a joke

4:15 PM
This is a joke-free guarantee.

I'm pretty sure it's been done, but can't find examples under all the official LEGO comics that apparently exist

@James If it's joke free it probably won't be very popular

@AndyD273 Just the question, not the comic...wiseass.
What are the odds lego would have a problem with such an idea?

I just don't get how LEGO is so widespread now. There's a video game, about LEGOs, about a movie. And then they made a show, about a video game, about LEGOs, about a movie
I bet they made a comic, about the show, about the video game, about the LEGOs, that are about a movie

@James At three and a half thousand comics thus far. irregularwebcomic.net/1.html
Not ALL of it is legos, but like 98% of it is.

4:19 PM
@James they don't have much issue with the stop-motion videos people make. They even made a movie about the stop motion videos about LEGO. And they probably made LEGO sets about the movie about the videos about the LEGOs

My comic would be, shall we say, not kid friendly.

Robot Chicken did a World War Z parody with LEGO once
that probably wasn't kid friendly either
actually, now I'm wondering how Robot Chicken gets away with all the jokes they make about toys

@DaaaahWhoosh PRECEDENT!
ok lunch time/

@DaaaahWhoosh Probably because the PC Social Justice Warriors have not been alerted yet ....

@EnigmaMaitreya It's on adult swim. They'd probably welcome the publicity.

4:25 PM
@AndyD273 Adult Swim today is .... tamer than I remember it being ....

everything these days seems tamer than before. I can't tell if it's because I'm desensitized or because of societal change

@DaaaahWhoosh Just my opinion, but with the easy of being seen/read making everyone the same and attacking being different is having its toll.

I suppose the ability to share knowledge on the Internet must have some downsides, so that would make sense

And Example "Texas teachers give ‘most likely to become a terrorist’ award to 13-year-old" - washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/05/26/…

lol wow those teachers are stupid

4:32 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh Are they? Or is it humor being politicized into being a Social Justice Warrior cause.

@EnigmaMaitreya It might not be the best choice of words, using that term.

One could ask, of that type of statement how often is it correct?

It generally has no positive connotation.

@HDE226868 In todays world? You are right, back up the reel a ways and everyone would have laughed.

if a teacher insults a 13-year-old for fun, I call that a problem. Those kids have enough problems with each other

4:35 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh But were they trying to insult them (Robot Chicken?) (Family Guy) (Futurama?)

I can't tell, have you switched subjects? a TV show is not the same thing as a personal statement

@DaaaahWhoosh Not switching just saying TV shows .... how is that substantially different from a known fake awards ceremony? Are we simply saying that must be toned down to the sensitivities of some?

@EnigmaMaitreya in a show, the viewer is not being personally insulted by people who know them. At worst, they are being insulted by strangers who have never met them

Daa, I get what your saying, I am saying being insulted is being insulted it does not really make a difference (Insult wise) who made it. Trust? Betrayal? Then how does an Honors class not have Trust Between the Teacher and the Student?

@EnigmaMaitreya I'm going to go with both. It was pretty dumb, but people need to grow up and not let every little emotional hangnail send them to the ER

4:40 PM
I guess there's also the fact that TV shows tend not to insult their target demographic.
because that would be stupid

> "It was not a joke," Lizeth said. "I do not feel comfortable with this... I do not feel comfortable being in the same classroom with [the teacher]."
You can turn off the TV or switch the channel. School is harder.

@HDE226868 Yes, The teachers side is the opposite, but regardless, things went wrong for everyone.'

Yes.

I would ask, how wrong would it have gone, had the WP/CNN not gotten involved?

@EnigmaMaitreya if the news hadn't gotten involved, potentially nothing would have changed, and that kid would've been forced to change schools

4:44 PM
It is my opinion, these kinds of scenarios are easy as hell to manipulate to meet your agenda.

I think it's well-understood that children don't handle bullying well

@DaaaahWhoosh I am just ... probably because of age ... Leary of stories like this. UNLESS special status class's such as Honors and like class's have substantively changed, then the Teacher and the Student tend to know each other a good deal more than the other class's. This reported story does not even remote hint at that aspect ... it just states the Social Injustice.

@DaaaahWhoosh I kind of blame parenting on this one. Putting myself in her parents shoes; If one of my kids had gotten a fake award like that I would probably have been like "really guys, this is the best you can do?" and then I would have used it as a learning experience for the child. As it is, the child is learning, but not a positive lesson. "If someone is owie toward me I can make a big enough noise and destroy them."

I mean, I guess it's possible the kid is using this to defame the teacher, but I find that less likely. I guess either way, something is abnormal about the situation

@AndyD273 The teacher gave several other awards to other students that can hardly be considered compliments (e.g. "Most likely to be homeless"). I'd say the blame here is on the teacher.
Leveraging a position of power for the sake of one's own edification is generally something to push back against.

4:50 PM
Granted, if the teacher was generally a dick normally, that would be a different story, since it would be a continuation of a cycle.

@HDE226868 I am not arguing against either you or daa. But if the Teacher and the Student had a relationship that should have produced the "Humor", then the Teachers were not specifically at blame. Risk taking yes, but ....

Good afternoon WorldBuilding!

@HDE226868 The teacher was dumb, and need to get their sense of humor adjusted, but life isn't fair, people aren't nice, the world won't make a special place for you. The teacher should have done it differently. But the parents response is the parents choice, and so is their responsibility.

@HDE226868 This statement is the thing that sticks badly. That would say the Teacher(s) are questionable in terms of qualifications of teaching anything let alone Honors. That makes me suspicious of the lack of detail about the relationship.

@EnigmaMaitreya I wouldn't say they aren't qualified; they messed up. It's not a blemish on their character as a whole.

4:54 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya Anyone telling anyone else that they're going to be a terrorist is downright rude at best. If it's a teacher telling this to a child, then this is just telling the child that doing stuff like that is OK, which, if anything is worse when they have a good relationship with the child

@HDE226868 If this were true "Leveraging a position of power for the sake of one's own edification is generally something to push back against." then you could expect me to be looking very hard and asking very pointed questions.

@EnigmaMaitreya I'm saying that the action itself should be fought against. But it doesn't mean the teacher's a crappy teacher.
@AndyD273 Again, it wasn't just one kid, or one case.

@HDE226868 I get your point, but I disagree, if they teacher is manipulating a student for their own ends then that is a red flag and I would want to know a LOT more about WHY.

@HDE226868 It was one case with multiple kids. It sounds like they do this every year, but no one has cared before this. Someone was trying to be funny and did a bad job.

Ah, scratch what I said, @Emigna - the CNN article seems to imply that this is a longer-standing issue with the same teacher.
> Easton says this isn't the first thing the teacher has done that has raised eyebrows. Before this incident, the teacher, who is black, gave Easton's sister "a 'black quiz' to prove how black she was."

4:57 PM
@HDE226868 Now that provides a context that makes me question this even more.

@EnigmaMaitreya That's what I'm thinking too. A lot of this has to do with how the teacher has behaved up to this point. If they are generally a great teacher and this is a error in judgement I'd take it a lot less seriously than if it was an ongoing problem over and over. In that case the teacher should be reprimanded, maybe given some pointers on what is good humor, and what isn't.
I wonder what would happen if it came out that the teacher was autistic, and hence didn't know how that what they were doing was bad.

@AndyD273 would it really make a difference at all?

@DaaaahWhoosh That's why I say "I wonder what would happen"
I really don't know, but it makes me curious

I guess it would change from "punish this guy" to "just fire him, or put him in a different position"
either way, if the behavior is negatively impacting highly impressionable children, it should be addressed accordingly
3
if the kid had autism, and thus didn't know how to take a joke, would that make a difference?
I'd say no, because the teacher should've known better. So I guess similarly, the school should be aware of the flaws of its employees, and address those flaws before they cause irreparable harm

@DaaaahWhoosh What punishment should the school do that's worse than "Just fire him"?

5:08 PM
@AndyD273 with the media attention, it's not the school, but rather the larger community that could carry out the punishment. By, for instance, shunning him, denying him employment, et cetera
which gets into a moral grey area

@DaaaahWhoosh Very, edging from grey to evil, IMHO.

@DaaaahWhoosh Especially if the Narrative is single sided.

@AndyD273 I mean, I wouldn't want to hire this guy for a teaching position. Not until he had some proof of change

I'm not a fan of the SJ movement. Fire him, sure, if it warrants it. Turn them into a homeless leper in the community without trial? That is wrong.

@DaaaahWhoosh Exactly

5:15 PM
@AndyD273 yeah, but that's going to happen with or without the SJ movement. Really, the SJWs evolved out of trying to stop communities from murdering people because of their race or sexual orientation. They're taking it too far now, but they're fighting the same issue you are

@DaaaahWhoosh Which should be included in references from the current school. There is no excuse for people shunning him socially.

@DaaaahWhoosh And maybe they should never work as a teacher. it might just not be for them. But having the community at large shun them, deny any employment... that doesn't help anyone. Not the students, not the teacher, not the community.
That's a bit like dropping nukes when someone spills your drink.

@AndyD273 yeah, but it's really hard for humans to use appropriate force. You either deify someone or lynch them.

@DaaaahWhoosh The Frankenstein Syndrome

@DaaaahWhoosh Which is why the SW movement is evil. Get rid of the social part, just have the justice.
Here is the rule you broke, here is the punishment.
Why you don't discipline kids when you're angry.

5:20 PM
@AndyD273 sure, but the reason the SJW movement is so strong is because of the 'social' part. You want everyone to carry out justice without talking to each other, great, but it's never going to happen

@DaaaahWhoosh I want the people responsible for justice to carry out justice.

@AndyD273 but they need accountability, otherwise they won't

Says who??

@AndyD273 @DaaaahWhoosh Shrug The SWJ will go just so far as to making us be clones of each other then a generation will swing the pendulum in the opposite direction where they fight to be unique, to be different. It is just to bad we can not simply learn tolerance and respect.

@AndyD273 I mean, there's all those videos of police beating people up (or worse) for pretty much no reason

5:22 PM
The teacher did bad. The parent should go to the board and say, "Hey, this was bad." The board should correct or fire the teacher. problem solved.

@EnigmaMaitreya Humans don't learn.

@DaaaahWhoosh And there are laws that should be followed to address those situations

@DaaaahWhoosh Then they should be disciplined by the people who are hired to discipline the police.

@AndyD273 But if the MOM made this an issue then what? Putting the daughter, the teacher, the school, the community in a position to either defend this or attack it.

@AndyD273 right, but people don't follow laws. Like, I see what you're saying, but men are not gods, they will be some percentage corrupt

5:25 PM
@Bellerophon That is of course the greatest problem isn't it. As the pendulum passes through the middle we do get a brief respite and we can be tolerant and respectful. We just can't seem to learn to stop the pendulum there.

@Bellerophon Hey, Bell.

@DaaaahWhoosh If the local authorities don't follow the laws, then you go to their authorities, and so on. Rodney King got his day in court, and the cops got let off, so it went up a few levels to the grand jury, and the cops went to prison.

@NexTerren Hello.

There is a time for everyone to stand up and say "No, we won't take any more". It just shouldn't be the very first response

@AndyD273 There's a time for everyone to stand up and say youtube.com/watch?v=4xmckWVPRaI

5:29 PM
I don't like you, so I'm going to destroy your life, your family, end your line, and salt the earth.

@AndyD273 Then to make sure use the Earth as target practice for my new World Destroyer. :)

And how far do you take it? Where do you stop? Snipe random cops? Riot and loot neighborhood businesses?

@AndyD273 no one knows how far to take anything. There is no magic line where we can put everything and know that it's right.
I'll fight the crazy SJWs just as much as I'll fight the crazy 'we should kill all the Jews' people. The truth is somewhere in the middle, but no one listens to moderation
you can't say 'let's walk the middle path' and have people follow you. Except maybe if you're Buddhist, but even that ends up being pretty fanatical in its own way. Even Jesus was all like "love everyone, even if they're currently in the process of killing you and will go after your friends next"

@DaaaahWhoosh H. Seldon should have published this SocialMetric. "The fringes are fighters, the Middle are pacifist.", this can be expressed by a mathematical formula.

@DaaaahWhoosh Well, I hope we can agree that sniping cops is too far?

5:39 PM
"Hari Seldon": Foundation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hari_Seldon
@AndyD273 When anyone is being killed, then you know the crap has really hit the fan .... just sayin.

@EnigmaMaitreya Right. Start small. Work up to revolution one step at a time.
Diplomacy before nukes.

@AndyD273 well yeah. For now. I can conceivably envision a scenario where sniping cops would be the best option, but I don't think we're anywhere near there

@AndyD273 War is just a continuation of diplomacy by stronger channels.

I guess sniping cops is what the Second Amendment is for
well, apparently it was initially so that we wouldn't need a standing army. But it's too late for that now

5:46 PM
@DaaaahWhoosh I'm trying to think of a scenario (outside of the gestapo coming to drag you from your home to gas you). At that point you're basically in a full blown war.

@AndyD273 well yeah, the scenario I was envisioning was like, the Nazis have occupied the US or something like that

@AndyD273 As I understand it, the Second was for rebellion, as the British Empire was putting in effect for a number of their colonies a system of having to "check in" your weapons to the local fort (or other authority) which would have been a massive crutch for the Revolutionary War.

@NexTerren I think you mean me?

@DaaaahWhoosh I may or may not have clicked the right respond arrow. I will neither confirm or deny my misclicks.

@NexTerren "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I'm actually having trouble parsing this statement

5:50 PM
@Bellerophon And anyone else "Military Diplomacy: An Essential Tool of Foreign
Policy at the Theater Strategic Level " - http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a450837.pdf

@DaaaahWhoosh Sure, and that's war, which does, by necessity, have different rules. If a community has 99.5% good cops who genuinely want to help people and keep them safe, that's something completely different.

@DaaaahWhoosh So you can either parse it or find documents of the founding fathers and their views. Depending on how you want to tackle it.

@NexTerren eh, I think I'm tackled out for the day

Depending if you are an "original intent of the law" or a "the law adjusted to a modern context" sort of guy.

I'm a "why do we care about what people thought two centuries ago?" sort of guy

5:52 PM
@NexTerren But one thing that should not be up for debate is the Colonies sincerely feared the power that 3 cities could wield in the format of the "Federal Government" as they simply did not have the number to out vote them.
@DaaaahWhoosh Because the same issues stand now, Chicago dictates the Federal Elections for Illinois. Is one example. This is wrong.

I don't know what I think about the Second exactly (I honestly don't, and I don't feel admitting that is a sign of weakness. I'd rather have expressed no opinion than one that I don't feel confident about) but I think we should be very strict about respecting the Bill of Rights and the Constitution as explicitly as possible, since the First, for example, is really vital.
Thus I don't like laws trying to sidestep the intent of the Second, because that reinforces the precedence that it's okay sidestep amendments. There's a process of addressing the amendments and changing them, and I think we should respect them.

@NexTerren well said
Well, I gotta run. May be back later.

@NexTerren Personally, not being American, I think that there's a difference between people being allowed to have guns in general, with a license, and anyone being able to just walk into a shop and being able to buy a gun without any issues - some of my friends were in the USA recently and the joke was that it would be easier to buy a gun than rent a car...

Later, Andy!

@AndyD273 Geros Ilas

5:57 PM
@AndyD273 o/

@Mithrandir24601 They can make that joke, but it is not true unless they are buying the guns illegally.
Which is to say, people choose to include illegal sales of guns when it suits their agenda

@EnigmaMaitreya Right. The only exception I can think of is that you can buy guns at 18, but most rental places don't want to rent to people under... 21, I think it is? But that's for insurance reasons, not law.
Otherwise to buy a handgun in say Oklahoma (generally the most unregulated on firearms) from a business you do a background check and have to provide PII.

@NexTerren Meh that has been so long ago ... I don't know I should ask my Son, we were just talking about one of his daughters having one more driving lesson until she gets her license.

@EnigmaMaitreya It was far harder than it should have been to rent a car - it turns out that they don't like renting (to foreigners, at least) under the age of 25

@Mithrandir24601 Nope, you're right. It's 25 for Americans as well, not 21. Again, for insurance reasons.

6:01 PM
@Mithrandir24601 Hum, yeah that aspect is a problem and a problem for non foreigners. They seriously want to make sure they get their money ....

Which is ODD because it seems like SOME rental place would see the untapped market and just charge big prices to rent for under 25.

@NexTerren Some where in the collective junk pile of memories is a company/franchise "Rent a Wreck"
@NexTerren Also, isn't the minimum age for enlisting in the military 18?

@EnigmaMaitreya As early as 16 IF your parents sign off on it. Otherwise yep, 18.

@NexTerren And yet drinking alcohol is 21? Just one of those totally weird things about our culture.

@EnigmaMaitreya Unless you're deployed! Then it's 18.

6:17 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya It's also wrong if Chicago doesn't dictate the Federal Elections for Illinois. If there's more people there, why are their votes less valuable?

@DaaaahWhoosh Because that population does not know 1 damn thing about how the rest of Illinois works and lives. Their values certainly do NOT reflect the rest of the states values. Example, Chicago has more murders than any other city in the US. .... Nope, not going to do it, I am simply going to stop there. But (rolls eyes) Corruption is the way the city and county runs. It infects the State Government proportionally.

so, then, count it as a different state I guess. We need more states if people don't like the numbers
maybe cities should be counted as their own entities. For the most part, they do tend to vote differently than the rural areas

@DaaaahWhoosh HELL NO kick their sorry butts out of the Union. Seriously, Chicago brings nothing of value to anyone but themselves
@DaaaahWhoosh Bingo and their vote should NOT overwhelm the rest period. New York City accounted for more than 60% of the delta between Trump and Clinton and that was 1 single county vs nation wide.

@EnigmaMaitreya you can't just kick people out of the country if you don't like them. Otherwise maybe the people of Chicago would vote you out, and like you said they run things

I just ate way too much curry...yawn.

6:26 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya you can't just not count votes you don't agree with. From my perspective, the rural counties swung the vote for Trump, even though they have less people than the cities

@DaaaahWhoosh Watch me, you do not understand. ..... and @james is right. We can agree on large population centers being a separate entity? :)

What am I right about?

@James , Steward of WB, Crusher of Dreams, Lord of The Factory Floor, First of your name: That's impossible. You can't eat too much curry. You are simply wrong :P

@James :)

lol
well I ate it too quickly then.
They had goat today.
it was freaking delicious.

6:27 PM
@EnigmaMaitreya I can agree major cities should be counted differently than the rural areas surrounding them. Their lives are different, they should be run differently

@DaaaahWhoosh Then lets leave it at that for .... peace sake :)

I mean, that is what I was going for, so, sure

@James It sounds delicious. I just want some curry now... Maybe tomorrow

@EnigmaMaitreya Wait. Polite compromise?! This is 2017, now go argue until you hate each other like good Americans should.

although I'm currently making some paella, which is also delicious :)

@NexTerren eh, I think I'm tackled out for the day
now, in the spirit of fraternity, everyone go upvote my Back to the Future answer

@James No thanks you trouble maker. :)
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
“ - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1790809/?ref_=inth_ov_tt I have this one in my Netflix BRay queue … I think.

“Baywatch (2017)
“ - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1469304/?ref_=inth_ov_tt Not going to watch it at the movie and I do not think it is in my Netflix queue either.

“Long Strange Trip (2017)
“ - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4143508/?ref_=inth_ov_tt - Great Band. Will put it in my Netflix Queue and I am sure my Wife and I will enjoy it.

@EnigmaMaitreya Chicago makes a great setting for Due South.

@Bellerophon IF it were not for the human tragedy that Chicago is spiraling to, I could go along with you but ..... things are just wrong there .... just horribly wrong. Not in the Have sections oh hell no, but the rest ....

6:53 PM
Hum, this could be interesting when all is said and done: "Supernova Fail: Giant Dying Star Collapses Straight into Black Hole" - space.com/… - "It appears the path to becoming a black hole is more complex than astronomers thought. Rather than exploding into a supernova before collapsing into a black hole, as expected, one giant star skipped the pyrotechnics and went straight to the collapse. "

7:05 PM
And I return.

Welcome back.

hey there @Bellerophon

@NexTerren Are you sure?
How can you know you're here?
What if it is just false sensory information being sent to your brain?

7:26 PM
Hello good people of the Worldbuilding
I need your dearest help my friends

@dot_Sp0T What with?

I need to find out how to wrap these around my calfs in a convincing and authentic manner

@dot_Sp0T Some sort of knot? I know a couple of people that wear things that at least look similar, but I don't know of the top of my head - I can (maybe) get back to you on that in a couple of days...

You will also likely not understand it
Doesn't matter cause I do

Video of the corporal of the guards tying on the calf thingy?

7:40 PM
hey there @Mithrandir24601

@Shalvenay Rytsas

how're things going?

@dot_Sp0T I don't get quite a lot of it, but I'm surprised that I do actually get a little bit of it :)
@Shalvenay Pretty good - it's still nice and warm, it was really warm and sunny today (makes a nice change) :)

@Mithrandir24601 cool. things are OK here.

@Shalvenay Could be worse...

1 hour later…
8:49 PM
hrm...where would be a good place to implant some sort of non-reactive object in a human's body that'd a) not require extreme precision to insert it and b) make it as difficult as possible to remove?

@Shalvenay There was a question lately about that

@Secespitus yeah -- the id chip one. that was assuming that one could basically have free surgical reign to implant it wherever tho

@Shalvenay So you want to implant a chip with the same requirements, but without a surgeon?

@Secespitus a small-ish object, yes, and without a surgeon (think more "shady surprise for a specific target")

@Shalvenay I just remembered that scene from the X-Men film where Mystique uses a syringe to pump lead into the butt of a security guard. I'd go with the butt.

8:54 PM
@Secespitus hrm...how would that make it hard to remove then?

Or behind the shoulder blades?

@Secespitus hrm...again, not sure how that'd make it hard to remove

@Shalvenay It's difficult to make it easy to implant and hard to remove. I think someone in that other question mentioned that you could "swallow" the thing into the lungs. How much "access" do you have to your victim?

@Secespitus worst-case for the attackers is delivery-by-one-poke-and-disappear

@Shalvenay Then it would be better if the victim didn't even realize they had a chip. Why don't you stage a little accident on a bike and try to implant it into the neck or upper arm?

9:00 PM
@Secespitus hrm, how would that work? (kinda curious even though the kind of accident would have to change depending on the world in question)

@Shalvenay Run the other person over and when both are lying on the ground you use a hidden little syringe to poke the victim in the upper arm and implant the chip while "trying to get up" and saying "sorry" all the time and trying to be helpful by grabbing the arm, but still being clumsy
Dinners ready. I'll be back in a bit

9:20 PM
Back. But without any ideas.

@Secespitus What if we combined a jar of peanut butter with a shoe.
That way when you were getting ready in the morning and you were hungry... BAM, problem taken care of.
Now there's an idea.

@NexTerren That would definitely solve the problem of being hungry and in a hurry. But I wonder if it's comfortable to wear.

@Secespitus Well that's why you use silky peanut butter and not crunchy peanut butter.

@NexTerren You have a solution for everything :D

@Secespitus I know. It's one of my features.

10:17 PM
Don't know if this is still being asked, on the Heart side of the sternum, under the bottom rib there are many places to place a chip, with locking legs (think crab like legs wrap around any number of things there). Should be able to be done by a non surgeon and should be made difficult to remove because of the locking legs.

@EnigmaMaitreya hrm...yeah, the lower rear of the sternum would be hard to get at for a surgeon...
